My friend and I came here for restaurant week. Firstly, the patio cannot be beat on a nice evening in Dallas. We were fortunate enough to stop in during a rare August "cold front". I started with a tomato and mozzarella salad with a pesto drizzle which was good but uninspired. My steak was delicious though and perfectly cooked. We finished with a hazelnut chocolate mousse which was a pleasant surprise considering that I am not typically a chocolate fan. I would definitely recommend Mercat for a romantic date, and I hope to return for brunch or lunch. read more

We missed République in LA. One of the best restaurant in Jonathan Gold's list. My husband and I moved to Dallas from So Cal. And I want to go to a French restaurant for brunch. We used to go to République every other week. He found this place on yelp with all these good reviews and we decided to give it a try. Big mistake!! This place is horrible. The menu is limited. The food sucks !!!! I give one star for the ambience. Service just ok. I asked the server to warm up my croissant and I got a brunt croissant. So I wanted to rave about this place but sadly we only went twice and have never been back. When comparing the food to others like Toulouse or Rise I just didn't care for it as much. The atmosphere is cozy but the seating is uncomfortable. We we're sat at an awful table the first time and the second it was wobbly beyond normal. I would have asked to move but they were packed. The food. We have had the Ricotta and Honey. This is a 5 out of 5 for me. It is very good. Shishito Peppers. This is a 3 out of 5. I had this dish at Sangria's (may you rest in peace) it was much better there and prepared in a very similar fashion. Onion Soup Gratinee. This was again a 3 out if 5 I think Rise is better. Beet and Goat Cheese Salad. The vinaigrette is not balanced. I love all of these ingredients but it just seems something is missing to tie it together. Steak and Fries. This is a close tie with Toulouse. Service. I would give them a 4 out of 5. For me it is their food. The brunch was enjoyable. They made a Croque Madame that we loved! A classic dish that everyone does but no one does right. Get it here! The drinks are adorable. They have a drink with cotton candy that actually tastes good as a drink! As well as a cocktail which a fruit ice cube. We gave it 4 stars only because they ended up seating us about 45 minutes after our reservation time, which is completely unacceptable. Once you enter into this restaurant you are transported to NYC - I know it is french but it reminds me of all of the small bistro's in the city that I came to love. Thank goodness for honest reviews and the freedom to share an opinion. I am going to have to disagree the lot of people here regarding the excellence in food at Mercat. While the ambiance is nice, cute, and interesting (encountering a wooden shelf of snacks, i.e. Haribo gummy beers, chips, and breakfast bars right next to the unisex water room during an intimate candle lit dinner with wine), I can't say that I was overly impressed by the food. Dare I make this statement? Yes... my boyfriend and I showed up at the restaurant, starving, and ordered enough food to satiate our hungry eyes (sometimes bigger than our stomachs). The shrimp and lump crab meat cocktail was disappointing. While the servings of crab meat were plenty, and the four shrimp were sizable, the flavor of the seafood was overwhelmed with the capers (? they looked like capers). Every bite elicited a salty pickled burst of grossness that ultimately ruined the dish. Please, remove the capers from the recipe. We had a mushroom and egg dish - I don't remember the name of it, but it a nice flavorful mushroom soupy dish with an sunny side up egg. Sorry for my insensitivity, but I haven't the faintest clue what it was called nor did we quite know how to eat it. It seemed as though it should have been accompanied by some some kind of bread, but it was not. All that aside, it did taste good. The warm goat cheese salad smelled wonderful and after a bit of combining all the ingredients together, tasted splendid. The tart flavor of the dressing is balanced by the sweetness of the fig and saltiness from the goat cheese. We ordered a filet (butcher's cut), medium, with french fries. The steak showed up medium well and little much too dry and salty. The french fries, were good, granted they were french fries and nothing special. We also had scallops and risotto. The scallops and the mushroom sauce were on point, but the risotto needed to be cooked just a little longer; the grains didn't seem to have much time to soak in the sauce. For dessert, we requested a caramel cheesecake (hard and dry and did not appear fresh) and the creme brulee with chantilly. Creme brulee is my most favorite dessert for its wonderful melt in your mouth texture and subtle flavors. The chantilly was strong and small bits of it were nice, but there was a little much in the serving bowl. Unfortunately, we weren't as impressed with the food here as others have been. Perhaps our taste buds are overly sensitive or not used to the french palate. Pros from the night included great service from our server, cheerful energy from the hostess, and a romantic table tucked in the corner. read more

