Metro is an AMAZING place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner! I have NEVER had an issue at ANY location I've eaten at. If I had to point one thing out, my bacon is never crispy enough when first brought to the table, but it is easily rectified and returned to the table. They have THE best tea, also. The place is usually busy no matter the time of day and sometimes could be a long wait for a table. It's a bit noisy, too, because of so many people. But... all worth it!!! read more

We had take out and I ordered the hamburger. My son had the club sandwich. It was so good. Everything about our order was perfect.

Being neighbors to this restaurant, my family & I have been going here for quite some time. However, this last visit seriously turned me off of wanting to ever return. I watched the bus boys, use the SAME brown paper towel (like the kind you get to dry your hands in the bathroom) to "clean" EVERY. SINGLE. TABLE. AND. CHAIR. from the time we sat at our table until we went to leave. Where did it go when it wasn't being used? THEIR PANTS' POCKETS. To make matters worse, they also had rags hanging out of their pockets that coulda shoulda been used but woulda been just as gross anyways considering they should all be in sanitation buckets and properly cleaning & sanitizing every area that their guests are eating off of. No lessons learned from covid.. Bewilderingly I witnessed a hostess, acknowledge & compliment how good of a job the bus boys were doing too.. I had dinner at this facility Sunday night. We sat at the table and waited and someone finally brought over menus and placemats. We ordered all food and waited and waited. I noticed the food was in the past sitting under the heat lights for over 10 minutes. They finally brought the food, but we had no silverware. Our server was nowhere to be found so I had to ask somebody else. The food itself was barely warm and again the server was nowhere to be found. By the time they came back, I just didn't want to deal with the lack of service and with the lack of the quality of the food anymore. So we all ate our food and got out of there as fast as we could. We had to ask for everything drink refills, silverware get the check. This location has had a big turn down in the quality that it used to have. They need to improve, been to some of their other locations and have never had this problem. read more

My family and I went there tonight for an early dinner, after not having eaten there forca couple of years. It was terrible. The menu was reduced to about a third of its former glory. My wife got the Shepherds Pie: it tasted like dog food. The potatoes were covered in a layer of cheap Velveeta-like "cheese". She only ate a 1/4 of it. My daughter and I got the burger. It was obviously a processed patty fresh from the Sysco freezer truck. The onion rings were obviously from a freezer bag. This used to be a great restaurant. I think since it has gone corporate, the quality of the food has suffered immeasurably. We spent $50+ dollars on a very subpar meal. We would have done better to stay at home. read more

I got my cravings fixed here last weekend!! The food is amazing as always, service was beyond expectation and the water view is super romantic and lovely. I really enjoy going to this location because I could see the st John's river from the patio and the weather is nice enough to sit outside early in the morning to enjoy the breezy, cool air. Hubby had the holy davoli burger and yes!! It was huge and he was full until the end of the day. My egg benedict was cooked to perfection and so so..delicious!! Amazing chicken and waffles. The breading is relatively flaky, with a light crisp, and the meat is soft. The texture of the thigh, in particular, is just unreal. It breaks apart like butter. While the breading doesn't seem heavily seasoned, it just works. I'm not terribly knowledgeable about chicken and waffles, but was a bit surprised by the sauce. They add Louisiana hot sauce to it, but the base is almost like a vinaigrette dressing, with.....did I read mustard somewhere? The waffles are cooked to the perfect microsecond. They have just a hint of crisp on the edges. The strawberry cream is a great pairing, and, of course, you have access to more syrup and butter than you'll ever need. 5 stars read more

I am an absolute sucker for breakfast/brunch style places and this one is no exception. I loved the outdoor setup of this location and the view of the water across the highway. The staff was very helpful and showed us to a table very quickly and very helpful throughout. I ordered the half order of chicken and waffles and it was still too much for me to eat myself. The strawberry butter they give you with it is AMAZING and the waffles were perfect. I chose the chicken tender option, but you have a choice of white meat, dark meat, or 3 tenders with the half order of chicken and waffles. The rest of my family said their food was fantastic as well, but I cannot remember exactly what they ordered. I wouldn't necessarily consider it a negative thing, but I do think their portion sizes are a bit excessive in my opinion, but I am one of those people that prefer to only order what I want to eat in one sitting rather than "get my money worth". read more

After visiting the Ortega Metro Diner a few months ago, I had to come check out their Orange Park location. During this visit I wasn't intimidated by the massive menu selections as my first experience. LOL! Intimidating??? How??? My intimidation had nothing to do with the welcoming atmosphere, the speedy wait service, the quantity nor quality of food. LOL! However, it wasn't until today's visit that I've realized, this location seems to be quite busy during lunch time. Therefore, I made my order simple, a sausage, egg, and cheese croissant. The next time I visit Metro Diner. I'll make a more daring selection of the delicious options on their menu. I spent most of my time socializing with my party during this visit. We always enjoy coming here for breakfast or brunch because of the food and the service. We always are full by the end of our meals! This location is easy to book a reservation on line, which helps bypass the long waits in front of the building. If you are lucky and able to sit outside, you'll have a great view of the river. We highly recommend the scramble bowls, coffee, and the spicy honey chicken sandwich. Crispy seasoned fries are also a must in ordering. read more

