My cousins were in Raleigh for a visit and Metro Diner was on the list of top 50 places to eat in the triangle; so we decided to check it out. The spot was crowded and not socially distanced at all, but I was able to find a seat in a corner while I waited. My cousins came about 20 minutes later and the time wait of 40 minutes was accurate for a Sunday at 11am. We got seated and decided on our meals. I went with their veggie omelet that came with a choice of a couple of sides. I got their grits and an English muffin. The grits were creamy, smooth, and so yummy. The omelet was just okay. I loved that it had tons of vegetables including asparagus, mushrooms, tomatoes, and peppers. To hold it all together was a nice chunky pull of cheddar cheese. My cousins really liked their food, especially their pancakes. They were super fluffy and had a nice hint of cinnamon to them that made then not need any syrup. I had a couple of bites and it just made me say "wow"! I definitely will be back for their pancakes. Service was on point as outr server was so nice and attentive despite it being so busy. I came here on a Sunday afternoon. Was told the wait would be 35 mins. We didn't receive the text that our name had been added until after 10 mins of waiting and we waited more than 35 minutes. The host was really nice and welcoming. Our server was the worst. She took our order and we didn't see her again until after the food arrived AND I asked the host to get her because she had not checked on our table. Another terrific meal at the Raleigh outlet of this regional chain. There was a 20 minute wait on this Saturday night. A text system is used to let you know when the table is ready so was were able to wait in the car. Was texted back in 23 minutes and seated promptly. About half the tables have been removed to respect social distancing. There are glass partitions between each booth. All of the available tables/booths were full, but it didn't feel like we were on top of one another. My favorite on this menu is the chicken & waffles. A half chicken is flour-dredged and fried deep golden brown. It's super crunchy with just-right spices. Meat is tender and juicy. Pair that with a freshly griddled Belgian waffle - fluffy and rich, topped with a dollop of strawberry butter plus syrup. This is heaven on a plate. Our server, Chennin, was a pleasure. Chipper and friendly, she did a great job. In a demonstration of outstanding customer service... An extra serving of chicken and waffles was accidently ordered from the kitchen. After realizing that it was not ordered at the table, Chennin boxed up the extra meal and comped it to us. The kitchen certainly could have kept it heated for the next order... But instead they decided to provide a treat. Guess it's chicken & waffles for breakfast tomorrow! Plenty of other choices in the menu... There was an issue with their internet and ordering system but the manager was fully engaged and they were providing food and service- well, everyone except our waitress. We got food delivered, one order of turkey plate and part of a Bissell ( no pancakes or bison)- we figured, it will come... wrong Waitress never came back to check on us, NEVER made eye contact and finally when she picked up empty plate we told her- never got pancakes- no response just took off. We would have liked the pancakes- we knew they had systems issues and totally understood. A good 10 minutes later- she's presenting the bill w/ a credit for pancakes- gee, would have been nice to offer option of getting them late, or maybe saying- so sorry, we are having system issues but- nothing. Sunday brunch with a couple of friends. Fortunately for me, I checked out the website, which includes an option to get on the waitlist - and for Sunday brunch that is a very good idea. My friends were from out of town and I didn't want them to experience a long wait. I was on Wake Forest Rd. so I decided to stop at Metro DIner. I arrived at 7:32am (Sunday morning). The place was less than half full. I was greeted immediately and taken to a seat. They brought me some coffee right away. It tasted like a flavored coffee - not what I was expecting but it was okay. I ordered the 3 egg Breakfast. The eggs were scrambled perfectly. The sausage links were good. The hash browns were a bit greasy. The toast was hard but didn't look toasted. I also ordered a waffle. It was light and fluffy with a great taste. The butter that came with the meal was frozen, it actually tore the toast. Coffee - 6 out of 10. Scrambled Eggs - 9 out of 10. Sausage links - 7 out of 10. Hash browns - 4 out of 10, Toast - 6 out of 10. Belgian Waffle - 9 out of 10. Service was fair. Not the best or friendliest, but not any real problems either. First of all, YES. I love this spot for breakfast and brunch. It gets very busy in the weekends and I've waited as long as an hour to get a table for very good reason. Their shrimp and grits are different than what I'm used to but very much tasty. The cinnamon roll pancakes satisfy your sweet cravings, fill you up and will increase your A1c levels if you're not careful but amazing! And MIMOSAS! Yes, who doesn't love a mimosa with brunch?? The sound was bustling for an early Sunday morning and the food was hot and arrived quickly. Ambiance and Parking is why I give this place a 5 review. Always plenty of parking and I love the casual,informal, diner feel of Metro Diner. The service is very fast and I will recommend going here either super early on Saturday/Sunday (like as soon as it opens) otherwise you're going to be waiting forever for a seat. I especially like the patio bc it was good for our 6 month old. She was still in her stroller and we were able to have her on the patio without feeling congested or worried that someone was going to run into her. As for the food, it is good greasy diner food. They took our order, gave us the food, and that was the last time we saw them. They did not check up on us to make sure drinks needed refilling and didn't bring syrup for the waffles. Finally made it back, only this time during breakfast on a Saturday (which stayed super busy). Met the new manager, who really cares about getting the food prepared right, has a great staff, and makes sure the customers are happy with their order. There's so many items on the breakfast menu! We both ordered the traditional eggs Benedict, which are made with Canadian bacon (some places just use ham) and comes with a huge order of crispy hash browns. The eggs were poached perfectly and there is a generous amount of Hollandaise sauce on them, although it was a tad too lemony for me. Those hash browns are killer and brought more than half of them home. Our waitress was excellent and made sure to keep the coffee topped off, which was very tasty too. Didn't have to wait as long because my friend was on crutches so they were very accommodating. The inside is very busy and kind of tight but nothing unbearable. When we were seated, we were greeted immediately. We ordered more mimosas and our entrees were the chicken biscuit with macaroni and the chicken and waffles. This place reminds me of a traditional NY deli. Once it was our turn our server seated us and told us about the specials. It is all about service for me and she was on top of things. She talked with my son and made sure he was happy. When the plates came out she even reminded him his plate was hot. I could have hugged her. This place used to be good but apparently they've developed a habit of serving what looks and tastes like old chicken re-dipped in old grease. If you eat chicken you know what it tastes and looks like when it's cooked in old grease or refried. This is the 2nd or 3rd time we've had this issue. The Benedict was served on English muffin with Canadian bacon and hollandaise sauce and a side of hash browns. The muffin wasn't soggy but it also wasn't crispy. It was too salty for me as the eggs were seasoned and that paired with the ham was too much saltiness. You can't go wrong with a basic croissant sandwich. The bissell came with eggs, pancakes, sausage, biscuit, and grits. Plenty of food. Everything was delightful in this combo but the grits.
