Not bad but not the best. I had chicken Alfredo with bacon and tomato. Chicken was a little dry, bacon really didn't go, Alfredo sauce resembled biscuit gravy, tomato was missing, garlic bread had little if any garlic but a lot of herb that did not go well with the dish. Mom had meatloaf. She is very picky and loved it, the mash potatoes, and squash. The waitress was not very attentive. If she had asked, we would have ordered dessert but she brought us the check and didn't bother. read more

Wow! What a disappointment. Food was bland. Tasteless. Only part decent were the waitstaff. They were all quite efficient.

I go to the one on 202. Always good. Grits taste like the kind I get down in Virginia. I highly recommend it.

I gave this place 3 stars because of a couple things. One. The wait here is uncomfortable. Tons of people jammed onto one bench and then into the indoor entrance. It was cold out and all the wait areas were full so we sat in the car. Two. I asked for four or five slices of lemon for my water. The 'assistant' manager came out and had a fit. He said my request was excessive. I have never NEVER had a restaurant have a fit over 4-5 slices of lemon. EVER. The food was fresh and brought out quickly. We did have to ask for utensils as the original hostess forgot to bring them back. But they were slammed so it's understandable. The cost wasn't bad. The experience with the quasi manager was enough to probably keep me away for a while though. Shame. One person can ruin the whole experience. Our server was very nice and attentive. read more

It pains me to write this review. Metro Diner has been one of the best diners in the state. Today the service was well below standard. I had gone with my family and ordered a shrimp and grits. I sat at the kitchen and watched them make the meal. When all of my families meal was complete they all sat at the pass. Orders kept piling up but the person responsible for the pass was getting overwhelmed. She stood there next to the manager and at one point I even stated that is our food in hopes of being able to eat and to help them out. The server at the pass looked at me and told me she had to check while the food continued to sit. After a while of staring at my food at the pass she finally handed it to my family. At this point my food was cold and the cream had congealed. I talked to Joe the manager gave him feedback about the service and he offered to redo the meal. This time as they were making it the person on the grill wiped the plate AND the food in the plate with a dirty rag that had dried egg yolk on it. He continued to do it trying to clean whatever was on the plate with this dirty rag. I got his attention over the window and said what are you doing? The manager Joe was standing near him and I said feel free to cancel the entire reorder. Joe asked me if there was anything that could be done or if he could make something else. At this point my family is done their meal and we have somewhere to be. I'm also still sick to my stomach that if I had not sat by the kitchen I would have never known about the contamination. I told the manager that I have been a true fan of Metro Diner but that I would never be coming back to this establishment. New training is definitely needed at this one. read more

This was the worst service I have have EVER had! Not only was the server horrible at the Newark one but the Caucasian red head manager was even worse! She told us to GET OUT! I am addicted to their fish and chips. The fish is always perfect. The chips are OK (although I would like steak fries better). They used to have a patty melt ("metro melt") on the menu, but it seems to have disappeared. Love their breakfasts, especially the real grits (went to college in Mississippi and I got addicted). Love this place - I'm sure it will be our new favorite! Went during the soft opening, which was really fun! All staff members were warm & welcoming. We were all asked to - if possible - order from different areas of the menu in order to assist with training. This was great, as we were all able to try & share different things. The meatloaf was home style & amazing; everyone really enjoyed their meals (there were 8 of us!). My absolute FAVORITE is the chicken pot pie. Home made and DELICIOUS!! Have had two meals here, the corned beef hash and the protein breakfast. Both were pretty good, the corned beef being the much better of the two. I'd definitely say come prepared to sit at the small lunch counter if you don't want to wait for a seat, but once you're seated service is quick. Like I said, the corned beef was good, and the protein breakfast ok--my hunch is you should stick with items made mostly from scratch, like the biscuits, whole eggs (instead of liquid scrambled eggs), and the potatoes. The chocolate cake was very good, and rich. I'll update once I've had one of their burgers or non breakfast items. The one wish I've got are the hours. They close at 8 on weekdays and 9 on Friday & Saturday. This area could really use more all night or late night options that aren't Wawa, I know this is a chain but really wish they could do something about the hours. Like I said they're not local, so I don't think they've got scrapple, and I think they've got something similar to eggs Chesapeake that they call something different. But it's a nice option for a hearty meal if you can get a seat or carry out. read more