I really like metro. I've worked my way through most of the menu...according to the scales anyway! As with any good diner, breakfast is the thing. The signature breakfast item is the chicken and waffles. They do it better than anyone in town and it's comparable to the original in Los Angeles. The blend of spicy and sweet is spot on and just like Wells intended. Other breakfast items I would recommend are the hash and poached eggs. Traditional corned beef using slow cooked prime rib. The breakfast burrito is delicious and a built for a big man! The hash browns - crispy and delicious - are served on a plate large enough for a meal by itself. I'm less enthusiastic about the omlets. They look great, but the ingredients are cooked separately from the eggs and are overall lacking that deep rich flavor you would expect. Lunch favorites are the patty melts and the turkey sandwich. Metro is my daughter's favorite restaurant; so naturally we have to take my sister since she is in town. I always order something different each time since the menu is so large. This was our first time ever going for dinner and ordering dessert. My sister in law order the berry spinach salad which she said was delicious! My sister and husband both ordered pot pies that required a leftover container. My daughter loves the breakfast burger and I had fish and chips with the loaded baked potato soup as I am not a fan of cold slaw. The fish was very good as I didn't require any condiments. The portion sizes at Metro are large so you need to come hungry. My husband and I split the Key Lime pie which is made homemade... Updated 8/3/17 Tonight I had the Bold City Burger and this is a TOP 5 burger all time for me. This burger has provel cheese, caramelized onions, bacon, sausage, fried jalapeños, lettuce, tomato and garlic aioli on a brioche bun. The 1/2 lb. burger patty was perfectly cooked to medium as ordered. It was juicy, flavorful, and nicely seasoned. Trust me when I tell you that Metro should be in the running for best burger in Jax every year if they can consistently provide this quality. Here with my sister in Jacksonville trying to figure out where to go for lunch (and that is pet-friendly also). I started using my Yelp! App and found Metro Diner. Then it just hit me, I attended an Yelp Community event at Metro Diner in their new location in Coral Springs last month and I thought the food was excellent. We arrived about past noon because I found out they are usually very busy during brunch hours. In fact, inside the restaurant was still packed. Since we got our fur babies with us we asked for a table outside. During a 90 degree hot summer day we got our table in about 10 minutes, which is fine by me! I immediately recommended the dishes I have tried at the event. Since I recall the full portions of the dishes we saw at the event were huge, I suggested we order half portions and we all get to share. First things first. My wife and my sister both ordered their Bloody Mary I am not a fan of it so I didn't try but they seems to love it. The dishes we ordered were Meat Loaf, Charleston Shrimps and Grits and Fried Chicken and Waffles. Amazingly all three dished tasted the same way I remembered at the event last month and were all delicious. Meat loaf was juicy with lots of flavors, and the mash potato was creamy. My wife LOVED the shrimps and grits. The shrimps were huge and tasty, especially love the way they fried the grit cakes which were filled with cheese, roasted red peppers and sausage. Fried chicken were fried perfectly, the meat was juicy and lightly breaded. By the time we finished our meal (yes we cleaned the plates), we were all too full for desert. Otherwise we'd have order their Yo Hala on the Square, their unique and one of the kind French toasts. I imagine my wife and I go back to visit their Coral Springs location soon. read more

Not a good experience tonight. We arrived about 7:10 to get the Friday night fish fry. The place was busy and very noisy. It also really needed busing! We were sat immediately. A young waiter came up and as we knew what we wanted we ordered- two fish dinners with salads. Water with lemon with both. The waters came quickly but the lemons were very bruised. Salads showed up right behind. Before we even took the first bite the dinners were brought out instead of being appropriately staged. We were at a very small table and there wasn't enough room on the tabletop to put the dishes comfortably with the other stuff like a large condiment holder but we made do. We opted to start with the entrees which were fine if overly salty. The waiter dropped the bill off when we were a couple of bites in without comment. My wife finally caught the waiters eye and asked that the water be refilled. He did hers but not mine? We tried the salads but both decided to just leave them. We paid and left. Growing up in Jax, I have been to Metro MANY times. Overall, I have had a pretty pleasant experience. I love their wide menu options ranging from delicious pancakes, huevos rancheros, to monte cristos, and French dips. My most recent visit on Father's Day was great! We went for dinner, which they are open for on the weekends. Our waitress was extremely nice and helpful answering all of our ordering questions. I ordered the Avocado Veggie Wrap and added chicken and took out the sour cream. My favorite part of this wrap is the fried jalapeños!!! Metro's portions are always huge and I was completely stuffed by the end. I got a side of their homemade chips which were fabulous as well. My grandmother got the monte cristo, and boy was that deep fried goodness fantastic. It's definitely not for the faint of heart because it is the largest sand which I have ever seen. If you have never tried this local Jacksonville restaurant, I recommend you do immediately, any of the locations! Not to mention it was on the show Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives and Guy Fieri visited the original location in the San Marco area! read more
