I would not recommend you go here. Not because their food isn't good. It actually is good (what of it I tried). The problem lies with service. Eating here was one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had, and that says a lot, as we eat out very frequently and at a variety of types of places. The moment we arrived, we could tell that the waiter wasn't just unhappy to wait on us, it seemed like he downright disliked us. Which really made me uncomfortable. But what can you say? I didn't want to make trouble, so I just tried to remain cordial. He was snappy, rude, angry and unhappy the entire time and it seemed to get just worse and worse. Like I almost felt guilty ordering food? It was weird. Things were forgotten (which I mean, this happens when you don't write anything down, why doesn't he have a notepad?). Anyway things are forgotten, and it's blamed on the customer, and things just get even more unpleasant. Like of course we ordered it, we wanted a full dinner, why would we lie about that? I did see another table complain their dessert was forgotten as well, and I am not sure how that was remedied, but they had a different wait person anyway. There was not enough help at the bar area either, and it seems like maybe they need to hire more people, and more competent and pleasant people. I'm sure that's a tall order, but still necessary for a dining establishment. I don't like to post bad reviews, but this was really that bad. read more

Suburban food at San Francisco prices. $22 for 6 oysters that were so poorly shucked they looked like they went through a blender. Mignonette that was so old it had gone wheat colored. I had pretty low expectations so I ordered the $17 chicken Caesar. It had previously frozen chicken on salad that had been burned in a grease fire (terribly acrid). Salad dressing that, based on the shopping bags left out in the kitchen, that came from a bottle purchased at Lunardi's and pre shredded cheese. The tri-tip in my wife's chopped steak sandwich was grey and the brioche bun was stale. 1 extra star for the strong pours of wine. Then again, for $14 a pour from a $25 bottle, it should be. read more

Our first time at Metro, food was ok. I prefer the salmon, at Esin, Revel, and other restaurants better. Our waiter was a young handsome guy but had an attitude from the start when he asked us what we would like to drink . He never refilled our water, or checked with us during our dinner. We had to ask for water and ketchup and he gave us a dismay look . the nice guy who was clearing the plates seemed to had instructions to rush and clear plates mid way as we were still working on appetizers or food . We still left a good tip for the waiter just because it is Christmas! Ambiance was too loud with an infant crying non stop at the next table. Steak & chicken sandwiches very good, Burger so-so including not med rare as ordered. Amazing quantities of great crispy truffle fries with each order. Service very slow, not waiter's fault, too many patrons for staff. Other than the service, we'd hoped for a bigger range of choices on the entrees. The food was average and bland, but the thing that really sets this place apart, in a bad way, is that it's the first time I've ever marked a restaurant down for service while doing takeout. I arrived there to find out that 90 minutes was apparently inadequate time for them to bother to notify me they were out of a dish and then waited nearly 30 minutes more while they cooked what might be the world's slowest medium rare steak. Reader, it was not worth the wait. They do have excellent fries, however. Highly recommend the truffle fries and absolutely nothing else. read more

My wife and I had Thanksgiving lunch there last week. The restaurant is spacious and welcoming. I was happy to see that they left plenty of room between the two-tops. The room we sat in was clean and spacious, with a view to the garden. The bathroom was not luxurious and needs to be updated. The entire staff was courteous, professional, friendly and attentive. We decided not to order the turkey dinner as it left too many chances for disappointment. (Would the turkey breast be dry? Was the dressing some weird thing we weren't used to?, etc) Instead we both ordered the Gnocchi Parisienne with wild mushrooms, butternut squash, brown butter, goat cheese & pumpkin seeds. Had a date night with my wife there and had a not so great experience. It started off well enough l, cute restaurant and a good menu but they were out of some of the main dishes. Not to fret I found something else to order. The appetizer was great but after our server dropped it off we didn't see him again until about 20 minutes after our dinner was dropped off. The steak was grilled to perfection but you could tell it wasn't the greatest cut if meat as it had a ton of gristle. My wife's duck was also good. We had to wait another 20 minutes or so to see our server again to order dessert which came out quickly from another server. Dessert was good. Had to basically throw our credit card at this server so we could pay our bill and leave. Long story short the food was good but this server provided us bad service and made us feel unwelcome. We have been to Metro Lafayette often and for the first time we were really disappointed. Our family of five each had a different issue with our order. The smoked trout on the avocado toast was dry, with hard pieces of trout that had obviously been pulled apart by hand and the "toast" was very thick and blackened. The biscuits with the "chicken and biscuits" came with no butter or anything else. The smoked salmon eggs Benedict came on the smallest, thinnest piece of toast I have ever seen. In all cases the salads lacked any noticeable dressing. The service was spotty at best. Metro do better! read more

