We flew into Sarasota and needed to get lunch. I searched Yelp and found this place just off our route. We really enjoyed our lunch there! My wife got the BLT and I got their chicken sandwich, one with fries, and the other with onion rings. Everything was delicious! It was very busy, but the food came out quickly. The good: With a party of two, we were lucky to have been seated right away. Our sever Garrett was great and attentive. The food was very good. The bad: the steak and scramble bowl did not come with roasted tomatoes as advertised. We also asked for the steak to be med-rare, and it was med-well. The fried chicken eggs benedict was also very good. However, the bacon was not crispy and borderline under cooked. It was good enough that we will certainly come back again. read more

I used to be a fan of this restaurant. But not anymore. The past three visits have left a lot to be desired. Visit #1- breakfast... specifically ask for softened butter for pancakes/waffles. Brought me rock hard frozen butter twice. Im sorry but i dont want to try and spread "crumbles" on food and shred my food so it looks like its been run over by a lawn mower! Is some softer, spreadable, butter to much to ask for? Visit #2 - last night. Hey its fish fry friday! Lets try metro again. Ugh. Wrong choice! Start with specifically asked to NOT have certain waitress...guess what?? Got her anyways. Older lady. Seemed like she could not leave us alone for 30 seconds and right in my face! Fish was fried to point it snelled burned, and three other tables who were seated AFTER us were served first! (They ordered same dinners and after we had ordered) and the loaded potato soup did NOT taste ANYTHING potato related! It looked and tasted like brown toilet water. Needless to say i did not eat it. Visit #3 - this morning, next day. Should've gone to IHOP!!! Nope went to metro for LAST chance and redemption!!!! Failed again. Waitress, young blonde, was horrible. Didn't bring hash browns with western omelet. Omelet was cold, hash browns were cold. So hey i got two pieces of toast!!! Yay! NOT!!! Wont be back. Not until a LOT changes!! And i used to rave about how great this specific place was...will be taking breakfast at home or ihop from now on! read more

I was visiting Florida to see family and they took me here for lunch. They had said it's "just a regular diner" so that's what I had expected. They have a huge menu as diners do (which is why we love them, right?). So many options. They had a handful of specials on their board that looked great as well. After debating on a few different options, I went with the Monte Cristo sandwich because I hadn't had one in awhile. This sandwich came out and WOW. First of all, the plate is HUGE and it was filled with that sandwich! There were 4 massive pieces along with the onion rings I ordered with it. This thing could easily serve 2-3 people. It was amazing. The crunch of the bread, all the meat and cheese, and paired with that sweet sauce. Oh my goodness. You have to go try it. It was so great. My family's orders looked amazing and were huge portions too. I really enjoyed this place! read more

Chicken and Waffles were delicious. My absolute favorite thing about dining here is that I can order half-size orders of just about everything on the menu. This is great because it gives me the opportunity to try more items. The servers here now are some of the same staff that worked at the other now-closed Sarasota location. This is a huge asset for this diner. These servers are well-trained and experienced with the menu, with the ipads, and with the capacity the kitchen can handle. I have come to count on their input on what's the best selling item on the daily specials, or if the kitchen has time to customize a dish for me, or if the kitchen is slow, I know to be ready to wait. Trained friendly service is key to any restaurant experience and this location is doing it right! The management at this location is always visible and friendly. They make a point to communicate with their staff and with their customers. The pitch in and help, like on this New Year's day, the kitchen was short help, and there were both managers cooking up a storm in the kitchen, while the servers buzzed around helping each other get the job done. I must say I'm a generous reviewer. Went to this diner with high hopes, as I used to frequent the one in west palm beach. Basically everything was wrong. After we got our coffees, asked for silverware, to stir, the young lady said ok, then proceeded to clean tables. Then asked a young man who did tables, and he said we would get with our meal. I said I need to stir my coffee, no response. Finally got silverware from original waitress, but coffee cold at that point. The western omelettes way too much salsa, so were soupy. And lukewarm. Biscuit and side order pancakes also lukewarm. Grits were pretty good. After meal left my plate for pickup- it sat at edge of table for at least ten minutes, while my card was taken, it was ignored. Really high hopes, I was a fan of other location but this was bad all around:-( read more

