I like Mesa Provisions, but I don't love it - the new restaurant is very loud, at times it was hard to hear the person next to me. Seems like they have a lot of new staff - friendly but not informed. The hostess stand needs a refresher on customer service it almost felt like we weee bothering them when we walked in - we had a great meal at the bar - we did ask for different seats at the bar and were told they were unavailable- not sure why since they were still empty when we left 2 and a half hours later. Food was good - lots of hits and a miss. I keep ordering the beets because I love beets but it is always too salty and I should just learn that lesson. Just one note, I think the restaurant needs to check the plumbing in the men's room - my friend complained that it smelled horrible ( not normal bathroom smells) Overall we had a nice time and the bartenders were great! read more

Some of the best and most interesting food in Albuquerque. Their smaller vegetarian plates are wow good. The fish and meat dishes are also excellent quality and delicious. It is worth going a couple times a year as the menu changes, this is also a bad thing because I a crave some of the dishes they removed. The pastry chief is also good, last year we had some icy fruity puree thing with maybe a goat cheese spread, I can't describe it but it was exceptional. We have had excellent service. Not pretentious. We take forever and then order half the menu. Everything comes out at the right time and perfect. read more

She also asked if we were celebrating anything and I said my friend's birthday and they didn't bring anything out for my friend (they brought a small birthday cake to the table next to us). The lack of cocktails on the menu. They were out of the pear salad. LIKE Our server Aubrey was knowledgeable and really nice. She also remembered my allergy when I tried to order steak tartare. We are here with reservations for dinner, were seated promptly, and the service was good. The smoked chicken was fantastic, great flavor and cooked perfectly. The pork was a little less done than I prefer, but the flavors and accompanying beans were a great combination. The wine selection was extensive, but more old world in juxtaposition to the local focused menu. We would have loved some New Mexican wine options to go with the local sourced food! This is a wonderful place to check out dinner. It's a hip and happening place and the ambiance is good (and casual enough) for just about anything (more casual catch up or even nicer meals for more special occasions). I was there to celebrate a birthday with my friend and we tried a couple of items. I liked that the meals seemed more freshly made and I guess they do rotate the menu often enough..so it's nice you can just try something new the next time you stop by. Prices are what you can expect. It's a little pricey, but not anything too out of ordinary (still cheaper than what you have to pay in big foodie cities like SF/Seattle/NYC. The food presentation was good and the taste was fine. I just wish they have a bit more selection and more pronounced flavors on them (it's slightly bland for my taste..but of good quality..and plus I'm so used to super flavorful Asian food..so I'm a little biased). Great place in town for dinner. Do make a reservation ahead of time to ensure you get a table as it can get crowded though (or gamble on a seat at a bar). For a friend's visit, we made reservations at Mesa Provisions, which came highly recommended by some local friends. Please make a reservation first, if not, you will be waiting hours for a table as a walk in. Even though the greeting staff is not very welcoming, the rest of the culinary journey was delightful. The place is not very distinctive, more on the low key side even. The walls had incredible art from a local artist. Once we sat, our server was quite attentive, friendly, and helpful with the description of each course. We ate a lot of things from the menu, as their model is shareable/family dining. We ordered the biscuits and scallop crudo to start. The biscuits had a little hint of green chile and the honey butter made them shine with flavor. The scallops, with a little hint of spice from the aguachile, was refreshing. We continued with bbq beats. If I just had a plate with these beets, I would have been quite satisfied. They were smokey, a little bit sweet and the sweet potato fritters were amazing! For the last course, we had a very tender and unique pork osso buck with blue hominy that gave the dish a bit of a soft and satisfying bite. The smoked half chicken was juicy and nicely sweetened with the red chile honey. Few times have I had this level of deliciousness in chicken! The pepita crema was to die for. The pintos were less interesting than the fluffy and buttery tortillas. The flanked beef short ribs were ok, quite similar to a home made carne asada. The pacing of the dishes coming was just perfect to enjoy each and every one of them. The food was fantastic. I am compelled to say it again, the food was abso-freaking-lutely, f'ing fantastic! Between the wife and I, we ordered 5 items and every single one was delicious. We are meat people and enjoyed the veggie preparations tremendously. This was an absolute treat of a dinner. Sadly we did not save room for dessert. So about the rest of the experience itself, it was nice. We were lucky to get a last minute reservation for two, late-ish around 8 pm, which is fine for us. We got there a bit early to find parking but it wasn't too bad and we found something nearby. It's all street parking btw. The restaurant itself is very minimalist. Its decently sized with a tiny tiny waiting area. Fortunately we were the only ones waiting and were seated pretty quickly. All the staff are really nice and contributed to a wonderful evening for us. Five stars plus plus. If we are ever back in ABQ we will be making reservations ahead of time to revisit. read more

