It's hard to say anything bad about this place. The Mesa Street Grill has been a staple restaurant in my life here in El Paso, definitely one of the top local restaurants all-around. It's flexible, with an outdoor, casual seating arbor (nicely misted and temperature controlled, absolutely beautiful to spend a few hours) and a high-end, fine dining experience inside. Long ago I had the best sea bass of my life inside this restaurant, but the prices are outstanding (worth it for the food) and the dress too fancy to ever bring me back to the fine dining again, unfortunately. However, we went for a light dinner and adored the patio seating and bar menu. Their bar burger is HUGE and delicious, the Greek salad refreshing (but very, very sweet), and of course the bacon-jalapeño appetizers are on point. Their pressed coffee is to die for, along with the creme brûlée cheesecake (for as long as it's on the menu.) Four stars because of the price and my super sweet (and olive-devoid) "Greek" salad. Gonna miss the original location. It reopens after they close the old one supposedly around the 23rd of July (could be later, don't take my word.) read more

Wasn't sure what to expect based on the overall rating. This place is underrated. The atmosphere is lovely, the bar area is amazing. We ate outside on their porch. We're from Chicago, so 50° is quite warm for winter! Claudio was an outstanding server. We had the Iceberg lettuce. The presentation was the best I've seen. The cashews were a pleasant addition.Yummy! We ordered the filet & NY Strip with Green Chile Casserole. We stay away from carbs. The prices of the meats were Chicago prices. The meats were done exactly how we requested them. It was also served with a bacon wrapped stuffed japeno! Maybe El Pasoeans don't use Yelp as often as Chicagoans do which may explain why such a low rating. I think this is a classy place with great food. read more

This was a great place for me and the wife to come for our anniversary. The staff was really friendly, our waitress(Elsa) was helpful on what to eat. Definitely would come again even though the place is expensive, be prepared to spend some money for a good time. read more

This place was definitely fancy, in the best way possible. Table cloths, lit candles, beautiful glass, copper fixtures. I wasn't turned away in my jorts and gray t-shirt. Not that I was given the heads up that, "Hey Margaret, we will be going someplace fancy tonight". I dressed up more for Red Lobster the night before but whatever. Sorry, beautiful multi-racial couple canoodling over plates of pasta, that I may have spoiled your view. I elected to get two sides, rather than a main dish. The Lobster Mac and Cheese and the Vegetable Tempura. The Lobster Mac was heavenly and the tempura managed to turn broccoli into pillow-ly bites of breaded joy. This place was OUTSTANDING! I came by for lunch after checking into my hotel. I arrived around 11:30 and there were only about 5 people there, but by 12pm it was packed with professional people. I couldn't decide what to order, so the bartender let me sample 2 of the soups (steak soup & cream of green chile). Both were delish but the green chile was my fave! First time having it & it was very yummy. I ended up ordering the Marsala chicken dish and boy were my tastebuds dancing. It was delectable! A lot of reviews have mentioned that this place would be average in most cities, but in El Paso it stands out, I completely agree with those sentiments. The first thing about Mesa Street that impressed me was that they take online reservations, how non-El Paso is that?! Awesome! The bacon-wrapped jalapeños are really good, a little intimidating since the jalapeño isn't breaded, but just remember that the cheese and bacon will be there to protect you. I also had the lobster mac & cheese, which was also good despite being a little light on the lobster meat, though that isn't very surprising. As far as the atmosphere, I won't lie, this place is a little cramped in. You can call it "intimate" if you want, but expect to feel REALLY close to the table next to yours. Restrooms are also tiny, its a small place. BUT what matter is that the food is good and the servers are friendly, so 4-stars it is! read more

Both times we have been here, we sat in the bar area. While the food is slightly above average, I couldn't imagine ever coming here for dinner and sitting in the main dining area. Also, both times the Guinness on tap was having issues. We had Sam Adams Oktoberfest in its place. The stuffed jalapenos are tasty but don't have the heat we like, and they use a different cheese than we use at home(Ranchero is the best.) The sandwiches and plates we had were all pretty good, but nothing to rave about. Matter of fact that sums up the whole review. Pretty good, but nothing to rave about, hence the 3 stars. This place doesn't possess the ambiance nor culinary wow to justify the prices to me. read more

I selected the Mesa Street Grill to take my boyfriend to dinner for his birthday and we definitely enjoyed it. Loved: EVERYTHING My boyfriend ordered the 16 oz steak with asparagus and I had the spicy shrimp pasta. We enjoyed the food so much I forgot to take a picture for my review lol. We also received a complimentary desert for the birthday boy, vanilla ice cream drizzled with chocolate, chocolate cake and a side of fruit. The service was impeccable, our server made perfect food and drink suggestions. I will definitely return here on my next visit to El Paso. read more

