Love, love, love this place! I go there with my Aunt when I come across the bay to Moraga and we recently had her birthday party there. The food is consistently terrific and the service is always great. They have wonderful salads and sandwiches. Nice atmosphere and a lovely outside patio too. The Crispy Chicken Sandwich for $17 was actually tasteless and pretty terrible, despite the fact upon mentioning it, the waiter brought me some other sauce which made it somewhat better. EPIC BAD SERVICE! We made a 6 pm reservation through OpenTable and arrived on time. We were seated right away which was nice, and then we waited... and waited... and waited. when the waiter did find his way to our table it was only because two older ladies that had been seated before us waved him over after several attempts. She asked if he forgot about them. He then rudely told her he has this table, that table, and that table, that all needed drinks, while pointing around the room. After taking their drink order he finally came to our table. We ordered drinks, one glass of wine, and one draft beer. And then we waited... and waited... and waited! finally, after we had been seated for 20 minutes our drinks arrived and another waiter came to our table and said "I see you have been waiting a long time, can I take your order? My beautiful and always gracious girlfriend told them that the older ladies next to us have been waiting longer. 'Oh, thank you the guy says and turns to take their order. He then turns back to us and asks what we would like to order. As we begin to order, our original waiter comes over and says "I got this". At that point, the helpful waiter shrugged his shoulders as if to say "I'm sorry" and walked off. After taking our order the guy disappears. literally does not come back! after being seated for 45 minutes, finishing our drinks, and getting no food we walked up to the hostess table gave them money for our drinks, and walked out! There are plenty of good restaurants in Lafayette. Don't waste your time with this one! read more

Came here for brunch on a Saturday. We had a party of 11 and we're sat outside. Service was horrible and we felt pretty neglected. Ten minutes into being seated, we didn't have menus and had to ask for some had to ask for them. 30 minutes in, no one had come to take or order. We were having trouble flagging someone down so my mom literally had to get up, leave her seat, and ask a waiter to take our order. Food came out another 35 minutes after ordering. My burger was pretty good, I'll give them that. The quality of the meat is fantastic. It's so tender! They use meat from Five Dot Ranch. It comes with yummy fries too. However, due to the horrendous service, I probably won't be back. read more

