I first went to the original Metro Diner many years ago and enjoyed it. I've been skeptical since because they've expanded into a small chain. Finally decided to try the one in Pooler and was glad I did. This place really has the classic diner feel with the old fashioned service and thick coffee mugs and huge portions. Tried several things. The hash bowls are incredible, biscuits and gravy are also good and enough for 4 people, the waffle light and enjoyable. Still spent less than $60. read more

Was very appreciative and it just shows you how he and the management runs the place. Our server katelin (sp?) was great as well. It is a diner, no doubt. They have a couple of beers in bottles. Decor is diner simple no issues there. Service is a tad slow but I think that is normal for the south. Now what I cannot get past was the Men's room was flooded with toilet paper all over the floor. Was in the area picking up someone from Savannah Airport. Did some shopping nearby and needed a quick lunch to take the edge off around 12:30pm. A quick Google search led us to the Metro diner--I should have wondered why it was not crowded, even located on the outskirts of a Tanger outlet. But I was famished and at least we got seated immediately. Don't get me wrong--our server, Aaliyah, was very friendly and attentive. I ordered two eggs over medium, with sausage links, and hash-browns crispy on both sides. The hash-browns were amazing and cooked to order. I got a side of bacon instead of sausage, and the eggs were more over easy. Not sure if folks know that "medium" are cooked slightly longer so they wouldn't be runny. I was raised NOT to waste food, so although some customers might send back the bacon for sausage, I ate it anyway. I ordered a hot tea with milk, but there was no English breakfast option; only hibiscus, Earl Grey, and green tea. Seriously? Another diner in which coffee drinkers reign supreme. My friend had the BLT, which did look amazing. It appears the dish to have at Metro diner is the fried chicken and waffles with strawberry butter (I watched the patrons behind us get served) and I would have tried them if I'd been able to eat a huge meal. My first time here and I guess i picked the wrong dish. Asked the waitress about shrimp and grits, "We're known for them". Yep, i get it's not traditional NOLA but this was really bad. Grit cakes are a neat idea and they were spoiled by the gallon or so of supreme sauce/bechamel, tasteless goop that was liberally tossed. I called in a USCG team to rescue the shrimp but it was too late. They were overwhelmed by the sauce like a man trying to escape quicksand. I've heard this place is good. Although the food is good, I've now been there three times and the service was terrible each time, with the same excuse; they're having issues in the kitchen. This past time someone in our party ordered a BLT, but it came without the tomato. I ordered a breakfast with white toast and at first I was given another kind of bread, and then nothing at all. This type of service has happened each time , with a wait of more than a half hour as well. If you don't mind waiting and not getting what you ordered go and enjoy... the food is good. read more

I had not been into Metro Diner for some time, but I recently stopped in after the area snow storms and to my surprise they were fully staffed and waiting for customers to roll in. The waitress Santana was amazing and super helpful. I tried the Valentine Strawberry Shortcake pancake stack with a side of crispy tenders, along with the mimosa flight. From its humble start in a single location in Jacksonville, Florida, Metro Diner has grown into a significant culinary empire in a few short years. I have been a fan of Metro Diner for years. In fact, my first experience at Metro Diner was at the original location in Jacksonville when my daughter and I stumbled upon that location when heading back to Orlando, Florida from a trip up to my home state of New Jersey. We were both instant fans of the establishment. The Metro Diner can claim its history back to 1938, though that was when the building was built and opened as a diner. In the early 1990's, 1992 to be exact, the Metro Diner was rebranded as the Metro Diner and in 2000, the Davoli Brothers (Mark and John) purchased the Diner and their father came on board a few years later and Metro Diner began expanding throughout Jacksonville, Florida. In 2010, the Metro Diner was featured on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" and the popularity of that particular Food Network television show brought this diner its own level of popularity and with that popularity brought even more expansion. With that expansion came change. Unfortunately, one if those changes was a more streamlined menu and one of the items dropped from the menu was my favorite item at the Metro Diner. This was a pork tenderloin sandwich with bacon and lettuce. Truly a fantastic sandwich, but unfortunately, it fell to the wayside. The Metro Diner still has some fantastic options. Their burgers are pretty stellar. My daughter originally had the chicken and waffles, which is still her favorite item on the Metro Diner's menu and is still on the Metro Diner menu today. Overall, I had a great experience at this particular Metro Diner, even if I could not have that fantastic pork tenderloin sandwich. I would definitely recommend this particular Metro Diner and I give it five stars. read more

It's hard to think about Metro Diner as a "local spot" anymore. They've been franchising all over the country at breakneck speed ever since appearing on Diner's, Drive-in's, and Dives back in 2010. But when you want Chicken and Waffles with that sweet strawberry butter and sweet and spicy maple syrup, it's the only place to go. Since I was in Savannah for the weekend, I headed to the Metro Diner in the Tanger Outlet in Pooler, GA. This is a comfort food for me. The waffles are light and fluffy and the chicken came out crispy and hot. I love how the strawberry butter and spicy maple syrup work with each other and complement the chicken and the waffle. Metro Diner may be expanding, but it's good to know the quality is still the same. read more

I ordered the tangy chicken bowl, but it was surprisingly bland and didn't really live up to the "tangy" description. My daughter got the classic burger and found it way too greasy--she wished she'd gone with a breakfast option instead. We have always loved Metro Diner and don't have one close so when we travel it's always a good option. The manager was great! Very personable. Our service was ok but our server was not friendly. Also she never noticed that the previous customers at our table made a mess underneath. I had to avoid spilled coffee creamer and dirty napkins. Our food came quickly and it was just average. I had the fried chicken plate. The chicken was good and plentiful, but not freshly made as it wasn't very hot. My sides were meh - mashed potatoes and undercooked green beans with no flavor. My husband had the shepherds pie which he liked. We will not cross this chain off our list just yet as there are so many options to choose from. Gave it 3 stars because we are hopeful! read more
