Everything was handled perfectly on all ends, starting with arranging the date and space , the food was delicious and served on time , the servers were lovely (yes they are all cute, it doesn't hurt;) to closing out. My family and I went to Metro for dinner on a Friday night. We sat outside and while the seating area is pretty, that was the only nice aspect of this restaurant. We ordered starters and our meals at the same time. The appetizers came out quickly, however the entrees took absolutely forever. While we were waiting for the entrees the waiter came up to our table THREE separate times telling us the food was almost ready. The first time he approached us (which was already after a long period of time) he said he was going to go check in the kitchen to see what was taking so long. The second time (which was about 10 minutes later) he said there was a mixup in the kitchen with the food and said it should be out in a few minutes, then offered us drinks or a dessert on the house. The third time he came up and said only 2-3 more minutes, which was almost another 10 minutes after his second visit. So at this point from the time we ordered it was close to a 45 minute wait until we got our food. To top off the already insanely long wait, the food was very, very average. We ordered the salmon, ribeye, cod and sole. Salmon: Above average salmon but the risotto was bland and tasteless. Ribeye: Way overcooked and so thin. Could have finished the whole steak in 3 bites. Cod: Just horrible. No flavor. Rubbery. Watery. Sole: Was average. Not horrible, but would never recommend it to someone. For the entrees, 2 appetizers, and 2 drinks, it was a $200 bill. We all agreed we would have been much happier paying double that price at a steak house, to have an amazing meal and leave the restaurant actually happy. Being from Lamorinda, we are always happy to support local businesses. However this experience was a total disappointment. read more

Came in last night for the first time with my girlfriend. So excited wanted to try one of everything we got the soup which was a kabocha squash, and the wonderful tasting Arancini wild mushroom balls, that were great sharing for two. And for our main entrées I had the Parppadelle lamb pasta and my friend had the gnocchi with mushrooms and squash there were just the right amount of veggies so it was not over powering. Came in for lunch yesterday with a friend. Upon entering we were greeted right away by people wearing masks and we asked to be seated outside, the sun was out and felt very comfortable in the open air. I had a chipotle pear cocktail which is served up like a martini it's not too sweet heavy pear flavor, And my friend had the Paloma which He liked because it was made with grapefruit soda. Our server Jarius suggested that we start off with the poke mix And we couldn't have been happier we also found out that the Sesame seed crackers were made in house it's the perfect sharing dish for two. Are maindish was a New York steak which was what's cooked to perfection. The vibes and ambiance of this restaurant are so cute from the outdoor patio to the bar inside. We ordered the oysters, fish, and steak and fries, along with some cocktails. Came in last night for a thanksgiving dinner with the family. Everything was perfect they had a special thanksgiving dinner menu for the evening it was so delicious the scallop potato's were melt in your mouth and the turkey dinner was cooked to perfection. Most of all the restaurant was super busy, but our server Kelly was super attentive and he did not miss a beat. The atmosphere and food here is highly recommended. First visit based on the recommendation of a friend. It's nice being serviced in a professional manner. Our server was friendly, informative, well groomed, and professional; and he didn't rush us to get our orders in. Refreshing given he was perhaps 20 years of age. Food, wine and beer options were quite good - though all were rather pricey in comparison to other restaurants I enjoy. The entire experience was positive. Our meal was comprised of a charcuterie plate, house burger, a fish entree, and a sandwich - accompanied by beer and wines by the glass. I would certainly go back again if in Lafayette. We chose the patio which was quite nice and relaxed during our Sunday visit. Based on this experience I would recommend a visit. read more

Great outdoor space. I like this restaurant very much. It's perfect for brunch with friends and family. It has a bar which does get some action on Fri/Sat nights. If I could give a zero star review this would be it. This place was probably one of the most bizarre dining experiences my wife and I have ever had. We went here for New Years Eve. The hostess was gracious and friendly and we got seated right away (we had reservations). Alas, if only the rest of our experience had been just as good. The first sign of trouble that we were sitting for 10 minutes before anyone came over. Our server walked over and asked "Beer list"? which was bizarre, cause we were dressed up and were looking to have a nice meal. We asked for a couple of glasses of wine and the server was off. Our wines were dropped off. And then we waited, and waited, and waited. We could not tell whether the server was just overloaded with tables or just really bad at his job. But he seemed to have no problem serving other tables. Finally, after about 20 minutes, he walks over. He asks us what we want and my wife goes "I was trying to choose between x and y and wanted your opinion...". But before she could finish, he said brusquely "I'll be back" and walked off while my wife was mid sentence. We were floored. After another 15 minutes of watching him serve other tables we had had it. We got up to leave and I paid the bill (for the 2 wines) when the server finally came back to us. He came back with our check, no apology, no nothing. My wife spoke to the hostess as we were about to leave, who was very apologetic and called a manager. The manager convinced us to remain with the promise that he would be the one to serve us. And he was good to his word, and so was the food. He comped us our appetizers, and I left a big tip for him (equivalent to what the comped food was + the standard 18%) . But we will definitely not be back. No amount of good food can make up for the way we were treated. So tl;dr; The food was really, really good. The service from the original server was really horrible/disrespectful. read more

