I was a bit disappointed since I caught an Uber just for the croissant! They had plain and almond croissants and a few other pastries but i figured since i was there and I was starving I should get something to eat. I ended up sitting down and ordering the ricotta and honey comb which was amazing. The server told me they make the ricotta in house everyday. It's served with local honeycomb and toasted crostini and lemon zest. I also ordered an almond milk latte which was served in a cute floral printed tea cup. First time visit for brunch. Last time visit for brunch. Ordered croque madame without the egg which then becomes a croque monsieur which the waitress did not know. Also miss pronounced the croque madame. Also Ordered eggs Benedict and asked for the muffin to be really really toasty. Sandwich came out at room temperature and the cheese slices were not even melted. Also was just two square piece of bread, nothing like the pictures that are posted on Yelp. On the eggs Benedict, the muffins were not even warm much less toasted and the poached eggs did not have runny yolks. All in all, unfortunately a disappointing meal. We were in the city for our anniversary/my birthday. Jeff picked this Bistro for dinner before the concert. Perfect environment and a beautiful setting. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was over the top. The lemon drop martini was perfect - not too sweet. Jeff wanted a blue cheese olive martini and they hand stuffed the olives for him. We began with the Shishito Peppers - very good - a little bit too much lemon for me however my husband loved them! I ordered the Sole Meuniere Amandine and asked for the wine cream sauce on the side that is served with the Salmon dish. It was incredible! I loved every bite. The absolute closest restaurant in Dallas to being in France. I love how consistent they are with all their food, especially on Sundays! I come here all the time and usually love it but we went here last weekend for brunch and had an awful experience. We had a female server who I believe is new because in the past year of going I have not seen her. She didn't listen to anything we had said and brought wrong items of food over and was not attentive at all. She kept asking if we wanted to the check which made us feel rushed. I don't think she knew we were frequent flyers. Unfortunately, I left very unsatisfied so not sure if I'll ever go back which is a shame because I would go at least twice a month for brunch. read more

The vibes here are great! You really begin to feel as if your in Paris. The upbeat French music playing on the background, and the quaintness of the cafe really make the part! They even have fresh squeezed orange juice, which is a cherry on top! I ordered croquet (which I've had before) and my husband ordered the croissant sandwich with added bacon. The food is very fresh, they make everything in house! And their potatoes are fresh too, not previously frozen like most places these days. The menu is simple and easy to choose from, not overwhelming at all! Orange juice tastes great! Just what I need to stay away from the cold that's going around. My experience here reinforced why I reincarnated into a human body on earth with the means to dine out at fine establishments once in awhile to enjoy the creative labors of others- thank you management, chef and staff for being! Location: I thank GPS, but it didn't get us there. It's confusing for me in that area and all the construction helps, too. We had to stop at a hotel for directions and learned it was on the opposite side of the building and looped around. You park in complimentary valet in the parking garage next to the restaurant. Classical music is piped in to the garage which I thought was from the restaurant but wasn't. I really liked that touch. The garage walls had Warren Buffet quotes written on it which I've not seen before. FYI, You have to walk down and up from the Valet to Mercat Bistro, so be aware of cars entering/exiting if you're distracted. The entrance to the Bistro I loved! A breezeway with seating areas on both sides, lots of plants, misty blues and grays in the decor, it looked very Parisian! Service/Management: Very professional and attentive. I liked that our female server told us the history of the place, that it was the building's small cafeteria, the new chef, etc. Atmosphere: (See photos others posted). It is small but I figured no smaller than a New York or Parisian bistro and the decor is great, including tiles in bathroom floor and ceiling, down to details like paper towels that are printed to look like linen towels...nice touch! Seating is close together but the look is perfect, of a French Bistro as mentioned. Music: Techno at about the right volume until a group gaggle of gals sat down and