We came to the Metro Diner for lunch. Had a great experience! They score high marks for service even though they have the "We're hiring sign up". We were greeted pleasantly upon arrival and seated quickly. Our server, Bri, came up immediately and was a complete delight! I had the daily flavored tea (peach) as unsweetened iced tea. It was marvelous. My order was the chicken croissant sandwich with a side of seasonal fruit. All was delicious. My son had the spicy honey chicken sandwich which he enjoyed with a Cesar salad on the side. He didn't like the croutons and thought the dressing was "overwhelming "(which is interesting because he does like dressing); however, he did eat most of the salad. One of the worst eggs Benedict I have ever had. Eggs came out undercooked with runny whites. Re-make had cooked whites but hard yolks. Service was great. So it's a mixed bag for me. My companion's food was very good. will probably go back and try something else. read more

This diner was just ok. It has a much smaller menu than most diners. Food was generally fine, although the hash browns were a bit bland and the poached eggs weren't properly drained. Service was excellent. Bathroom could have used a bit of attention. I liked how they include calorie counts on the menu, but some seemed suspiciously low. read more

Looking for a quick bite driving from Newark Airport to southern Delaware took us to the Metro Diner. We were promptly seated and approached by an enthusiastic waiter. When I asked what unsweetened beverages they had He suggested iced green tea- added star for that as it was delicious and not something I expected at a little diner. We both ordered cheeseburgers ( first meal in USA in a few weeks) and they were delicious- perfectly cooked, juicy and on a nice roll. My side of Coleslaw was just ok, husband had mashed potatoes he said were good. The Metro Diner was short staffed as is often the case these days- but the staff they had worked ver hard and delivered a seamless experience. Bill was around $24.00 so quite reasonable. It was 30 minutes before closing and they were still seating guests. All in all a very good experience. If in the area again we would definitely return. read more

Asked for smaller portions. Bc I do not eat alot. They give you alot on your plate.. I was willing to pay full adult price.. no issue there.. Employees are obeying food safety laws.. what I mean by. That, wearing long sleeves that hits the food on the plate.. hair nets beard nets missing.. witness 1 employee by fryer cleaning around it and on the floor.1.not wearing gloves to protect customers and employee. Little diner in town we stopped at on our way from Philly to Virginia. Food was good. I was excited to try the huevos rancheros. I thought it was more chilequiles style than huevos rancheros, but it was still good. It's not often huevos rancheros come with any meat let alone sausage and bacon, so I appreciated that. Food: I finally went to the infamous Metro Diner. I was pretty impressed with the quality of food. I ordered the cheesesteak with a side of Mac and cheese. I also got a side salad. The cheesesteak was perfectly toasted and the meet was very well seasoned. The mac & cheese was pretty much your typical diner mac & cheese. I always appreciate when sandwiches come with a pickle on the side. Extra brownie points there! Service: our waitress was so nice. She was one of the very few waitresses working that night. I saw her bouncing between all of the tables. She was doing a great job tending to all the orders. She attended to our table in a timely manner as well. Great experience! read more

Ordered take out last Sunday for brunch and it was delicious. I ordered a steak special they had that week and my boyfriend ordered the western omelette. Both were very good (I think mine was better). His came with fries that were a little bit soggy by the time we got home to eat it (oh well). I also ordered an orange juice which seemed like basic tropicana to me. As well as cheesy grits. Now let me tell you... I love grits but these were so bland and boring with shredded cheese on top I thought to my self I could have totally made this at home. Not even some salt in it? Holy cow! Now this--THIS--is one amazing diner! In town for two weeks. Had two amazing breakfasts (their crispy tortillas take on huevos rancheros is unheard of! Not sloppy and gooey and wet like most huevos, but crisp and balanced and tasty). The meatloaf is lights-out for $13.49. A massive, tasty meal with great loaf, great potatoes and a mound of perfect green beans. Bonus tip: if you wanna show, sit at the counter and watch the crew of short order cooks slam it out on a busy Saturday morning. As a former chef, these folks are pros in this arena). This is was our first time back to Metro Diner since the start of the pandemic. We arrived around 4PM. It was nicely decorated for the holidays - with lights, a tree, and garland. It was reasonably busy, but not crowded. We were seated immediately. Our waiter was fantastic. He checked on us several times and kept the drink refills coming. We ordered Cinnamon Apple Pancakes, Fried Chicken Plate, and Fried Chicken Sandwich. Pancakes were sweet and filling. The chicken sandwich was quite large and the honey mustard sauce was great. The fried chicken was deliciously crispy and juicy. My son demolished it. Green beans were fresh. Glad to see that the portions have remained large! We'll be back! read more

