Sliced BBQ brisket sandwich was not seasoned nor did I taste very much smoked flavor and the BBQ sauce tasted like Kraft Bold bottled sauce. This place is a carnivores dream. All kind of smoked, grilled, fried meats ect. BEST pork chops I have ever had. I'm not a big fan if the side dishes, but the rest of the menu makes up for it. It's always packed, but I have never had to wait. I recommend Mesquite Pit over Montana's restaurant any day. read more

The meat here is FABULOUS but the sides are not-so-much. I love to get this to go and just buy a few pounds of meat but every time I eat in here, I leave disappointed. The decor is OLD and dingy, the servers are like out of "Mel's Diner" (you know the old TV series) and yet the lines can be out-the-door at times. I don't get it. My mother in law took me there last night for my birthday. I had never been there before. I ordered the steak and shrimp dinner and thought I died and went to heaven! They serve their drinks in mason jars and with the decor you get a great feel of Texas. They have a sign that tells you whether they have immediate seating without even having to go in. I have been to this location multiple times different people and have not had a bad experience yet. My wife and I love this place. The food is reasonable in price and the sweet tea is actually very good. I always get the ribeye because it is full of flavor and well priced. I always get their baked potatoes which can sometimes be inconsistent but usually good and their poblano grits which are delicious. The fried mushrooms and green tomatoes are awesome as well. My wife says the catfish is spot on. If you are looking for a good wait staff and some reasonably priced quality food with a southern feel then this is the place. read more

While traveling through Texas, us Californians wanted some authentic Texas barbecue. Authentic as in i'd be disappointed if there wasn't at least a taxidermy Texas longhorn and or buck deer. As soon as we walked up, the mesquite smell greeted us, followed by a giant taxidermy Texas longhorn. I knew I went to the right place. We were seated very promptly and with our gracious waitress, Amy, we felt right at home. With authentic cowboy relics and many taxidermy animals, the Mesquite barbecue is quite the setting. Once we ordered our food we waited no longer than 15 minutes, and my son had ordered a steak, so service here is very fast, another positive. And just wait till you sink your teeth into this authentic barbecue, atheists may be able to find God it's so good. We haven't had anything grilled we didn't like here so far. The size of the grilled pork chop seems to vary drastically at times but the flavor is always really good. The Ribeyes are delicious but a bit too fatty for me so I usually get the NY instead ...which is cooked just as good. Order your steak how you like it, this is one place that will never get it wrong...or at least very RARE if they do. I hate to end on a negative note but we wouldn't recommend anything outside of grilled meats, their BBQ plates such as brisket and so on lack flavor and I'm guessing ( no idea ) are prepared differently and poorly in comparison. Just do them and yourself a favor and order a Steak! read more

Great service. Got seated quickly and Gracy was our server. She was attentive and brought what we asked for in a timely manner. I'm a picky BBQ eater. My husband and I shared a 3 meat combo with ribs, sliced brisket, and sausage. The sausage was too done for me. The ribs and sliced brisket were melt in your mouth wonderful. We ate dinner here on a Friday night. Other than the place being so loud, we thought the overall experience was very good. We had fried pickles (excellent), and shared chicken fried steak and fried catfish. Obviously, one doesn't go here for the health benefits! The food was very good and reasonably priced. Took them almost 20 minutes to get a simple to go order ready on BBQ. Understand meat is precooked and potato salad is pre made BBQ sauce taste like its tomato sauce- sugar-vinegar stirred together Prices are ok except dessert! Dessert prices are double what it should be. read more

Recently tried this steakhouse again with a date, after avoiding them after a bad experience about 5 years ago ( 12 ounces of fat on a 14 ounce steak ). This time the steak, a 3/4" ribeye, was incredible, and cooked a perfect medium, which we ordered...Every bite seemed to roll our eyes back in our head. Salad was good, but would be better in a larger bowl, and baked potato cooked perfectly, came with a side dish of butter, sour cream, and grated cheese. Would like to have had some garden onions or chives. Think it was the best tasting steak I have ever had, or probably ever have. Definitely recommend to everyone. When you walk into the place, the smoky fragrance promises some pretty good eating. And some of it is really good. Grilled chicken is flavorful and juicy. Beef brisket, though, is very dry and not really tasty. Not sure barbecue is their specialty. Sides are okay. You'll want to avoid the the cowboy beans if you don't like a whole lot of seasoning--seems like it is very heavy on the chili powder. Salads are fresh. The banana pudding is delicious! No soggy bananas or wafers, and enough for two people to share. Service is just about right. Good tea, and the glasses are kept full. All in all, a decent place to eat, but focus on the grilled items and the desserts. read more

