Seriously the best biscuits I've ever had! Flaky and light. So much butter that the bottom of it almost seems a tad fried. Food: I've gone a couple of times. Charcuterie plate has this lovely rillette/pate (what's the difference?) and fried brussel sprouts are delicious. Brunch was phenomenal. Prix dish and they split it for us. AMAZING BISCUITS. Yep, the CAPS were necessary. I've never tasted a more delicious biscuit. Delicious Eggs Benedict. Little potato galette. Like a croquette...so good. I could eat a bowl of just those potato galettes. Kids meal. Chicken tenders and fries. Truly delicious chicken. Again, they split the kids meal for our two young ones while the bigger one had her own. Service: I've gone twice and two very different experiences with servers. The first time was great. The 2nd time we had our kids and they seemed pretty off put by us, both from the host and the server. Is it because we had kids or they were just having a bad day? Who knows? I had asked the waiter between two dishes and before I could even finish he said Tri-Tip. The Roasted Five Dot Ranch Tri-Tip with poached eggs, crispy potato galette & chipotle hollandaise. Oh. My. God. Soooooo good. I wanted to scarf it down and savour it all at the same time! The Tri-Tip had just the amount of pink and super tender. The only thing I could say is that I wanted more of the chipotle hollandaise, but thats because I'm greedy and it was phenomenal. I've come here off and on since it opened - mostly off until recently as I felt their food quality suffered a bit a few years back. Sometimes it would be very good and other times mediocre, but over the last several weeks I have come back 3 times and been pleasantly surprised by something here at metro. The first time it was the waiter, Nick, who made the whole meal light and fun with an engaging wit and attentive service. The next time it was the food that stood out as the draw for the evening. Finally on our third visit, it was the host and manager that made our visit memorable. In other words, there are a lot of positives about Metro that makes the place worth checking out. The Good: The food, of late, has been consistently well prepared and had great flavor. Even when we have encountered a problem, it has been taken care of quickly and to our satisfaction. For instance, on my last trip I had a thai chicken salad that initially had very little flavor in the cabbage and noodle base, although the chicken still tasted good. When I asked the waiter about it, he quickly returned with their thai dressing and the salad was saved. The apple slaw on the fried chicken sandwich provides a tart and refreshing counterpoint to the savory, crisp chicken breast, and their Metro burger is always a good go to. During our last visit for brunch with a party of 9, the guest of honor wanted to sit on the patio. The only problem was that it was a very warm day and only half the table benefited from the shade of the overhang while the other half of the table was in direct sun. After sitting on the sunny side for about 5 minutes, it was clear that my bald head would not survive the vicious solar onslaught. When I asked the hostess about moving the table back into the shade, a busboy appeared as if by magic and the table was moved back into the shade tout suite. Brunch was saved! The bar is also a notable positive for this establishment, especially if you like whiskeys and appreciate a place where someone seems to take pride in finding the better, hard to find bottles The bad: nothing The mediocre: I would put the happy hour menu on the mediocre side. The portions are pretty small and the prices are just OK. This may be on purpose because I don't think their chosen demographic is the happy hour crowd, but all the same - if you're going to have a happy hour then you should make it special. Overall: There was a time a few years ago where I stopped coming here because it seemed the food at the time had become uninspired. After being dragged back by friends a few times, I found that the food had improved significantly, and the service staff made me want to come back. Just hosted a group of 6 adults. Everything was spectacular from the front of the house to the back of the house and our great server Kendra. We understand restaurants are busy and shortstaffed and despite those issues Metro lived up to the task. Food was delicious two orders of pork chops which we think has the best in the county. Salmon and petrale sole equally as good. Please don't listen to the other Chuck E. Cheese reviewer's Metro is great and a must when in Lafayette. read more

