I went again today for the Grand Opening. My initial review is still all true (parking lot available, beautiful space, exciting that we have a new spot it Tustin), but I would give it 3.5 stars now that I've seen the actual opening and what it has to offer. During the soft opening I was hopeful that this food hall would have great chef-driven concepts like the marketing advertised (hence initial 5 stars), but I was a little disappointed in the options. It's hard to judge a whole place since it's so based on the current tenants occupying the food hall, but as a whole it was a little underwhelming. There's great diversity in the options but the space lacks any type of dessert (and I LOVE dessert). Most of the places looked ok but slightly over priced, which was disappointing since I expected more different or exciting options. A handful of the current tenants already have other locations (slapfish, lost bean, sandwich society), so I'm sure they're good but not super unique to this space. After walking through the market again I didn't even end up eating because nothing stood out. I would come back for the Lost Bean (in my first review) or possibly Vaka burger, but nothing truly jumps out. This is the same developer as Trade in Irvine on Michelson, so pretty similar vibes overall in terms of diversity of vendors, a bar, outdoor/indoor seating, combination of new and already established eateries. read more

But once it was made clear that it is a market food hall with different assortments of food cooked by different chefs I was ready. My daughter Teria, granddaughters Cherokee & Skye and I thought that it was just a food hall, no it also has a full size bar, outdoor dining area, bbq grill, ping pong table, large park, bean bag toss, fireplace and a park. I liked it so much that I returned the very next day. The first day I had the Chicken Tinga from Taqueria with an hibiscus drink. This dish consisted of shredded chicken, beans, cabbage, rice, potatoes and chips. So good. And I finished it all. My second time I ordered from Vaka Burger and of course I had the Vaka Burger. So juicy and tender, even the brioche bun was soft. Return trip is in order. The Mess Hall has a little of something for everyone: Vaka Burger, Anepalco Modern Mexican, The Sandwich Society, Another Kind Cafe, The Little Greek, The Lost Bean, Big Parm, SlapFish and Foul Play. We went there Tustin at the grand opening today. All new buildings are built near John Wayne airport. Very modern, contemporary look, but it seems very isolated from the town. And also it was hard to find the restroom....where is it???outside the Mess hall. Weird..... There are about 10 food vendors at the food court. The price is really high than other food court. We like the big patio area, eating, and looking at the different herbs and veggies in big planters. Relaxed at the patio....overall the price is a lot higher like the airport. read more

Well the first time I visited the staff at the pizza place jumped over the counter leaving dirty shoe prints just before serving food on that counter...today I see the wienerschnitzal staff having the bar guy bring them beer that they consumed while working...seriously what is wrong with people read more

What a beautiful new Hangout spot in the middle of the Tustin/Irvine borderline area. This place has multiple eateries housed inside one large common area. There's also a snappy little bar where you can enjoy a nice glass of wine, a tasty craft beer, or a special adult beverage cocktail. The food ranges from Slapfish to Chicken to complete dinner style dishes. Plenty of seating everywhere!! It's a very chilled out vibe. Music is playing in speakers throughout the venue and it too is also a groovy chillin'vibe. There is ping pong and wifi if you're interested in really hanging out for awhile. Nice to see the Mess Hall busy with lots of guests. I'm here at 6pm on a Tuesday and see that several of the restaurants have their counters open for business at dinner time: The Little Greek, Sai Gon Kitchen, Fonda Moderna Taqueria, Vaka Burger, Big Parm Pizza, and Slapfish, and the bar, also. Apparently The Lost Bean, Sandwich Society, Fowl Play are closed at the moment. There's plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. Lots of free parking too! read more

A good variety of foods from Japanese, Mexican, Mediterranean, pizza, etc. It's fairly pricey maybe because of the location.

Such a great variety and a neat place to meet up with friends or just hang out to eat and drink. There is plenty of seating inside or you can also sit outside and catch the sunset. We tried out a variety of places at the Mess Hall and we were not disappointed. Next time hoping to try out the pizza place and the Greek place. For sure hit up the bar, they make some killer drinks. Once a month HorrorBuzz and the Frida cinema out on a drive in style movie. Went there on a Thursday night, enjoyed that we seemed to have the place to ourselves. I started with the corn starter at the Tacqueria. Yum! Followed by a combo 5 taco plate. A fantastic variety of flavors and colorfully plated. Date Jenn had the GF fish tacos from Slapfish. Delicious sauce and beautiful presentation made this a nice dish. On the way out of pandemic, I was glad to see that these restaurants seemed to be facing oncoming patronage, although 4 of the 9 were closed at 530 when we were perusing the variety of menus. Kudos to the great bar that will soon become way busier (a good thing by Irvine standards). Also, Jenn chose a beautiful table setting at the corner of the property for us to sit at at dusk. We often frequent Mess Hall for lunch. It's an open floor plan food court with lots of really nice and different food shops around the perimeter. The high ceiling and abundance of glass brings in lots of lighting and makes it look clean, spacious, and inviting. The military themes don't work well. Reminds me of towns that cut down all the trees and name streets after them; just calling it "mess hall" doesn't impart anything military. Ever have military chow? I have, and you won't find any of it here, thank goodness. Overpriced yes, but not considering the location. read more