Still savoring our experience at Mesa Provisions. What a memorable dining experience full of unexpected flavors and reminders of what I love most about food and dining. My honey husband and I enjoyed a wonderful meal at this James Beard nominated restaurant last night. The chef prepared everything to perfection, and service was excellent. I loved the flavor combinations in the harissa carrots. The toast was delicious but I found it challenging to eat with so many large ingredients on one piece of toast. Ribeye was cooked perfectly medium/medium rare with amazing seasoning. The mushrooms were warm and flavorful. Green beans perfectly cooked with a dusting of Parmesan atop. The chicken was fabulous with the slaw, sauce and duck fat tortillas making little bites of tacos, almost like a fajita. Have already scheduled our next reservation! No wonder they are booked out weeks in advance. What's cool about the decor is you don't feel like you're in Abq anymore. It feels like NYC or somewhere else. Dark curtains help you feel transported away from Central and the bathroom is painted so beautifully I had to take a selfie. My favorite unique aspect of the service was the check is brought in a journal and you can read memories from everyone else who has dined before you. read more

Biscuits, yes! Great on their own with a little kick from the green chili's. Try the red chili butter with it. Burrata cheese toast (only here while they can get fresh tomatoes), amazing! The burrata is so creamy, and crispy prosciutto is wonderful and the pesto! And the heirloom tomatoes! Heaven! Next, trout with mustard greens, pesto, radish: every bite was so very very good. The green garlic pesto was different than the pesto on the burrata toast but maybe even better! This spot is farm to table, so the ingredients are fresh fresh fresh! And the menu will change with availability. Oh, and no small thing ever, our wait staff did a top notch job Don't miss this! read more

We were lucky enough to get a reservation here during Balloon Fiesta week. My hope was to impress my Texan guests with NM cuisine and that hope was not only met but exceeded. Everything about this experience was exceptional. Our server was knowledgeable and gracious. She advised that the menu had just recently turned over to local fall selections and we took full advantage. Their menu is one page, with starters/shareable plates up top and main entrees towards the bottom. We ordered homemade biscuits and Brussel sprouts and while the menu descriptions didn't seem to lean towards SW flavors, they come through loud and clear in the seasoning. The biscuits had good heat and the butter was mixed with red Chile. The Brussel sprouts were crispy and complex, with goat cheese and nutty accompaniments. Our main entrees included the burger (with slab bacon and "marrownaise" which was to die for), the pork chop (enormous and exquisitely tender), the ruby trout (I had a bite and it was tender and fresh) and the smoked chicken (my husband had the gall to turn his nose up at the duck fat tortillas and then had to eat his words when he had to beg the waitress for an extra order of them because they were so good!) Everything was super fresh, cooked to perfection, and unlike any other place in ABQ. I loved the atmosphere, with just about 15-20 tables total. It was small, warm and I left with a full belly! Very chill and eclectic dinner spot. So many people recommended the green chili biscuits- glad I listened! I thoroughly enjoyed the chili burger and fries. Enough fries for 4 people! My partner in crime had the smoked 1/2 chicken- outstanding! The waitress was pleasant, efficient, and accommodating. In fact, the staff works together & serves/busses as necessary. I don't think I have ever walked into a restaurant that was so uninviting. And I have had the same experience in this restaurant twice. The food might be great but the front of the house with the exception of the bartender was almost rude. We walked out twice and I doubt that we will ever return. read more