The food was just okay. Not terrible, just okay. Service was good, the AC worked (which can be a stretch for some old restaurants in weatherford) and it was clean inside. The hush puppies tasted great but everything else was okay. I had the chicken fried chicken, but I think Cracker Barrel makes a much better one. The wife had brisket and it was a bit dry, but was okay when you drown it in sauce (good bbq don't need sauce). If this was what I was having for dinner in my house it would be fine. But I wouldn't want to pay $12-15 a person for food that is just mediocre. read more

My wife and I just left the Mesquite Pit in Weatherford, Texas about thirty minutes ago. We were really surprised by the lady that I showed our bill to. She was rude and could care less about the issue at hand. I ordered a New York Strip medium well with a bake potato and a salad. When my order came out I ate very little of my salad, ate some of my bake potato, and then I tried my steak last and about three bites. The steak was cooked well done and very, very dry. I told the sever that was not the way I ordered it . Then I told him to take it away. He left and did not come back until he gave me the bill. I wanted to ask him about why he charged me for the steak, but he never showed up. That's when I took the bill to the lady at the front desk who could have cared less. She wanted to charge me for the bake potato and salad, which I did not eat. I told her that's ok, but the Mesquite had lost a customer. I understand accidents happen and the steak was over cooked. I don't understand someone being rude with a customer. This is the second and final time my family will go to the Mesquite Pit!! read more

My server Audrey brought out this appealing plate of smells I wish I had a vocabulary to describe. She had a wonderful attitude and radiated professionalism. Classic decor. Great knick-knacks, right down to the wildcat clutching the quail in paw. Start with the fried green tomatoes with home-made ranch dipping sauce -- they're flawless. The Rib-eye steak melted in your mouth. I stole a couple of bites of the ribeye from my mother-in-law (who we were visiting). What the heck -- I'm already in trouble with her. I had two meat platter -- sausage and ribs. They didn't oversauce the ribs, which is a particular issue for me. Perfect. Side of sauce. Great mesquite flavor on ribs and sausage. Cole Slaw was perfect. The only thing that kept me from giving out a 5 of 5 was the potato salad. It was more like mashed potatoes with mustard in them. They beat it to a consistancy of guaramole. We like most every item on the menu..BUT it is the SAUCE that ruins the BBQ..we would eat the BBQ if the SAUSE was not so tangy / vinegary and thick..we eat a lot of BBQ, that's our fun thing we do, it's the SAUCE that adds to the flavor and mesquite pit has the worst SAUCE ever!!! The ribs are the cheap cut ,those long ones..but they can smoke the meat good, the steaks are usually great..why can't they at least have another choice of SAUCE..I'm not the only one that has said this. The food was okay. The chicken was kind of bland and the garlic mashed potatoes overwhelmingly tasted like black pepper. The fried bacon was the best part of my whole meal. The biggest problem I had was the drinks. The tap water in Weatherford right now tastes like moldy lake water. I assumed the restaurant would use filtered water to make their ice and brew their tea. This was not the case. My sweet tea came out smelling like mildew and tasting awful! I asked the waitress if the water was filtered, and she assured me it was. So either she was lying or the water filters being used are not sufficient. The tap water at my mom's house, where I was staying, smelled like lake water, but her fridge filter was good enough to filter out the impurities. I'm surprised a restaurant would not have a strong enough filter to make the water taste normal. I ordered a soda with no ice in the hopes it would not have that mildew flavor. Alas, the soda tasted the same way. I'm not sure if it was just because the cups were washed with the tap water, or if there was some tap water in the soda. I'm not sure how soda fountains work to mix the syrup and soda water. Either way, big FAIL on this restaurant's part for serving such disgusting drinks. read more
