Great old school diner ambiance. Service was quick. The "champagne flight" was unusual and I wasn't good for much of anything after I drink all four! This is the second time however, that I ordered the fried chicken. Both times they were badly overcooked and salty. However the server was quick to apologize and offer an alternative. About a 15 min wait on a busy Saturday morning which is completely reasonable. Instead of bottomless Mimosas we had topless Mimosas because they were poured to the rim. And at $4.39 each what a deal! The food was delicious, portions huge and service prompt and friendly and they were slammed busy. The poor guys in the kitchen barely had time for a breth. This rating is based on a breakfast diner. This was a delicious place to eat lunch. I had the large salad with fried, crispy chicken strips on it, tossed with the honey hot sauce. It was the perfect balance of heat and sweet on top of a delicious salad with wrench dressing. I sat at the bar and was able to watch the cooks, do their magic. Outside patio not in use, so don't bother bringing your dog. They have front double entry doors, however one door is kept locked. So people exiting are pushing past people entering. This is the place to go for your all american breakfast in Saint Augustine! Staff were all friendly, our waitress was SUPERB!!! Extra attentive, and caring. When ordering she asked if baby or my 7 yr old was allergic to any fruits or food. I thanked her for asking even though it was a No for us to any allergies. We came here for the corned beef hash that was pictured all over Yelp, but apparently they do not serve that anymore since Covid. We ended up ordering the chicken and waffles. It looked OK, but when we cut it open, the chicken was pink and undercooked. We would've gotten sick if we stayed. We sent everything back and left immediately. So went in tonight about 530-6pm. We have been longtime customers. Usually 1-3 times a week. Told yo pick a table. Not overly crowed. 2 couples behind us given menus and drinks. We waited. A family of 4 came through the front doors as waitress ran to get them and said "come with me, I've got a table ready for you and drinks on table. I'll bring you menus." In town for the 4th; we always like to try "local" eateries whenever we go out of town; found this diner online and wanted to give it a try. Though I was a bit skittish about the close proximity of the guests, we tried out best to "be safe". Some of the waitresses were wearing masks, some weren't. We had our masks on until our food came. Everything looked so good; we ended up getting the chicken and waffles to go to eat later on! :o) I had a veggie omelet with grits and wheat toast; my husband had sausage links, eggs, toast, pancakes, and hashbrowns. I will say that the Metro Diner's have gone from a 5 to a 2 star in my book. It was my number one favorite restaurant to go have lunch at. Since the pandemic their prices gone up like every other place but most of all the Food has changed drastically with them deleting many of my favorites and the Service has also changed drastically. Service was one of the best I've experienced but now I will say from a 5 to a 1. What a gem! We know it's a chain. Maybe one that reaches to multiple states? But this location exuded none of the typical downsides of a chain. Honestly, I don't think you could tell it was a chain if not told by someone. Kudos to this location for distinguishing itself and creating a unique vibe. Particularly cool given it's in a shopping plaza.. tho it is St Augustine, so it's got a good chance for a unique vibe naturally. Love this city. It was a Sunday late morning... while no one likes to wait.. . A wait is a good sign we are likely to get something good. Despite being busy checking in guests the hostess station got my 3 kiddo companions a beverage and even got us 2 adults a Bloody Mary-- no waiting for a table. We give this many thumbs up. Glad our 25-30 min wait was actually more like only 15. Super-kind and attentive personnel. Helpful with menu and welcoming/kind to us as visitors to this great city! Most importantly-- everything we got was perfect. And even though they could not have been busier-- great service, attentive and kind... food came in a timely way. First timer, it's soooooooo good. Server was attentive and although she had a lot of tables she didn't miss a beat. the food was fresh and hot, delicious. I had their well/known chicken and waffles and it did not disappoint. The strawberry butter tasted like strawberry ice cream, i thought i wasn't going to like it but it was genuinely delicious. the chicken was nice and crispy all while still holding onto