The saganaki appetizer needed to be on fire a bit longer to get to the right melty consistency, more bread and really needed a good "OPA!" Definitely make this a stop when in Nob Hill. It opened up during Covid and definitely deserves a dinner date if you are just getting out there again in the post Covid world. Great service and delicious food. While it is on the pricier side for Albuquerque, it was worth it. Dinner for 2 without alcohol was 100 (without tip). Downsides: lacks ambiance and not a full bar menu. Things to definitely try (not all pictured! Sorry!) - shrimp and toast (unexpectedly me and my partners favorite.) -kale salad - get your greens and this is where to get it! - Ny Steak- order medium rare. How do you go to New Mexico and find a gem in the rough? I don't know but we found it in Albuquerque, New Mexico!!! We went to Albuquerque to visit our daughter for her baby shower 10.9.21, then after words we wanted to treat her and my future son-in-law to dinner. Well my son-in-law couldn't make it due to another obligation. I found Mesa Provisions (opened a month and a half ago) by chance looking through the new businesses that opened a month and a half ago, with 9 reviews all 5 stars and I believe 4 Yelp Elites, visited before me. Intriguing.... The desert menu sealed the deal for us! I called earlier to see if we could put the sauce on the side for my daughters hanger steak because she is pregnant the sauce on the side worked for her If it worked for them. I spoke to the host that didn't know, who asked the waitress who wasn't sure who then asked the Chef if we could do that, sure if they would like to. One last note, Mesa Provisions, please utilize the HOLD or MUTE feature.... Here is the thing, I absolutely have 1000% nothing but respect for Chef Steve Riley's art. If it wasn't for my daughter's pregnancy I wouldn't have asked as I noticed how tight the menu is small to make sure that they can make each one to perfection. Perfection is what it was! So, I made a reservation for 7:15. We arrived a little early 6:45, I noticed some tables empty so I asked if we could be seated early, unfortunately not. Although, they have a bar top where they don't take reservations, so we opted for the bar top. MJ F. was our server for tonight, superstar.. yes! MJ made us feel like home, apologized for the wait for the food, which I knew they had a table of 12 that was waiting for their food. I don't mind waiting as long as it is worth it. It sure was, we asked MJ a lot of questions. she nailed the all the answers, and it was almost like we were friends that haven't seen each other in a bit. We ordered the Sweet Potato Fritter small plate with Black Garlic Aioli, Green Chile Black Sesame in the Burnt Honey! This is a must try! Perfectly browned soft and fluffy like a doughnut hole (but 100000% better) When you bite into the Fritter it is like biting into a fluffy sweet potato heaven! I ordered the Shrimp and Little neck clams with amazing sauce made out of Sherry Wine, Tomato, Potato, Herbs and 2 pieces of baguette to soak up all the saucy goodness. Where in the world do you get fresh Clams and Shrimp in Albuquerque, New Mexico? Mesa Provisions! This dish was fresh and refreshing, with the right amount of herbs. It didn't sound filling or complicated taste, I was WRONG! Flavor explosion in your mouth! My wife had the Pappardelle (Pappardelle pasta is an Italian flat pasta cut into a broad ribbon shape. This pasta's name comes Italian pappare, a verb which means "to gobble up.") with Rosemary Burrata (a semisoft white Italian cheese made from mozzarella and cream) and Bacon Ragu. The Pappardelle taste homemade along of course with the Ragu again with just the right amount of herbs and bacon. I have never had Burrata before it was delicious! My daughter had the Hanger Steak (approx. 1.5 to 2 in thick) Porcini Butter, Maitake Mushrooms, Root Vegetables, Wheatberries (Wheat berries are the edible part of the wheat kernel, including the bran, the germ, and the endosperm, before the grain undergoes any processing.) and Red Wine Jus. My daughter absolutely fell in love with her Hanger Steak! Tender, melt in your mouth, with the Porcini Butter smeared and melted down and in the steak.....OMG!! I tried it along with the Root Vegetables Lightly roasted crunchy and Wheatberries hearty grain worth a spot on the plate.... Finally what you and what we were waiting for....time for Dessert!!!! S'Mores Tart and it got a better upgrade. Instead of Graham cracker crust that I heard they used before...BUT this one...This one had a Dark Chocolate crust... ALL dark chocolate with dark chocolate filling and TOASTED Homemade marshmallow fluff? cream? Whatever it was it was over the moon! Now you only get a half of a Tart, that is all you need! HEAVEN! To the pastry chef you ROCK!!! Overall we couldn't believe the freshness of the ingredients, amount of flavor, Vegan options and all around great people. You deserve to indulge! I'm throughly please with this dining experience! The staff is friendly and top notch, and know their wine (!!). We are here for our anniversary and this place came highly recommended from friends. I ordered the duck breast and my husband got the angus steak and both were drool worthy. I'm a duck snob (as in I love it and cook it myself), and theirs was incredible. The steak too was packed with flavor. We loved the recommendation for the wine as well since their wine list is fairly uncommon. The atmosphere is relaxed, but you need reservations. The bathrooms are even cool with hand painted murals. Now we're looking at the dessert menu and it looks amazing! I'd highly recommend a visit or three. read more

