We ate at the Cortez road location and this was one of my favorite meals the entre time in the area. The hot honey chicken sand is money for sure. The kids got waffles and pancakes and they enjoyed those as well. Our service was excellent and seriously would go back there in a heartbeat if back in town. read more

I gave them 1star because not only is the service awful when I eat in, but every time I order the chicken tenders or fried chicken its burnt. I ordered take out chicken tenders today and I specifically said to make sure it's not burnt. So when I went to pick it up it's even more burnt than usual. I tried to give them more chances than they deserve, so I will not be returning to this Metro location again. When I called to let them know about my burnt tenders I spoke with Courtney not sure if she's the manager but she was very rude to me. I will be letting corporate know about this. read more

Just found the best little diner in Bradenton! Had the best chicken tenders, Mac n cheese, biggest side salad I've ever seen! Friend has chicken and waffles, awesome!! The food is SO GOOD. Their fried chicken is amazing & the prices are pretty decent. They also have really good prices on their mimosas & bloody marys. When you enter the restaurant it feels like a family atmosphere & the hosts/servers are so welcoming. We've had a few servers & they've all been great. O.K. I was hungry. And it was close. The menu looked good and I figured I was try it out. I am glad I did. The food was excellent. It smelled good walking in and I certainly was full when I left. The food was cooked and presented well. It just tasted like quality. But there was something that made it stand out like most don't. The service was exceptional. The attention to detail, timing, just being attentive to what I need was subtly executed to perfection. Its funny cause I do not even realize it until I left when I was thinking why was that so good. Been waiting for something like this to open in town - Finally - you get what you pay for and it's worth every penny here! Plenty of parking, outdoor seating, clean interior, good wait staff, can sit at counter to watch the cook staff, or booth, or table. Beer & Wine too! Stopped in for late breakfast but after looking over menu, decided on 'lunch' items instead. They serve the whole menu all day. Chose the Charleston Shrimp & Grits and The Bold City Burger. The Charleston Shrimp & Grits were awesome. The 2 huge grit cakes and cheesy and good, shrimp is not overcooked, the Andouille sausage just adds an extra yummy flavor, and the roasted red pepper is not overwhelming BUT that gravy or sauce, Oh Lord, is it ever good, creamy, and flavorful. The burger has not only bacon, but sausage too. The fried jalapeños are not overpowering but add flavor, soft bun, very good too. Now they seem to have some strange hours but when they are closed a little while in the afternoon, it's when we wouldn't really be eating anyway, so that will most likely not be a problem for anyone. After leaving a five star review, I was disappointed in the meal tonight . Service, as always, great.....but pot roast was SO SALTY I couldn't even cut it with sour cream. A couple of weeks ago we had dinner at Metro Diner and it was delicious. My friend had the meatloaf and I had the chicken fried steak dinner. It was hand breaded and deep fried to perfection. Ordered takeout due to Covid. We ordered the cheeseburger with mashed potatoes and gravy and a chicken tenders salad to split between my husband and I. The order was placed online and was ready when we arrived. The website said they offer drive up service, but if so it was not clearly marked as we didn't see it so I went in to pick it up. The first time we came was for breakfast and we were really pleased with quality, portion, and service. We just went for lunch and ordered the hot honey sandwich with fries and club sandwich with Cole slaw. Disappointed with Cole slaw(bland) and club sandwich (not toasted white bread really?!?!). Maybe I'm used to always having toasted bread with a club sandwich. We would have complained but time constraints rushed us. Make sure you ask for toasted bread if you order a club sandwich! Down home comfort food I dont give many 4 stars but this place is great. The only bad point was it was so busy that service was a bit lacking. We always judge a place by whether you have to ask for a refill. Well we waited a long time for refills. If the servers dont have time the management should be roaming around seeing how guests are doing and how they liked the food, along with a drink refill. Like I said the place was busy. Ok where to start. The food was not on fav list I for sure don't really plan on going back. My meal was dry and over cooked and really how do you go wrong with like chicken tenders. I have eaten at metro many many times. I've never had a bad meal there. Always consistently good at the very least. Most times it's a couple notches above that. Couple items I enjoy eating there: The strawberry butter they have with waffles, pancakes, toast or anything really is amazing! A must try. The iron city meatloaf is another must try. Pan seared style meatloaf with a really tasty gravy. Not your typical meat loaf! If you like fried chicken, they have an excellent fried chicken plate that comes with the waffles. This saddens me to say that Metro Diner has gone way down hill. We are pensioners (as are 90% of the customers that were in there today). We can't afford to go out for a meal due to the economy but Metro was always a special treat. To start off the 'special menu" included Chicken Fried Steak. I was excited to try it but after waiting 15 minutes between sightings of our waitress we were told 'they don't have any chicken fried steak'. So deciding on something else 15 minutes later the waitress showed up again. I ordered the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich my husband ordered the Orange Chicken Bowl. Now, granted, it was busy when we first arrived but they made the mistake of seating us right next to the kitchen. My sandwich was in the 'window" for a good 15 minutes and someone pulled it back behind the counter then put it back up with my husband's meal. The plate was hot so I am assuming it was microwaved because the meat was cremated. We also had a floor show when one employee was yelling across the counter at a kitchen staff member which appeared could become a physical altercation. No one asked how our meal was, as in the past. The floors were covered with food and liquid as were most of the tables. When we left there were at least 5 employees in the back room talking as opposed to clearing tables. We witnessed multiple guests waiting lengthy times for their food or wait staff. I need to have Faith that this is not the sign of the times. The locals they depend on will be going elsewhere. My new fav metro diner location!! Great service and all of the food was delicious! They had a hot chocolate float special so good. If it is still there get it! So yummy. I also think there corn beef hash is the best hands down! Love that I can enjoy a glass of wine with my meal also. Very affordable. read more

