It finally started cooling down outside after "Second Summer" in the bay. Perfect timing for lunch to just enjoy the weather but definitely loving the vibe. They were serving a party of 30 outside, too and they gave us a heads up that food might take longer than usual due to that party outside and that was fine. Woulda been perfect time to have a margarita while we waited but I unfortunately still had to work. Food, as always, is delicious here. Rarely would I ever experience hit or miss here. Just be patient with the staff as there is only a few of them to go around and so many tables to cover. We've become regulars here so we are slowly trying everything on the menu. Great Mexican food in Union city! Off of Alvarado-Niles Blvd. Right next door to the nakamura Washington clinic. The outdoor seating area was packed & that's always a good sign. Called for pick up, took about 20-25 minutes. Moms wanted nachos with chicken & no beans, I wanted beans so half beans it was Carne asada super burrito to share & chicken quesadilla for the little. Very tasty, mom said lots of meat! Yum , burrito flavorful & topped with guacamole & sour cream, pickled carrots that are so delicious. No complaints from the little about her quesadilla. My boyfriend and I have gone twice to Mexico Tipico and absolutely love it! We went earlier today, he got the enchiladas rojas and I got camarones al mojo de ajo. The cooks never fail to deliver delicious food! All the waitresses are very polite, and kind. The inside of the restaurant includes a bar with an extensive drink menu, the music inside is never too loud so you can actually have conversations, and there are TV's for sports. I'm getting disappointed with the food. We have gotten catered food from Mexico tipico, and each time it seems it's getting worse. Enchiladas are stuffed with plain boiled chicken, so is the flautas. Everything tasted really bland. When we washed for queso fresco, the server was hesitant to give it to us. A few times I've had Parmesan cheese rather than the crumbly cheese.. i thought that was strange but it seems they're cutting corners.. the cheese enchiladas, it tasted like string cheese... and it looked like it was string cheese.. i couldn't finish my food.. it just didn't taste the same as I've had it before.. very disappointed. read more

My sister and I ate here earlier today. The food is extremely mediocre, while the drinks are just not it. I ordered a margarita and it was extremely too sweet. I felt as though I was drinking syrup, and couldn't taste a drop of alcohol. My sister ordered grilled chicken nachos, and they gave her shredded chicken nachos. What made me decide to NEVER eat here again was the lack of accountability our waiter had. I ordered enchiladas verdes, which is known to have green sauce. He leaves to go talk to our actual waiter and then comes back to our table to tell me how our waiter said that I wanted red sauce. I also have no reason to lie, especially when I know what i asked for and my sister also heard what I asked for. I don't even like red sauce, so I would never even ask for that. I reserved a table to celebrate my son's 21 birthday a week before his big day, he was really looking forward to eat and have his first drink and celebrate with some of his friends. When I reserved the table I specifically asked to get accommodated in back of the restaurant area, and had arrangements with a group of musicians for 7:15 to sing him happy birthday, but unfortunately when we got to the restaurant we were told someone made a mistake while writing down the reservation for the following day, so I requested to get another table and was told table was going to be ready in a few minutes, after a while I asked for update and was told the table was already booked for another group of people and they didn't have place to accommodate our group, so I asked to speak with the person in charge and here comes Nancy, with her attitude and rudeness telling me it was not her problem that someone made a mistake while writing down the reservation, and supposedly she didn't have a place for us after our long wait of at least 45 minutes. So sadly we were not accommodated and we left to have our little gathering somewhere else. Luckily that other place treated us with very nice, and the group of waitresses got all together and sang happy birthday to my son. Please don't reserve or make plans at this place for big groups, chances are they're going to ruin your special day. read more