I've been here a few times and always leave wondering what the hoopla is all about. We gave the new location a chance. Same hostess. Same bad attitude. We like to course things out so we ordered an appetizer hoping to make dinner decisions as we had a snack. Nope! You have to order everything at once. Extremely underwhelmed. I started with an old fashioned style cocktail and the house bitters were not a good fit and muddled the drink. The Ribeye had a stuffed pepper on top with a bed of sauce. What a lovely addition to Nob Hill! The space can only be described as refreshing. The decor is light and airy with cool tones scattered about. Tonight was their opening night and you could tell the staff was super excited to be opening. We were greeted with a warm welcome upon entry. I had made a reservation online which made things so much easier. I highly recommend making a reservation, especially as they have just opened and are getting into their groove. The menu is definitely on the fancier side, prepare to really savor your meal. This is not a place I would recommend for super casual dining, would be a great spot for date night or a special occasion. The menu is small but a curated experience with each dish. I started with the peach salad and my first thought was the tomatoes were super fresh, exactly what you would pluck fresh from the plant in your garden. The jalapeños were an interesting addition but I'm not mad. I then got the shrimp and clams which were amazing, I got my seafood fix. Mesa Provisions is one of my local go-to spots. I love the wide variety of dishes and we stop by regularly when there are new items on the menu. We tried most of the Fall 2023 menu and the cabbage was my personal favorite - so good that we came back twice in a week! You can't go wrong with the Spiced Carrots, Brussel Sprouts Toast or the Mesa Burger. The shoestring fries add-on is also a must. The Dry-Aged Bison Ribeye was very unique though perhaps a little heavy handed with the beans on the side. We would've loved more butter with the steak. There are two things of note that I don't love about Mesa and they are 1) if you reserve for a large party, they charge you a deposit. It isn't clear how the deposit is used on your final bill and I ended up paying WAY more than I should have (didn't realize this until after when I was looking at my credit card charges). And 2) their dessert options are abysmal compared to their main dishes. The panna cotta was stodgy and tasted more like Jell-O than the creamy, decadent consistency a true panna cotta should be. We've given Mesa the benefit of the doubt and ordered dessert multiple times, and every time I'm left beyond disappointed - don't bother! Overall, we'll likely continue to venture to Mesa since food and service are both overall very solid. read more

For dropping $250 with tip, this place could loose the pretentious arrogance for producing such a terrible steak covered in fries to the point I didn't even know the steak was on the plate. My partner and I visited Mesa Provisions to celebrate the holidays together and it was a feast for the eyes and palate. From the moment we walked in the energy felt warm and inviting. The space is somehow both upscale and casual at the same time. We were greeted promptly by Steve Riley and taken to our table near the rear of the restaurant surrounded by whimsical artwork by local artist, Nicki Zabicki. Our waitress, Erin, explained that the menu is meant to be served family style which is something that appealed to me when searching for good eats in Albuquerque. For starter's we had the BBQ beets (Erin's recommendation), the biscuits, and the grilled shrimp. I've never been a big fan of beets but Mesa Provisions may have changed my mind. Sweet and tangy on first bite and then savory through the middle, I wouldn't skip this one if you're in town. My partner really enjoyed the green chile biscuit and red chile honey butter although they were a little too spicy only because I'm a spice wimp. Next up were the grilled shrimp which were served alongside green curry, winter squash and purple dikon radish. Both my partner and I wish we had more shrimp only because it was so good. It may have been our favorite from the night. Just the right amount of kick. I chose the short ribs for my entree paired with a glass of a full bodied red that was recommended by Erin (can't recall the name). Fall apart tender and served over parsnip puree. If you're one of those people that does a happy dance when you're just so pleased with you're meal then you know how good this must have been. My partner ordered the smoked half chicken. Have you ever had duck fat tortillas? If not, they're amazing. I could have had a whole stack. Did I steal them for myself? Yes. Yes I did. Nice ambience, top-notch service,! We were a party of four... Everyone else was happy with their culinary experience. The only flaw was I ordered the mushroom enchiladas. They arrived tepid at Best. I tried to eat it, but was not enjoying it so I informed the server. I just asked for it to be warmed up. She brought back a newly prepared plate. It was definitely warmer, but still not hot enough. I accepted it from her as it was. Overall, the dish was tasty, but the mushrooms were a little chewy. I would not order it again. Beer & wine options very pricey. Four glasses of wine and two beers constituted half of the $250 check. With that said... Everyone in the party agreed that they would not hesitate to come back. read more

We realized they do have a seasonal menu, so obviously, items will change. What was on the menu seemed pretty typical items. Boy, we were surprised! ALL the food we ordered were full of flavor from the fetat dates,to the tamarind yogurt puree, to the white bean miso puree to the cauliflower puree on both large bishes. I made a reservation weeks in advance for a Father's Day dinner for myself, my wife and my daughter, who lives out of town. The reservation was confirmed the day before. I received a call from the restaurant two hours before the reservation that they only had a two top and could not accomadate three. They did offer bar seating which was unacceptable. To add insult to injury, they tried to state that I had originally made the reservation for two and tried to change it to three, which was unequivally wrong and no apology was offered. I find this kind of customer service unacceptable and cannot recommend this restaurant. read more
