Not quite what I was hoping for when I typed "barbeque" into Yelp. It's a downhome place with lots of seating presumably feeding lots of people at busy times. Which may explain why the brisket was meh...not true attention payed to it by a pit master. I also thought I would get more than 4 slices for a "regular" sized meal at ~$13. The rolls that came with dinner were very hard and the fries seemed old... maybe because we ate very early at 5 o'clock. Okay food.I wouldn't go out of my way to visit. read more

I'm sitting here waiting on my to go order. Told 20-25 minutes over 30 minutes ago. Upon arrival I learn one meal is the "weekend special" with shrimp added. NOTHING was said about this! I then learn they dropped the ball & turned my order in late, REALLY LATE, like when arrived for pick up!!! I was charged FULL price though. Two meals, over $50!! I guess Sleepy Joe runs this show. Luckily, I've been here before & know the food to be good, hence 2 stars vs 1 star rating. NEVER should a biz screw up this big and charge full price. I'll think twice before returning. read more

I have gotten the 1 inch ribeye here several times and it does not disappoint. Amazing flavor just as you would expect from a steak cooked in Texas. I have tried a variety of different sides when I go there. First the poblano and cheese grits are so good and if you are like me and cannot take the heat you are in luck as they are not spicy just full of flavor. The vegetable skewer has a variety of peppers, onion, and mushrooms. I found it okay but a little lacking in flavor. The onion rings were good as well. read more

We were greeted and seated promptly. We both order filet mignon. It was cooked perfectly medium rare as requested. There were a good number of sides to choose from. I had a side salad and cheese poblano grits. Both were very good. My husband had a salad and vegetables on a skewer. He was very happy with his sides. The rolls and cornbread were average. DISAPPOINTING! After 4 years of raving about this place and bringing friends and family from E Ft Worth, we had a sad experience today. Burnt cornbread, cold rolls, no butter. Our 5 little ribs were very scrawny, although tender and delicious. We double checked with the server that we got the large order, we always order it to share. She said it was right. Our fries and okra were great. The tea is always good and our server was attentive, but I am sure we got the wrong ribs. I will not recommend that my friends drive that far for burnt food and skinny ribs. read more

This restaurant is hit and miss on steaks. We quit coming due to this. They normally throw cheese and bacon to make loaded cheese fries for us. We hadn't been in 3 months because the steaks were so bad, tried it again and the kitchen and manager told our waitress (who is amazing) last minute wouldn't do loaded fries! They do loaded potatoes. All the toppings are in a bowl. This would have been fine for the fries. But, instead of giving our waitress a chance to talk to us they sent her out with regular French fries. First off, the meat was delicious. However, I ordered the 1 inch ribeye, and what I got was a half inch ribeye that took up most of the plate. No complaints about the amount of meat, I couldn't finish it; but I enjoy a nice thick steak, and it irritated me that I didn't get what I ordered. Second, both my wife's and my veggies weren't cooked properly. My wife ordered asparagus, and it was undercooked. My veggie skewer (zucchini, bell pepper, mushroom) was raw. The flavor of the meat was excellent. Whatever wood they're using to cook the steaks with, stick with it because it's exactly what the meat needs. The service was great - the waitress never let our tea glasses get empty. She even made sure my dad always had a mug of hot water ready for his next cup of hot tea. Will be going back. I sure would like it if they had the option to cut thicker steaks, though. read more

We wanted to try a new place off the beaten path, but this one was a miss. The restaurant is very unique and inviting. The hostess was not so friendly, but our server, Shelbi G., was very sweet. The food was not that great. We tried the chicken fried bacon, which was terrible. The bacon should have been fried before they battered it. The side salad was ok, but nothing special. The grilled shrimp was good but very small. The brisket was very dry, and we were not a fan of the Cole slaw. The mashed potatoes were very sticky and definitely needed gravy. We go to Mesquite Pit so frequently that is somewhat embarrassing. I get worried that the staff thinks we're stalking them but they all seem cool about it so far! I always have a ribeye and add shrimp. My son has either the fried catfish or fried shrimp. They don't slack off on the kids' meals, either; they're generous and top-quality. The steak is always done perfectly. The thing that really sets MP apart is the staff. These are hometown folks who treat you like family. read more

The Mesquite Pit has a large dining area which is great because when we come at dinner time on a Friday, not a wait. Plus this is one of the few restaurants that still take actual reservations. The food is really flavorful. The BBQ beans are really good and my picky daughter eats them, so that says something good. They have large portions and you have no reason to go away hungry. The steaks are cooked to the desired request and it was not dry. The chopped brisket plate comes with a lot of brisket, so does the sliced brisket. I tried the Mesquite Grilled Salmon this last trip and yum! Salmon was not dry. Cooked all the way through and had a nice mesquite flavor. The side of fries, or okra come in large portions also. Any fish dish comes with 4 hush puppies. Service is good, not over the top but effective. Pay out is at the register so that is usually where the lines are. read more

You can gum the ribs, and the smoke ring on the brisket can bring a man to tears (see pictures). It is perfect BBQ. Long after you've eaten, the aroma of a campfire still lingers. The BBQ sauce is fantastic, but you won't see much on your plate. They are confident you don't need much, but if you want more they will certainly bring it, but you won't need it. The sides are not a side note. The cowboy beans are fantastically seasoned with everything on the shelf - practically gritty, but not overworked. The skin on the beans are still whole, not mushy, and there's just enough heat to make it interesting without overwhelming. The onion and pickled cherry pepper keep the smokey goodness fresh. This brings me to my only complaint: old onions are not good. I understand most people push these off like a garnish, but for the few that appreciate their place in the meal, fresh is best, please. read more

Seems the Weatherford locations food is more flavorful than the one in Granbury. The Salmon was perfectly cooked with excellent flavor while my friend had the brisket which I tried a piece and it is the most tender and moist piece of brisket I've ever had and the flavor was guuuud! I messed up and ordered the banana pudding not really expecting much but I was so wrong, it to was delicious and I know how to make a, from scratch, banana pudding. read more

The wait staff was great and recommend various options that where not on the expensive end. Waiter also provide information on stuff to avoid, which was nice. This is my favorite steak place in Fort Worth. Very casual atmosphere, but the food is excellent. One orders steak by thickness - even the thinnest steak is huge, probably about a pound. The steak is smoked, and has a lovely flavor. The jalapeño cheddar grits are phenomenal. Prices are extremely reasonable, and service is always prompt. The place gets crowded, but if you get there early (say 5:30), you can usually be seated immediately. Great place for a family or if you want an outstanding steak without paying $50 or more just for the steak. read more