I've been coming here for some time now (pre-pandemic), and love this place. It's gotten better in recent years too. Love the vibes most of the time. Consistently great food, excellent and attentive service, and wonderful libations. Coming for the bar? The bartenders aim to please and can get creative for you, if you know what you want. I choose this restaurant to have lunch on a Saturday with 4 of my friends because they had both brunch and lunch options available and their menu looked diverse. We had a reservation but were running ahead of schedule and called to see if we could come earlier and they were accommodating. We had the option to sit inside or in the sunroom. We chose to sit in the sunroom which was actually sort of warm due to the heavy plastic hanging making it an in between from outside (which was way too cold) and inside (which was kind of loud and hectic). It was quiet- we were the only ones in the sunroom. Which was kind nice- some soft music would have been nice though. Two of my friends got salads with chicken and the other with steak, one got fish and chips, one got a kale salad with pumpkin soup and I got the crab salad. The dressing with the fish and chips came with a hair in it which my friend had the server replace. All the salads has a very light vinaigrette on them- which we could barely taste. My crab salad was good because crab is my absolute favorite food, but I felt they could have done more with it. There wasn't much flavor other than the crab and if I happen to get a bit of their citrus lining the plate. I felt a lot of things on the menu were way overpriced. Some brunch items were reasonable. Service was excellent other than taking a little too long to pick up the check. Parking is that crazy Whole Foods lot which is free but beware of the chaos! We had to park all the way in the Safeway lot and walk. Overall this restaurant wouldn't entice me to return with so many other options. read more

COVID 19 review Metro Lafayette has the best outdoor dining set up I've been to since the pandemic. Their large outdoor pation is open, walled off from the wind, and has been there as a part of the restaurant since the beginning. It's not an attempt by a restaurant to make do with outdoor dining. It's very nice. A section of the patio next to the restaurant itself has a large and very tall tent covering. I guess it's to provide some outdoor dining if it's raining. Loved the brussels sprouts appetizer. Enjoyed the caesar salad. Really enjoyed my pork chop. Brined, of course. Loved the The cheese grits were fantastic. Dessert was super too. The strawberry gelato flavor was so intense, you couldn't really tell it was strawberry. The bread pudding was superb. Great service, Free shopping center parking. Yay Metro Lafayette! read more

I took my friend Jonathan here for his birthday and it was amazing! I ordered the Dungeness Crab salad, which had a huge portion of fresh crab. It was so big, I couldn't eat it all. Glad to have the leftovers for lunch. The wine (Tempranillo) was excellent. We finished with the butterscotch pot de cream, which was done just right and plenty for two people. We saw him speeding by the kitchen, yet always composed in the "field"! We had visited Metro many times in the past yet this time it felt a one of a kind experience! The food was delicious. We enjoyed the Caesars salad, the fish tacos, the scallops and the burger which was done as expected... medium rare. Of course, on every visit the truffle fries are a must. As recommended by our server Jairius, the wine pairing was an excellent choice as well as the after dinner cocktails. I am pleased to see the Russian River beer on the menu with two options to choose from! The server made us curios on the delicious deserts that we were too stuffed to try on this visit. I don't recommend the Grilled Thai Chicken Salad. Definitely the worst of its kind. No hint of Thai seasoning, limp Napa cabbage, apple slices that looked like green apple and had no taste. We've been loooong-time, loyal customers here. Today, we went in for brunch and to watch the US Open final. The owner was the only person at an otherwise empty bar, but despite BOTH of us asking separately to watch the Open, the bartender refused to change the channel while the owner continued to chow down his burger and said NOTHING. We went on Mother's Day for brunch, which was a $60 prix fixe menu. We had been years ago for Mother's Day and it was great. We waited at least 15 minutes after being seated for water and attention, our non-alcoholic drinks were blah. At 2:00 pm they had run out of crab for the crab benedict and for the crab salad. We should have left then. The quiche was undercooked, the chicken overcooked. We had to ask for water 3xs. The desserts were just ok. On the way out, another employee asked our waiter if he was coming back (for dinner shift?) and he responded, "Ef no" and I thought, that works for me, too. Never again. read more

