I literally came here because it was the first place that popped up when I searched "breakfast". I wanted to try something new and had a serious craving for a breakfast sandwich I had in Seattle. I came and this place was PACKED. Why do you locals keep all of the good stuff away from us transplants?!! How is it that this place has existed and I've never even heard of it, but judging from the people waiting outside, inside and in their cars for a table let's me know y'all are keeping secrets and I am upset! I was alone and thank god because I was able to snag a spot at the bar. It's a cool spot because you can kinda watch the magic happen in the kitchen. So about my sandwich from Seattle....I wanna call it...a southern benedict; biscuit, fried chicken breast, sausage gravy and over medium egg. They had all of those things, but they weren't together sadly. So screw it, I ordered all of those items a la carte. Listen. Have you ever eaten something so good that you stop and wonder if you've ever actually had anything good before that bite because it was THAT good? That was me. If the management sees this, please add this as a special or something. Everyone sitting next to me was so jealous and didn't hide their food envy. Yes, I'm sure this meal was 3000 calories, but I'm here for a good time, not a long time okay? The service was phenomenal (seriously, Brianna was so sweet) and despite how busy it was, I got my food really fast. I enjoyed my experience so much that I'm literally typing this from my car, still parked at the restaurant, as I caress my leftovers that I will demolish for lunch. Just returned from the Easter Buffet at Deerfield Country Club in Newark. This has been a family Easter tradition for a few years. However this will be our last year. For $79.95 a person, the items offered were considerably less than in years past. The food tables were spaced far apart, I am assuming to make it look like more items. In past years the seafood and dessert selections were more plentiful both in amount presented and the variety. The steamed clam shells were empty. The smoked salmon serving plate was basically empty on both trips to the buffet. Our reservations were in middle of the day so it's not as if we were the last seating of the day. The food they did have was delicious but the smaller amount of selections were very disappointing, especially when paying well over $340 for our party of four. Love this diner! I have only been for breakfast but it was sooooo good! Their Belgian waffles are the best around!! My mom got the Chicken and waffles with their Strawberry butter and was in heaven. It was hard to choose from their many options. I got the San Francisco Benedict which had avocado on it and was so tasty. I want to go back and try lunch and dinner. Their portions are large. ADDENDUM- 7/28/18 We loved this place so much that we intentionally got off 95 on our way to NJ. Brian had the corn beef hash. I had the veg omelette. We shared a short stack. Note. The place was packed to the gills. This spot is very popular but the wait was very short. We enjoyed the complimentary free coffee stationed just inside the door. In addition to the fabulous food, we really love the diversity and friendliness of the staff. Dae, the manager, is out on the floor helping the staff bus tables as well as meeting and greeting customers. Our server GiGi was so much fun and so accommodating. The neat thing is that when you pay your check, they bring a mobile device to your table and run your card. The prices for the quality of food is, well best price point i've ever seen in diner food. The corn beef for the hash is cooked seven hours. The veggies in the veg omelette are sautéed. That never happens in diners. OMG. The pancakes . . . That is all! OMG! This is the best. I had the chicken pot pie. Fresh! The best pot pie i've put in my mouth. The food is amazing. The service is impeccable. Stop here! For the best upscale 'diner' food. Metro Diner is Definitely a great place to eat or enjoy brunch. Usually crowded weekend mornings but that's due to the great service and food that attracts everyone that wakes up hungry. Afternoons and evenings it's much calmer if you don't like waiting but definitely worth the trip if your in the area. Chicken and waffles are definitely a favorite for me and the spicy syrup is great as well. We ate here on a Sunday afternoon after a softball tournament. It was very busy (as you might expect at a decent restaurant after church time (Arrived around 12:45). The only mishap was that the speaker was not working reliably and the did not come outside to find us where we were waiting. They did seat us at the next available table after we went inside to check and they apologized for missing us. Once seated service was awesome and the food was great. We had croissant French toast, cinnamon roll pancakes and chicken pot pie. All were wonderful and too much to eat. Seriously the best diner in Delaware and we've been to so many of them! Snag a seat at the counter if you can. The chefs (I know it's a diner and they are cooks, but the food is so efficient, consistent and good, they deserve the chef title) are incredible especially on a busy Saturday. What a horrible experience. Showed up at 7:30 with a part of 11. The restaurant is half full, but they decided to make us wait for two people to get up to let us sit. After nearly 30 minutes, we still weren't seated. They had no way to move tables around to get anyone seated?!? Then we ordered, and 15 minutes waiting for our food, they came over and said they were out of what two of the people at our table had ordered! Now everyone is waiting for two peoples meals again!!! Unbelievable. Then the food comes out two plates at a time. The food is good, but by the time everyone's food hit the table, mine was already cold. Chicken and waffles here are the real deal. The waffles comes with a strawberry butter which I've never heard of but once you try it, you'll love it. Waffles are super fluffy and one bite, you'll be in plush heaven. Fried chicken is flavored well and they give you 3 pieces that are breast, wing and thigh. I tried Metro Diner for the first time in November '17 and had the classic eggs, hash brown and toast for breakfast. It was delicious to say the least. I returned for the second time bringing my husband and my family along and we were able to sample so much more on the menu. The chicken and waffles were amazing (try the spicy maple syrup sauce they bring with the chicken), the croissant French toast (I'm a sucker for both so the combination was insane) and the biscuits in gravy (never tried these in the past but I don't think they can get any tastier). If you're looking for a hearty and delicious breakfast/brunch or lunch meal then you definitely need to try Metro Diner! The only negative aspect of this place is the wait time, specially during peak hours and if you are with a bigger group. But the food is definitely worth the wait! read more