My husband and I came here for Valentine's Day last night. I have to say I love the decor and ambiance. Very small but very elegant. Our server AB was very accommodating. I ordered the crab cake and petite filet and my husband ordered the filet and baked potato. Our food took about an hour to come out but it was Valentine's Day so that was to be expected. My filet was cooked to perfection. The crab cake was great as well although I did find some shell in the crab cake. My dish came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. It would've been nice to have some sort of sauce on the mashed potatoes or the steak. I understand steakhouses aren't big on sauces but it just seemed a little dry. The only sauce was a thin line of chipotle mayo for the crab cake. My husband's filet was great. He loved it. I didn't like how it was served a la cart. For 40 bucks you'd think something would come on the side. We had to pay $8 for a mediocre baked potato. $150 later, we enjoyed our dinner very much but I have had better service and food for less. read more

The attention to detail was amazing. We were celebrating my brother's birthday. The restaurant called to confirm my reservation and asked for the name of the person whose birthday we were celebrating. When we arrived at the Restaurant, they printed a special menu with Happy Birthday and my brother's name. It was such an excellent detail and a great keepsake of the dinner. The food was delicious, we had a feast. We tried the cheese board, the fried oysters, and the lobster bisque. The service was great, and our server was nice and accommodating. We had a dietary restriction, and she was able to determine that the dish did have the ingredient quickly so that we could order something else. We had the following dishes, the duck, the caesar salad, the salmon, the pork chop, the delmonico steak, and the shrimp pasta. The drinks and beer selection were great. They even brought a chocolate dessert with a sparkler for the birthday so we could sing Happy Birthday. Overall the service and attention given to our table of 6 were amazing, and the food was delicious. We will definitely come back when we're in El Paso so that we can try the other dishes. read more

Mesa Street used to be one of the better restaurants in town....not anymore. The wife and I went out tonight needing a solid dining experience so Mesa Street immediately came to mind.....good drinks and excellent food, right? Well, that wasn't our experience tonight. We started off with a couple glasses of wine...I had their best Cabernet and my wife had their best Chardonnay by the glass....both were just okay. I understand it's by the glass but they should step up the quality a bit. My wife ordered the chicken and sausage pasta but substituted the thick pasta with spaghetti....when it arrived it was the thick noodles, okay no big deal but acknowledge it....after we brought it up the waitress just said "oh sorry, we didn't have spaghetti pasta." The flavor was good. I was feeling more casual so I order the meatball sub....she came back and said they didn't have any meatballs so reselect...bummer....so I ordered their ribeye medium with a side of asparagus. My steak came out very rare....I asked them to cook it to medium.....she took it back and I waited while my wife ate her entree. When it came back, there was no visible difference in the steak....same exterior color. The steak was warmer but still rare. The other big issue is this is supposed to be a USDA prime dry aged piece of beef but really doesn't seem like it...it's very chewy. By this point, I'm no longer hungry and quite put off by the steak so I leave half of it and turn it on it's side so the waitress can see how undercooked it is. Once she comes to pick up my plate, I politely tell her that she may want to show it to the chef so he can see that he undercooked it twice. She said "yeah it is very rare" We had another glass of the next best wine each and same thing, if you're charging $11-13 for a glass they should be better than "okay." I started to wonder how they'd handle our situation(4 mistakes).....I'm not at all about hand outs and I've never asked for free items but I just wondered. NOTHING....got our bill and every item was charged full price with no apologies....with tip it was $160 for a very mediocre meal. I think the steak was $45-50 alone and definitely not worth it all. The asparagus was very good though. I gave his place 3 stars because in previous visits, other plates and appetizers have been good....tonight I had a pretty crumby experience and they handled it completely wrong. read more