We love this place! The atmosphere is wonderful. There is inside and patio seating . We love the patio. The menu has a larger variety of classic Americana choices as well as a full bar. We have tried multiple items from the menu and everything was delicious! The staff has always been friendly and attentive. The food comes from the kitchen hot and as ordered (i.e. they process special requests very well.) The prices are "FL average" you definitely get your money's worth with portion size. It is a popular place, so be prepared a short wait (usually 10-15 mins) some weekdays during popular brunch/lunch times and perhaps a little longer during peak weekend hours. The fact that this establishment has a four-star review is a travesty. The lights are dim to cover up the poorly maintained building. The air-conditioning vents were dripping condensation on the tables, including me- at least they let me move. Sticky tables, sticky floors, nasty bathroom, etc. $15 for a poorly assembled Rueben sandwich and a few fries???!!! (They don't tell you the price of the specials, apparently for a reason) and don't bother waiting FIFTEEN MINUTES on the apple cobbler- it's a handful of sliced apples thrown in a bowl with WAY too much caramel sauce thrown on top and heated in the oven- where's the crumble topping??? It did come with a side of perfectly-machined-round nitro-frozen sugar - hard to call it ice cream - no flavor at all and after placing it on the volcano-hot "cobbler" it still didn't melt- bent my spoon. The Reuben had nice meat but nearly no sauerkraut or sauce- you know, the part that makes a Rueben a Reuben. The best part about the meal was the fact I burnt my tongue on it- I will say it's the hottest sandwich I've ever eaten. Service was mediocre- waitress was more concerned about talking with the "regulars" about college than taking care of the patrons she didn't know. Hostess was spot on and actually was the one that realized my food was ready and brought it to me. If you want mediocre diner food, save your hard-earned, nearly-useless dollars and go to... cough... Denny's. I can't believe I passed up Waffle House to go to this place. read more

Our orders were very tasty, I had avocado toast with two eggs scrambled. Husband was ambitious; he had biscuits with gravy plus hash browns with cheese omelet. My first time at Metro Diner, and won't be my last. Ordered the large Charleston Shrimp and Grits...and WOW! That's a meal that packs a punch...! So rich, so tasty, so full of creamy good flavor and so much of it!! Metro doesn't skimp on anything with this dish...rich thick corn cakes, a ton of sauce dripping on everything, big tasty shrimp, chunks of sausage and other goodies...all I needed to add was hot sauce...because that's the way I usually roll. I was amazingly full after eating half...and happy I had another delicious meal in the box to take home. The real magic of this meal is that as good as it was in the restaurant...the leftovers tasted twice as good once reheated! All those yummy flavors just got better over time. We have lived year round in Sarasota about 2.5 years and have been looking for an all around good diner.....and a place where my husband can get a great turkey dinner. The Metro proved to satisfy our quest! I had the chicken salad croissant sandwich and my husband had the turkey dinner. Both were hands down 100% fabulous! Everything was fresh, cooked to perfection.....and the presentation was perfect. Alisha was our server.....she was friendly and very attentive. Great customer service! I ordered the "short stack" of pancakes and a side of bacon. The 2 pancakes were larger than the plate they were served! Ate half in the restaurant and the other half were he next morning. From a comfy environment that is similar to most any diner, with plenty of seating and a throwback look, to the offerings from pumpkin stuffed waffles to meatloaf and a metric ton of breakfast options! Disclaimer. The chicken and waffles is not for the faint of heart! Thick Belgian quarters topped with powdered sugar and strawberry butter, and about half a chicken! My daughter attempted to tackle it and made it through part way, box needed for sure! I ordered the huevos rancheros and it was stellar! Eggs your way over house done tortillas, chorizo, sour cream, cheese, chives, sauce and just damn good! Filling would be an understatement!