Others in the party had the steak tartare, sea bass and quiche. Everyone was a happy camper when we left. I was not a fan of the salad dressing, but ok. One item that I was not a fan of. Drinks were very good and not short on liquor. The service was a little disappointing and why the 4 stars instead of 5. The server was not very attentive even though he was friendly and polite. This place does a pretty good job of making their food sound really fancy on the menu by using a bunch of french words you wont understand or will have difficulty pronouncing. It's not until the wait staff brings your food that you realize you're overpaying for a pretty basic sandwich...because it's french, I guess. This restaurant is located next to a beautiful little garden. Great for dates and small group hangouts. The food is amazing for this price. Came here and sat outside in the warm weather and loved everything: the food and the atmosphere. The burrata bruschetta was simple but flavorful. The short rib melts in your mouth and is extremely moist. The butcher's cut steak was so tender and cooked to perfection, medium rare like any good steak should be. The peppercorn sauce brought me right back to France. The scallops come in three with light cream sauce and mushrooms. I didnt trt rhe cold salmon bur heard it was good as well. For dessert we opted for the passion fruit creme brulee. The tart passion fruit sauce at the bottom balances out the sweetness of the creme brulee. The trio dessert sampler was so good. I really liked this place. Though I went with a friend, it's a perfect date spot. Totally get that French vibe when walking in. Super quaint. We got the braised mushrooms and the quiche, followed by profiteroles for dessert. Let's start with the dessert. This brought down the rating to 4 stars, rather than a full 5. Profiteroles are the french version of cream puffs. Mercat decided to substitute cream for ice cream, which is fine. The chocolate sauce was fine too. What bothered me was the pastry did not seem french. I've had exceptional cream puffs before, so I have something to compare to. This didn't compare. The lack of fresh, fluffiness and rather stale taste ruined the profiteroles for me. The braised mushrooms with fried egg on top were amazing. My favorite part of the meal. The quiche was good. It was better than expected, as sometimes quiches are an easy miss, but Mercat did it well. I will have to come back to try more. read more

Omg, this bistro is the cutest place for brunch and the outdoor patio has heaters which makes it perfect for those that don't want to wait for an indoor spot. We came here for brunch and it was a little busy but they seated us quickly. We ordered the croque monsieur, tomato tart, mimosas and the green chili crepe. The croque monsieur is very very filling. It was a very standard ham with a white cheese and some butter on the bread. The bread tasted fresh and were very thick slices, the egg on top was a little too running for my taste, but it was tasty none the less. The tomato tart honestly tasted like pizza but on a flakier crust and it was a little disappointing that it was a bit soggy, especially for the price you pay. My bf loved the green chili crepe as well. Over all it was a little pricey but we were stuffed afterwards. Would and will be back!! read more

I was seated inside upon arriving. I requested to be placed in the enclosed patio. The table was dirty. The articles placed on the table were dusty. I was not helped until I asked after patiently waiting 15 minutes. It was not packed at all. The waiter advised me he did not come to help me because I was on the phone. I was a party of one and I looked at my phone from time to time but no phone conversations. I ordered the Crepe and Two Eggs My Way. The crepe was perfect in every way. A manager came by to bring my food and see if i needed anything. The waiter was very attentive after our initial conversation. The eggs were seasoned to perfection. The sausages were very flavorful. The potatoes were hard. Overall it was a great experience. The experience with the waiter I believe was a misunderstanding. He was very tentative and helpful for the remaining of time. I recently hosted a bridal shower at Mercat. From the minute I walked into the room it went down hill . The table configuration was not as we discussed, the linen selection was not as we discussed and then the real trouble began. I was told upon arrival that they would leave patio free for a period of time while cocktails were served and 10 minutes later they seated other guests there. The biggest shock came when I received the bill. I was charged for speciality drinks for 42 people, at least two of whom were pregnant and didn't drink . I was adamant about serving cocktails during a 30 minute window so was VERY surprised when I was billed for an $321 for pouring extra drinks. I feel like I was taken advantage of and could never recommend Mercat to any one. read more

