I really want to like Mexikosher, but I am left with mixed feelings. When I have eaten here, service has been slow and inattentive, particularly when it was not busy. The prices are high, which is logical given that it is kosher, but having everything premade doesn't feel quite right for the price. I wanted to love this place. I really did. I schlepped my family from the UES just to try it since I'm such a big Top Chef fan. I have to say, the food was yummy but both my husband and I left with the impression that we would not be back. First of all - it's small. The ambiance of the dine-in scene gives the impression of quick, casual food. That's fine except the prices really don't live up to that. Spending that much, I want to relax at a table and not be crammed against a wall at a barstool. Maybe they want you to take it out but then it still seems overpriced. Food aside, a CAN of soda that you fetch out of the fridge yourself is $2.50. We ordered the carne asada nachos. The meat was delicious but you don't get very much of it and it goes fast. We ended up feeling like we paid for a giant bowl of chips. The sauces are good and creative, I recommend trying them all. The guacamole is surprisingly underwhelming, both texture and taste. We were also a bit put off by the service. There was no one in line ahead of us or behind us while we ordered but the employee behind the counter seemed annoyed that we were taking our time deciding what we wanted. There seemed to be a few food items on display that must have been off menu (daily specials?) but he was definitely annoyed when we asked about them "That's a burger...." No elaboration. My husband asked for his opinion on a menu item and that also seemed to irk him. On top of that, we had a baby with us and asked for a cup of tap water so we could mix her formula and were told we had to get it out of the bathroom sink. I think I would have preferred if he had just said "I can't give you any, sorry". Overall, I would sum it up as overpriced with an atmosphere and staff that don't make you feel any better about what you're paying. My first time coming to this restaurant in queens Extremely rude staff! I came 11:57am and they told me they open at 12pm and couldn't even let me inside to wait. When they finally let me in at 12pm I was ready to order but they told me that they aren't ready in an extremely rude tone and when I asked ok in how long will you be ready and they answered me "whenever we are ready you'll know" that was already a third strike within 5 minutes! At first I thought I liked this place cuz it reminded me of Chipotle. It's a similar concept where you choose your ingredients and it's fast food. But the food was very greasy! The next day my stomach didn't feel well at all and it's definitely from what I ate there. Will never go back! read more

I was really happy my boyfriend and I popped in here. It's small and unassuming, but once you walk in, you'll find surprisingly large portions and a helpful staff. I got a chicken burrito, which was great; I came in starving but could barely finish this thing. I asked for extra rice and beans and it was no problem at all (sometimes restaurants try to charge extra). The toppings are more unique than the standard Mexican fare, so you can add things like beets or pickled onions. Great for my burrito, but not so much for my boyfriend's nachos - nachos just don't work so well when they're not dripping in cheese. Still, it's a great addition to the kosher food scene. I wish it were a little bigger because as it stands, it'd be hard to fit a huge dinner crowd, but for the purpose of a 10pm hunger craving, it was the perfect solution. read more

