I visited the Mecca for breakfast on a short trip into Raleigh. Mecca is in the heart of downtown Raleigh and offers traditional southern breakfast items on their menu. The service was quick and you can actually see the kitchen in the back from the downstairs dining area. We thought the food was good, and the prices were fair. I wouldn't recommend this place for a larger group as the booths are small, they do offer seats at a breakfast bar that looked great if you come alone.

Wonderful breakfast! Mimosa, Bloody Mary, Meat Omelette, and Breakfast sandwich were all 'top notch.' Service was perfect -- friendly, helpful, patient, attentive. Old school interior with booths and counter service...which we appreciate so much. Kudos to the mixologist : ) and the chefs / : )

What a gem in Raleigh! Love the history of this place and that the interior totally reflects the history and wasn't just totally cleared out. When in for an early-ish breakfast on a Sunday and there were not many people there. The waitress was super friendly and the service was great. I got their french toast, but it wasn't my favorite. I think they shine with the typical diner style breakfast dishes. The eggs and corned beef hash was spot on and definitely something I'd get again. The food came out hot and fresh!

We were walking around after church looking for a breakfast spot, a lot of places are not yet open (until 12am) but Mecca was ready for us! There is seating inside and out. Some of the outside seating has umbrellas and some don't, I love the sunshine so it was perfect for us. The service is friendly and on point. The staff seem to really help each other out. Ann greeted us and helped out with more water and a to go container. DJ told me all about the mimosa options which I appreciated and Nick took our order and have some deets on the menu options. The menu has variety but not 50 options which I appreciate. I treated myself to a strawberry mimosa (there are a lot of options in addition to strawberry) which I hadn't had before. It was good! If we had more people I would have tried the mimosa flight for $30 which comes with the bottle of champagne. My favorite thing is the staff made sure you had enough water, which I always appreciate. Great team! I tried the French Toast and my hubs tried the pancakes. I love the fruit side was not 5 pieces of fruit. It was a decent serving and all v fresh. The flavors of the food were delicious, I am envious of how tall they get their pancakes. The pancakes come with four but you can tell them just to give you two or whatever. We got the 4 and took home leftovers. Mecca is always a solid food spot and we will definitely be back!

Came to The Mecca for brunch with the family as a recommendation from a local. They're a super retro breakfast spot that's been there for a LONG time and have the classic breakfast/lunch diner vibe. There's two stories of seating - with a larger more open area for large groups upstairs. I got an order of pancakes and bacon and shared the eggs and hash dish with my fiancé. Both were amazing and the portion sizes were great. My expectations were no frills and for the most part it was but was surprised to find that they offered bloody Mary's on their menu. The coffee options were your average cup of Joe but not bad considering. Pricing was also very reasonable. The service was decent considering we had a larger party - it did take a bit to get everyone their food. Overall, this was a great breakfast spot and I would definitely come back for a hearty breakfast. 8/10 recommend!

Mecca was the first restaurant I dined at when I was scouting the area before I moved to Raleigh. back then, there weren't many dining choices. I've been back since but it has been a while and the restaurant was closed for a while too. So I was excited to dine here again. The staff was friendly but my food was cold. It took forever to get our food. We ordered before it got crowded and all of those that came later were served first. They said one of the plates had to be redone so I am guessing mine was left sitting on the warmer for an hour. then not all of my order was brought out. I have great memories of Mecca but my visit was either an off day or the quality just isn't there anymore. I won't be back anytime soon.

I've lived in raleigh for 7 years before i moved out and been wanting to try it. I finally got to try it on my visit back and I'm sad I didn't come here while living here. Ambiance, food, service and prices were all great!

How long does it take a Raleigh native to visit Raleigh's historic Mecca Restaurant? Evidentally a long time, since I finally dined there! While not still owned by the original family, the new owners have wisely left the decor as is. I went for lunch and got there about 40 minutes before the close of business (2 pm). I ordered the roasted turkey open-faced sandwich with rice and gravy. It was really a good sandwich. These were not thinly shaved pieces of turkey, but a nice thickness for the sandwich. The entire staff was busy serving customers and prepping for the end of the day. I am pleased that I have finally dined there and hope to try it again sometime.

I decided to check this spot out after finding it on yelp! This is a cool downtown diner with a great wait staff. Also, the price is right! So here are the deets: Atmosphere: Cute and cozy, and don't forget to checkout the upstairs! I loved the playlist! Staff: Everyone was extra friendly and they greet you as soon as you walk through the door! They make the experience worthwhile Coffee: Nice and strong Beverage: I recommend trying the Pineapple Lavender Mojito! Delicious! Food: It's just ok. I tried the Shrimp and Grits. Nice size portion and overall lacked flavor and were a little watery. However, the corn beef hash was bussin! I would definitely go back for the corn beef and pair it with eggs.

