We went at 12pm on a Sunday, which was a mistake. We waited almost an hour to be seated, after we'd been given an estimate of 25-30 minutes. After we were seated it was another 10 minutes before any one came to take a drink order, at which point we were also ready to order our food. There seemed to be plenty of servers, but I was not given the impression that they really knew what was going on. The food was pretty good, and the portions were indeed very large. I had the chicken and waffles, and the server presumptively poured hot sauce into my syrup. That's fine if it's a "thing" there, but I wasn't impressed and would have preferred it with out. (They do also put a container of plain syrup on the table) Forget fresh drinks, that didn't happen until we were basically done eating. My husband ordered the meatloaf plate and asked for a biscuit instead of a baguette. They forgot, but did bring it after we let them know. I may go back if I am dying for some diner type food. This place is always busy! So go early to get a seat. If you keep your eye out on the counter area, you may be able to find a seat (first come first serve). If you sit there, try to stay away from the food warmer, it will get pretty hot! You can expect plenty of food with whatever you order! I personally love the Crab Cake Benedict, but it is SO MUCH FOOD! The place is also a little on the pricier side, especially when compared to Waffle House or Sunrise Grille, but the menu range is quite large and you definitely get your money's worth in food. read more

This was our second visit to Metro Diner since they opened. The food was pretty good the first time we visited, but we weren't blown away so this is why we tried it again on July 15. We were seated immediately & greeted by our server, Hannah, shortly thereafter. We ordered coffee & our meals, the 12" pancake & breakfast pie. And, then our wait began-and, we waited......and, we waited.....and, we waited. It took over 30 minutes to get our order. In the meantime, at least 4 other tables that were seated 5-15 minutes after us received their food. During that 30 minutes, we never once saw Hannah at our table. We didn't receive coffee refills at this time either. Only when our food arrived, did we get coffee. Hannah was very nice, but if the kitchen is the issue, come say something. I have a feeling that the real reason people are waiting outside is because of kitchen issues/inconsistencies. Until these issues are fixed, we won't go back. read more