I have eaten here rarely before without incident but will not eat here again. The music was pop and hip hop and so loud that I put ear plugs in. For being a diner, they only offered a small breakfast menu. There were no typical menu items found at a diner. No sausage gravy or creamed chip beef. We opted for dinner. The waitress was quick to get us our drinks, gave us a few minutes to choose from the menu and disappeared from view. She was told to clean tables when there were only 3 other couples in the restaurant. After waiting a long time she showed up and apologized for the delay and explained the reason. She took our order. The food was up in normal time but my chicken parmesan was sub par. The 2 filets were the size of small salt shakers and the ends dried and over cooked. The marinara sauce was watered down spaghetti sauce and there was an extreme amount of linguini. The garlic bread had a half inch of garlic butter on it so I scraped most of it off. I ate a few of my Wife's breaded shrimp and the shrimp was good but overly greasy. I wont be back to this restaurant that's not a diner . read more

A chain diner? Say it isn't so. Many people across the USA have told me I should try the Metro Diner. Apparently, it's "where locals eat." Atmosphere: The Metro Diner was clean and modern, but it resembled a "fast food" or chain restaurant. It wasn't a big, shiny, metallic building, but it was neat and clean. The inside has plenty of seating and booths. While the Metro Diner was busy for a weekday morning, it wasn't overwhelming and we never felt like we were sitting on top of anyone. Coffee: I was pleasantly surprised by the Metro Diner coffee and it appears they even have specialty coffees like "sugar cookie."  How fun is that? Food: Compared to a typical diner, the Metro Diner menu is small. It's known for their comfort food and that is pretty much all they sere. There are a few healthier options like salads but you won't find a lot. At any diner, I expect more than 3 omelet choices, but with chain restaurants, they need to keep things more simple. I was between the avocado toast and the eggie omelet but decided to try the veggie omelet. The waitress asked if I wanted onions, mushrooms, cheese, or a bunch of other things in my hashbrowns.  I chose onions. When the meal came out, it was stuffed. I was shocked by how many eggies were stuffed in there, including asparagus, mushrooms, and onions. Both the hashbrowns and biscuit were good. I was impressed by the meal, but I do wish there were more options at the Metro Diner. Serice: Our waitress at the Metro Diner was friendly and our food came out fast. I wasn't expecting the food to come out within 10 minutes of ordering. Overall Thoughts/Would I Come Back to the Metro Diner? I liked Metro Diner and it was a good stop. read more

I purchased for the 2nd time food from metro on Ogletown-Stanton Rd in Newark De. Both times the condiments were lacking. The first time I order a order of chicken & Waffles. No Surpe. I mentioned to the gentleman behind the table, they neglected to provide Surpe the last time i ordered. He said it's in the bag. I responded it wasn't last time. The gentleman just stood there looking at me. So i said you can place the bags down and I will check. When i checked the bag the condiments in the photo is ALL we received for 3 orders. There was a women waiting behind me, i didnt want to slow her up, so i left. My goal was to stop at a store to pick up proper condiments, but i had to get back to work. I'm tired of businesses wanting our money and providing less the adequate service. I'm afraid based on the demeanor of the gentleman behind the pick up order table.