The good: Our food had excellent presentation, the vegetables were perfect, the steak was tasty, and the salmon was fine although very mild in seasoning. Service was spectacular. The bad: The mango tea had goopy syrup in the bottom. Pretty disgusting to take a sip of it. Overall the atmosphere at the restaurant is fine, but definitely not fine dining. Service not good at all; had a patio reservation for 12-15 during Happy Hour. Didn't receive a happy hour menu then when we ASKED for one - that's what we got -- ONE. We were there over THREE HOURS just trying to have A cocktail and appetiers for dinner. WAS NOT IMPRESSED WITH the food, prices, or service. I originally wanted prime rib but they don't have prime rib. So I tried the arachera steak. Ordered medium rare. Was given something more on the medium and a side of veggies. We watched for over 20 minutes how she handed the check to one table, and serviced another table with drink orders and appetizers. Portion were small and nothing was overwhelmingly good in taste. Nothing was really bad, just not really all that great. The bad: Sat in the (enclosed ) patio area where we were horrified to realize that they allowed smoking. I wish the hostess would have mentioned that when she asked us where we'd like to sit. It's been a long time since I sat next to people smoking in a restaurant and this just did me in. We had already started on drinks and apps when we realized it, so we didn't ask to be moved ( I'm sure they would have, restaurant wasn't busy). Probably won't return. My wife and I decided to stop and grab brunch while out in El Paso and we decided to give Mesa Street Grill a try. Upon coming to the restaurant, the parking lot was mostly empty. We thought maybe because it's a Sunday it's just not busy. We proceeded in. We were seated quickly with only one other visible table occupied. We ordered a skinny coloda each and started with the chicharron de rib eye for an appetizer. When opening our silverware BOTH sets of silverware were dirty. We requested new silverware- which was supplied. The new sets we were brought were also dirty. Our third set of silverware was finally clean. The skinny colodas were mostly ice and very little mixed drink. Our Chicharron De Ribeye had a good texture and marinated. The steak and eggs I ordered and the Black and Blue Burger my wife ordered were both very underwhelming. The steak and eggs were under seasoned, cold on arrival and the potatoes were still partially undercooked. The back and blue burger was soggy on arrival, wilted lettuce, and her side of fries were cold. I don't believe we will be returning to this establishment after this visit. read more

My wife and I came to dinner prior to the Il Divo concert and made a reservation. We were sat promptly by the bar and things went sour after. The ambience is excellent and the look and feel of the restaurant convey luxury. The restrooms are kept clean and tidy. The service that I received was spotty and did not match the price of the meals nor the image of the restaurant. It took more than ten minutes for someone to come give us the dining menu. We opted for something light and we both made entrees out of the shareable menu. My wife had the ceviche and she did not like it (neither did I after a tasting) because it was distractingly spicy. I had the cheese and meats platter which was missing the dry Cotta and Italian salami. Aside from the missing meats, the platter was appetizing, great tasting and definitely filling enough to serve as an entree. When I asked my server about the missing meats he told me that the kitchen had ran out of the other meats and just served me additional prosciutto. I can't verify any of this since I have no way of knowing what a regular prosciutto serving looked like compared to the one I had. Not once did a server offer to refill my diet Coke and in the end, after I asked for my bill I asked for one. For desert we had the five layered chocolate cake and it was very good, both moist and full of flavors. Overall, for there are better choices to dine in El Paso of you're looking to spend over $60 for a two person dinner. read more

I'll get straight to the point here: the food was fantastic tasting, a bit too pricey for the portion size you get, and definitely order the creme brûlée cheesecake. I had the duck dinner and it was extremely tender with a nice taste that wasn't overpowering. The portion size was right for a female like myself, but I worry that an adult male would still be a bit hungry just ordering an entree from here. The drinks menu was satisfyingly large and there isn't a dessert menu, but one memorized by your server (AKA you can't see the prices). The womens' bathroom is an interesting space.. a bit cramped and geometric, but very clean. This is a nice spot if you're feeling like treating yourself to kind waiters and fancy food. read more

So I love any place that has a kickass south African wine and loungy swingy music which creates a great ambiance the entire time I was there. Came in at a pretty odd time on Sat, I ordered this bottle of wine that I have been eyeing for... had some side veggies to snack on - both are excellent - Mushroom was juicy, sweet with burst of basil and pepper; Brussel sprouts were no less yet they were swimming in oil :) but I liked how they were only swimming - they were sauteed not fried. But... what I was really inspired, was the music. I came home with 5 new songs downloaded from the time I was there. Whoever curated the music was AWESOME. read more

We celebrated my parents' 70th Anniversary by having a family lunch here. The staff was amazing, the food was fantastic, and the patio was a perfect place for our family to gather. Chris, the maitre d', made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. He and event coordinator Michelle had personalized menus made for us for the occasion. Corey, Ivan, and Hopper were incredible servers, so friendly and attentive. When they saw our little great niece, they brought her a balloon to play with. They even decorated the plate that held my parents' dessert complete with a sparkler! Their attention to detail was incredible and everyone had a great time.
