From going the first time to a second time, they did make some (less) than positive changes to their format: - price went up from $20 to $25 - there used to being pizzas to the table, as part of the event. The second time we went ,no pizza was included and you had to purchase separately. My thoughts on the food: - pizza looks good, but on this night, it wasn't too great of pizza at all. Pizza: Some of our friends, ate a piece of each pizza they ordered. ...and the rest (they left) on the table. And that should (tell you) all you need to know. - Mac & cheese. We are driving from NY to AZ! This is EXACTLY what we needed! The food is incredible, the vegan veggie pizza was superb, you'd never know it was vegan, outstanding! My husband loved the chicken parmigiana, crispy flavorful outside, soft juicy inside topped with a delicious tomato sauce and pastas! 1/2/26 The wait staff was Excellent & the Place was really nice. But I ordered the wood fired Ben & Dana vegan pizza which had no cheese, sauce or hummus on it. It was very dry. The pizza itself looked beautiful but the veggies were not cooked & was almost like raw veggies on crust. I didn't say anything because it was a company dinner. If I could give this place more stars I would have! I had the pleasure of dining here over New Years Eve. I was thinking our service would suffer but our waiter, Brady, did not disappoint and he was fantastic. It was busy but you wouldn't know it because the service was not affected. I was craving a good cut of beef so I ordered the prime rib! It was luscious, best place to go for steak in Springfield don't be fooled by any competitors! Our waiter told me that the prime rib is marinated in a special blend and I could sure tell! The taste was all the way through without compromise to the natural juiciness of this high quality cut! It was served with al dente risotto (good on you guys you served it the right way!). It also came with fresh and not over cooked green beans. We were driving back to Austin from Chicago and we were road worn and this meal hit the spot and it had the eyes rollling to the back of my head effect! My husband had a filet mignon, He ordered from Brady's recommendation and he was also very impressed! In Texas we know good cuts of meat and how it's supposed to be prepared and this was outstanding. For an app we got the flash fried spinach. W-O-W, seriously! We also shared a crab cake (ummm fresh fresh fresh) You can tell this place takes such good care of their patrons from drinks to appetizers to entrees and for a special treat on New Years Eve everyone got a high quality glass of champagne. We didn't have room for anything sweet at the end unfortunately. The place was buzzing and the clientele were festive and the wait staff so professional. The owner visited tables and asked how our experience was along with other tables, so yeah he cares. This is a dress nice for special occasion place but you can dress more comfortably in the bar area and order a house made pizza. The prices reflected the quality. The drinks were also fantastic and when done with dinner we mingled in the bar area with great folks. I would say, our second time through Springfield on the way home, was a treat and we can't wait to see Brady again on our next trip through at this gem of a restaurant/grill! This review I'm leaving a 4 not 5 star review only to point out my observations not necessarily as critical but merely my own thoughts and possibly same as others ... First and foremost the positives Server was awesome and food delicious! My observations, It is a little off putting that servers walk through the new waiting area with patrons food orders, and feels a bit off walking through the pizza kitchen to be seated in Sherries happy Place. We had been told By staff that it was a speak easy vibe there, but instead it was very brightly lit space with semi loud pop music playing. These again are just my observations and opinions. I think I prefer the restaurant seating area and it's more romantic feel and will definitely return again for the fabulous food. read more

Happened upon Metropolitan Grill. Looking to get dinner. It was later than we prefer to eat and we weren't starving. So we shared an appetizer and entree. The parking lot was full so pleasantly surprised they were able to seat us right away. The staff all were very welcoming and loved the decor. As for the food: The shrimp cocktail was ok ... good texture large shrimp, but i agree with my husband's review the sauce was ok. Would prefer cocktail sauce with horseradish. Our entree was seabass this artichoke...love it. Our side was mushroom risotto, and it was so salty only ate couple bites of my half. Husband ate his half, but it made him feel bit sick. This is hands down our new favorite restaurant in Springfield. We went for my 24th birthday to treat ourselves to a nice dinner. The service was incredibly friendly, I wish we had caught our waitress' name because I'd love to give her a shoutout on here. We started with the yoakem and it was DELICIOUS! The steak bites were so tender and cooked perfectly. In between our appetizer and our meal they brought out dinner rolls. DO NOT SKIP THESE! Some of the best free bread we've ever had! It's served with honey butter and also a spice blend, both were absolutely wonderful! We both got steaks that were cooked perfectly, and you could literally cut the steaks with a butter knife. We sat inside where there were private, quiet booths to eat it. It also looked like there was a bit louder side with TVs and more open seating. 10/10 would recommend! Treat yourself! read more

I had a great dinner here. Friendly, approachable service, an eclectic menu with everything from tamales and seafood pozole to steaks. I started with the McCoy cakes with walleye from Lake Michigan, sweet peas, and carrots. They were tasty. Two to an order. I thought they might be too burnt when they came out but they tasted fine and had a good crust. The complimentary bread rolls with the tomato vinegar concoction and honey butter were great (though perhaps a tad doughy on the inside though I still enjoyed them). The Thompson tenderloin was great--very tender, cooked perfectly medium rare. The mashed potatoes that came with it were great and I appreciated the sautéed diced zucchini and peppers, and the crab cake add on was fine. My dining companions enjoyed their Stephanie Seabass and Salmon entrees. All in all, a great dinner. I'd be back and I'd recommend it! read more