Ate here last night. Free 2 hour parking validation! It's an automated parking payment system where the gate arm opens automatically as you drive in or out because the cameras at the gate read your license plate. The parking payment system is online, just scan the QR code on the sign by the doors. Very quick and convenient. Self serve validation by scanning QR codes posted in the center of the eating area or at some of the vendors. Right now there isn't as many eateries as some have closed, but speaking to one of the vendors, there has been people scouting the area recently. Currently, Sushiya, Slap Fish, The Lost Bean, Little Greek, Fonda Moderna, Drink Bar are still operating. We ate tacos at Fonda Moderna which is our favorite taco spot! So good! LOTS of seating inside. And LOTS of seating outside on their patio. Table games are available for free (ask the bar). Located next to a public walking park that has free parking. Music and events happen here quite often. We love this place! read more

This is the best food court in Orange County so far out of Trade, 4th street market, union market, etc. The selection is the best out of all of them. I can actually find stuff I want to eat. Not too crowded, lots of seating. Free parking and lots of spaces. 8 food spots open. Yea it's pricey, but that's the trend now. The space is huge and they might build other stuff in the future. The Mess Hall Market certainly lived up to it's name, because this Grand Opening was MESSY. Some restaurants *cough* Slap Fish *cough* don't have buzzers and yell the names out. It's impossible for people to hear their name over the music they are playing inside. The crab roll was... meh. The tastiest part about it was the bread. The lobster taquitos were are favorite offering out of everything we tried! Perfectly fried flour tortillas filled with lobster meat and paired with a delicious spicy red sauce and a chipotle mayo. The pizza at the Big Parm was "sub-Parm", especially for the price. Their sauce sauce was good, but overall, not something to rave about. We also ordered from Fowl Play and the chicken sandwich was standard. The portion of this was the best out of all the restaurants we tried. As a whole, the prices for all the restaurants are high without offering anything special. I would skip this food hall and attend one of the many other ones you can find in Orange County. There are a couple places here where we like to get food (Taqueria, Big Parm) on occasion but dang, to charge for parking is absolutely absurd. I won't be coming back here ever again and I think I'm not the only one who feels this way as evidenced by the closed down restaurants. I thought this place was a food hall! How am I supposed to eat anything if everything is closed during dinner? What a joke! For the last several visits, I've come in right after 7 and only 2 of the 10 restaurants are open. Big Parm - cheap, mediocre pizza slices. I got a salad, wings, and meatball sandwich months ago and believe it or not, everything was messed up! How do you mess up a salad? It was late (I guess 7:30 is late) and maybe the cook was tired. I tried it again and the pizza tasted like chlorine. I know I shouldn't complain for $1 pizza, but really? Pool water? staying the heck away from this one. 1/5 stars Slapfish - probably my favorite here. Clobster is a real treat. 4/5 Fowl Play - literally ALWAYS closed. Can never try this place if they don't open up SMH 1/5 Little Greek - only had one plate here, but the rice was really dry. Everything else was ok. 3/5 Vaka burger- 2nd fav. Brie burger is delicious. Fries are good too. 4/5 Haven't tried the rest of the restaurants and looks like I won't get to since they are always lights out by 7:15-7:30 aka dinner time for me. Came for lunch during their soft opening. Everyone was pretty nice looking and a lot of the places aren't even open yet. Cafeteria style, order and pick your seat. Lots of options, I'm super happy about slap fish, which wasn't open yet when I went. I ended up getting a burger at Vaka burger. The burger was juicy and pretty flavorful. However, it was pretty small for $12 and no sides. Their fries were about $7. I got the truffle fries and they were unimpressive. But that's Irvine for ya, and it's in a corporate area where lots of people are hungry during their lunch break. :D I'll come back and try other things but it was kind of an expensive lunch for 2. (Some mac n cheese, fries, 2 burger = about $45) Oh and don't think for a second that your water is free at Vaka burger. They charge you $1... but it was a big thing of water, however, it wasn't in. Four star for a location, ambience, parking in concert! However, the food options here are limited, no dessert places, and everything is extremely overpriced! Paid $14 for a vegetarian banhmi today - a sandwich that at most other places shouldn't cost more than $6-8. I guess the way to look at it is you paid the rest for exploring the location. There are burgers, Greek, a rice bowl place, chicken sandwiches, a sad looking pizza joint, and coffee, with a bar located in the center I'm pretty disappointed in the food options. A nice looking and airy industrial looking food hall on the old Tustin air base behind the new "Flight" office complex. Parking may be an issue if it gets busy, but time will tell. At the moment, there is a burger, taco, Greek, and Vietnamese spot open, as well as a bar and a coffee shop. A fish spot and a pizza spot seem to be in the process of opening. Open just for lunch at the moment, but I suspect that the hours will expand as it gets busier. read more