The online ordering site crashed several times while trying to order. The "Eggs Benedict" section did not, in fact, have an option to order Eggs Benedict, just scrambled, over easy, etc. Ordered breakfast to go twice now. First time they forgot the blueberries in the pancakes. Second time they forgot to include the strawberry butter I paid for. To make matters worse, the "serving" of syrup was equivalent to one tablespoon. Dry pancakes are a sad thing. Not allowed to order by phone. Overall a very frustrating experience. read more

This place is great everything is made in house fresh every day and tastes great. The proprietor regularly walks around the restaurant and greets people and makes sure that everything is up to his personal high standards. They are one of the only places around that makes corned beef hash from actual fresh made corned beef made in house. Also, their real, NOT POWDERED, hollandaise sauce is outstanding and makes me crave their eggs Benedict. My entire family gets really excited anytime I say that's where we're going. Don't pass the opportunity to enjoy what Metro Diner has to offer. Great food, friendly attentive servers and reasonable prices. My first visit to Metro Diner, but it will not be my last. Resturant was clean with a family atmosphere and friendly staff. I really enjoyed the Shrimp Corn Chowder as an appetizer and loved the Herb Roasted Chicken with mashed potatoes/gravy and steamed green beans. Just like home cooking. My fiancé had the Iron City Meatloaf with the same two sides and also said it was delicious. Very good value for the money. Restrooms were clean as well. read more

Absolutely incredible. That's the TL;DR version of this review. I've eaten here more than a couple of times. Actually, with family in town for the holiday weekend (Labor Day) we did breakfast here twice. First off, the food is GREAT. In true diner fashion, every meal is available any time of day. Perfect! Portions are generous and if you leave hungry, you're doing it wrong. The specials are great too. This weekend, they had key lime stuffed waffles. KEY LIME STUFFED WAFFLES! What a great idea! Then there is the service. All ordering is done by iPad. Staff is friendly and attentive and with the tableside computerized ordering, there is no screwing up of anything. Every single order I've had (with parties as large as 12) has been correct and delicious. I was admittedly a bit skeptical when a new restaurant went in in place of the old Wawa, but man, have they blown me out of the water. Eat here. You won't be disappointed. read more

I use to enjoy going to the one in Middletown town, then I tried several others in surrounding areas and with that I understand it's not going to taste the same it's different cooks of course but overall the menu options I tried just aren't as flavorful as they once were. That staff is always inviting and they handle their business and take care of myself and my parties. Tried this diner for lunch today. Small wait for a table, long wait(one hour) for food. Server did not address lateness of food at all. When meals finally came, delivered by manager Juan, we expressed our displeasure and he was appropriately apologetic. Fries which came later than sandwich, were excellent and hot. DH had BLT which was not hot and seemed to have day old toasted bread. My meal, Cinnamon Bun Pancakes, was delicious and perfect temperature. Really mixed feelings about this experience. Juan stopped and apologized again and comped our entire meal, so problem was addressed by management. Food is great, but the real star is the management(at least whoever was on when I was there). I sat at the counter and watched the manager expo during busy times and step in to help with whatever servers needed. One server had an emergency with her child, and the manager was concerned and helped her leave ASAP. This seems like an obvious thing, but unfortunately most restaurants do not value family like this. I hope they offer benefits to their employees so the server was still paid. Good on you guys for valuing your employees and treating them like humans.