I have been to Postino many times before, but this was my first time at the Raleigh location. While it's been 4 years since I've had Postino and the menu has changed a little, the bruschetta board is still a permanent fixture. We ordered a bruschetta board for an appetizer and I ordered the half panini & half salad for my entree. The bruschetta board is a must order because you can get 4 different kinds. The top tier choice is the salami pesto one. It's my absolute favorite. For my panini, I got the caprese one on ciabatta bread and the half of the mixed greens salad. The salad was delicious. This was a ton of food and felt very satisfying. I always love the vibe of Postino's, but this location was way too dark with only a small candle at the table. Service started off good and we were able to order our food without a problem. However, our server was done with his shift right after we ordered so we got a new server. Our new server had no idea we already ordered and was a little behind coming to our table for water refills. Despite that, we were in and out of the restaurant within 45 minutes. Postino is surrounded by other shops and restaurants, so they had a ton of parking available outside the restaurant. Highly recommend this place if you want good food!

Our server knew the menu inside out and guided us through it with confidence. Every recommendation landed. It also felt like one of those menus where it would be hard to order poorly. The Food The menu leans comfort food with a modern edge, and it's done really well across the board. We started with a Caesar salad with dill pickle dressing, which sounds like it shouldn't work but absolutely does. Bright, fresh, and just different enough to be interesting without trying too hard. The beet salad was also excellent, clean flavors and well balanced. Then came the pimento cheese with fried crackers. This might have been the sleeper hit. The crackers are dangerously good. Simple idea, executed perfectly, and hard to stop eating. For mains, the fried chicken was solid but didn't stand out the same way the starters did. The short rib pot pie, on the other hand, was exactly what you want from a dish like that. Rich, flaky, and deeply comforting. We opted for a reservation at the bar, and we enjoyed excellent service from Brittany and Kylie. Our starter of roasted beets had an incredible blend of buttermilk blue cheese with white balsamic thyme, pickled pumpkin, and Marcona almonds. So yummy. Then my husband and I shared the Ricotta Gnocchi that we agree is the BEST gnocchi we have ever had the privilege of eating. So light in spite of a duck bolognese being the sauce. Fried rosemary sparked my home chef mind for future meals! We also shared the Brussels sprout upon Brittany's recommendation. One of the most unique preparations on Brussels sprouts ever with oyster mushrooms and a sherry cream sauce. We typically pass on dessert, but the description of their Pear Tart Tatin coupled with Kylie's verbal description hooked us and we were thrilled to enjoy every bite of the hazelnut praline ice cream that is part of this beautiful dessert.

The Crispy Frog Legs were equally impressive--perfectly fried, wonderfully seasoned with tom yum spice and vadouvan, and paired with a Vietnamese mayo that tied everything together beautifully. The restaurant is beautiful, cozy, and comfortable, and the hosts and servers have been excellent every time. We made reservations once through OpenTable and once by phone -- both were easy, and reservations are probably a good idea since they stay busy. The food has been great both times. On our first visit, my husband and I shared the ribeye and loved the flavor. Their Caesar salad is also surprisingly unique and delicious with broccolini instead of a traditional Caesar style. I also really appreciated being able to order a single Rockefeller oyster since most places require a half dozen minimum. The second time we visited for an early Mother's Day dinner with my son and shared the off-menu tomahawk, which was excellent as well. The only consistent issue we've had has been steak temperature. We usually order medium, but their interpretation of medium has come out significantly more rare than expected. The first time, we had to send the steak back, and they asked us to identify only the undercooked portions to recook separately, which was a bit awkward and something we hadn't experienced before at a steakhouse. The second time, we tried being more specific and even requested an approximate temperature around 140°, but the steak came out closer to medium-well. That said, the flavors, atmosphere, and service have been so enjoyable that we'll absolutely keep coming back. We're just hoping we can eventually land on the perfect medium steak on a future visit.