First Impressions Matter Arrived Thursday noon for lunch at a mostly empty restaurant. No one was at the reception desk for a few minutes and when a woman in white arrived, I asked, "Are you the hostess?" Without so much as a smile, the woman responded, "I'm the owner," in a tone both abrupt and dismissive. She then told me the Saint Mary's College party I was there to meet didn't have a reservation--again, in a nearly deserted interior and patio. Had I not been meeting a group I would have left at that point. Turns out the dour woman is "the owner," Erica. While our server, Kendra, was more cheerful and the four dishes satisfactory, I'm reminded that we never get a second chance to make a first impression. Went for drinks and appetizers with friends last night. We were all very disappointed to see the host, bartender and about half the servers maskless, even tho the sign outside says masks are required. We sat outside so We felt ok staying. The food was ok, but we are pretty sure the bourbon we were served was not what we ordered (we drink this particular brand ALL THE Time). Service was not super. I will never go back to this restaurant. The owner is very rude, and does not admit that some of the food was not prepared right. We ordered the the crab salad and the chickien salad, and both were pretty bad. No dressing, and the chicken was over cooked. When we spoke with the owner, he said "there is nothing wrong with the food". We also ordered two glasses of Frank Family chardonnay, and one minute late we asked the waiter to give us a bottle instead. He said "its too lake, we already pour the two glasses of wine. Seriously? Three, not so wild and crazy guys, enjoyed a very good lunch on a beautiful Fall afternoon. Sitting outside, we shared a Tomato Bruschetta, Sautéed Sole (with buttery mashed potatoes) and a superlative Duck Confit. Our French wine expert ordered a Comte' Chardonnay which went well with our fine meal. Meal was so good we ordered a second Duck and bottle of Comte'. HORRIBLE service and food! Our waitress seemed completely annoyed at having to service us. She never came around to see how we were doing. Other waiters had to step in, bring us our food, and even get her to pay the bill. She never apologized for being so rude or busy....just grabbed our credit card and then came back and literally almost threw the bill at us. On an $84 tab we left $4......should have left NOTHING. We will not be returning to this decidedly terrible restaurant again. Food is mediocre at best. Service SUCKS royally. The waitress is the one with the long black hair and heavy set. We are regulars. The salmon always has a great char on it. The brussel sprouts are crispy and yum with a perfect dipping mayo. The schnitzel has a mustard sauce so good we always ask for and receive a little extra. The rib appetizers are back and cant be beat. My party of 6 (4 adults, 2 kids) were able to walk in shortly after lunch on a Sunday afternoon. This place has a full bar, which was a plus. The outdoor patio was nice and spacious and covered with umbrellas. Food was pretty good, but they have a limited menu. (No photo of food Bc we were starving!) we ordered the Brussels sprout appetizer, 1 crab Benedict, 1 spicy ahi tuna, 1 burger, and 1 fish plate. All were delicious and service was great. Hosted a group luncheon over the weekend with family and friends. In terms of food it was quite good. In terms of service it left much to be desired. I reserved the private dining area with an American Express card, however the restaurant refused to accept final payment with that card. Don't order from Metro! This is the second time I ordered online and my food didn't show after the order was confirmed. On one occasion an employee of Metro told me they were too busy to fill the order, and the next time when doordash arrived he was was sent away. We are now told metro doesn't use doordash any longer. All the racist reviews on here are true. Dined at Metro tonight with my family. We were a large party of 15 & had a pre-set menu. Aside from the fact that our 3 course meal took 4 hours to complete, the food was fine and our server, Ashley, was amazing. As it became dark, it grew colder on the patio. Our table (comprised of 4 smaller tables) had 2 heat lamps set up at either end, so we asked for another to put in the middle as those in the middle couldn't feel the heat. Ashley herself moved a heat lamp over for us. However, her coworker, who was supposed to be lighting it for us, told us that the manager said that there should only be 2 heat lamps per table. So he had to move the lamp away - even though it was unused by anyone else. Glancing over to the party across from us, I noticed FOUR heat lamps, 5 if you count the additional table they had. It also wasn't hard to notice that there wasn't a single person of color sitting with them. Towards the end of the dinner, a family member of mine goes inside and asks to speak with the manager. She begins to explain the situation to him and when the issue of race arises, he becomes instantly defensive. He proceeds to ask what he can do to make things right, and she asks to have our wine comped. He responds and says that it isn't something he can do. So she says, "so what can you do for me?" And in return, he walks away. Needless to say we will not be returning & will never recommend this place to anyone. read more

We've been going here for many years and we like their food. We also like their tropical iced tea. However, we recently went there for lunch and ordered food and iced tea. However, we felt so dizzy/high/nauseated after drinking two glasses of their tropical iced tea. We have never experienced this before and wonder if there were changes to their iced tea mix but we probably won't drink more than a glass anymore read more

