Used to eat here regularly pre-pandemic, but after being in there today, with NONE of the cooks or kitchen staff wearing masks or gloves, them having no record of my online (and prepaid) order, and not enforcing other customers walking in with no masks, I can no longer eat here or recommend others to. This is clearly not a local business that respects or cares about their community that they depend on to thrive, not to mention state laws. Very disappointed and will prioritize supporting other local businesses during and after this pandemic that take and respect the basic public safety precautions. read more

Let me start with the food. It's bright. It's fresh. It feels good to eat. The presentation is lovely! We ordered a falafel plate and a chicken shawarma plate. Both were beautiful. The falafel were crisp outside and soft, fluffy, and moist inside. So flavorful! The hummus is light and creamy. The kraut offers a fantastic balance, and the salad and rice both lightly seasoned and yummy. The pita are like pillows. The shawarma was succulent and nicely seasoned. My family loves this food, which is a joy as Grass Valley doesn't have much to offer in the way of healthy AND delicious. I had to knock off a star for service though. The person who appeared to be a shift manager took ten minutes to take our order as she was on the phone. Other employees were available but she sent them to clean tables. We received our meal quickly, but as we ate, we had to endure the same manager complaining loudly about every customer who called in and many who were still in the restaurant eating! A man came in to request a job application, and she refused to offer him one then made fun of him when he left. The whole restaurant even got to hear about her living situation and how eager she is to move her boyfriend into her bedroom and also how much she thinks schools are all evil. Given our family was eating with children present, this all became more and more awkward as she pulled the young staff in, got uncomfortably close to their faces, and generally handled herself unprofessionally, whispering shortcuts to them and shouting her discontent that a large order had not come with a substantial enough tip. She went outside and came back in in a huge uproar that she had to order people who were not dining there to leave the benches out front. Everything and everyone received loud cooks it's and criticism from the manager. Don't get me wrong: we will return. Maybe not to dine in anymore if she is present. The barrage of negativity really brought the whole mood of the space down, and our experience with this place until this one had been lovely! read more

Excited that GV now has a growing restaurant community. Delicious, fresh and intentional. My guess is you can't go wrong here. We are vegetarian, both dishes were similar but different enough. Falafel was the best I've had, perfectly cooked and NOT dry. Pita was also super soft but not over the top. Look forward to our return. It's pricey considering it is served without sides. Good food, poor service. I called in and requested a specific pick up time. When I arrived at that time, they hadn't made the order and I had to wait 20 minutes on a small order on a slow Monday night. Pickup times seem like a bug to handle when all food is pick up right now. Midway through making the order, they said they were out of beef and asked if they could replace with chicken. That's fine--but they still charged me for a beef dish. It costs only incrementally more than a chicken dish, but to do that seems ridiculous on principle. read more

Great Food, but the service is incredibly rude. Twice now I have ordered before I drove there for pick-up and I ended up waiting 30 minutes one time and almost 45 the next time for a small order and no one else was there. If you get food there late in the day it is stale and yucky. Make sure you get food earlier in the day. Not sure who the owners are, but get a handle on the Attitude. It doesn't feel good to pay a high price for your food and be treated like an inconvenience. read more

eaten here quite a few times. definitely about a 1-2 star on the customer service, but some of the folks are better than others. first tried them at the blue marble jubilee they had a booth and their falafel was the best i'd eaten. since going to the establishment I still enjoy their falafel and actually prefer it to anything else on the menu. I've had the chicken twice, once it was dry, once it was moist and delicious so what gives?! usually their pitas are fresh, but I've also encountered them stale so that sorta weak too. maybe they'll get it together in the end and be a great place but for now i'll stick to their falafel because they are delish. read more