My date brought me here for dinner and it was an excellent choice. There is a very cozy feel to the ambiance and the dim lighting and the fire place really set the mood. The service was also good, our waiter was very profesional and made good suggestions. We started with two glasses of pinot noir and shared a shrimp salad which was delicious. He ordered the pork ribs and I had the duck risotto entree. They were both good but not amazing. I honestly liked the salad better but I'm sure there are better items on their menu that I would love to try. The smell of sewer hit my nose when we walked in- shame on my for not leaving then! Our cocktails were good and Dave the bartender was lovely. However, the Brussel sprouts were very greasy, burnt and not crispy but the shrimp salad was the biggest disappointment! Plain, boiled shrimp with absolutely no seasoning on top of a small handful of romaine and measly avocado slices- it was incredibly bland and not visually pleasing at all.(for $26!) Slow service with large gaps, forgot things we asked for, the food was just ok, and the desserts were tiny. We had a dinner of appetizers, champagne, drinks, and desserts. The poke was good and spicy, the fries perfectly salty. The other stuff, like super moist crab cakes and tiny sashimi portions and slightly sour chopped salad, it just wasn't good. The desserts were ok, but nothing spectacular, and certainly not worth 8 bucks a serving. The service was pleasant but disinterested and we had to flag them down, there were no "how's it going, can I get you another drink" stop-bys. I know they are busy, but we were there early and we had to ask to order food. The patio area is great. They did a nice job on it, the space is comfortable and inviting. Metro has consistently: - very good food - great martinis - less than great service Their best dishes in my opinion are the seasonal ones. I love their soups, tomato salads, and the majority of their small plates. I am typically a bit underwhelmed by their salads, so stay away from them. They always sound so good, but don't usually deliver for me. I like it that they serve California Cuisine, so there is always good variety on the menu. In the East Bay, there isn't a lot of competition in that area. I had a delightful dinner on a cold night, seated in front of their fire place. It was very cozy. And the patio is so nice in the warmer months. You really don't feel like you're on a busy street in a strip mall! Don't go if you're in a hurry. It's just not fast. read more

I have now been here two Sundays in a row and both were pleasant experiences. I also was there for Mother's Day brunch at 11:30 and had a much different experience. Our waiter was very helpful and we were served both our drinks and our food very very quickly. Everyone who helped my party were very friendly. My sister and I had the special Mother's Day sangria. My sister loved hers. I thought it was ok but a bit too sweet as they added raspberry I believe. My mom had a bloody mary that was very tasty. Two weeks ago I had some chicken and egg scramble that was very tasty. Today I had the spinach quiche and it was also good but the chicken and egg scramble I had last week was better. My sister had the eggs benedict and I heard it was very delicious. I also liked the chicken sandwich my mom and other sister got. The apple cabbage slaw that comes with it is very good. Overall, a very great time and I will go back. Especially when Chow is super busy. The only down side for me is that I wish they had more scrambled egg options. Everything on the breakfast menu seems to have poached eggs and I only like scramble. If only they could have a veggie scramble like Chow. read more

Since living in the Lafayette area, we have found some nice go-to spots. One such establishment for us is Metro. Judging from its strip-mall location on Mt. Diablo, you would never guess that this place is actually pretty hip inside. My favorite part about Metro is actually the outside patio. With modern DWR-like decor and warm white Christmas lights on at night, I really enjoy this space. Factor in great cocktails and good food, and we have a definite winner. Cuisine here is however more New American than French. Other than the Croque Monsieur...there's not a whole lot of traditionally French dishes on the menu. But that's okay since what they do serve up works really well for us :) read more

(But not in a way that it was annoying.) He was very sweet and also suggested some drinks and good dishes for us to try. FOOD + Drinks= Delicious Chipotle Pear Martini: A+ [Perfectly mixed drink. Loved it. Possibly the best Martini I've EVER had. I'll def be coming back for more. YUM!] Crab Cake: A [Nice Presentation. The small plate comes w/ only ONE crab cake. It was good. I could have easily eaten about 10 of these. Goes really well w/ the avocado + cucumber that come w/ the plate.] Calamari: B+ [The calamari itself was not impressive. Too many tentacles and not enough rings. lol. And the pieces were small. Both sauces that it came w/ were good. Spicy Aoli was yummy. Hint: The Lemongrass dipping sauce makes a great dressing for the side salad that comes w/ the calamari.] And my favorite part of all... DESSERT: Salted Caramel Pot de Crème w/ shortbread cookies= A+ [I fell in love w/ this dessert. I'm not even gonna try to explain how yummy it is. Just order it. :)] Overall, I really loved Metro. staff were nice and accommodating, but the food leaves a lot to be desired, at least on the dishes we ordered. The Pasta Bolognese came without grated cheese , and it is customary for the server to come with a block of cheese and grate it over the dish...or during Covid at least just bring a little bowl of grated Parmesan . I asked for grated cheese and was told that costs extra $2 , I was incredulous ...2 minutes later he came back and said it is 75 cents. Naw, not really !! Do I hear 25, going 30 .... Finally I got my grated cheese, free, with apologies , but I was almost done with the dish . The Pork Schnitzel was a huge disappointment, except for the wonderful fingerling potatoes and the red cabbage , it was ALL breading, the meat had been pounded so thin that it looked like a sheet of paper inside the breading , I could not taste any meat . The apple / cherry gallette very nice , but there were 2 cherry PITS in it . That should not happen ! read more

One star is generous. Service was terrible. Had to go ask waiter after sitting for about 20 minutes for additional water. Asked for a breadbasket, got one roll sliced into 4 pieces (4 of us at the table). No one ever checked on us and we waited 30 minutes for a couple of salads. Salads were decent but on the small side. We had a child and asked if they have a side of fruit (wasn't on the menu) waiter said definitely brought 1/4 of an orange cut up with probably 3 strawberries cut up (one was bad) and they charged us $8 for that + $10 for child plate of pasta = $18 for an 8 year old and her pasta with butter was cold..... Very disappointed in our lunch here and won't be going back. read more