We came here with my parents on a weekday evening. It wasn't too busy, and we were seated immediately. My wife has celiacs disease and a few other major food allergies. We figured this place would be ok because she had eaten a carry-out burger a few days prior with no issues. We asked our server and were given a gluten-free menu. Our server, Christina admitted that she wasn't familiar enough with the menu to navigate all the allergies so she brought over the manager. She was so helpful, talking through all the options and making special arrangements with the chef to prepare the food safely for my wife. My wife had a salad with grilled shrimp that was very good. I wish I could remember the manager's name to give her recognition because she gave us such great attention and help. Everyone's food was good. I used to love eating at Metro Diner, but recently, I have been very disappointed with the food. The service is still wonderful but the food has really gone downhill. We used to go there every Friday night for fish and chip night. My husband and I LOVED the fish, French fries and coleslaw. The last couple of times that we have been there, the fish tastes super gamey and doesn't taste at all the same. The fries are still good but the coleslaw leaves a lot to be desired! We will be looking for another restaurant for our Friday night dates. read more

I will admit that I do not know every law in the state of Florida. But I thought it was pretty customary to allow service animals into eating establishments with certain caveats. But to be denied service completely, in my opinion, is just plain wrong. The service staff just did not seem to have an answer at all regarding service animals with all the proper documentation available. So I guess it was easier just to turn away potential customers. Good strategy folks. It's a shame, it looked like a pretty nice place. I will not be frequenting this location, that's for sure. read more

I will give Metro Diner a 5-star rating as always. However up until the last visit everything is always been spot-on. We asked for the fries to be extra crispy and they weren't even crispy; disappointed however the burgers were perfect and awesome. We have never had anything but fabulous food from all locations of Metro Diner. If you have not went, we strongly suggest that you go ASAP. Had never heard of Retro Diner until I was searching for a restaurant that served avocado toast. So glad we chose to try this diner. Intended to order the avocado toast but after I saw a picture of the cinnamon pecan pancakes; I began having second thoughts. Asked a gentleman and his wife sitting at the next table if they would recommend the cinnamon pancakes. He laughed and said that he had ordered them three times. They were wonderful.