I threw a retirement shindig for my mentor back in August. We booked half their patio for a wine and apps mixer and overall the function went off without a hitch. This was due to the owner and the staff making sure we had everything we needed for the event including wine, a variety of appetizers and cheese, bread, etc. The day of the staff set aside half the patio (they offered the semi private room inside, but it was a beautiful day) and were able to accomodate 40 or so people. They tended to wine, food and service and there made sure that they took over the hosting, leaving me to tend to the crowd and retiree. Apps included: Truffle fries (soooo good!) Peach and goat cheese crostini Salumi and cheese platter Chicken liver mousse and crostini Warm olives Wine service outside. Bar inside Overall, this was done without a hitch. We didn't order any entrees and can't speak to that, however the apps were all very good. As far as service and space goes, I couldn't have asked for more. My only gripe is the $20 corkage that could, for larger parties be prohibitively expensive if they choose their own wine (which, becuase she was retiring many wanted to donate her fave bottles which weren't on the menu). The owner and I talked about this and negotiated a little, but still way cheaper than an open bar... Cuz these people can drink. Last night I had the Duck Confit with a very reasonably priced Andrew Murray Syrah Wine. Most of the Wines are affordable. The Duck Confit is AMAZING! Also for Dessert the Panna Cotta with the delicious Passion Fruit sauce. Equally AMAZING. If you want some great Cocktails, and excellent Food, Metro is the place to go!! By far my favorite restaurant, I called it my sanctuary and would be there literally every day either before or after work. I would even go to town on my off days just to eat there. The menu changes seasonally and everything was fantastic. Their happy hour menu is killer as well, they switch it up sometimes but they kept the popular ones. What started out as a fun dinner out with friends may go down as the WORST customer service experience I have ever witnessed. From the wait staff all the way to the manager (learning he is the owner). My friends and I were treated with such disrespect after spending almost $300. Rude comments from the bartenders working the bar to being physically assaulted by a male employee. Yes, he physically touched me. What was even more shocking was that a witness stopped to check on us because she and her family were victims at this exact restaurant just a few months back. I placed an online order Monday 4/26 at 2:55 pm and said i wanted it at 3:30 pm it was accepted.They said they would text me .I waited in the parking lot till 3:40 then i went in.I asked if my order was ready and the person behind the bar said no he forgot to look at the computer for an order .He offered me nothing and told me to wait.There were 3 people in the restaurant. Gayle and I hosted dinner here last night for some work colleagues. We had a 6:15 reservation and as some of us arrived early, the service at the bar was friendly and prompt. We also enjoyed the sleek and attractive minimalist decor. Our group of 5 was seated promptly for our reservation out on the patio. It was great to be outside on this very welcoming, well-appointed, and greenery accented patio. The propane heaters also helped take the nip out of the evening air. Our order was taken soon after we were seated and drinks and the salad dishes came out in good time after that. At that point our order and the associated service dropped through the cracks. We waited and waited, until finally our waitress came over and apologized for the delay. She explained that our order got hung up due to a big group order that came out at the same time. Yet looking around, all we saw was a quiet Monday night, a sparsely populated restaurant, and several tables were were seated after us and already enjoying their dinner. The manager then came over a few minutes later and asked if everything was OK, and at that point it dawned on us that the waitresses apology may have been more of a strategic move. Several more minutes (and one more apology) passed, until finally at around 7:45 our meal was served. They comped us a small appetizer for our trouble, but after more than an hour of waiting, the Metro Lafayette dining experience had kind of lost its edge for what should have been a 4-5 Star evening. That's unfortunate as our food was mostly excellent. Our table choices included the rock cod, short ribs, a blue cheese burger, and 2 sets of appetizer combinations. All were delicious and well presented, except for Gayle's grilled prawns, which were cold. She later speculated that they probably sat in the kitchen for awhile, as the rest of our order was misplaced. At the same time, we weren't overly irritated, as we were having great conversation and the Metro ice cream sundaes were a delicious nightcap to our evening. read more

