One of the best breakfasts I have had in the Charleston area HANDS DOWN. This time me and my husband had the fruity Belgian waffle and biscuits and gravy. They were both SUPERB. Honestly I can't do this place justice just with my words so you'll have to give it a try on your own-you won't regret it! Got there around six pm and not too many people were there. Ordered a western omelette and got a not too good tasting powered eggs omelette with a red sauce on top. The mushrooms inside were tasty. The toast tasted like it had been dehydrated instead of toasted. Service was marginal even though the place was at least 50% empty. This place strikes me as a place that deals with quantity not quality. Another disturbing item was the server did his best to give him cash for his tip. He said he couldn't get the register to take my card. He kept saying just give me cash for my tip and I refused. As a youngster I bussed tables in a restaurant. The only reason for tipping in cash was to bypass the bus boys in sharing of tips. Totally disappointed in the servers actions. We were in town visiting friends and saw this place on Yelp. We stopped by for breakfast and it was amazing. I had the crab cakes egg benedict and my wife had the breakfast pie. Both were amazing. If you get a chance to sit at the bar overlooking the kitchen, do it. All the chefs were amazing and top notch. We enjoyed watching their skills preparing the food as much as the meal itself. I have tried Metro Diner 2 other times before this review. We had brunch and lunch. Both times were very good. Loved the Spinach salad with blackened chicken both times. Family and friends tried the fish and chips, Holy Davoli Burger and Benedict breakfasts. All enjoyed. Now back to this visit. This was my husband's first time trying Metro. He ordered the chicken parm and I opted to try the special for the night chicken alfredo with penne. On first arrival to the table both looked appetizing. Once tasting our dishes we were both greatly disappointed. The chicken parm was good but underneath it the plate was soaked with runny sauce/water. Looks as though the kitchen doesn't drain the noodles well??? This made the crispy chicken parm so soggy it was almost like mush along with the garlic bread soaking up more liquid to be ruined. He even used three napkins to try to soak up the extra liquid. Sauce even on its own was flavorless. Now on to my Alfredo special. The Alfredo has no rich flavor and was completely soupy. Didn't stick to the noodles. The chicken didn't have any flavor either. Our waitress checked on us after letting us start our meal. I pointed out how soupy the sauces were and her response was it's been like that all day. As a waitress myself that's not the answer I would have given a customer. She did offer to replace it but there wasn't anything else I wanted and I said it would be fine. She did tell the manager who later came up with a new side of Alfredo that looked completely different from what I was served. I tried it to see if it would thicken my sauce. You can see in the pic how different the sauces are. Idk if my problem was also not letting the noodles be drained completely before plating but this was not a good experience. After the manager came over we didn't see our waitress for a good 15-20 minutes and the diner was clearing out. When she did come back she asked if we wanted a box and then dropped the ticket on the table. No offer of can I get you anything else or dessert etc. after complaining it really felt like she didn't want to wait on us anymore. The ticket brings me to another point. Waitress took our order on an iPad and looks like they have switched to everything electronic. I see the perks but first two times we came we got a hand written ticket with an electronic ticket that was itemized to show what we ordered and how much each item was. With the iPad ticket we got a total and that was it. How do I know I was charged correctly? We guesstimated what we ordered and assumed it was right but I know I've made errors on tickets that my customers have caught. It happens. All in all this was obviously my worst visit. My husband said he will not go back. I might give Metro Diner another shot but definitely not for dinner. read more

When I walked in and seen the line cook popping food in his mouth from the takeout boxes and not changing his gloves that should have been my sign to leave. But I've always heard how great Metro Diner is. Wow. Talk about disappointment. I ordered the fried chicken and potatoes. How this chicken won best chicken in Jacksonville is beyond me. It's definitely time to change the grease. The chicken came out quick but was disgusting dark brown from what looked like old grease and over cooked and was dry as a desert. The menu says it was to come with a sweet and spicy sauce well my waitress poured me a bowl of maple syrup and added hot sauce from my table. Lol not exactly what I was expecting. The floor in the restaurant was disgusting. It was like walking on an ice skating rink there was so much grease on it. When I walked from the restroom to the front door I was walking like I was 90 years old so I didn't fall. When I mentioned it to the hostess she just giggled and said she had not noticed. So in short with tip I paid $25 for a fried chicken dinner that was awful. The server was awesome but that don't make up for lousy food. read more