Parking can be a bit challenging as you'll either need to find street parking or in a open lot near by. The restaurant itself is located in a historic building that once was a funeral home and also was also a tax practice in a different chapter. The restaurant feels very upscale but there isn't a strict dress code. The kitchen is open as well if yo prefer to sit along the kitchen and watch the chefs cook. When you order you'll have to place everything at the same time but they'll pace it out to your table. For drinks, I ordered the In Gold Blood (Bourbon, amaro, Fino sherry, banana, golden raisin) and the head in the clouds (Vodka, Falernum, strawberry, pistachio). Both drinks were excellent and extremely easy to drink. You'll definitely want to start with the sourdough bread, NC Oysters (Roasted NC oysters, chili butter, preserved lemon gremolata), and fried NC shrimp (Fried NC shrimp, buried garlic aioli, pickled green tomatoes). All of the appetizers were excellent in their own way. The bread and butter just complemented each other so well, the oysters were well balanced and almost seared where they weren't chargrilled but partially still raw, and the fried nc shrimp has a nice contrast of flavor with the pickled green tomatoes and fried shrimp. For the entree we split the Prime-aged Delmonico (ribeye; and was served in a red wine jus, and topped with sea salt and peppercorn). The steak fell apart as you bit into it. For sides, we ordered the crispy potatoes (Crispy potatoes, Italian chili crisp, piquillo peppers) and Brussel sprouts (Embered Brussels sprouts, apples, lardon vinaigrette, almonds). The steak and potatoes were definitely my favorite. The Brussel sprouts were good but a bit on the salad side where they were still a little hard. For dessert, we ordered the cheesecake (Basque cheesecake, strawberry compote, olive oil shortbread) and the Sticky Toffee Pudding (Sticky toffee pudding, embered vanilla ice cream, benne seed brittle). The sticky toffee pudding was so warm and was excellent. The cheesecake also had a nice balance of flavor and the strawberry compote combination worked perfectly. I can't believe this place had to close and the only reason was pure greed from the landlord. I've…read morebeen going here since 2017 but recently when they switched to gluten-free fried chicken we started going more because my girlfriend has celiac. On Wednesday's they were doing all gluten-free menu and it was amazing...no crazy unreasonable upcharges, just honest menu pricing and great food. As of this review they are the #2 most reviewed place in Raleigh only behind the Pit. When we went last week for a farewell dinner it took us 3 weeks to get in. We got turned away 2 other times. The place was always packed and busy yet cozy and calm with great service. Hopefully they relocate or put some of the items from the menu at Pooles. Fuquay could use a nice place like this and it would be way cheaper than Raleigh! Best of luck to the staff in the future as they all look for work.

I went back to Beasley's Chicken & Honey one last time as they close January 25th. Even on a cold,…read morerainy morning, there was a line outside before opening. I understand as if you aren't seated when they open, you can expect a 90-minute to two-hour wait. I was hoping to get the Chicken Pot Pie this time and thought my prior visit was just off. I was thrilled that most of the menu was available. They were just out of the banana pudding. So I got to try the pecan wings I read about with the white sauce. It was so good. Then I got the chicken pot pie and biscuits. The pot pie had old biscuits for the topping, but the creamy mixture with large chunks of chicken was delicious. My biscuits came with honey and were served warm. I left with a slice of the chocolate-caramel-coconut cake, a side salad without onions, and a fried boneless thigh. The salad was made correctly, and the dressing was included. The salad was full of veggies, and the cake was rich and moist. Service was friendly and as soon as I finished my iced tea, another appeared. My wings were brought out first and it was a while for the rest of the meal as the restaurant was full. But they didn't rush me at all. I actually liked the space between the dishes, as I might not have been able to eat it all otherwise. I couldn't finish both biscuits and was even provided a container for the honey. I am going to miss Beasley's, but I'm glad I got a positive experience to remember the restaurant.

This downtown bar and restaurant…read morefeels less like a room and more like a warm afternoon--light spills through oversized windows, stretching across honeyed wood floors and catching on glints of brass and gold like little sparks of celebration. The patio blurs the boundary between inside and out, inviting breezes, laughter, and the occasional curious passerby to join the scene. Inside, it's a playful clash of textures and tones--lush greenery tumbling from shelves, vibrant colors dancing against natural wood, and polished metals winking from every corner. It's the kind of place where a cocktail feels brighter, conversations linger longer, and even the sunlight seems to stay for just one more round. From the moment you step in, the welcome feels less like service and more like being let in on a good secret. The staff greet you with easy smiles and a kind of genuine curiosity--like they're actually glad you chose this spot, today. There's no script, no stiffness--just a natural warmth that settles in as quickly as the sunlight. Behind the bar, the bartenders move with quiet confidence and a touch of showmanship. They know their craft, but they don't flaunt it--they share it. Ask for a classic, and it arrives perfectly balanced; ask for something new, and they'll read your mood like a seasoned mind-reader. The deviled eggs arrive perfectly plump, sunshine-yellow centers whipped into a silky, indulgent cloud and topped generously with the red peppers that bring just the right whisper of fresh garden drama, they're rich without being heavy, playful without trying too hard--the kind of bite that makes you pause mid-conversation, raise an eyebrow, and make you want to slowly work through the next one. They only come in odd numbers, sharing isn't caring on these. The BBQ hot honey pork ribs show up like they own the place--sticky, glistening, and just a little bit dangerous. The meat barely clings to the bone, surrendering at the slightest nudge, impossibly tender yet somehow still juicy, with those caramelized, crispy edges that feel like the best kind of rebellion. Sweet heat from the honey lingers just long enough to keep you coming back, fingers unapologetically messy and completely worth it. And then there's the mac & cheese--rich, velvety, and indulgent in a way that feels almost mischievous. Each spoonful stretches and melts like it's putting on a show, wrapping you in buttery comfort while quietly stealing the spotlight. Together, it's a plate that doesn't ask for your attention--it demands it, and you'll be more than happy to oblige. Cheers!
