The food and service for 12 was amazing! I moved away from the Bay Area, but my Moms fav Mexican food place for their chicken burrito famosa! I have been going here for some years and while I do like some of the atmosphere the service is sometimes spotty. The last time there was a band outside and Hornitos tequila had a booth and was giving free shots. I will say that the food is a bit pricey for the quality. The quantity is always really good. But they tend to overcook things. The octopus was really dry and rubbery. The pork was dry. And generally we avoid it unless you are having lots of drinks...there is a bar. The more you drink the less you care about the food! We might be back to check in, but there is better out there to be had. read more

First time here with family. Party of six. We were seated right away. Place is not too big and very cozy. Female server was very nice and answered all our questions. Drinks were delicious. Food was good. Portions were big. Burritos were so big that no one could finish. Complimentary salsa and chips were appreciated. My son ordered a hot chocolate which looked and tasted good. Enchilada and taco combination was delicious ($22). Entrees are expensive. We spent $250 excluding tip which included five entries, one appetizer and three drinks. Overall, everyone had a good time. My boyfriend and I were craving Mexican food and stumbled upon this location. We got seated immediately and it did seem to be pretty busy inside! Our waiter was friendly and attentive as well. I ordered the combination plate of the shredded chicken enchiladas and asada burrito with rice and beans. The burrito was good but I was not a big fan of the other items. My boyfriend ordered the grilled chicken nachos and he really enjoyed them. Overall, it was pretty basic Mexican food and wasn't as flavorful as I was expecting. I was recommended this place by a friend who lives in Fremont...coming from the L.A. area, I feel I know good Mexican food...this place is amazing...the chile verde is amazing! Also, the bartender puts love into every drink he makes. I wasn't planning on having a Mango Margarita but after watching him make a few drinks, I had to have one and it was on point. I went here with my coworkers, and the food was what I would expect from a Mexican restaurant. The flavors were decent, and the dressing and meat were pretty good. Tonight when I went there at 4 PM on a Friday evening they told me they had $1 house margaritas and Michelob during happy hour. My friends and I proceeded to order seven margaritas and I was presented for a bill for $88 for the margaritas. When I complained and asked about the happy prices, they said, " Oh no that's just $2 off per margarita." Because there's no happy hour menu, you would think the servers would know the happy hour prices and items offered. Server was Guille. Be aware that appetizers and margaritas are only $2 off the published price during happy hour. This was a very expensive night out for me. read more

Showed up here on Cinco De Mayo and the place was packed! I can see why. The food was excellent, service was responsive, and fresh tortilla chips refilled on request makes anyone happy. Even though the place was packed, they sat us IMMEDIATELY. The menu had good variety, and I wasn't mad about the price point either. This was the second time I had Mexican Food during the weekend, and the meal here was OUTSTANDING. Fresh oysters; cucumber with tajin. My one complaint, my enchiladas were bursting with crab (that was a bit fishy tasting). I was hoping for an ooey, gooey, cheesy mixture. But next time I'll simply get the cheese enchiladas. Lesson learned! And guacamole had giant chunks of avocado. It was good, but I'm not entirely sure it was $12 worth of good. You can be the judge. read more

My family and I always stop by for their Mariscada for two! It's a plate filled with a mix of seafood. The flavor is delicious and very spicy! Their margaritas are delicious too! They have a bar inside and TV's throughout as well as some cool paintings. We love to celebrate birthdays here because they all sing for you and treat you with a complimentary dessert! They're typically busier on weekends in the evening and there's sometimes a wait, but it goes by pretty quickly! Only thing I don't really like is that it's pretty small inside so it gets crowded easily. read more

What ever happened to customer service???? Unfortunately, it's hard to find these days. Businesses like Mexico Tipico let their customers walk away unhappy and they just don't care. We have been to this place three times. The first time was great, and the server was very attentive and friendly. The second time, we had a problem with the person seating us. She had attitude because we asked if we could sit at a different table as she was seating us. We were also charged for an extra order of corn tortillas when we had no idea there was a charge. The third time, I asked the server if she could bring us extra tortillas for fajitas because there was not enough tortillas to satisfy the serving. She told me that there would be a charge. I refuse to support a restaurant that nickels and dimes their customers. For the price we are paying, it should not be a problem to get a few extra tortillas. I will not return to this restaurant again. The service is not acceptable and although the food is okay, it is too pricey especially when I can make it for a fraction of the price at home. read more