Lessons learned: When you order a steak from here, you're paying a premium price for a low-quality meal. I ordered a Ribeye and received a steak that looked like a New York Strip. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I took a bite to make sure. Immediately, I knew it was a NY strip. It was tough and lacked the flavor of a ribeye. I asked the staff to replace it with a new steak. Staff refused. They insisted it was a ribeye. They said it was an end piece, which is why it was tough and flavorless. Either they served me the wrong steak or they served me a flavorless, tough, end piece. The facts are: I paid a premium price for a low-quality meal. I did not eat another bite of the steak. I paid for it and I did not ask for anything else in return. I learned a lesson about this restaurant and it is one I will share with others. read more

It's pricey. It's not terribly high, but it's up there. My daughter made reservations for graduation day here, she thinks I'm made of money. I had a cocktail (Manhattan) which was delicious and served just right. Our appetizers (a seared tuna dish,and their "famous" flash-fried spinach), were both tasty and sized well for our group (7 adults). When it came to the entree's I think everyone was happy with their selections. My daughter had the sirloin tips, I had the Walleye, both were great. She wanted a steak and I managed to steer her away from the $58 fillet (are you kidding me?) to the $22 sirloin tips which were very good. The service was prompt, attentive, and responsive, in fact we updated our appetizer order to double the size of the tuna and they pivoted to deliver that as requested, always appreciate that kind of flexibility (without making us wait forever). read more

My wife and I spent an evening here for Valentine's Day weekend. I'd heard about Metro many times over the years, but had never been until now. My wife had graced their doors before, but not in a long, long time. Making reservations was easy, and they called to confirm a few hours before our scheduled time. When we arrived, we were promptly shown to our table. Our server, Kari, was one of the highlights of the evening. Not only was she friendly, but she was also humorous, no-nonsense without being aggressive, and incredibly knowledgable (when asked what was in their special bread-dipping sauce, she was able to list off the plethora of ingredients). She even offered to take a picture of the two of us at the end of the meal. She definitely earned her tip. I knew that Metro was known for its flash-fried spinach, so for appetizers, we got a half-order of that and a half-order of the "Dad," which were a couple of ribeye meatballs filled with cheese and served in a red sauce. The meatballs were good, but that flash-fried spinach was AMAZING. And I'm not a big fan of spinach; usually, the extent of my spinach-eating involves spinach & artichoke dip. Tossed in garlic and parmesan and drizzled with lemon, it was simply melt-in-your-mouth delicious. My wife ordered a half order of the Dr. Coger Salmon, and I decided to try an off-menu special they had, which was an 8oz Wagyu ribeye with shrimp. Unfortunately, because it was Valentine's Day weekend, which meant they were very busy, they did not have all of their normal sides available to choose from. Every meal came with the smoked Gouda mashed potatoes and haricot verts (aka "green beans"). It's not what I wanted (I was hoping to get the risotto and fries), but I'm a fan of mashed potatoes and green beans in general, so it wasn't a huge deal. My steak was phenomenal. I always order medium-rare, and that can result in a lot of different steaks depending on the cook's own opinion of what constitutes a good, medium-rare steak, but this was a perfect example of how a medium-rare steak should look. We've eaten at Flame many times for our anniversary dinner, and while they do have fantastic steaks, none of them ever came out this nice. Perhaps part of it can be chalked up to the Wagyu beef, and I can't say if their normal steaks come out looking or tasting this nice, but regardless, it was one of the best steaks I've ever had. The only better steak I can recall having came from Ruth's Chris. The 2 shrimp that accompanied it were huge and tasty. Just the right amount of surf to go with my turf. My wife enjoyed her salmon as well, and the chai dijon sauce it came with was an excellent pair to the fish. I will say that the portion size for the sides seemed disproportionately small. I get they want to make the plate look fancy, but each of us only received 4 green beans as a side. Granted, they were long, so perhaps they were equivalent to 8 regular-length green beans, but they're also thin, so it just didn't seem like much. Likewise, the amount of the mashed potatoes seemed lacking. Perhaps because of the smaller portions, we had enough space at the end of the meal that we decided to opt for some dessert, which is something we rarely do. There was either a chocolate torte with raspberry compote, or a sopapilla cheesecake slice. We chose the cheesecake and are so glad we did! Though we didn't get a picture of it, it was a decadent treat covered with gooey caramel and cinnamon, and we devoured it fairly quickly. Overall, this was a great dinner, with good ambiance, a wonderful server, and excellent food. The only things keeping me from giving this place a full 5 stars would be portion size and price. With two half-appetizers, two meals (one of which was a half order), one drink each (a glass of wine and a beer), dessert, tax, and a well-deserved tip, we dropped $170 for 2 people. Yes, Wagyu beef is expensive, but it shouldn't be that expensive. We don't normally throw that kind of money around for a dinner, but it was a special occasion (and with a 9-month-old, we don't get those often). We will definitely keep Metro Grille in the pocket though for future occasions like anniversary dinners. read more

I ordered the Alexis, which is 6oz lobster tail with shrimp, scallops and calamari covered in a béchamel sauce. How can that be bad?! Trust me, it was. Nothing was seasoned. The scallops were not only bland but kind of mushy and grainy. The sauce was also flavorless. I was beyond disappointed. The only protein that had any taste was the lobster and all the flavor came from the grill. Maybe they make other dishes better. Let's start off by stating the obvious. This is one of the few cougar bars in Springfield. When you walk in you are faced with the decision to either go left to the bar and surround yourself with desperation or go to the right for a mediocre fine dining experience. I have dined here several times over the years and really have never had a memorable meal here. This place stays profitable by having a loyal happy hour crowd that frequents this establishment as a sort of status symbol. It's in the cash cow phase of its life span as it really doesn't have to try too hard to win new business. I would put this in the $$$ to $$$$ category as the menu is upper priced casual to fine dining in presentation but simply lacks in flavor and execution.