Absolutely phenomenal! You know the food is good when you arrive after noon and you have a 45 min wait. Will say it was worth every minute of waiting. We ordered and our food was out in less than 10 minutes. Food service is one of the fastest we've encountered. This was our first time here and we will definitely be back. Normally I would start with a run down of the atmosphere but as I read othe people's review, I would not be adding anything to the information that's already out there. I will tell you about the level of customer service and the highlights of my meal. Customer Service: Prompt, friendly, helpful, efficient! The thing that sticks out to me the most is when one of the employees thanked us on our way out, it was more than a standard thank you. She said very sincerely "Thank you, we really appreciate you coming here." WOW! It's not every day you get that type of sincerity, it made me feel like I was in a little hometown diner (great job living up to your what your company stands for). Food: I ordered the vegetarian omelet, with hash browns and a biscuit. All of it was delicious and the biscuit was perfect! Hubby ordered the chicken and waffles and it was a very generous portion. The server recommended adding 7 drops of Louisiana hot sauce to the syrup...interesting. He really enjoyed it and felt it could even use a litte more spice. If you go, which I would highly recommend, make sure you get the Pecan Pie if it's available. When I eat pie, I don't think of it as having a flavor profile that evolves in your mouth. I know that sounds weird but all I expect from a pie is good texture and yummy calories. This pie was so delicious and as I went in for another bite this buttery, spice rolled over my taste buds. My little piece of heaven and the server brought extra whip cream since we shared the slice. That is my only regret, don't share! The restaurant doesn't offer reservations and it does get packed! The grits were different than any I've ever had, they were grit cakes almost, most shrimp and grits dishes I've had have multiple small shrimp dispersed in the grits across the plate and these grits you had to cut up! Wow this place is filthy dirty from the moment you see the front greasy door We arrived had a 3 month old infant and too hot to wait outside . 2 adults and 1 infant sat down in the "to go" waiting area . The hostess was extremely rude and told them to wait outside and this area is for Togo only people to wait . I'm not sure where common sense is anymore . I'm very sure that most normal people would accept to allow an infant to wait inside . I approached the extremely rude hostess and upset how she treated this family with a baby The manager did not ask me any questions and sided with his non customer service staff . Went for breakfast. The service was great and the food came out pretty fast even though they were very busy. Chicken and waffles is delicious! Love the spicy maple syrup. The coating on the chicken is not too thick, just right and the chicken is so juicy. Friends with us had pancake and eggs and hashbrowns and they were also perfect. The service was wonderful! Our waitress Alexia was very chipper and helpful. I was really hungry and was just going to get veggies but I always try the shrimp and grits at the new places when I can. I read the reviews and most were good. I read one that said that it was bland and that was very true. The cream sauce was thick and even though there is bacon and sausage there was no taste not even salt. I was very surprised. The presentation was good except the cream started to look a little glossy by the time I got my plate. There are two large grit cakes stacked and they didn't have any flavor either. We came for dinner last night. The special was the country fried steak, served with fresh smashed red skin potatoes. It was well worth the $14.99 price. The steak comes with a skillet fresh homestyle gravy. My two negatives... they dumped fresh chopped parsley onto white gravy (WHYYYYY!?!?!?!?) When a sprig would have done nicely!!! Also the potatoes needed a pat of butter to smooth them out a skosch, and salt... totally unseasoned, which I get... you have to be considerate to folks with low salt diets.... Love the cozy feeling of this diner! Matthew was an excellent server with superb service!! He recommended the chicken and waffles and some of the sweets. Everything on the menu sounded good! Food absolutely delicious...but some other problems kept Metro Diner from getting a 5 star rating... The Good: 1. Food was wonderful and a lot of it. I had the fried chicken dinner with mashed potatoes ( which you could tell were real mashed potatoes not out of a box), gravy, slaw, and a biscuit. They make their special sweet and spicy sauce at your table. I suspect the sauce is maple syrup and hot sauce. It was surprisingly good lol. Hubby had the sausage gravy and biscuit plate. Came with home fries and 3 eggs. Huge servings and hubby said all was good. 2. Price was decent...$41 including tip. 3. Waitress was very attentive once she got to us. The Not-So-Good 1. We got there Saturday afternoon at 1pm and the place was packed. We were put on the wait list...which was suspect. We heard the host, at least 3 times, tell people checking on how close they were to being seated that he would take them to their table now. He told us the same thing when we checked on it. I guess the squeaky wheel theory applies there. 3. The place was very noisy. You couldn't really carry on a conversation it was so loud. 4. Took the waitress almost 10 minutes to get our drink order. Evidently the table next to us had a problem with getting their food so she was trying to handle them. To save time we just ordered our food at the same time. 5. Food took 20-25 minutes to get to us. 5. We were never offered the option to sit where the stools were. After 25 minutes of us waiting for a table, a couple walked in and asked to sit there. The hostess told them, oh sure, those seats are first come first serve. We were in a hurry...would have been nice to have been offered that option. If you don't mind waiting and don't want to talk...the food is wonderful and would be worth it. read more

We were greeted promptly and warmly - something I really appreciate when walking into a restaurant. Our waitress, Michele, had a very vibrant and outgoing personality! Very personable. She recommended the veggie and chicken wrap which I ended up getting. It was delicious but I could only eat half. Very big portion for the price. I got a cup of chili as my side and I was surprised at how good it was for diner chili! Very hearty, not soup-y. My boyfriend got the jumbo chicken pot pie and it was also very good. (HUGE portion) This was our first time here and we will absolutely be returning customers. They were breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day long. They're known for their chicken and waffles. Everything that came out of the kitchen area looked delicious! They have bloody Mary's made with SAKE! (Will definitely be trying next time.) But the Chicken Parmesan wasn't good at all, my chicken was burnt on the edges and they use Can Sauce, It had that can taste, the waitress did make me another order, but once again it's the same taste, I was told the reason the meat is hard is when they melt the cheese on top it gets hard and they do use can sauce, the pasta was not seasoned and it didn't have enough sauce on the pasta to cover the non taste of it, Now I have no problem with can or jar sauces but I add seasonings to it to change the flavor and when I add cheese on my chicken to melt it , my chicken is never hard. so on that note, please change the way of making that dish, read more

My husband just left your Washington Rd location. Right now I'm feeling a little upset, and my husband is just plain mad! Upon arriving the hostess wanted to seat is by the door which we both didn't want since its very busy and the chill coming when the door is open. She then took us to the back booth and said they're for 4 people. When we said it's just the 2 of us she said oh well, with an attitude. Our waiter came and couldn't have been nicer. He was so friendly, and constantly ask if we needed anything! Our food came promptly and was very good! Only complaint about that was that the coffee was not hot. We even paid the bill for 3 young med students sitting behind us. Leaving we went to the counter and ask the lady could we have a bag for our food. This was a different person with a pony tail. She was so rude that my husband ask our waiter to get one for us. This same lady came back with the bag, put it on the counter, no I contact and walked away!