I have been to this location twice and had different experiences both times. The first time we came here was 4 of us, food wasn't horrible, it was solid but nothing spectacular. The second time we came was with 5 people and an infant. The restaurant is small and not really stroller friendly. That may have been our mistake, thinking we couldn't bring a stroller. We went for dinner on a Friday around 4:30 and it wasn't too busy, we did get seated right away, but service was slow. This time food was subpar, the price and quality of our meal didn't match up. There was a hair on my food, I brought it up to our server and when she took my dish back, a few employees seemed to be examining dish and one particular employee was looking at our table with an unpleasant look on her face. They brought my dish out when everyone else was done with their meal. I felt like fixing their mistake and making sure I got my meal quick would have been a priority but that was not the case. I was disappointed. Upon receiving our bill, I noticed there was service fee applied. Usually restaurants will charge a service fee for a party of 6 or more, if they counted the infant as one I feel like that is a little ridiculous as they didn't serve my infant. But it was for parties of 5 or more it makes sense, I wouldn't know which it was as it wasn't listed anywhere obvious what the service would be or for how many people. For how expensive our meal was, service was lacking, food was mediocre, and overall our experience was unpleasant. I feel like a little more attention to detail and transparency could go a long way. First time here! I can't believe I've never been here before. Hubby goes here whenever he goes out to dinner with a few of his colleagues. It's a cute spot. They definitely have the bar area popping. They also have an outdoor area. Lively little spot. It's a perfect restaurant to hangout with friends and not worry that people can hear your conversations lol. I ordered their Piña Colada and their Shrimp Soft Taco. Both were good. I love salsa and theirs was good but a little on the spicy side. Our waitress was ok. She was kind of on a rush. I have been coming to Mexico Tipico for like 15 years. From when it was at the other location on Horner Street to now. Their food is always delicious and never disappoints! The service is always friendly and attentive. The location isn't very big, but the outside patio helps a lot. Their portions are good sizes and the flavor and quality are things that cannot be beat. Hands down one of my favorite enchiladas rojas ever. We often take our family who visit from out of town here and they always rave about this place and want to have it every time they come back. read more

Even before the pandemic, it was a bit pricier than other places but it's pretty consistently yummy and the staff has been there forever so it's nice to rely on good service and good food and pay a little extra to ensure those things. Came here for a birthday party, party of 14. We had reservations, was told we won't be seated until the whole party has arrived. Once we checked in the hostess kelp asking is everyone here yet we have another party that need the same table. Keep in mind we checked in at 5:30pm and the reservation was for 6pm. But once we were seated, the sever was very nice and helpful. Didn't rush us at all. The 2 dish I ordered were, Birria Tacos w/ consommé and Tomales w/ Rice. I used to love ordering from Mexico Tipico when I lived in Union City. Friday night I was visiting family in Union City and I was excited that we decided to order from Mexico Tipico. My nephew picked up the order and when he got home I noticed that they did not give me 2 bottled sodas. No big deal I called and asked if I could get a refund. This is where things took a horrible turn. The phone gets passed around to about a million people finally a woman gets on the phone and says NO I cannot have a refund. Taken back by her response I asked why not and the phone hangs up. Now I'm mad. I call back and ask to speak to someone in charge. I guy named Efren gets on the phone. I inform him of my desire to get a refund for two expensive $5 bottles of soda that were not added in my order Efren says OK no problem puts the phone down only to come back and tell me no He cannot give me a refund because no one who knows how to do it is working he would only be able to refund my whole order . . . by this point that was not a bad idea. So he starts offering suggestions and tells me if I come back tomorrow the manager will be working and maybe then he can give me a refund or give me 2 bottles of soda. By then I realized they got me for $10. I normally would have gone back and got my refund if I still lived out there. But because I now live in Santa Clara County it would cost me more than $10 had a drove all the way to Union City and back. Won't be going back to Mexico Tipico until all the staff that engage in taking money learn how to give a refund and since I know that will never happen I won't be back. I did a pickbup order and I was surprised I was charged a convenience fee and carry out fee. Ording online was a bit of a hassle. The food did not describe what came on it so when you went to customize your order one selection grayed out any other customizations. I also had no idea on when my food would be ready. There were no notifications and I had to go by the generic timeframe that was automatically generated. My food was lukewarm by the time I at it and my house is less than 10 minutes away. The burrito I ordered was ok but the tamale was the worst thing. It was dry and even though they tried to hide that fact by smothering it in sauce I couldn't eat it. Ridiculous how well they do with that many options. I've never been disappointed eating anything here so far. Read some negative reviews on the bad service, I disagree. This is a busy place, just expect that walking in (and yet service is still almost always fast and attentive!); also a lot of work to maintain a standard of scratch, fresh food. I see a lot of negative feed back about the customer service...which is really just because this place is so good and busy! We went here on taco tuesday and it was packed. Just try to to order everything all at once and you should be fine. Whats to hate about delicious tacos for $2.50?!? I left my credit card at the restaurant and the staff kept it safe for me and I picked it up the next day. I will definitely be coming here again with my friend and family. Mexico Tipico is a nice local restaurant located in Union City right off of the boulevard. They have an outdoor seating section with heaters. I know this place can get really busy on weekend nights. The restaurant is clean and welcoming. The staff is nice and usually recommends items on the menu. The food is outstanding here. I've never had a complaint on anything I've ordered here. The shrimp plates are great and the steak plates. The portions are big and you won't leave feeling hungry for sure. They have a variety of drinks and a nice bar located in the middle of the restaurant. All in all great establishment. My only negative to say is that on weekend nights, it's a bit unorganized and the staff is running around like Crazy. But must give this place a try! read more