He was nice but had to flag him down anytime we needed something including to order, as he didn't check in. My dish was very bland, the pork schnitzel with fingerling potatoes and braised red cabbage. It reminded me of mass produced banquet food. Not worth it for the price. The oysters were pretty good and the wine was reasonably priced. She didn't say that there would be an increased price from &18. to $34.! The manager refused to change the charge. He blamed me for not asking the server the price. We had a wonderful dinning experience here on 6/16/20. All restaurant staff was following COVID19 guidelines and service was outstanding. We have had many great celebrations at Metro in the past and celebrating our anniversary here was one of the best decisions we made considering dinning venues are only open for outdoor dinning right now. I was really looking forward to dining here as they feature an awesome menu with many dishes that look good on paper. Unfortunately the quality of food was extremely disappointing. The Hamachi appetizer consisted of 4 small slices that tasted like low grade fish - certainly not worthy of the high price tag. The entrée portion of petrale sole was about 1/2 as much as you'd get at old-school restaurants in SF, and was hard and overcooked not light and delicate. The bread pudding was bland and weak. The only food items that really looked good were the salads. At this price point, you need to do much, much better. I'll be generous with 2* to reflect the excellent server, though even there I note the busboys came by to snatch plates before people were done. read more

Metro has become our new favorite spot in downtown Lafayette! It's tucked away in the Whole Foods parking lot, attached to Jackson's Wines and Spirits so it can be a little tricky to find at first as it's often easier to see from the street. We seriously have a great time every time we come here! First of all, they have a killer happy hour and the staff is WONDERFUL! We actually recently hosted our Engagement Party there and every single one of our guests was blown away by how incredibly gorgeous the venue was and how attentive the staff was. I would highly recommend the sliders, tacos and the bolognese. All of their pasta is made in house and spectacular so you cannot go wrong there. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great date night spot, happy hour or event space! Truly a wonderful local family business. read more

The Thai Chicken Salad has odd chunks of apples in it and huge long strips of carrots. The apples are not normally in a Thai salad and should be written on the menu in the description. The waitress asked if I wanted to order anything else when I sent it back and had it removed from the check. Nothing sounded appetizing except for the $22 dollar Thai Chicken Salad. If your gonna charge that much for a salad in a small bowl, you better make it Michelin star amazing. read more

Metro Lafayette has been our go-to for special occasions. We hadn't been there since the pandemic, and being that it was my birthday yesterday, I thought it would be the perfect time to return. I could not have been more wrong. Our waiter treated us like we were an afterthought. It was as if my husband telling him it was by birthday made him want to pay less attention to us. We ordered our drinks and the dungeness crab salad to share. The salad came almost immediately. We had to wait for our drinks. I thought we would have the same experience as couples around us who sipped on their drinks and chatted for a while, then came their appetizers and salad. Another couple sat down and were served water almost immediately. We had to look around and find a busboy to ask for water. We finished our drinks before the main course came. Our waiter was no where to be seen to ask if we'd like something else. Usually from my memory of Metro the waiter comes by to see how we're doing, and then we would order a glass of wine. He didn't show up until the end of meal and asked if we wanted coffee or dessert. I couldn't wait to get out of there so we declined. Normally we tip 20% but this time we only tipped 15.% Metro used to be one of my favorite restaurants because of the food AND the service. It was discouraging and sad to be treated this way on my birthday. It will be quite some time before we give Metro another try. read more
