Birthday breakfast! Came to my neighborhood Metro. Wait was only 15 mins on a Saturday. Got seated and was immediately greeted and drink orders taken. Food arrived to table 15 mins later. Super speedy! I was surprised when the Benedict was not so warm, especially since it was so quick. But I love me a Metro Benedict and other than that it was delicious. Pros: -Food always tastes the same (except it was on the cooler side this time). You know what you're going to get. -Served quickly and server was very polite and attentive. Metro Diner is our little Brunch spot when we visit our friend In Jacksonville. He has been living in Jacksonville for about 2.5 years now, and we always end our stay with a trip to Metro Diner. It's quite popular as everytime we visit it's packed and there is at least a 30-45 minute wait. Throw in Covid and you see the disaster. Anywho, we got our order to go, after telling the associate over the phone 3xs clearly, "This is not a mobile app order, but an order for pick-up".... Poor thing must have been over-worked that day.... We wanted to keep drinking and smoking Hooka while we eat (str8 up ATL style) but the food just never came....Now, we waited about 30 minutes before leaving home to grab the food, and when we got to the restaurant, we still had to wait another 45 minutes! We found that to be OFF, because total that was about 1hr and 15 minutes... We were on a tight schedule, as we were headed back to Atlanta and literally ate and got on the road. When we got home we started taking orders out the bag, and the (2) orders of Chicken and Waffles was solely Fried Chicken. It literally looked as though somebody had prepped the containers to be plated, but another associate sealed it up, and placed in the bag without comparing the receipt. We were missing a large portion of our order, and had paid for it. The food makes up for the mistake, as there's MANY options and it's delicious, but I'm starting to notice a customer service and quality trend here... Nonetheless, I still gave 4 stars but the mistakes and long waits are starting to add up! In total we spent well over $100. We had the honey chicken sandwich and the fried chicken sandwich on the first night. I had the fried chicken sandwich tossed in Buffalo sauce which had a good kick to it. Both sandwiches were more than we could eat but both tasted great. On the second trip we had the chicken pot pie and the shepherds pie. Both were piping hot when they came out. This place is decent but, can be hit or miss. Good service and decent variety of food. My boyfriend and I ordered the chicken and waffles and steak/scramble bowl to split. So glad we got the chicken and waffles because they were actually delicious. I had been reluctant to try this dish but, it's definitely the best on the menu and makes sense that's why they're famous for it. The chicken was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It had plenty of sweet topping and was served with a spicy-sweet sauce that was awesome. 10/10 would get this again. The steak scramble bowl didn't hit the mark though. So I've been coming here off and on for years and the food quality tends to shift up and down. Lately though it's massively hit or miss, for example one time the salmon is cooked to perfection and the next time it's slimy. But what convinced me to actually sit down and write a review was the 20hrs of exorcist level food poisoning that I just had to go through. As someone who's suffered with IBS most of my life I'm used to a little discomfort from food in general but dear God's when I tell you that I was curled up on the bathroom floor for hours unable to even stand I'm not joking, I was 4hrs away from going to the emergency clinic. So while I love the staff (Manager mico-manages them to hell) I can't recommend eating here anymore unless you either have a cast iron stomach or get off on projectile vomiting everything you've ever eaten in the past year. read more

I have a fascination with restaurants I've seen on my favorite food shows. If they look appealing, I make a note of them and try my best to check 'em out if I'm in their area. I learned about Metro Diner years ago from an episode of "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" and have stopped by a few times since my viewing. Metro Diner has become so successful that they've established a ton of locations throughout the South. I've only been to the ones in and around Jacksonville but my favorite so far is the diner in Orange Park. While all of the venues I've stepped foot in have had the friendliest service, Orange Park's establishment seems to have the most seasoned food in my opinion. I'm a Bayou Boy straight from Louisiana so my palate has been spoiled from years of Cajun cooking which means it takes quite a bit of flavor to satisfy me. Orange Park has done so repeatedly. If you're interested, you can Google the Triple D episode Metro Diner was on. I know the original broadcast is on the Food Network's site. If not, then simply stop by and see just why they continue to multiply like Gremlins in water. read more
