I purchased for the 2nd time food from metro on Ogletown-Stanton Rd in Newark De. Both times the condiments were lacking. The first time I order a order of chicken & Waffles. No Surpe. I mentioned to the gentleman behind the table, they neglected to provide Surpe the last time i ordered. He said it's in the bag. I responded it wasn't last time. The gentleman just stood there looking at me. So i said you can place the bags down and I will check. When i checked the bag the condiments in the photo is ALL we received for 3 orders. There was a women waiting behind me, i didnt want to slow her up, so i left. My goal was to stop at a store to pick up proper condiments, but i had to get back to work. I'm tired of businesses wanting our money and providing less the adequate service. I'm afraid based on the demeanor of the gentleman behind the pick up order table. A long with the shooty service, low impact on customer value. Metro will no longer have my business. read more

We really like Metro Diner. Definitely a 4.5. We're still pretty new to the area, and so far, their breakfast has been the best. We first found them on Doordash one day and we enjoyed the food. The chicken was so good getting delivered that we had to go and try them for dine in. The chicken and waffles were even better eating them there, and we really enjoyed everything else. The special flavored coffees were a nice touch. Much nicer than the Bear Diner that's closer to us, we will definitely be back. read more

This is an excellent diner. It looks like an old Wawa but very well disguised. It's actually pretty. It was super busy with a 15 minuet wait at 10 on a Friday morning . There is a reason, it's really good. First I want to compliment the managers on the professionalism of the staff. The man at the door was great. Had lots of real love and enthusiasm for the restaurant. The server another young man was thorough , polite and efficient. Every aspect could not be better. Even the silverware was highly polished. The food is as good as it gets for a diner . I had the corned beef hash with poached eggs and a home made biscuit. The corned beef is real and takes 6 hours to cook. My buddy had an omelette (ham and Swiss) with the best shredded homefries ever. Crispy and huge. The portions are ginormous!! It's not far off 95 . If you are headed by it's wora stop. I don't know if it's anything to write home about, but it's solid food & decent prices. Pickup experience is a little lacking (sometimes you get sent to the pickup area & nobody wants to make eye contact with you, meanwhile your meal is bagged & waiting a few short feet away, untouched and unloved) but that's super minor if you know to expect it. Before covid I used to dine in here & service was always great, whether you were at the counter or at a table. The breakfasts here are easily my favorites on the menu, and you get a ton of food for the price. Can't really go wrong with any of the breakfast items. Desserts are great too. Lunch & dinner are fine, I don't think I've ever disliked anything I've gotten, though I can see where the shrimp & grits might be a little controversial. Perfectly standard diner, might not be as cheap as some places but it's also nicer so the prices feel reasonable. I was visiting my sister when I came across this diner here on yelp. I decided to stop in and give it a try. From the service I received to the meal that I ate--nothing but satisfied. While here I ordered the meat lovers omelette. The serving size of this omelette was definitely enough for 2 people, I could not finish it alone. Decided to stop by this place on a Tuesday before an oil change and it was the best idea. we were seated right away, around 9:30 am, and within the next 20-30 min the place was packed(on a weekday!!!). our server was really nice, made us feel at home like we were "regulars" and got us water and coffees right away. i ordered a board special and the mr got a meat lovers omelette. Visit 2: Holy cow!!! Monte cristo!!! Whole thing battered (bettered) & deep fried! Raspberry jam with it was amazing!!!!! Who thought of this!?!? Who!?!?! I don't know whether to hit them or hug them! Soooo not for the health conscious but very good. Maybe a dish for sharing? This time the mr got a mushroom bacon burger, was good nothing as crazy as mine though. Service this time was a bit slower, but it was a bit busier. We were in the area visiting someone at Christiana Hospital. When we Yelped for lunch we found Metro. So glad we did! We had a little wait to get seated, but not bad. They were very busy. The menu is full of choices that make it difficult to decide. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are always available. I had the avocado toast with a side of mac and cheese. Incredible. I'm a first-time customer and ate breakfast at the Newark location on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. I wasn't aware that I was supposed to be seated by a hostess (there was no 'wait to be seated sign' and the hostess was off doing something else) so I picked out an empty booth. Waiter Vin saw me and asked if I seated myself. He said it was no problem and brought me the best cup of hot (and I mean hot) coffee I've had in a long time. Maybe it was so good because they serve it in these hefty, white, old-timey diner mugs. I usually have to add cream and sugar but their black coffee is special. I ordered the "Biscuits & Sausage Gravy" which comes with 2 eggs and hash browns. You get a generous portion (2 soft, split biscuits covered in a delicious sausage gravy perfectly seasoned so I didn't have to add my usual salt and pepper. Fried eggs are fried eggs, and the hash browns were a little crunchier than I've had elsewhere but still no complaints. Try to get in Vin's section. I give it a thumbs up. read more

