My wife and I pulled into Metro Diner for breakfast and it was not busy. Honestly, we almost decided to not go as there is usually a reason an establishment is not busy. I also went in with a negative first impression due to them not being busy which is hard to overcome. Our whole experience at Metro was great. I would say it is the best breakfast we have had at Daytona. My wife loved her avocado toast and the portion size was huge. I always try to say a negative in a review for balance. The portion size being too big is the best I can come with. The pancakes my son got were very good. As The spicy chicken biscuit for myself was better than my grandma's and underpriced. The staff was very attentive. As a waiter in a past life, I am always observing the business and employees. Numerous employees greeted us and told us thank you when we left. Our waitress was spot on, nothing was missed. There was no standing around by the other employees. Everything was clean. My Wife and I were vacationing in Daytona Beach and we stumbled across a terrific restaurant. We had lunch one day and I was served succulent fried chicken with outstanding sides while my wife ordered the Chicken Tenders and she said they were fantastic. My mom has been raving about this restaurant to me for months. Finally I've had the time to come and enjoy it. When we first walked in we were greeted by the hostess and immediately seated. My mom recommended the chicken and waffles to me, which was actually their most popular dish. As we waited our waitress took our drink orders (mimosa for me of course and water for my mom). I gazed over the menu wHich had tons of options that looked delicious! The mimosa was delicious and soon aafter that arrived a was our food. The chicken filled the plate to capacity and the waffles were humongous. Our waitEr brought us over their chicken "sauce" (honey and hot sauce mix) and the waffles had a strawberry butter ! Can you say drooling?! And Let the church say "Amen"! I was a little nervous to bite into the chicken because itt looked beautiful but i was scared it wasn't going to taste good... like a catfish (referencing the TV show). Meh, service is so so and the food is average. Ordered pancakes and they never brought syrup, had to get up and track it down. Ordered bacon and it never came until we flagged down someone. The server disappeared after taking our order and showed up later with the bill. This is my third attempt and not getting any better. I ordered the eggs Benedict and for the price was disappointed. This has become a must-go spot everytime I'm in Daytona Beach. The chicken and waffles is out of this world, the serving size is huge and amazingly spectacular. I had some trouble locating this place at first because i relied on GPS..which took me to Applebees, i called the diner and got a hold of Christian..he was absolutely wonderful in taking the time to help me find it even though I know he had to be busy, many thanks to him because i almost gave up! The place itself was very welcoming, and friendly the moment i stepped inside, very clean and I didn't have to wait at all for someone to come to the table for a beverage order. My server? Christian! Yay! ( hope i spelled your name right) Awesome! i was very happy to meet him ..the food ordered was a Crabcake Eggs Benedict, hash browns and oh my goodness was that ever good! We read the reviews and we decided to treat my husband to Metro diner for his birthday. An exciting menu true with lots of Southern comfort favorites like shepherds pie, and unusual ones containing ingredients like pickled onions. Unfortunately the shepherds pie was basically a can of beef stew with potatoes put on top and maybe baked? Very runny tasteless I was extremely disappointed I love shepherds pie. read more

I'm on Keto so that needs to be taken into account when reading my review. I bet the chicken and waffles are on point. For example, the pancakes my kids ordered for dinner were AMAZING but I could only have a very small bite. My wife and I found our food to be average. She got the shrimp and grits. It was missing flavor in some ways. The consistency of the grit cake was good, the portion was on point, it needed some more seasoning. The grit cakes needed seasoning, the sauce needed seasoning as well. This was not a low country style dish that is normally very flavorful. Due to Keto I got the meatloaf. Not bad, not great. Sauteed veggies were fresh. Service was fast and friendly. read more

We loved this place! On vacation unsure what to try, so glad we went based on the many great reviews!! The meals were decent price for good portions! We went back the next day for brunch again! The yo hala on the square... aka stuffed french toast...was amazing but filling and very sweet with the additional compote.