A friend and I were there for breakfast for the first time last week. It's obviously popular as there was a bit of a wait but it was worth it. They could be a little more generous with the Hollandaise sauce on the Eggs Benedict but other than that it was delicious. Great hash browns! (They have home fries as well). Took my kids for breakfast and both wanted the chicken and waffles. Huge portions and they loved the food, especially the special sweet and spicy syrup and the strawberry butter. I had the avocado toast and it wasn't my favorite version (the avocado was mashed pretty smooth and I prefer it chunky) but decent and (heresy I know) there was a little TOO much avocado for me. Stopped in after a hockey game and was so happy with my choice! Great typical diner menu but lots of other fun options too. They have blackboard specials - I had a blackened salmon quesadilla and it was fantastic. Service is excellent, everyone was friendly and it really seems like a local gem. Having heard such wonderful things about the new diner in town, my husband and I went there for breakfast this morning. Our server Brian was very nice. However, the positive stops here. We were seated at the table behind the hostess station. Would have been an OK place to sit if it weren't for the fact that is was the "hanging out" place for servers who were not busy. Those handing out there were in the way of the servers trying to get to the other side of the diner. Annoying. My husbands breakfast (cornbeef hash and poached egg {inadequately drained}, with a biscuit) was served lukewarm at best and without the biscuit. Came to eat here for some breakfast on my way back home with my husband from ocean city Maryland. We usually go to the one located on 202 concord pike. We didn't think much of it by stopping here in hopes that everything will possibly be the same or maybe near the same ... including service. Unfortunately that was not the case. We waited literally over 30 mins for our food to be served and that was ONLY because I attempted to say something to our waitress Rachel (trying to call her attention) to ask her in regards to our order. Anyhow she then served us our order and said "sorry I forgot". Our food was warm/cool. Home fries were cold and burnt. People who were seated after us were eating and us still eating for our order. Never once did Rachel came back to refill our drinks or asked us if we needed or wanted to order anything. Sadly I will not come here again, which I live in the pike creek area and this location is more convenient for us. But food plus service sucks. I rather drive to 202 and wait for some good service and warm food. Then we had to wait another 20 mins for our check after her picking up plates knowing we were done and waiting for check. This is our family's first time here. Our two kids loved the food, and it was really smart of the staff to bring out the kids' food first. The Yo Hala French toast is delicious, and the blackened chicken tenders were spicy and juicy. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

The service was not good at all. My party and I had to wait about an hour for a table, when there were clearly open tables. The front of the house said our wait would be 10 minutes. My husband and I frequently eat at the diner. Today we ate at the counter and had Dave as our server. He is a great server and manager and always takes time to talk to his customers. He is not the only one who seems to care about his customers either. Jason always has a smile for us and checks to make sure our dining experience is a great one. During breakfast this morning, we got to watch the "kitchen show"! It was totally awesome to see Chris manage his kitchen staff. They worked together as a team and produced some nice looking dishes. This is hands-down my favorite place to take the family for breakfast. The service is always kind and helpful. The managers seem to remember out faces as returning customers which gives it a hometown vibe. I usually get the chicken and waffles but I've had other dishes to and all of the food is spectacular. I really like Metro. We've now been here 2-3 times and recently had take out. The food here is really good. First 2 times we were here it was for breakfast. I had the specialty chicken and waffles. They were delicious. The waffle was crisp outside yet tender inside. The chicken was cooked perfectly. Nothing greasy here. Next time we came I had eggs and they were good as well. Nothing special about them but just proves they aren't one dimensional. Just got a waffle special last time and loved it. The takeout we ordered was good too. I got a meatloaf platter. Just the right amount of gravy on the meatloaf and potatoes. The veggies were cooked perfectly and not overdone. This is a solid place to eat any time of day. If you're doing weekend breakfast be prepared to wait. There's always a line. But for good food in Middletown I guess you have to wait. There aren't many places to choose from of this caliber. read more

Let me tell you!! The wait is so WORTH IT!!! The first time we were in a hurry and couldn't wait so we had to leave, the second time we decided we wait it out, we waited about 40 minutes on a Sunday morning. We thought we beat the church goers but no it was still busy. I wanted a home cook breakfast and that was what I got. It was a lot of food but it was so good I couldn't stop myself.. fresh coffee, hot food. Chocolate pancakes with the strawberry butter was so good I didn't need the maple syrup. We've been back maybe two more times after our first dine in, and nothing has changed. The food is still good, the service didn't change still very nice people. Every chance we get we try to go. I waited several months and tried Metro Diner again. I only waited 5 minutes for a table for two (I still haven't returned with the kids) and our food was good. It seems that things were chaotic in the early days, but I returned because friends urged me to give them another chance. I'd definitely choose Metro over some of the other chain family restaurants in the area. I'm happy to hear that they are expanding to new locations... hopefully that means shorter lines and better service in Newark! read more

The first problem was the girl who escorted us to our table. We went on a busy Saturday morning. She literally looked at us and started walking to the table without saying a word. Not "hi", not "follow me", not "enjoy your meal", nothing! Then, they were out of a signature meal that one person in my group wanted. The wait was so long and we waited for nothing special. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros. Not good at all. I barely ate 1/4th of it. It was like someone poured a can of black beans over chips and topped it with an egg. I would never order it again. Conclusion. Not worth the wait and don't get attached to a menu item before going, they probably won't have it. And they definitely need to do more training on the greeting staff. read more