We came here after my cousin's baptism for a private brunch. The first thing I noticed was the impressive bar set up they had. We sat in the back since we had a large group and I noticed the heated tent outside. Upon checking out the tent, the temp was about the same as inside the restaurant which I thought was very cool to have. Everyone was given the Zeppole Fritters that was so damn yummy. The Meyer lemon curd sauce highlighted the soft fluffy fritter and me and my cousin liked it so much we had 2 more plates brought in while we waited for our main courses. I had the pork loin panini with bacon, grilled onions and cheddar which was very tender and tasty. The fries were good as well, though I didn't have many since I was already full. The amount of fries that comes with the sandwich could easily feed 2 people. The caramelized banana crepe with nutella was tasty too. I can't wait to come back and try some other dishes. read more

The most pleasant lunch restaurant I think I've ever been to. Friend and I shared peach bruschetta, avocado toast, tomatoes with burrata, and the fish tacos. All were excellent. We shared the chocolate bread pudding for dessert which I could have passed for a big scoop of a crispy chocolate soufflé it was so light. Friend had a glass of white, I went with the organic green cocktail - an amazing find. Waitress was great - kept her distance while keeping her eye on us. A beautiful meal on a perfect fall day in the sheltered patio. Don't let the word metro put you off - the restaurant has figured out that metro doesn't have to mean cold glass, concrete and stainless steel. Can't wait to return. read more

Today we had a celebration lunch for 25 people in the Garden Room at Metro. From the moment we called and talked to Erika about spaces, (which was perfect for our group), menu and food options we had a good experience. Our service on arrival was warm and prompt. Drinks were perfectly made, appetizers passed politely, orders taken for a fixed Prix set that the servers immediately adapted for our vegetarians. The food was excellent and deserts were rich and delicious. Swordfish, schnitzel and apple crisp were outstanding dishes. Thank you Metro staff for making our day special. read more

For the second year in a row, we held a wedding shower at Metro and both were wonderful events. The Metro event planner, Erika, made things so easy, 'even during the pandemic. The event was held outside with a group size that met all the CDC requirements for safety. The best part was the food. Oh my gosh, the brunch was absolutely delicious. Our personalized menu had five wonderful selections that made it very hard to choose. This was followed by 3 choices of desserts. Our guests all agreed every choice was a delicious one. I've been here multiple times now, and each time have been mostly satisfied with the quality. The food is always fresh and pretty tasty, however this last visit solidified metro as a 3 star restaurant so I finally decided to write a review. I couldn't decide between 3 or 4 stars, but the portion size have continually been a bit small and there were some execution mishaps with the cooking. They were minor, but still brought the dish down enough. This past visit we ordered two appetizers to start: the asparagus and the Brussels sprouts. The Brussels sprouts were cooked beautifully, and the aoli they are served with balances the acidity of the lemon juice drizzle excellently; they were delicious. The asparagus themselves were also cooked very well, nice and tender but still enough firmness to keep it from adopting a mushy texture. However the poached egg on top was overdone and the yolk was completely solid which limited the ability to experience the dish as a whole (though the yolk & olive tapenade complemented each other well). I ordered the Hawaiian Ono as my entree and it was a bit overcooked as well unfortunately. It was a little tough on the exterior, but the fish itself wasn't too dry which is what I was afraid of. The potatoes it was served with were also a bit lacking in flavor and besides the subtle crunch for texture change they were meant to provide (which they did) did not add anything to the dish. I would still recommend Metro based on the overall quality of the food being good, however it is not the place to go if you are especially hungry as you will, no doubt, leave without fully satisfying your appetite. read more

What can I say. Went to Metro to eat outside. Great patio area. Good drinks. Food missed the mark. Salads we sub par, and entrees we're so small, we left feeling hungry. Salmon was small and over cooked. The sole was so "CRISPY" I had to use a knife to cut threw it. Portions are the smallest in the area. We have been eating out supporting the businesses, but struck out here. The prices for the amount of small food is off balance. Sorry Metro, won't be back. read more