This place is worthy of a milestone review! We met my Dad and Toni here for lunch on Friday after we had been away on vacation for two weeks. This place had gotten such good reviews and after looking at the menu I could easily view online was able to quickly decide it would be a great place! I placed a call to the folks and then made a quick reservation made on OpenTable.com and we were all set. When we arrived for an early lunch, the restaurant was fairly empty but by the time we left it was the exact opposite. We were seated at a nice round table and had great service from a nice young man named Dylan who dealt with all of our questions about the menu and special needs requests with great ease. Toni already did a lovely job at describing our meals. I will just say the burger and fries I had were probably one of the best meals I have had in a long time. The tastes I had of everything else made it easy for me to come back THE VERY NEXT DAY! You see, I liked this place so much that I came here on Saturday for an impromptu early dinner with a girlfriend. We were having coffee across the parking lot at Peet's and when we both realized we were getting hungry (this was around 4pm), I suggested we see if Metro was open. This is probably one of those few places that is open from lunch through late night without closing and I was so glad to find this out. My friend and I like sharing so I recommended two items I had had the day before and we shared soup, duck confit egg rolls, and garlic fries. I also had a wonderful glass of Riesling and we shared a meyer lemon dessert. The dessert was good but does not compare to Esin here in Danville. Again, the service was excellent, this time by Jaimie. We were treated graciously and well and the manager chatted with us for a long bit. So, I still like Metro. Actually, I really like Metro. They have a fantastic patio for dining al fresco in the inland Summer heat. They have a fabulously well-stocked bar. The food is pretty great. They have a lovely weekend brunch menu (the crispy chicken sandwich is delicious). I'm not a fan of the fact that their already inflated prices for some items seem to have practically doubled since my last visit (last Summer) - the tuna poke is now almost $15 (the portion also seems to have gotten smaller, and the cuts aren't as clean as they used to be - I was served some connective tissue and a chunky bloodline the last time I ordered it...boo on that), and their signature miso black cod is an insane $26 and change. Service has always been friendly, but can be a little scatterbrained and slow at times. I am also now in a position to appreciate the baby/child-friendliness of so many restaurants on the other side of the tunnel. Grandma lives in Lafayette and I called to tell her I was taking her to a fancy dinner at Metro. I picked up my hot date at 6:30, and she jumped off the couch: Hair did, fully accessorized, rouged, stocking'ed, and purse on arm. Nonnie wasn't PLAYIN' -- she didn't get nearly this dolled up for our last date to Chipotle and The Other Boleyn Sister. We headed to the restaurant, which I remember from my youth being a dark, stuffy French restaurant in the middle of a Lucky's parking lot. Now, we walked in and it was a light, airy, modern, Dwell magazine-stravaganza with the sounds of OM Lounge Volume 3 emanating from every orifice. We sat on the lovely patio, which was filled with some other confused white-haired early birds, young couples with tiny kids, and also some random high schoolers in Uggs, tube dresses and their parents' credit cards. Nonnie had a look at the menu and let me tell you, SHE DID NOT MIND IF SHE DID. A glass of white wine to start? Why not! Bruschetta with roasted summer vegetables and goat cheese? Yes! Green salad? Eff it, I'm old and need my vegetables! Roasted chicken with potato galette and broccoli rabe? Indeed! Creme Brulee? I'm 83, let's make this happen people! So let it be known, I have not seen Nonnie put away food like that, in, ummm, never? I'm used to the woman having a dainty bowl of soup and maybe a plum for dessert and then washing every dish in the entire house, cleaning the refrigerator, and then starting a load of laundry just for kicks. Honestly, I am not sure how she has sustained existence for this long on that diet. So $120 for two was a small price to pay to see my grandma so full that she didn't even think about watering her plants, refolding the newspaper, or organizing her coupons for a FULL 30 MINUTES after she got home!!! read more

