Wow! This was a KFC. Not very good. We had the lunch burritos and Hunt had a appetizer poblano. Extraordinary. Perhaps the best I have ever had. I really over ate, not something I do. To begin, the inside has been gutted and new seating installed, including new booths with attractive Mexican scenes. A bar has been installed with liquor, wine and beer. We were seated and salsa and chips given to us along with a 1/3 cup apiece of a Mexican noodle soup. The soup was perfect with black beans and probably a chicken base. Clearly homemade. The salsa too was homemade. Really good with large chunks of tomatoes. Could use a little more cilantro. Hunt, my wife, had a poblano appetizer. It was fabulous with a poblano served with ground beef. It was more than enough for a linch, I got some which she shared. I had the lunch burrito. An outstanding burrito served with a queso blanco sauce which was really spectacular. It also included black beans, rice (very interesting had corn and poblano pepper shreds. A+. You need to eat here. I am from Texas so Mexican food is very personal to me. Mesquite Grill exceeded my expectations. I tried the Mexican Stew, which I can't seem to find in Atlanta. Knocked my socks off. Rich and delicious. My sweetheart got the Vallarta and the flavors were complex and delicious. Did not expect that from a small town restaurant. Mesquite Grill is right off 515 in Blue Ridge. It's location is great if you just want to avoid the downtown area and sometimes we do. The building used to be a KFC and even though it's been completely redone, something about the restaurant itself still has that fast food feel. We were there for drinks and dinner last Saturday. The tables filled up fast. It was lively and energetic. They have a full bar so you can have that practically required margarita with your Mexican meal. The food is good but not remarkable. There is a full menu with lots of reasonably priced choices. The service was really good, friendly and attentive. Fun nite. We'll go back again. read more

We've eaten here for lunch and dinner about half a dozen times, and gotten take-out a few times as well. It's always good. Very generous portions, super friendly service, fair prices (especially at lunch!) and tasty food. Great family place, has options for kids even if they aren't big Mexican food eaters. Mine have ordered everything from enchiladas to mac-and-cheese, and one exclusively orders the burrito dog. They both like the rice over the fries (which is a testament to the rice!) The house margaritas were average, but the rest of the food more than makes up for it. Always enjoy seeing a local place do well, and their full parking lot is well deserved. read more

Meh. There's nothing that really stands out about this place. My shredded chicken was slightly over-cooked, the tamale was kinda bland and I don't think throwing corn on something makes it "tex-mex" at all. However, they serve alcohol. So, I guess drink a little before you eat and it'll be a little better. read more

Mesquite Grill is a welcome addition to Blue Ridge. They have great TexMex food. They are fairly new, still adjusting and a few new waiters are still learning, but management is great and accommodating if your order is wrong (thank you Julie!). I would rather eat here than at the other Mexican place in town. Food is very well seasoned and very tasty. Chips and salsa are great, so is the hot queso. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant of all time. The food is amazing and I've never had bad service. The skinny margarita is to die for.

Okay, long story but it's just a one time experience that we had. We got there around 8:45 pm, they close @9. We asked if it's okay to come in since they were closing fairly soon. They said sure come in and have a seat. So far so good. Server comes over and is very polite and a good listener. We order the margaritas and my mom ordered the guacamole dip. He comes out first with the chips and dip: the chips were cold (which makes sense if it's the end of the day) but the guacamole was literally a small bowl of two slices of avocado. No seasoning, no cilantro, no tomatoes, no onion. We ask the waiter why the guacamole looked like that and he said "because guacamole is made from avocado." Um yea we know that. We kept trying to explain it's not guacamole dip and we just wanted the dip. So he finally asks if we want to have some of the stuff that goes with it, and brings out the tomato, the onion, and the cilantro. At this point we were like wtf is happening here. Entrees come out, my brother and I have two large burritos. He ordered his specifically without guacamole (which at this point was still just avocado). During the period between our guacamole incident and getting our food the server came back and made sure I wanted beans and rice on my burrito, "yes please." Burrito comes out, no rice and beans whatsoever. Halfway through the burrito the margaritas finally came out, which we kind of anticipated to come out first. Overall, I think the biggest issue was the kitchen, and the servers communication. He was very respectful though and did want to make sure we had what we wanted. Yes, we did come in at a time where they were closing, but we asked to make sure it was okay so it wasn't inconvenient for them. They said it was fine. read more

