In a town like Blue Ridge there are not a lot of restaurants that offer a good range of soups. They always have four at the Mesquite Grill and all are "fit to eat." Having been a server in the past I know what good service is and I have always had it here. read more

Not only did the service suck but so did the food. Tamales and rice- outstanding. Shredded beef taco- so soggy I couldn't pick it up. The shredded beef in the taco and enchilada tasted like Hormel prepackaged BBQ meat. As far as service-I was there at 2:30 on a Wednesday afternoon.Only 4 tables of people who were eating when I arrived. This place is amazing! My husband and I just happened to see it and thought we'd try it out. The outside appearance is a little off-putting but do not let it deter you. Once inside we were completely surprised by the appearance and the staff. We were helped immediately and Laura was an incredible waitress. She explained everything after we told her it was our first time there. The food is absolutely great, and surprisingly authentic. I was delighted to see nopalitos on the menu and they were delicious. Just went in there for lunch, 4 of us. After standing there and waiting a few minutes a server walks by and says "we'll be with you in a few minutes." So how long do they expect you to wait to give them your money???? They didn't care we were already standing waiting there. We walked out and drove to the next shopping center and are eating at Monte Alban as I type this, the food and service are a million times better here. Hand-down THE best Mexican restaurant in Blue Ridge! We've been here for beakfast, lunch and dinner. The only negative is that the breakfast potatoes are never cooked enough. We like the Olmeca dinner, a large perfectly cooked chicken breast topped with grilled veggies and a queso cheese sause. Also the Fajita Burritos are just that - fajita meat & veggies rolled into two flour tortillas topped with queso cheese sauce (they call is nacho cheese sauce, but it's just a white queso sauce). We also get the fish tacos and the Changa (chimichanga) often. Their margaritas are incredible! read more

Thought we would try the Mesquite Grill for lunch in Blue Ridge. The wait staff was incredibly friendly. The food options were interesting. Had the shredded beef with eggs with a side of rice and beans that was really good. I actually ended up putting them on the complimentary chips with a little bit of salsa to give it some more flavor and next time might order the same thing but ask them for tortillas. My husband had the combination burritos and said it was delicious. They give you complementary chips and salsa that's really good and even complimentary soup. I always use yelp when looking for a restaurant, if I'm going to pay for It I'd like to have a good experience. Went with my family to this restaurant after reviewing a few restaurants in the area. We saw this one had 4 and a half stars so we picked it. If you are like me and you're reading this so you can pick a place to eat, DON'T DO IT! It definitely isn't a 4 and a half star restaurant. normally, I have liked it here, but tonight I was blown away. not only were we charged way more than the printed menu price, but after asking for the manager, we were gifted with this.... " If you go anywhere in downtown Blue Ridge THIS is what you'd pay". Even though, the printed menu price was 30% less for a pitcher of drinks - we were charged in excess of $60 for a pitcher of margaritas. Hello? Where do you pay that? NOWHERE! And when the manager said, well the new menus have not been printed, and I argued that we saw the price and ordered based on what was presented in the menu that was given, he explained that anywhere in downtown Blue Ridge would charge this much, so I should feel okay with the price. We left feeling so angry, and unfortunately will never go back. And we are local women who run successful businesses here, raised kids here, and know damn well about this town, and who used to come here often. Is this new management? Is this a new philosophy? Because it sucks. NOWHERE would we pay that much. We each got one drink. How ridiculous. And how dare you cheat the people coming to Blue Ridge for a beautiful mountain vacation just because you think you can. This is what is wrong with the world right now. Just went and tried to get a margarita & a snack. We grabbed seats at the bar and waited for service...and waited...and waited...and waited. Nothing. No acknowledgement, nothing. 10 minutes later and a manager type person stepping behind the bar briefly and still no acknowledgement we were done! Granted you are busy but a simple "we'll be with you in a moment", something, anything other than being ignored. We live here and I'll have second thoughts on returning. read more

It took over 5 minutes before we were acknowledged at the Wait to Be Seated sign. Based on that, we decided a To-Go order may be the better option. We were told 10-15 minutes, but walked around for 25 and came back to wait another 10 minutes. Finally, we received our order and left before realizing that half of it was missing. Food was bland, undercooked. The biggest realization is that $25 could have produced a better meal from buying vegetables at PoDunk's or Ingles. That's the silver lining from the whole experience, a reminder as to why eating out is typically filled with underwhelming sorrow. read more

Welcome! We are so happy to have another wonderful restaurant option in the region and one that delivers good food and great service. We are from Colorado and used to some of the best Mexican food north of the border. The Mesquite Grill was good enough for us to plot our next order when we visit again. The service and food was aweful. Our service was beyond deplorable....must been new to the place if not waitressing altogether. Our order mysteriously didn't make it to the kitchen. A manager told us our whole meal would be comped. When our food came out, several dishes were wrong. Drinks were slow to refill as well. Then the bill came and only a portion was comped so we had to inquire about that. Ultimately the whole meal was comped but we all left feeling yucky from the yucky food! read more