I would rather take the dollar and maybe put it to some manners for the guy that works there. I had to ask two people for them to admit to having a plastic cup. I've visited many times and I wanted to like it, but many negatives. - Trash usually overflowing - Tables not bussed - The carnitas and beef/lamb are good, yet sometimes hit or miss - 3 tacos + water sets you back $20 - Inconsistent hours. Close 12:30pm or 1:30pm or ??? on Friday. May or may not be open on Saturday. - Miserable staff, they all seemed annoyed they have to be there - You walk into a empty restaurant at 12pm, wait for a minute, and are in the process of leaving when an unhappy employee magically appears out of the back I saw the owner once and while he seemed friendly and personable, until he gets new staff and clearly labeled working hours, it's a frustrating experience. My partner and I had dinner here about a week ago to see what the fuss was about. Nothing, as it turns out. The food is served in cardboard containers where everything blends together. Some of the flavors are good and some are overpowering. The people behind the counter are rude and inattentive, and the customers weren't any better. This is a sad excuse for Mexican food - $17!! for a carne asada (D grade, discolored fly meat) burrito with BONES in it: I spit out 3 that were chopped in. With as overstaffed as the counter was, you'd think service would at least be passable. Fail there too; two guys were on their cell phones taking up space and oblivious to the customers waiting. My general impression after going a few times for takeout is that it is flavorful Mexi-style food with the totally wrong price point and service model for the location. I love the sauces ("bacon" chipotle), the birria and carne asada, and the veggies (especially the spicy pickled beets). I've also gotten the torta special, which is good, quite messy though. I tend to go for the salad bowl since that can be stretched into two meals if you get the works. I am also happy to report that I didn't mourn the loss of cheese & sour cream like I expected to. Something about the loopy counter service and tiny location without proper tables doesn't jibe with the extravagant prices. I mean, there's not even a lunch special. Now compare with the less-stressful and quite-tasty Oaxaca experience over on Amsterdam. That said, if you are worried about it being crowded, come for lunch. No one else wants $17 eat-and-run burritos (pre-tax/tip) in the middle of the day. If you come with a partner, you might want to try a main and a side (chimichanga?) to cut down on the price. And if you do come for dinner, there's no alcohol or anywhere to sit. But your jacket has room for a flask. GLHF. Finally, here's stuff from other reviews that I don't understand: *no veggies in veggie burrito -- Uh, there are lots of vegetables, most delicious. *burritos are small -- If by "small" you mean "huge," then yes. *workers and customers are rude -- I won't speculate on what this is supposed to imply about the customer base, but I haven't seen anything wrong. As for the service, I agree there have been problems, but in my experience their disorganization and forwardness has only led to my accidentally getting an extra scoop of a second meat and a vague feeling of being condescended to. read more

Disappointing. 3 chicken tacos and a water for $20, which is ridiculous. Chicken is completely flavorless - actually worse, it just tastes like grill char. The toppings were uninteresting and completely slapped together. Black beans were entirely soupy beany juice, almost no actual beans. Highlight of the meal was the yellow rice, because it tasted like it was supposed to. Zero ambiance. Had Mexikosher cater a small birthday party on less than 24 hours notice. Worked with Rachaelle who did an amazing job setting it up. She was quick and responsive! They provided an incredibly generous amount of really delicious food, all well packed. Their sauces are really terrific! We had a great time making lots of different tacos - so many variations available! They sent many different fresh pickled veggies (we liked them all!). By far the best kosher Mexican food I've ever tasted! (I know there aren't many other options). The food was extremely fresh and the service quick. Now let's talk food, the chimichangas were incredible. Perfectly cooked, great depth to the beans, and topped with the most amazing guac and pico de gallo. Next are the tacos, I had the carne asada and the chicken breast. Both had a dimension of flavor way beyond my expectations. Pickled onions, pico de gallo, and guacamole you can't go wrong. The real winner is the salsa (or sauces), amazing! Try every single one, they're all incredibly unique for kosher cuisine. All in all, 5 stars, and I'll definitely be back for the churros! read more

Nice little casual spot for a simple but interesting meal. Finally something that's not middle eastern, burgers, pizza, or sushi. A tad on the expensive side, but that's kosher for you, and it's really not so bad for what you get. It's very small, and busy (at least when I went -- weekday around 8pm). Don't try to come here with a huge group of people (it's in a nice area and near the park though so plenty of places to eat outside if the weather is nice). Waited about 10 minutes to order. I've eaten here a few times and generally leave unimpressed each time. Maybe I'd feel differently if I kept kosher. The portion of meat is large but the taste and quality are inconsistent. Overall the food is pretty bland (other than too salty at times) except for the sauces. The guac was very thin - not thick or chunky at all. The "beans" seemed to be just a dark liquid without any real beans in it -- I prefer beans and no liquid. Service is neither friendly or unfriendly - just blase. I really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. I got a fried chicken sandwich that was a special of the day--or rather shall I say, batter with a 1mm chicken slice dispersed at times throughout the batter. It tasted way too sweet--like caramelized popcorn gone bad. The person making our food did not ask me what I wanted in the sandwich until I intervened when I saw him put pickles in it (I don't like pickles). I asked for plain avocado and he put guacamole in it. So the sandwich completely fell apart after a few bites. Fries were good. Husband got a burrito and said it was okay.