We started with their weekend brunch, but seeing how well they do brunch, we now include them as one of our go to dinner restaurants. having spent sometime in Paris, I wouldn't call the Mercat a good cafe. A place you would fine walking down a street in Paris with your honey and popping in for a good meal to start your night off right. Service has always been 100% on point and the food has never let us down. We started with the steak tartar, mussels and a couple of great cocktails. For dinner we had the chicken for two. Mercat Bistro never disappoints. Everything we have tried is fabulous... Brie & tomato tart, quiche, omelettes, croque Madame and they have amazing coffees and cocktails. (I love the Jet Fuel cold brew) The atmosphere is intimate and cozy inside, a scenic patio invites you to dine out on a nice day. The service is friendly and attentive. However, the true selling point for me on this hidden gem is how wonderfully they treat my dog and I when we come to eat out on the patio. Above and beyond dog friendly and give her a bowl of kibble and water. I think this speaks volumes on their level of service and efforts. read more

Usually love Mercat. One of our favorite places. Today was a very disappointing experience. Sunday Brunch at this wonderful gem of Dallas provides fabulous atmosphere, personalized service and quite frankly the best Quiche Lorraine that we have ever had. Seriously, the best! Today the Quiche was not the usual delicacy. Normally the texture is flavorful and fluffy. Today it was thick with a rubbery, marble consistency and with zero taste. Normally the crust is flakey croissant. Today it was a hard crust. Normally it's served with a delicious side salad. That's been eliminated and replaced with a small round deep fried potato cake. So disappointing. We asked the manager if they had changed the recipe and he responded "yes, did you like it". My recommendation to those of you who go there for the best Quiche in Dallas, you might want to reconsider. It's just not the same. My husband and I had 9am (when they open) reservations on Saturday....we showed up at 8:30 because we had something arise that sped our morning up. David was incredibly accommodating even though the kitchen wasn't ready yet. He went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Food was perfect.....best coffee and croissants in the city!! We came here for a last meal before heading back to Austin. We loved the food- the service was more than disappointing. I was in traveling clothes, yoga pants and a tshirt. The hostess looked at me like I was something the cat drug in, even though there were people eating there right after a workout. They then seated us at a "community table" even though there were lots of cozy tables for the two of us to sit. We ordered the bread basket, fruit, coffee, and bacon to share. All of it was great. However, the waitress didn't even address me; she spoke only to my husband who happened to be wearing a polo shirt. Very disappointed with the service and offended that my money seemed to be less valuable because of my happened appearance. Will not be returning. read more

Best French cafe in town. They have everything. And everything is amazing! I had the salmon today and it was great. The apricot glaze was sweet and tasted fantastic in the fish. My girlfriend and I started with the cheese plate with some meats, and the roasted and brie tart. I would strongly recommend both. This place is really good. I could eat here for any meal because they have the best of every meal. You will not be disappointed going to this place. I can't wait to try more of their pastries but we had their chocolate chip cookies today and they were incredibly moist, fresh, and chocolatey. Be sure to go here and order everything you can. We were in town for work and were in the building, so we got lunch here two days. We did the grab-and-go options, which were really quick and easy. The selection was great the day we got there at 11:30, the other day we got there at 12:45 and it was really picked over but an employee offered to make us a salad or something if we didn't like the options that were left. The chicken pesto sandwich was absolutely delicious. The chicken caesar salad, not so much. It was totally bland and flavorless, and the dressing left a lot to be desired. Also instead of croutons there was just a big slab of hard, toasted bread on top, which was kind of difficult to eat. Overall, not a bad option for a quick, easy lunch, but I've had much better. read more

I had the best experience for brunch one Sunday. There was no wait, however I was alone and it was after the rush. I was sat at a cute 2 top. Water and pastries we're out super fast. My server Hannah was sweet, attentive, and recommended the green chili crepe that was amazing. It came out fast and hot too! The potatoes could have been better; I can make the same at my house. I also had a cappuccino in cute cup :) I don't like valet but that's the only option.