Since pandemic to today, pasta ferena is lower quality.. flour also is not the same.. leveling agents are weaker. Meat instead of 85/90% fat free has been lowered 75 to 80 % lean. Place is pretty busy which is usually a good sign of a good diner. I liked my veggie egg white omelette, which I ordered with toast and grits. I really enjoyed the grits as it was prepared as expected. The kids plates were a very generous size for the price. My only issue with this place is that we had to request refills for all our drinks, even the coffee. read more

We stopped in on a friends recommendation, so glad we did! Tables were full so we sat at the counter that over looks the open kitchen. Our waitress, Gigi, took care of us. I got the small Chicken Pot Pie - light gravy, veggies, chicken breast topped with a slightly sweet biscuit dough - nice and crusty! They have a large pot pie...the small was more than plenty, I took half home. Husband got started with a cup of chili - nice and thick with just enough spice, topped with cheese. Then came the meatloaf plate - 2 thick slices of meat loaf lightly crusted by heating on the flat top, creamy mashed, topped with gravy and veg of the day. As we sat at the counter we watched as they made all the orders, we were able to talk to the cooks. They make most everything from scratch...even their dressings. Bf and I arrived around 1:30pm on a Sunday. Despite it being quite crowded we only waited ten mins to be seated. Menu had many options for bfast lunch or dinner. It was quite hard to decide. We ordered the fruity waffles with a side of grits and the bfast pie. Everything was so good!! I can't wait to go back and try the chicken and waffles that are supposedly so popular. Came here for lunch with my friend. She always raved about this place and it was right by her house so why not try it? We waited for about 15 mins for our table (the place was pretty packed for 2pm which is always a good sign!). Since it seems like the signature item is chicken and waffles I decided to get the fried chicken dinner entree (not a sweet + savory person). Our waitress was very nice and suggested some things on the menu then made our spicy syrup for our chicken :) The entree came with two sides so I got the grilled veggies (zucchini and squash) and red skin mash potatoes and gravy. Oh my goodness when the platter came out it was so much food which is awesome for the price we paid! You get four pieces of crispy, well seasoned and juicy chicken. Yummm so good! The mash potatoes and gravy hit the spot and the veggies tasted fresh/seasoned well. I like the chicken dipped in the spicy syrup sauce but honestly the chicken by itself was pretty amazing. This is probably going to be one of the go to spots whenever I go to Delaware to visit my cousins. We're from NY & visited my cousins for a weekend & we went twice during that visit. We went on a Saturday, about 12pm and it was about a 20-25 minute wait which wasn't so bad. There were a lot of people waiting but of course, weekend brunch. Went back again for dinner Monday night and it was a lot more chill. Ordered the huevos rancheros and it was pretty good. It's super filling that I ended up having to take half home. My boyfriend ordered their chicken and waffles with their famous strawberry butter. OMG the butter is so good, I wish they had an option to have it on an order of waffles. They give so much chicken, 4 huge pieces but I ain't complaining, just more food to bring home lol. But definitely wish they gave another waffle to accommodate the huge chicken portion. Their sweet & spicy maple syrup was pretty good, a nice touch to the chicken. My cousin ordered the crab cake Benedict and it was super good, her second time ordering it. I've been wanting to cone here for awhile. I was in the are, so I decided to go check it out. It was packed but we were able to grab 2 counter sets without a wait. Service was amazing and quick. I had the chicken and waffles with strawberry butter. That strawberry butter is so good. I would definitely go back because I want to try everything on the menu. They run daily special so check out the big chalk board on the back wall. I like how the kitchen is open so you can see all your food being cooked.