Appearances can be deceiving! This place has a great look, ultra modern and lots of room. The hostess was the best; she got us seated at a very busy time, with no reservation. From there it was all downhill; the servers don't know their menu items, especially the wine list. The food was overpriced and nothing special. I had the chicken (which was under cooked) served with some rubbery mushrooms. The staff act like they're unhappy with their jobs and after meeting the manager I understand why! He was the worst, cocky and unapproachable. He walked up to the table and said" So I hear you want to talk to me". Really, this is how you speak to your customers? He didn't listen to my concerns and was even argumentative. This place could benefit from some customer service classes. Complaints are an opportunity for a business to learn something and improve their customer service. A lesson that has clearly been lost on this place. heartell metro's location used to be a post office. with the usps closing many branches soon, expect new eateries to pop up in your hood soon. the bar is spacious and peers into the open kitchen. a few rows of tables buffer the bar area and the patio which has a manificient view of flowing traffic on mt. diablo blvd. thanx to cara y. for the headsup here and likewise to matt m. for the culinary warnings. fine dining -organic white corn w/roasted red peppers relish(5.50, billed at 7) nice hints of corn and roasted pepper flavors in soup. -wild fish taco with salsa verde, avocado, limes, creama & mixed greens (10.95):2 fresh soft tacos but the fish and taco was bland. -miyosake black cod with scallion rice cake, tempera mushrooms, mizuno & ponzu, (19.95): nice sesamed oil salad, mushroom tempura was tasty, roasted rice cake was interesting and crunchy, black cod was fresh and flaky but had a awkward taste as well as a. fishy aftertaste. generous serving of black cod. mixed feelings here. -italian roasted coffee(2.95) strong bodied coffee, not bitter. good tasting black coffee. doing the uptown -dining at bar, inside restaurant or on the patio -immaculate, friendly, leisurely, animated service -nice patio for dining, evenings have heat lamps available -food is inconsistent, flashes of ingenuity with blandness, and clashing flavors -would repeat with the servers but not the food. -here nothing but raves for the pricey bar. read more

Review based on QUALITY CONTROL / CLEANLINESS (LACK OF) I live in Lafayette and I do like coming here for the food and atmosphere. I'm writing this review so that someone over there at Metro will listen to what I have to say. Like I said, the food is great but there is one thing that I find unpleasant and that is the cleanliness of their glassware. On the past 3 visits, I have found my water glass to have lipstick markings on the rim...GROSS!!! Not only on my cup but on my friend's as well. Please Metro....please take some time and wash your cups! At a well-to-do establishment like yours, your staff should really look at what they are serving their drinks in. All it takes is for someone to wipe that lipstick off when cleaning! Arrived with an Open Table reservation & was given a miserably small table, next to a very nice family with happily noisy children on an evening with loads of empty tables. Waited about ten minutes with lots of wait staff passing by. We finally asked someone if we had a waiter. He was kind enough to take our order. Food was quite good. Not a good brunch spot. Met a friend here for brunch today. I ordered the chilaquiles verde. It took a while to get our food. It must've been siting in the kitchen because it came to the table stone cold. They weren't busy at all so I'm not sure why this oversight occurred. Now the food. Ugg! My two poached eggs were fine. It came on a mushy mushy bed of 30 tortilla chips. It was like they had poured the poached egg water in the bowl. And the chicken was one strip ripped off of a chicken leg with get this the cartilage and part of the bone attached. All in all less than 1 oz of meat! The guacamole tasted store bought. There are so many great restaurants in the Bay Area don't waste your Sunday brunch here. Not worth it. read more

Dinner Review: The service is Excellent. The wait staff is attentive and accommodating. The food is So, So. This place strikes me as mostly a location with a great staff. I had the Black Cod over noodles, as I was told it is one of the most popular. The whole dish had one central flavor; the skin. The noodles didn't add anything nor did the rest of the fish, but at that price point I took that bite of skin and savored it. My wife got the short rib on cold polenta or at least that's how they serve the dish. I've read many reviews and it seems like their lunch game is strong, but our dinner was nothing to rave about. read more

I chose Metro because it said the noise level was "average" as I've been to some very noisy restaurants lately. I was seated initially at an indoor table and found the noise level deafening. I asked to move to a quieter area and was seated in the tented area. It did start off quieter but the noise level quickly escalated. The other problem with this area was the heater blowing on my legs throughout dinner which was way too hot. I didn't want to ask to move again and all tables were full so I just tried to ignore how hot and uncomfortable I felt. I couldn't wait to leave. The pear salad was just okay. My #1 draw to Metro is the Chef - Steve Jaramillo. He has an impressive bay area resume and he's all about putting out food that is high quality, seasonal, beautiful and delicious. Servers are casual but overall gracious and well trained. I love the wide range of hours. I've stopped in for dinner, happy hour (nice oyster special - yum!) and later night drinks. Love the fire place in the dining area and I look forward to hanging on the patio area during the summer. read more

Finally, an upscale restaurant that hits the mark on both food and atmosphere. Other attempts in the area fail miserably in one of the two. Metro is the answer! Their brunch is excellent and I would highly recommend it. Lunch is great as well - but be prepared for the 'Real Housewives of Lamorinda' crowd during the week. With a full bar (excellent cocktails), beautiful spacious patio, and cozy seating indoors near a fireplace, Metro has it all.