I've gotta say that Metro actually exceeded my expectations because I asked a friend what she thought of the food and she said that it was just pricey for mediocre food. Honestly, when I heard that, I pretty much made up my mind and said I wasn't going to eat at Metro; but then again her boss goes there every Friday or so for lunch. So, on one hand, my friend says it's not great and then on the other hand, her boss goes there a lot. Tough decision... I decided to give it a try any way because I've driven by there so many times and have always been curious to know what the food is like. Plus, it was such a beautiful afternoon to dine outdoors with my son. We arrived around 3:45 PM on a Thursday afternoon. The thermostat in my car reads 98 degrees so my son said he wanted to sit inside where the a/c is nice and cool. But since I'm the mom and I'm paying the bill, I get to decide and we're sitting outside. Yes, I AM one of those moms! Our waitress, Donna, came out to greet us and brought us some iced water. We placed our orders and within minutes our food arrived at our table. Service was very attentive and quick. I love dining out during off hours because it's not crowded and service tends to be better. My son had the ahi tuna poke, which we both thought was very flavorful. Even the crackers that accompanied the dish was good. Donna was very sweet to give us extra crackers because my son was worried that he wouldn't get full off of the order. I ordered the crispy brussels sprouts. It was cooked to perfection, well-flavored with a hint of lime juice. You actually don't even need the dip that comes with it, but I made use of it any way. We also split an order of black & white truffle fries. I couldn't believe how they were able to cook the fries to a perfect crisp. It actually stayed crispy even though we left it sitting there for 15 minutes while we both enjoyed our dish. How is that possible? Most fries get soggy and dry within five minutes of just sitting out. Plus, the fact that we were sitting outside should've made the fries go stale even more quickly. I guess they just know how to make perfect fries. The food was tasty, but I do have to be honest that it was pretty pricey. I wouldn't consider Metro to be fine dining so it's hard to justify paying fine dining price for fries and appetizers. Although, I would say it's definitely worth trying out and I will return for the food. Great spot to sit outside on a nice date, that's for sure! read more

I stopped by for lunch at 1:30, sat in the bar area and the bartender said he was busy and he'd be with me shortly. 15 minutes later he took my drink order. My drink came with a chipped glass. I sat there drinking my cocktail for 20 minutes and no one took my food order. When the bartender finally asked if I wanted to order food, I said not now, just the check. I can't comment on the food since I never got any. The service was so bad I will not give Metro a second chance. Very disappointing. read more

HAPPY HOUR OYSTER HAPPINESS I should probably make a Yelp list soon of all the Happy Hour (HH) places that serve $1 oysters. This one would top the list. The oysters we had were in these small, thin little shells (almost see-through when empty) and were very likely the best oysters either of us had ever had. East or west coast. They were Chef's Creek and the thin shells sitting on crushed ice made them extra cold as we consumed. I imagine that is part of what made them so memorable. We washed down the $1 sea bites with beers in tall glasses. The bartenders were attentive and fun - I think one was in training. I actually knew one of them from high school (Justin) and he was able to keep his level of professionalism high while being very friendly and chatting with us for a few moments. Went for a New Years Eve dinner at a late seating, 9 PM. They were already out of Lobster and Filet Migon which eliminated the "price fix" menu as these were the entrée choices. It's New Years Eve so it's busy didn't bother me a lot they were out of things. Very disappointed in the food for the prices we paid. Our entrees (duck and Sole) were bland, and totally under-seasoned. Oysters Rockefeller were not hot enough, chopped cob salad just blah. Best item was crispy brussel sprouts, which were also the cheapest thing we ordered. For the price the quality doesn't match, I understand it was a busy night, however, that shouldn't be a reason for a slip in quality or seasoning. read more

