    The Bachelor Party
    Alex H.

Merchants was an awesome time, and a very nice spot to relax for my buddies bachelor party downstairs in the bar/lounge area. I made a reservation on OpenTable for 8 for 9pm. We were still at dinner by 8:15 so I called to let them know we would be running a little late, they said no problem. We show up and walk down the really new and brightly lit walkway, after stepping through the ropes and stansions downstairs to the check in area, and was greeted with "we were expecting you" They had a whole area right in the front reserved for us and we sat down to relax. We had impeccable service from all angles. The manager, Kate, was very sweet and knowledgable about the products, offering to cut the cigar to your liking, offering drinks of any kind, and being attentive to anyone there. We enjoyed ourselves and happy to have refills on anything we needed, ice water, sparkling, food recommendations if you're hungry, and felt 0 rush at all. Brand new and wonderful staff, highly recommend!

Really cool spot! The cocktails were amazing. Huge selection and they all looked unreal. I had a blackberry one that was so delicious!! They seemed to have a wide variety of cigars that may boyfriend enjoyed looking through and picking one. He liked the one he picked. Came with a piece of cedar and matches the light the cigar. Super cool. Only sort of odd thing was the ambiance. I wish they played music instead of playing the sound from the tv. Maybe it's just because we were there a bit early. It wasnt busy at all on a Friday night at 8pm, no idea why it wouldn't be. Looking forward to bringing others here.

Came here during restaurant week & enjoyed my dining experience. Our waitress was really sweet- our food could've been warmer but I enjoyed a few of the dishes. The deviled eggs were good to me but my partner wasn't a fan. I enjoyed the steak with the mash- it was well seasoned & tasty, however the dessert could've been better. We also smoked a cigar there & enjoyed the lesson on that as well. It was an overall good time & I would come back!

We would like to Thank The Manager Devin and The Other Managers. All Fantast. We will be back ASAP. JJ MEDINA

We came here last night for Restaurant Week and it was amazing! The vibes are so great and the food is even better! We started off the night with some of their drinks: Margaritas and Whiskey. We then had the ricotta cheese dip and prosciutto with some bread. I definitely recommend the prosciutto! For our main course we had the skirt steak which came with a delicious sauce and some mashed potatoes and asparagus. We also had the lobster ravioli and there was so much lobster! We ended the night with their chocolate lava cake and peach cobbler which were both so yummy and melted in your mouth. They have an influx of cigar choices and the lady really helped choose one that was appealing to our taste.

Finish your night with a drink and a cigar . Good music cozy leather seats . With the cigars it is best to ask for a pairing drink. For a exclusive experience.

Really disappointed, I waited 20mins just for wait staff to ask me if I wanted to order. The only thing, I liked about the place was the deviled eggs. The service sucked!!

The Campbell -- Grand Central Terminal I attended a work…read moreevent at Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central and decided to take the elevator up to The Campbell for a nightcap. I've been a patron for decades, but this was my first visit in about two years, so I was curious to see what had changed. Quite a bit, apparently. The place was bustling, filled with a lively crowd of mostly Gen Zers, along with a sprinkling of commuters and after-work drinkers. I was served promptly and, as luck would have it, scored a coveted seat at the bar. My Negroni was excellent--properly balanced, well chilled, and exactly what I wanted at the end of the evening. Then came the check: $24 for one Negroni. I understand paying a premium for the setting. The Campbell is one of those uniquely New York bars where you're quite literally having a cocktail inside a piece of history. But $24 for a Negroni feels excessive. At that price, I'm not sure you're paying for the cocktail as much as you're paying admission to the room. And what a room it is. The Campbell dates to 1923, when railroad executive and financier John W. Campbell transformed the space into a lavish private office and entertaining suite. Despite the name, it was never actually an apartment. Campbell's office was designed to resemble a 13th-century Florentine palace, complete with a 25-foot ceiling, hand-painted details, leaded-glass windows, a mahogany balcony, and an imposing stone fireplace. The space has had quite the New York life: Railroad tycoon's private office broadcasting studio police holding area forgotten space legendary cocktail bar. After Campbell's death in 1957, the room fell into disrepair and went through several decidedly less glamorous incarnations before being restored and reopened as the Campbell Apartment cocktail lounge in 1999. It became a Midtown institution, particularly during the 2000s and early 2010s. Following a lease dispute, it closed in 2016 and reopened as The Campbell in 2017. Today, the historic architecture remains the star of the show. There is no denying that sitting at the bar in this magnificent room, tucked inside Grand Central, is a quintessential New York experience. Great atmosphere. Great history. Excellent Negroni. Prompt service. But $24 for a cocktail is a tough sell, even in Manhattan and even in a room this spectacular. For me, it was one and done.

The "Perfect" Pint is apparently a far cry from reality…read more Our server, Ruffino, seemed perfectly cordial at first, but that changed rather quickly when we discovered a 20% automatic gratuity added to our bill without any prior notice. We didn't find out about this little surprise until the check was placed on our table. Nothing like discovering an extra charge at the end of your meal that apparently everyone was supposed to know about except the customers. We went downstairs to the host stand and asked to speak with a manager. We were informed that there was no manager on duty--apparently, just a staff of bartenders. When we questioned the automatic gratuity, we were told that all orders over $100 automatically receive a 20% gratuity. There was just one small problem: we had never been informed of this policy, nor did we see it posted anywhere. We politely asked for the charge to be removed since it had not been disclosed to us. We were told there was "nothing that could be done." Naturally, we then went back to Ruffino and asked to speak with his boss. We were promptly brought the exact same person we had already spoken with downstairs--who then proceeded to tell Ruffino to remove the gratuity. So apparently, there was something that could be done. Good to know. Unfortunately, the situation then went from questionable customer service to outright disrespect. During the interaction, our experience working in the food service industry was insulted, and we were told, and I quote: "I feel bad for whatever establishment you worked for because I know it was S**T. Get the F**K out and never return." Classy. For the record, there were only four people in our party. The establishment's own gratuity guidelines state that a 20% automatic gratuity applies to parties of six or more, not four. So let's recap: * A 20% gratuity was added without being disclosed. * We were told it applied because our order exceeded $100. * We were unable to find this policy posted anywhere. * We were initially told nothing could be done about the charge. * Someone subsequently instructed Ruffino to remove it, proving that something could, in fact, be done. * And when we questioned the situation, we were insulted and told to leave and never come back. Honestly, the last part was the easiest request to accommodate. If "Perfect" is supposed to describe the customer experience here, I'd hate to see what happens at an establishment that's merely average. As for the request to "never return"--don't worry. We won't. Some establishments manage to make that decision remarkably easy for you.

Talking about the holiday party, we agreed to arrange a contest amongst a large group of us around who could better split the G. I called Patroon and confirmed they had Guinness on tap. Phew. To my disappointment the young owner/manager apologized and explained they did not have the glasses. No bother. We assembled some masking tape and sharpies and figured we would make our own Gs and play anyway. When we arrived and asked for 8 pints of the black stuff I was pleasantly surprised to see them poured in gleaming, beautifully etched, proper Guinness pint glasses! Many drinks later I saw the young owner/manager and asked about the glasses saying I thought he didn't have them. He explained that after he spoke to me by phone earlier in the day he thought it would be a nice surprise if he acquired the glasses from his beer distributor and had plenty of them on hand for us.
