The food and service are excellent. My sister and I shared a Greek omelette and pecan cinnamon French toast. Ingredients were fresh and the coffee is great. Simply stated, I am not impressed with the Metro Diner in San Marco. We were seated quickly and the waitperson took our order quickly. I was asked which dressing I wanted with my Stuffed Tomato order and replied. After being served our food, a different waitperson asked if everything was okay and I asked about my dressing. He never brought it. When the original waitperson came by, I asked about the dressing and she did bring it. This caused me to be finished with my meal a little later than my friend. The original waitperson brought the bill and emphasized there was "No hurry" with paying the bill and to take our time. A few minutes later, a different waitperson came to the table, asked me if I needed a box, and when I answered "no", immediately placed my friend's plate on top of mine and left. I had not finished my meal!! He did not ask me if I was finished eating, only if I needed a box. Really? I didn't have time to tell him that I hadn't finished. I guess he wanted us out of there. Plus the tomato was hard and tasted/felt like it had just been taken out of the fridge. Sorry, Metro...You've taken a dive. read more

One month ago my family went to eat at Metro Diner and we were so excited because of all the hype. Unfortunately, we don't eat pork and many of their menu options had pork included (grit cakes, potato soup). We ended up ordering the shrimp and grits without the pork and boy boy boy. It had milk Gravy!!! They have the unmitigated gall to call it "Charleston Shrimp & Grits" with a milk gravy? The other food (potato soup) had pork in it so we didn't eat it. We just kinda sat there and waited for my daughter to finish her chicken tenders before we could leave. The food was not okay, but the service was great until the manager came out and and asked why we weren't eating. I don't like to be rude but how do you say "the food is yucky" politely? So I said "we have different expectations" and he said "oh well, sorry we couldn't meet your expectations" and left. So overall the experience was mediocre, I just wish I hadn't been hungry. I am a breakfast SNOB, and let me tell you, this place is AMAZING. This, the original location, was originally on Diners, Dine-ins and Drives, and Guy Fieri and I have one thing in common - need more fork! My family and I went in on a Monday evening, (because breakfast for dinner is the best) at first there were just a few diners and a few staff members. Our server, Chris (maybe Christian?) was AMAZING. He was quick, attentive, and he knew his stuff! I have been to metro diner a few times in a few different locations, but Chris really made this visit for me! A manager even stopped by to ask how our meal was going, and we couldn't sing highly enough of our meal. Chris seemed very cool even though the diner was rapidly filling up and was very welcoming (even though I could tell his plate was filling as my plate was rapidly emptying). The food is SO good. Seriously. Everything. I had the San Francisco Benedict, my mom had the Bissell breakfast (which if you're looking for a little of everything is THE way to go,) it has pancakes, eggs, toast, side and meat! read more

I was here for work for two different assignments, and we made it a point to stop by metro diner. Staff is also super friendly. All the way from California and this place is one to impress. Their kitchen is bustling and they are moving some seriously amazing meals FAST!!! We had the crab and sea side benedicts. By far the most buttery delicious hollandaise sauce I have ever had. Our server was excellent. I had gone to the car to get my sweater and my boyfriend said he noticed my food at the window and our server noticed it didn't have bacon like I had wanted so she sent it back before it ever hit our table. After many years I visited the Metro Diner for breakfast and dinner. I had previously frequented the "Diner" when it was known as "Dans". I must say that the breakfast was superb, with the best coffee in town. The dinner specials were also fantastic, and I cannot emphasize how great tasting the Chicken Pot Pie and the Pot Roast was. The food is great & the service is good. For such a busy place, they try to get everything right & will correct it if the order was wrong. Giant portions, good menu selection, affordable prices. Gets a little noisy when it's packed but not a big deal because the food is still yummy. All in all a great diner. The only problem is the wait time. I've eaten at the San Marco and Mandarin locations numerous times and I would give them both a "5-star" overall rating, but recently I had the pastrami on rye sandwich at the Mandarin location and it was dry, tough and chewy. Even the bread tore apart. I would give it a 1-star or less at best. As I was the guest of a friend, I didn't want to complain about a free meal so I didn't tell anyone about it. Since then I've mentioned the sandwich to several other friends and two of them had the same opinion. Apparently it was not just a fluke. If it were up to me, I'd take it off the menu. I love Metro Diner's waffles! Every time I come in it's always busy but the wait is never long. Definitely a favorite place of mine.

Myself and 2 friends when to Metro today for lunch. Inside was full so we sat outside. The table we sat at was wet and had not been cleaned. After about 5-6 minutes someone finally came over and greeted us and said she would be back with menus. After 5-6 more minutes, I got up and went inside and went ahead and asked for our drinks. Next 2 servers came to our table at the same time which I thought was odd, cleaned the table, gave drinks and took our order. Once our food was delivered we asked for silverware. After several minutes and a server delivering silverware to another table I again went inside to ask for silverware. The manager came around and asked how our food was and when I replied with "It's alright" he asked why just alright. I then proceeded to tell him my food was cold because we didn't get silverware and I had to go inside to get some. He apologized and left. It was just horrible service, I understand being busy, but then again we had 3 different waitresses so I wouldn't of even known who to tip. Regardless when we received the check my meal was comped by the manger. I feel we shouldn't of had to ask for our table to be cleaned, or for silverware. A good waitress would of noticed that and been on top of it. I will probably not go back. read more

This is the best diner in Jacksonville. They need to be open for dinner. I was here for the weekend and we ate lunch there on Sunday and had breakfast on Monday before work. The wait staff was great, always around if you needed anything. Food came pretty fast. The portions were large, I was definitely not hungry when I left. My wife and I went there Saturday at 9:30 for breakfast. There was a long line at that time which we waited for 30 minutes. After being seated we looked over the menu and there really is nothing spectacular about what they sever just your standard greasy spoon menu. I ordered the nutty waffle and my wife ordered biscuits and gravy. My waffle was under cooked and soggy. Half way through our meal we both discovered and thick black curly hair in our food. DISCUSTING! And to add insult to injury their coffee is watery and the meal was over priced. Don't know why this place is so popular we will never go back.