the juiciness of the meat. What a fine diner! When I'm on vacation, I always love to dine at a diner like this one. I wish I lived here so I can dine there anytime :) The staffs are very nice and friendly. They communicate well with each others and seemed to work as a team. I believe the owner stopped by and chat with us. Everyone was very friendly and checked in with us to make sure we have everything we needed. My husband ordered the chicken and waffle. He was told to use the syrup and hot sauce on the chicken. Who would have thought that combination worked so well. Otherwise the chicken was quite bland. The strawberry whipped butter was divine. I order corned beef hash and a side order of hash brown. The hash brown was fried perfectly. Nicely brown and crunchy. Corned beef hash is always my favorite diner dish. I will always order this dish if the diner offers it. It was probably the best fresh one I have had. But I still prefer the can beef more :) Alert: When they ask if you would like croissant as an option for toast, beware that they charge you extra $1.5 for it. They didn't tell me it was an extra. I would have appreciated the information before I ordered it. For that I lower their rating to 4.5 stars. Oh one more thing: you must order the cheesy tots. It was the best! read more

We have been to other locations (Jacksonville and Coral Springs) and have always enjoyed so we were happy to see a location close to our hotel. They are following Covid Guidelines...spacing of tables, masks required, hand sanitizer, and they even give you a new mug instead of refilling your coffee. I ordered the San Francisco Benedict and it was really yummy. My boyfriend ordered Bisquits with Sausage Gravy with eggs and hash browns. There was nice amounts of sausage in his gravy and a huge piece(see pic) The only complaint we have is that the food was not hot, especially the potatoes. We were surprised because it came out so quickly. Service was attentive and friendly. I am very sad the South Florida locations have closed. I would come back here in a heartbeat. read more

I arrived at 3:30 and was seated immediately. Server came to my table within 5 minutes. The room was 1/4 full. I ordered the steak with eggs (presented in a bowl with cut up tomato and hollandaise.) I'm not sure what was going on, but every person aside from the host seemed frustrated and upset. My server was kind but seemed stressed. The cook was notably frustrated but was calm and not obnoxious about it. Everyone seemed to be trying their best. It was just draining to even be there. I'm willing to try this place again, only earlier in the day. Other than the steak bites, the food was ok. Of 10 pieces, 8 were all or mostly gristle I had a 50% coupon from signing up for one online. My soda was $3.49. It was not an enjoyable experience. I now see they close at 5pm. The Metro Diner is a regional chain that is based out of Jacksonville, Florida. The funny thing is that I did not realize it was a chain until we pulled up. There is a Metro Diner near my home town in St. Pete which I had always assumed was an independent operator. But hey, that is a good thing, right? I had not realized that this restaurant had previously been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. We came in on a Sunday, and it was very busy with the brunch crowd. I ordered the Club sandwich and nearly unhinged my jaw taking the first bite. It was quite delicious, even with the over abundant mayonnaise that the chef added. One of my daughters ordered the Reece's Pancakes that looked like an explosion from the Wonka factory on her plate. Her sister ordered the Fruity waffles, but she focused mainly on the fruit and avoided the syrup. Weird kid. My girlfriend was not feeling the breakfast vibe, so she ordered the Burger with a side of potatoes and gravy. There wasn't much left on any of the plates by the time we were done, and all of our bellies were full. By the time we got home, we were quick to look up the episode that Metro Diner was featured on DDD. Instantly, I wished that I had watched it before our visit. If you have a disability related to PTSD or Anxiety do not bring in a small service animal that needs to be next to you You will be told multiple reasons why and told to put your animal on the floor. Servers were nice, food was good however not so great for people with disabilities who needs their animal next to them If there was barking and/or other disruptive behaviors I would have understood. There wasn't and I feel completely discriminated against. My dog goes everywhere with me and has been in much fancier restaurants than Metro and we have never been treated this way.