then the restaurant got louder as it filled up. Now, I agree with another Yelper who mentioned the music. Just about every "cool" restaurant in the Oak Lawn area has techno music, so I wonder, does the owner/management and staff like that music? It just doesn't go with the atmosphere you go there for. It doesn't have to be cliche accordion French music. Why not do eclectic Parisian music that matches the atmosphere? Sound track for Amalie? French Hip-Hop? That was a detail that would have rounded out the experience and transported me to my idealistic fantasy of Paris...but to each his/her own. Beverages: This was brunch but I'm not doing alcohol right now. If I was, I'd try their signature drink with frozen fruit ball that you pour a combo of sparkling wine/sangria over). The Lavender Cappuccino was an elevation I didn't expect. (Thank you Yelpers who mentioned Lavender- our server wasn't sure if it was seasonal or not and asked and we received!). The frothed milk was a stiff velvety creme, the lavender must be a sugar as it was sweetened perfectly and needed nothing for my sweet tooth. The flavor was subtle but there, and D-I-V-I-N-E. I had 2 in the porcelain cup/saucer and then asked for 2 in a to-go cup it was so good. Hubby said best coffee he's ever had! We've traveled some, too, but apparently this coffee and recipe is special. Food: We went simple. Hubby and I were heading to the Design District to get inspired and couldn't take leftovers so shared. They had 2 Benedict specials (Salmon or crab and one with a bacon/mushroom/spinach sauce) we didn't choose as I wasn't in the mood. We shared an Almond Croissant to pair with our cappuccinos because that would be proof of their pastries. Delish...crispy, buttery, crunchy, chewy. Then we shared the Quiche Lorraine, and this has the cured Parisian ham where you can see the actual leg up on the bar wrapped in cellophane they shave off as needed and it was delish too. (Yes, I said a prayer of thanks to Gaia for all ingredients, and the pig giving it's life so that I may have protein and enjoy it as well, and the chickens too for their eggs, and everyone who had a hand in creating and bringing this food to me). The Quiche had the most subtle flavors and sublime custard texture and homemade crust. It's very high and filling but not too rich, with a fresh green vinagrette side salad. Then we shared the Strawberry Mascarpone Crepe which I thought needed sauce but that's what the strawberries, blueberries and raspberries are for! Solved. Again, subtle, delicious and filling. I left a bite and a half on the plate, as I just couldn't do any more. Bonus: After paying your bill, do a bit of discovery and turn to the office building and scope out the lobby that has the Ten Thousand Origami Cranes installation and the historical (300 year) Shogun Warriors in armor atop stuffed horses (a bit creepy) and learn from the Security Guard there is a free "The Samurai Collection" museum across the way. From top to bottom, Mercat Bistro is wonderful. The service - perfection. The wine selection is vast with bottles ranging from the high $30's to $200+, and they have wine by the glass, as well. Inside, it is extremely intimate, with very few tables, warm glowy lights, and a lovely, massive chandelier in the center made of a tree-root system for a splash of rustic style. The patio is gorgeous and shares a lawn with St. Ann's, which includes an over-sized chess game. I took the kids with me to dinner last night, and we went out to the lawn after ordering (we had a large party and mine were the only kids, so we gave the table some space) - I kicked off my shoes in the grass and let my daughter play chess as the sun went down. So lovely. The Ribeye was incredible. I ordered it medium rare - it came out perfectly - piping hot, buttery, salted to perfection and every bite just melted. I was splitting the dish with my daughter, so my server took the time to cut it for me, split it onto her plate and then cut that up for her. We had incredible service and a wonderful dinner. Want to escape the city and feel like you are in the French country side? Mercat Bistro has such a calm, peaceful, romantic setting and feels like you aren't in the middle of the city, such a great change of pace. Layer on top of the great atmosphere some phenomenal food, you may not leave after 5 course of food. Clearly my experience at Mercat Bistro was out of this world. I walked in with absolutely no expectations and not really knowing anything about the restaurant. It is really small but delicately laid out. Each little table feels like a private area. Every detail has been attended to down to the fine china served with every course with little flowers on it. We were first served with some freshly made ricotta cheese, organic