So I arrive to dine solo at the bar on a weeknight. There was one seat open at the bar but a woman had set her purse on the bar stool. I ask her if she is saving the seat for anyone. She looks at me and says no. I ask her if I could sit there. She looks at me as if I had just asked her to run around the block six times. Once the woman snatched her purse from the stool I sat down and dealt with a highly indifferent bartender. I had to ask for everything: drink, then menu, then to order food, then for water, etc. I grazed on some decent appetizers but got out of there to find a place with a better vibe. Our Sunday excursions have taken us over to the fancy schmancy side of the bay. When you walk in its confusing because you pretty much walk into the bar and don't know which way to head to find a table. The host walked over to the podium area and nicely asked if we needed help. That's when we obviously saw where to go. We sat indoors even though the outdoor seating looked very inviting. We also had our small child with us and outdoor seating might be too tempting to want to run around and be bad for him. Service was spotty and seemed to be juggled between the lady who was our waitress and the initial host. Their cocktail list was very nice. Our starter was the Petite Aime. It was very nicely crafted. Gorgeous in color and flavor. This went along with an order of oysters. I couldn't tell what kind we were served because I couldn't understand what the waitress said. They were very good so what ever she recommended was very nice. My entree was the Cold Crab Sandwich. If this was all I had I would have been horribly disappointed. It didn't hold up to basic sandwich handling. It fell apart and was rather blah in flavor. I was exasperated by the final attempts to finish. So to satiate my sandwich disappointment I ordered myself the Organic Green . If Green had a flavor it should taste like this. So smooth and luxurious on your taste buds. Just like the first drink the presentation was stellar. My husband had some kind of Chicken dish that he hated. More than I did my sandwich. My son loved the French Fries though. What 1 year old doesn't?! I keep wanting to come back to try again but my husband won't let me. He says only for cocktails but with a baby that's far and few between for us now. I wouldn't mind coming back. I probably will for a work day lunch one of these days. Always willing and able to eat. That's me!! read more

This place was surprisingly cool and hip (for the area, haha). I guess you have to be when you are the ONLY restaurant that would accept a dinner reservation for 9:30pm. Lafayette reality check! Everything closes before 9pm... ON A SATURDAY NIGHT!!! We had a super late dinner due to appointments not being kept in a timely manner (ASTOUND!! Grrrrrrr) but Metro was very accommodating. We called every 30 min to continuously push back our dinner reservation : / We were starving by the time we got there. We ordered appetizers, large entrees and multiple cocktails (excuse being...hmmmm... long day? Ha! Long or short, I'm a multiple cocktail gal regardless) Everything was definitely up to par, and the drinks were excellent. I kept looking around at the patrons and wondered where all these swanky, hipster-ish people came from. Must be from out of town? Sitting outside on their large patio late at night, sipping cocktails... It kind of gave me a Berkeley type vibe. Anyway, I was impressed to say the least! Better than expected!! read more

I'm not sure why people are complaining about this place so much. The service was impeccable and the manager even came out to greet us. They did not rush us and when we ordered a lot of food they asked us what we would like first and so on. We received a warm welcoming upon entering and we the vibe is very relaxed. OKAY, now the food. YUMMY! We loved everything we ordered. The pea soup was a great starter, very light and no cream. The bruschetta a was very unique, it was toasted and they used goat cheese. Also, the brussel sprouts were nice and crispy and the salads were very fresh. We mostly got appetizers but our friend got the fettucini and was very pleased. Delicious! My boyfriend and I came her to celebrate our 1 year anniversary on Sunday night, booked a same day reservation (yeah he lagged big time!) and were greeted wonderfully by the host and seated right by the fireplace. Service was definitely on point with the waitstaff constantly checking in on us. We orded the duck spring rolls, the poke, cod, and steak. We loved the duck and the poke. Even their bread was yummy. When it came to the main meal I liked most of my dish except for the chunk of rice at the bottom which looked like burned sticky rice, but the cod, the tempura mushrooms and even the side salad it came with was wonderfully presented and really tasty. My boyfriend's steak came with a huge mound of fries that we both couldn't even polish off together. For dessert we had the chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting, it tasted so fresh and moist, we love, love, loved it! It was a perfect experiance for a perfect night, we'll definitely be back when we have something to celebrate. read more