Great Mexican restaurant! People are very kind and attentive to your needs. The food was wonderful! I was feeling lucky today and decided to try the ground beef instead of chicken! It was very good, so next time it will be beef all the way for me. Mom had the burrito lunch combo (beef). I think it was called Peter? She is not a big eater, but almost ate the whole thing. Don't know if I'd be considered a Mexican Cuisine Expert, but being a lover of it and having eaten at many Mexican Restaurants in my various travels I would venture to claim knowing the difference between good, fair, horrible, and great. This place is GREAT! It's in the high 80's outside; my wife and I visit on the 4th July weekend, and I see Shrimp Soup on the menu. The cook made some just for me. Fresh veggies, fresh shrimp, and the broth clearly had both chicken stock and shrimp stock. By far, the best seafood Mexican soup is ever had. By the way, my wife had a dish that she loves and usually has to explain exactly what she wants, but for the first time the meal she craves often was on the menu....she said it was wonderful. read more

Literally the only reason this place is rated so highly is because they are the only Mexican restaurant in town that serves alcohol. You will be better off driving to another county to buy tequila and making margaritas at home than going here. Seriously. Don't go here. A bad night or a bad restaurant? Upon entering this "Mexican restaurant," I was met with a 15 minute wait to FIND OUT how long it would be to wait. It then took ten more minutes of heckling to get our name on the waitlist. We were then instructed to wait out on the back deck despite it being the middle of winter. After another twenty minute wait, our party of five let them know we could just pull up a chair at a four person table. The host and the child waiter then argued about it for a minute before agreeing to seat us. After another 15 minutes and some more heckling we got our order taken. We had been at the restaurant for about an hour by that point. After literally another hour and much asking where our food was we were told our order was taken to the wrong table and they just never bothered to give it to us. This was a lie, they just never put our order in the first place. After asking us "what did we order again?" They brought us out a rough interpretation of what our original order was. For example, our cheese quesadillas were just straight chicken in a tortilla and the one actual cheese quesadilla they did manage to produce had about as much cheese as a single craft cheese square. Their rice resembled the Uncle Ben's rice that can be made in a microwave in sixty seconds and their margaritas either had no alcohol or so much it was undrinkable. All in all the only competent person working at this establishment was a minor who may or may not of been associated with the restaurant and probably shouldn't of legally been working there. Very average, I have had better! The salsa I would give a 4 Star, it was very good! I had a soft taco and the meat was not seasoned but I find that very usual for Mexican restaurants. Well I've come here many times. Its close and easy which is why I keep coming back but I haven't always had the best experience here. Today I got the shrip tacos, which came out with the tails still on the shrimp which I had to pull off, they were also super soggy and I had to ask for an extra tortilla because I couldn't pick up the one that was used. My son ordered a kids burrito which he couldn't eat because it was spicy. I tried it and it is a bit too much for a kid. Although I like spicy. The service was good today but other times it hasn't been good at all. Even was tempted not to leave a tip in the past but I can never bring myself to do that. My girlfriend and I are on a trip visiting for her birthday. We decided to get Mexican for the first night. The seating was quick, the food was absolutely delicious. Most of all our wonderful waitress, Leigh, really tied the whole thing together. Im sure we'll be back to visit and this restaurant will be a must to stop by and grab a bite. read more

My family and I went to eat here after a basketball game. We arrived at 8:40pm on a Tuesday. The sign clearly said they closed at 9:00. We were told they were closed but there was still plenty of people in the restaurant. I've worked in the food industry for several years and would never have turned customers away with 20 minutes before closing. They just lost my business for good. read more

First time here. Great Mexican spot. Came for lunch. Got the chicken soup and chicken fajitas. Both were quite good, and especially the soup. Had a depth of flavor you don't usually find in soup. Please know, if you are looking for a nice adult farm to table place on your weekend getaway, this is probably not the place for you. If you are looking for good Mexican food with great service (with kids or without) or even a nice place to stop for a margarita on a girls weekend, this place is great!