honey and crackers. The ricotta and honey combination was so yummy and it was just the food before the appetizer. The almonds that were pan fries were also amazing and seasoned to perfection. If you are looking for a light bite to eat and some wine go with the cheese and meat board. There is plenty of food and the cheeses are rare as well as yummy. Must try! If you are looking for a full meal I highly recommend the Cobia. I don't like fish at all but this fish was nothing like I had ever eaten, it melted in my mouth and the sauce that they cooked it in was amazing. There was also king crab on the side of the fish and it was really good too. I don't like the actual crab leg on my plate and I like that it wasn't presented that way. The only thing I would forewarn is that the main source of food is meat, not too many vegetarian options for a full meal. I also can't say enough about the cheesecake. I'm not a cheesecake fan because it seems too thick and heavy but this cheesecake was fluffy and flavored to perfection. The combination of the crust, filling, sauce and fruit was like a party in my mouth. I would actually go for just a slice of cheesecake, a drink and to sit on the patio. Went to Mercat Bistro for brunch with my friends for lunch on Sunday and the outside patio is extremely cute. I definitely recommend requesting to sit outside if the weather is nice! The service was not what I expected considering and we all waited almost 30 minutes before someone could even take our drink order. I was really disappointed on how long it took for the waiter to even greet us. I also felt pretty rushed when the waiter finally took our drink/food orders. I ordered the Croque Madame known as the grilled ham & cheese sandwich per recommendation by the waiter and other yelp reviews. Honestly, I was not very fond of the dish overall. It was very overwhelming and I was provided with only a butter knife to cut through the massive sandwich. My sunny side up egg was overcooked. The flavors of the cheese, ham, and egg yolk was very overwhelming which made me so sick after eating just half of the sandiwch. Have had several lovely meals here over the years but I had to get on here and say - we had a horrible experience yesterday on one of the coldest, windiest days in Dallas. Do NOT let them seat you in the added little building when it's below 40 degrees. It is all metal and windows with very, very poor insulation as the doors have basically no weather stripping. It is like eating outside with some wind protection. Yesterday was 35 degrees and I think the room we ate in was about 45 degrees. We wore our heavy wool coats, cashmere turtlenecks and boots and were still chilled to the bone. I couldn't feel my toes by the end of the meal. We ate quickly and paid in cash to get out as quickly as possible. I feel so bad for the staff as it was very annoying to go from the main building door - carrying out plates of hot food that will soon hit the outdoor air and get cold in less than 3 mins - to the outdoor shed room through this ridiculous accordion doors they never shut correctly. The wind would blow and the doors flung open over and over again. There wasn't a single 5 minute period that passed where someone wasn't coming in or out of the door, barely shutting it behind them. We had to move tables because when it started flurrying outside the snow was literally blowing inside the crack between the door and window and onto my husbands head. SNOW - indoors. Needless to say it was the coldest meal we've ever had, the most uncomfortable and probably the most aggravating considering we had already waited so long and were starving that we had to see it through. We both wanted to leave but had already valeted the car and waited 35 mins. I think the solution here is to close off this room when it dips into the 40s and 30s. They did have those heater things on the ceiling but I never felt a hint of warmth the entire meal. They simply could not keep up with the cold seeping into every crack and the constant opening of the doors. The main restaurant room looked cozy and happy. And for what it's worth, my food was decent. It was just... not hot. This needs to be fixed otherwise they will have a lot of unhappy people dining in the winter. For a taste of France in Dallas, this is where to go. This was the perfect oasis for me to stop by, grab coffee, a bite, and kill some time while waiting to meet up with friends. I was seated at the bar and Steven took exceptional care of me throughout my meal as did all of the staff I encountered here. He also made a delicious Australian Flat White. I normally get espresso, but I was in the mood to deviate slightly from a straight espresso. The Australian flat white was perfect and he added just a touch of hazelnut which tied