I joined my work ladies for a lovely lunch on Metro's sunlit patio on a Wednesday afternoon, and had a great time! Though overall I wasn't as dazzled as I'd hoped, I found it to be a charming and well appointed neighborhood restaurant with tasty food and reasonable prices, and their customer service was top notch! We made a reservation through Open Table, though for a weekday lunch it wasn't needed as the restaurant is quite spacious. I didn't get our server's name but she took great care of us, with an extra classy touch of paying a little special attention to the two ladies in our group who were there to celebrate their birthdays. We started with the tuna poke and brussell sprouts - the sprouts especially were very tasty and savory! The poke was nice, light and fresh with a hint of spice, though I was a little disappointed that the avocado we paid extra for wasn't presented very nicely, just a banged up avocado half flopped on the plate. For an upcharge, it would have been nice if it looked a little tidier. But the flavors were yummy! I opted for their Maine Lobster BLT sandwich and was very happy! Fresh and succulent lobster, generous pieces of properly cooked bacon (crispy, not floppy!), heirloom tomatoes and butter lettuce on a warm fresh toasted bun. The nature of the chunks of lobster made the sandwich difficult to eat, so I ditched the top bun and enjoyed it open faced - it tasted wonderful! After lunch, our birthday girls were treated to candle-topped profiterole desserts, and we all shared the lemon pudding cake with blueberries - what a fabulous dessert that was, I would return just for that! Light and summery and creamy, just exquisite! It's nice to find a neighborhood restaurant that still manages to bring that real touch of elegance, and Metro does a wonderful job of that. A wish for b-day happ-i-ness That I couldn't just send Went to Metro for my dear friend's birthday this past Saturday night (it's funny because she turned 29 again too), and what a scene! Who knew Lafayette was such a happening place to be. The restaurant was literally packed with people; so packed in fact that even with a reservation, we still waited around 45 minutes for a table...this was of no big consequence to us, as it just forced us to catch up over delicious drinks at the bar (darn, my evil plan worked all along). When we did finally sit down, we decided to order a bunch of small plates (and one big) to share. I'm so glad we did because everything was Amazing with a capital A (plus plus). The tuna appetizer literally melts in your mouth, the cheese plate is fresh and delicious and the bruschetta---who sprinkled fairy dust on this culinary creation to make it "out-of-this-world"? I should also mention that we shared the misoyake black cod which is moist, flakey and flavorful; a definete must have...again, and again and again. The only downer I'd say is the $25 corkage fee. We brought a bottle of Veuve and even though my table mates said this is fairly typical for a corkage now-a-days, 25 dollars seems a bit steep. Maybe I'm crazy or just feeling the economic pinch, but I think $15-20 is about right. But all in all, this is absolutely a restaurant I will continue to go back to. If I typed as slow as they served, I'd be here all night... I made a reservation at Metro Lafayette for Mother's Day brunch. Although I live in Livermore, I wanted to change it up and eat somewhere new. I read that they offered a $22 prix fixe brunch which was way more affordable than other restaurants, so I jumped on it. We arrived at 11:30am and the place was packed. We ended up with a table in the sun room which I felt was the perfect spot--all the benefits of sitting outside without actually sitting outside. Only one person in my party ordered off the prix fixe menu. I guess it seemed sort of limited to the rest of us. I was in a savory mood so I went with the Crab Salad Sandwich with a Side Salad. Here is my list of annoying things that occurred: -The worst thing by far was the extremely slow service. Yes, our waitress was kind and personable, but she kept disappearing. For example, there should not be a 15 minute gap between the passing out of the dessert menu and the order being taken. The restaurant knew they would be busy so they should have added more staff. -We had an extra chair at our table which I used to place my purse and my toddler's items on. Halfway through our meal one of the managers came by and asked if he could take it. I looked at him incredulously but he insisted that he needed it for another party. I had to take all my stuff off and put it on the floor. Classy. -My brother asked for scrambled eggs with his hash instead of poached eggs but the waitress said that the restaurant could not accommodate him. -My disappointment was in my sandwich. Yes, the crab salad was tasty, but the sandwich was served on freaking Wonder bread. Not the lovely brioche that came with the burgers, but boring old white bread. I was pretty bummed, to say the least. Beyond all that negativity, the rest of the dishes all looked (and I was told tasted) fabulous. My party was quite pleased with their food, just not the random things that happened. All in all, I absolutely know that this restaurant has many great things to offer, but they struck out too many times during our visit. read more