Nice little food hall in Tustin that we happened to stumble upon. Clean and new with plenty of outdoor seating plus games. Located in a business complex not far from The District. Plenty of free parking on the weekend. We showed up right after it opened at 11am on a Friday and it wasn't busy yet. There are some good vendors here: Big Parm, The Lost Bean, Vaka Burger (recommend the OC Smash), and Fonda Moderna (recommend the birria taco). There's also a bar in the middle offering several tasty cocktails. The Little Greek looked good too but unfortunately wasn't open for some reason. The only thing missing at this food hall is a really great ice cream or other kind of dessert vendor. We'll definitely be back though! read more

I can't believe I got charged $9 for parking after spending $34 for two sushi rolls, $20 for a shot of tequila and another chicken parmigiana sandwich. Stopped into this location to meet a few friends for lunch. When we got there the lunch crowd seemed to be dying down and there weren't any lines at any of the vendors. I think there are about 10 food spots in total (its small) and lives up to its Mess Hall name. Its literally a big open space full of seats and food to each side. It kind of reminded me of a mall food court in a way. We all decided to try out Slapfish and I got the Lobster Roll and my friend got the Fish Taco. Parking for this location seems plenty, I parked in the lot literally right next to Mess Hall but I did notice there is a parking structure in the same lot (I am not sure if that is for the Mess Hall or for other businesses) I was a bit underwhelmed because it wasn't as big as I imagined it to be. I was thinking it was going to be like Union Market, or a smaller version of the Packing District, which it was but like I said, it reminded me of the food court in a shopping mall ;( read more

We came here w another family and ordered food from most of the restaurants. The Best was the pizza. The others were mediocre. The kids burger came out undercooked and barely worm. Since it was only $5, it wasn't worth returning it. Nice and new area but ur better off going to habit burger down the street for a hot and good burger. read more

I liked how this place has lots of food options. It looks somewhat new. There are lots of seating so you shouldn't worry about that. Inside and outside seating is open to all customers. I recommend this place to people who want to have a little bit of everything. However the one flaw is the prices of the food options. Each plate will cost you about $11-14, so be careful. Again the upside it's super clean, there's always a maintenance person going around and wiping the tables and makes sure the trash cans are too full. The restrooms are outside around the corner and omg they are super clean. Well it is new so it's expected. Even better is that there is free charging for electric cars. I did like this place, another small flaw would be is there is there no public charge ports for laptops or anything, so you cannot do much work on homework or work stuff. read more

Everything was great. The pizza was okay. We went here for Vaka Burger, but they still seem very unreliable (which is why their Whittier location closed as they were never open even when they said they were). No one was manning their booth/slot. We're over this place now due to their inconsistency as Belly Bombz in Artesia have a better Truffle burger anyway. I ended up getting a pretty good burger, but it looked like there was also chicken sandwiches, seafood rolls, a bar, and some other places that would be worth a try. It's part of a business park so it's not really walkable to other places, but has a nearby parking lot with plenty of parking on weekends. read more

My buddy suggested this place. We went on a Saturday for lunch. They are set up with all the social distancing. I would call it a high end food court. It is nice because there is a good selection of food types. One of my buddies went to the sandwich place, the other to the Mexican, and I decided to go with the hamburger at Vaca. I ordered the OG burger with side of fries. There is a full bar in the center area so we also ordered a beer. If you order food, the receipt will get you $2 off beer. They give you one of the vibrating call things. I got vibrated and picked up my food. Their packaging is pretty cool, the hamburger and fries come in mini paper bags. The burger was cook perfectly and the cheese was melted nicely. The bun was, I think, a brioche and very fresh. They make their own ketchup but it is different since it doesn't have all the chemicals like the bottled stuff. It is a little sweet. The fries were thin cut and tasty. read more