We yelped this place and looked through the reviews as well as the pictures of the food. Everything we saw looks amazing. We drove here; which isn't far from the house, but waiting at the light to make a U-Turn, the restaurant looks closed from the outside. Thankfully I turned into the parking lot otherwise i wouldn't have known that it was actually open. The restaurant is pretty dead and so far the service is not the greatest. We were seated quickly and given chip n salsa but no one asked for our drink menu until we flagged someone down and she came across a little rude at first but was ready to take our food order prior to asking if we wanted anything to drink. I personally feel this place is overpriced for their items. I ordered the Mariscada for one and it came out flavorless. I had to put my own hot sauce on it since it didn't come out the kitchen that way. I never had to do that with this type of dish. The food got cold waiting forever for the tortillas to come out. I was giving this place a 3 star until this dish. Not only was it flavorless; the seafood was over cooked. The octopus was very chewy and the shrimp couldn't be peeled because it was over cooked too much! Went there on Thursday afternoon. We were seated right away. We ordered appetizer plate , fajitas combo , seafood platter and churro ice cream. It was a relaxing atmosphere but the service was efficient. We didn't have to wait for long to have all our foods served at the table. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. The server came to check on us couple times to see if we need anything . The overall dining experience was good and enjoyable. A Union City staple , many customers go back to the old Alvarado location. They moved across town and interestingly enough across the street from the "other" big Mexican restaurant in town. I like this venue as opposed to their across the street competitor but the food here is just a solid 3 for me. Prices have gone up substantially as others have noted but the venue is much nicer than the older spot and has a nice outdoor patio as well. If you like my reviews, consider "following" my profile for reviews all across the SF Bay Area . Why "follow" someone? Generally, it's been good over the years I have had it. Gf family and I go here multiple times a month usually, because we like it. But getting down to it; This place has spotty food and service. We've ignored things like the slow service in the past, but this time we did not get what we ordered. It's likely we got someone else's custom order, and got charged for it. This was actually one of the first places we ate that allows eating indoors . We asked for a table that was close to the band and we were denied (we were willing to wait) . So rating the service it had to be a 6/10 due to the lack of presence. THE FOOD: The food here is okay. I wouldn't put this on my top 10 bit it is a nice place to fix a craving. The presentation was very poor for my burrito and my michellada came incorrectly. I stated that the shrimp was compt , but after seeing others with what I should have had , the drinks looked completely different.I ended up constructing it how it should have been (for the pictures) FINAL VERDICT: I think that the staff os overwhelmed and it shows , I will definitely go back sometime but not in the near future. In my top 10 Best Mexican restaurants. I grew up on home cooked Mexican food, so I feel like I speak with authority. I had the Chili Colorado, which I loved. My biggest "tell" at a Mexican restaurant are the beans and rice. If they're good, most often, the rest of the meal will be. Mexico Tipico didn't disappoint. There were 4 in our party. And if you've lived in Union City for as long as we have, don't be surprised if you run into familiar faces here. Today we ordered a lengua burrito and birria tacos. They do not skimp on size. The burrito was as long as my arm (from wrist to elbow) but thicker. The birria tacos had me reminiscing about Puerto Vallarta...where I first fell in love with birria tacos on a food tour. Service here has definitely gone downhill or has been non existent. We ordered enchilada verdes for pick up and we received slop on a plate. The entire enchiladas were covered in beans and we had to scrape the beans off to the side to even see / get to the enchiladas. I was careful to hold the plate flat as well, but came home to this photo. Lesson learned is to open up the tightly packed plastic bag and check the contents of the meal before leaving. I will start by saying I was a regular at this place when they were at the old location in Old Alvarado and still frequent there pretty regularly - not like before, but a decent amount. New location is great, convenient and lots of parking. The restaurant has a nice, bright feel with gorgeous photos/murals inside. Bar is nice and festive. Actual space isn't huge when you walk in, but there is a back room as well as outdoor seating. Taco Tuesdays are the absolute best. Drinks are delicious and strong. The pricing has definitely increased since their move. But I feel like the ambiance is pretty worth it. It would be 4 stars, but the service is inevitably super slow, regardless of whether they are busy or not. It's not that they're rude...just slow, again no matter how busy or how much staff is there. I would still recommend them, especially if you're having a social meal and do not mind sitting for some time. Just do not go there if you're in any kind of rush.