it all together nicely. Unlike with a lot of cappuccinos where the milk can over power the coffee. This one had the perfect balance of smoothness and delicious coffee flavor. I savored it as long as I could and I ended up getting another one for the road it was so good. For food, I went with their croque madame which is a French bistro brunch go to for me. Their's may not have been the best ever, but it was made with care, quality ingredients, was very traditional, and is definitely worth getting. I got it with the bibb salad instead of their potatoes and I'm glad I did. I normally would have done the potatoes, but it would have been way too heavy. That was a big croque madame. The salad was perfect. The decor/atmosphere here fits perfectly with their bistro theme. It even reminded me a bit of my visits to Paris. The thing I may have enjoyed most of all though was I could tell the staff where happy to be there and happy to be working with each other. That was a delight. Normally quite good; however, last night's Valentine's features and ambience were on the low side. $75 per person was way too high for the fare we received. The "Amuse" was barely a bite of ricotta and honey. I did enjoy the Cauliflower valoute; however, the beet and blood orange salad was extremely bitter. My coq au vin was fairly tasty but my wife's salmon was basically a pile of asparagus. I was so looking forward to the lava cake. "Would it be big?", I thought. Nope. It was about the size of a silver dollar. Add three drinks to the mix, and my wife and I were given a bill of $200! I could have fed my whole family on that. The ambience was loud this time. Came here for lunch! There was complimentary parking right next to the restaurant which was really nice! It was pretty crowded at noon but we got seated within a couple of minutes. I ordered the Mercat Burger. It was a basic burger with cheese, lettuce, beef, onions, and mayonnaise. Although it was simple, it was really flavorful! It came with fries, which were really crispy. This quaint little bistro is so cute and so French! Such a perfect place for me and my gal pal to gossip for a good few hours, sitting in the patio & sipping away at our tea and coffee. Unfortunately the kitchen was closed upon our arrival (sadface) but the staff offered to reheat some very large quiches for us. I'm so glad we stayed! My Bacon Lorraine was savory and filling, with tender crusts around the edges. My friend's Spinach one looked even better. We were both stuffed. Then we ordered dessert... the Profiteroles per their 'master pastry chef' are what bumps this place up another notch. What can I say, Mercat Bistro is definitely a must-try that I only wish I had given a try sooner. First off, it's tucked away in a quiet location that isn't exactly favored for uptowners. But, what's not to love about it?! The patio is spacious and shaded, making it perfect for a quaint brunch date. The interior is very French inspired, with an antique inspiration. However, I think it's the china that distinguishes this place from all of the others. There's so much charm here. Our waiter was about the only thing that was unfortunate about Mercat. He was lifeless and couldn't care less about providing good customer service to us. We started with delicious nonfat cappuccinos. I love a place that has skim milk to offer its diners. I've noticed that a lot of places only have regular and 1% milk. For a little pretreat, we decided to share the Blueberry Muffin. The muffin was so moist and the berries were so sweet. We had such a fun time eating that muffin that we then decided to try the Banana Walnut Bread. This was also very good. It was a little oily, but that didn't stop us because it was still quite enjoyable. For my entrée, I ordered the French Omelette. The belletoile was a bit too thick for my taste preference, but my bf seemed to like it. The omelette was honestly nothing to write home about, but when I took the omelette and placed it inside of the croissant I ordered as a side, it was a great little breakfast croissant sandwich. My bf ordered the Croque Madame and it was really amazing. The plain croissant we were served was a bit stale, and the chocolate croissant was good but average- reminded me of a croissant you could get from any patisserie lining the street in Paris. The almond croissant, however, was phenomenal and as good as the best almond croissants we'd had in Paris or Montreal. The restaurant is adorable and has a great ambiance. We ordered the torched pasta.. If you love cheese, get this! The portion isn't meant for one to take on their own. If you only have two people, I would recommend getting this and another dish to split and share. Un, Deux, Trois was a perfect start to our meal along with the flavourful steamed mussels!