Went for happy hour which is Mon-Fri 3-6. We had to call over a waiter/bartender in order. To partake in ordering. Decent selection of items. Well drinks, wine and beer $6 or less. Small bites are tacos ($3.50 per taco); garlic Brussels sprouts ($9); Asian Honey chicken wings (3 full wings) I don't recall the price. We sent the wings back they were NOT tasty; garlic truffle fries (best thing next to the Brussels sprouts and tacos). They are stingy with happy hour cocktails (you can only have ONE cocktail per person on the table at any given time) however you can have 2 beers or 2 glasses of wine per person at the table. Came in a Monday evening. The place was buzzing with post World Series-win Giants fans which was fun. I had the crab cake to start. It had a really good crust on it. The crab and other flavors were tasty. I had the gnocchi entree. It is done differently than expected. It has lot of vegetables in it but did not disappoint. The chocolate "cake" wasn't really cake-like but it was really dense and chocolately. No argument from me. The warm chocolate chip cookie was also very good. Been here a couple of times and so far its been pretty good, no problems with the manager like other reviews have stated, waitstaff generally friendly and quick with their service. Food is actually very nicely prepared and tastes great; I've had a couple and most are fresh. Oysters are always worth a shot - the mignonette tastes fantastic with them - and its clear they take time preparing the food in the way it comes out. Only one thing though: The cost. Everything is so expensive. I guess its to scare away the less desireables (its pretty posh) but even so, portions are tiny for a $15+ meal. Good reliable hipster fare in Lafayette. The Metro Lafayette is much larger than the Oakland location. My husband and I always order more than we can eat when we visit this place. For starters we had oysters and clams from the raw bar. Both the oysters and clams were fresh and so good I could've had two dozen. Next we had the hamachi crudo. The hamachi was a generous portion and the arugula vinaigrette complimented the fish. Next we had the charcuterie. My only comment is that there isn't enough bread for all of the duck liver moouse. We also had the mussels which were perfect with bread to sop up the mussel juice. For dessert, we had the profiteroles. They were a bit disappointing. The cream puffs tasted pre-made. Loud noise from other tables. They said that their gnocchi pasta was made in house which didn't even look like gnocchi at all. We didn't like that for some reason the waiters are eager to kick the guests out: even we would like to stay and order more food and drinks, after 1 round of food, they clean up the table and bring the bill (to other tables as well) even the restaurant is half-empty on weekends. They don't offer shareable antipasti like many other restaurants: the only option is french fries. Being a relatively higher priced restaurant, great outdoor area, good location etc., we expected better, than fast-food style. I got hungry at 10pm last night and decided to give this place a shot, given that it was between here or a fast food joint. I regret not coming here sooner. The outside patio is cozy and romantic. They have heaters so even in the cold, sitting outside is comfortable. The kitchen closes at 10:00pm but they have a pretty respectable bar menu until 11:00PM. I tried the carne asada, chicken, and fish street tacos. Each one deliciously made. Our waiter was attentive and came to check on us every few minutes. Not sure what people complain about, maybe service gets worse when they're busy. For a late night grub, this place is my number 1 spot in Lafayette. read more

My colleague tells me she orders the beet salad every time she dines at Metro, and after trying it, her decision is completely justified. It was so good. The beets were tender and sweet, the somewhat mild goat cheese added savoriness and creaminess, the hazelnuts a crunchy contrast, and I don't know what those leaves or herbs were on top of the salad, but the flavor they added to the salad was most intriguing. I couldn't decide between the black cod, petrale sole, and tombo tuna, so I asked our server for his recommendation. From most to least favorite, he ranked them as: cod, tuna, then sole. I don't know what the cod is like, but based on our fish dishes, I found the sole most delicious. The accompanying haricots verts (thin green beans) were fresh and the mashed potatoes with caper sauce were decadently rich and buttery. As for the tombo tuna, everything it came with was tasty and well prepared except the tuna steak itself. For my tastes, I would have preferred that it was either seared with a lot of pink on the inside, or just cooked all the way through, but it was neither. On top of that, it was kind of bland. With two out of three tasty dishes plus good service and elegant outdoor seating, I'd come back to try some of the other dishes people seem to unanimously recommend (tacos, crab cakes, tuna poke). We were seated next to a planter where a decent number of gnats or small flying insects congregated, so for those susceptible to itching or are generally bug averse, I'd recommend bringing a light shirt/sweater. The little buggers are worth putting up with as it is quieter outside, and you are less likely to smell like restaurant when you leave. read more

Great Place for Family Reunions! I worked with Erika Pringsheim-Moore from Metro Lafayette to organize our family reunion Brunch, 20 family members from Australia, Florida and the Bay Area. I was looking for something special and a place with great food, a wide selection of choices and were family friendly. I and I got it all! Metro Lafayette even created custom menus just for our party. Hats off to Erika, as she graciously made multiple changes to or plans as the Big Day got closer--I loved that She kept saying Yes to all my requests including adding 2 more chairs the morning of our event. We ordered two appetizers: the first was the brussels sprouts with the Arioli dipping sauce. I thought it was really good and I am not a huge fan of brussels sprouts. The other appetizer was the oysters. My only complaint about the oysters is that they're only six- of course but that's the normal amount I just always want more. It was delicious.