This place is Great!!! I followed them when they had a booth at farmers market. My favorites are Vegan bowl and Falaffel duping plate. The sauces are bursting with healthy food flavor. Okay, I tried to play neutral during these crazy times because everyone is suffering, but this establishment has clearly decided to take the low road in a divided city. There was not one single mask being worn by a guest or by an employee. It's a blatant, rebellious disregard for our community, and quite frankly, an it's an embarrassment to Grass Valley that one of our most on-display eateries (because it's right on Mill Street) refuses to accept pretty basic scientific principles. The person in line ahead of us was not wearing a mask and was served right away. We stayed back 6 feet, and when we stepped forward on our turn we were merely glanced at and then ignored. We stood there waiting as the older lady moved like molasses to change a tap without acknowledging our existence, and the younger girl moved around doing who knows what, also without acknowledging us. After about 3 awkward minutes, we just turned around and left because to be honest, this place was nothing like we remembered it to be. Looking around we noticed that the place was definitely not clean. The seating area was littered with restaurant miscellany while a couple of employees or managers/owners (people I recognize from previous visits) sat at a table chatting intensely. Behind the counter was untidy, and the prep station had food scattered about. There was no life inside, only maskless apathy. Best food in Grass Valley! Got two spicy schwaramas and a Paleo bowl for the family, and it was the best meal I've had in months. We went there when they first opened, and it was delicious but the portions were small for the price. They've fixed that! We're full and satisfied. Thanks again... This place has very tasty food, but my *experience* there was really disappointing. I ordered a beef and lamb kebab which was recommended by the very nice cashier up front (Kayla?). Despite coming during the lunch rush on a weekend I got my food pretty fast. The pita was tasty, sauces were fun, and I wish I had gotten to eat more of the falafel that was placed at the top of the pita. The pita, while great, was filling (I ordered the whole pita) so I still had about half of it left by the time I was full. I had asked for my sauce on the side, but even with that the hummus and my addition of a little of the sauce left the remainder of the pita pretty sloppy. I had an hour drive home, so I wanted to get a box to go. When I asked the cashier for a to go box, she was interrupted by who I can only assume was the owner who told her to give me a bag instead. My pita was already wrapped in paper, so if a bag sufficed I wouldn't have asked for a box. I offered to pay for a box, to which I was offered a bag again. Finally I was given a "box" that didn't fit the pita. I went back one more time and showed them that the pita didn't fit, and when the nice cashier went to grab a box someone else from the back yelled to her that it was too expensive. The owner kept trying to get me to take a bag, all while I was offering to pay for a box. I was finally given a box and left. The whole thing seems trivial and almost ridiculous, but the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I was really looking forward to eating here after a recommendation from a coworker so to be argued with by the owner was a real bummer. And I'm paying $18.00 ($14 pita, tax and tip) for one person's lunch! If I lived in town, a bag would be great but not after an hour+ drive. To be confronted by the owner was just really weird and uncomfortable. Hopefully they figure out their priorities before their full opening (or at least figure out a price for their boxes if they're going to be so stingy with them). I don't plan on coming back. I LOVE the food. Five stars for the food. However, the last time I was in as I was waiting for my order I watched a server dish up food with her mask pulled back from her face, over her hair (not covering her nose or mouth at all). I was wearing my mask (of course) so I indicated to her to pull her mask down. I recall that was the day 4,300 people died from Covid. Boy, if looks could kill! The server responded with absolutely the most hateful, disdainful look I have ever seen ever. I dropped two stars because the three cooking staff were working without masks and the person up front putting orders together and collecting payments had only a face shield which wasn't even close to his face. Other than the fact that the shawarma plate is incredibly overpriced for what you get, my qualms with the shawarma plate were as follows: a shawarma plate should, [by what I thought until recently, to be unanimous consensus] include shawarma. What I got was chicken breast made on a griddle with half of a stale pita. Shawarma is, in fact, meat or poultry on a spit, cut diagonally. Sorry white people. They're selling you what Israelis call, "boolsheet." They're literally feeding you lies. Also: If you have never been to a country in the Mediterranean region, please do not comment on the authenticity of their food. You are entitled to like it, it does not taste bad, even by my account. Taste is subjective, authenticity is not. Hit or miss who was wearing masks amongst staff and customers the other day. On Yelp it says they wear them and do distancing. Some staff did not. Customers came in without masks. "Burn the masks" fliers available on the counter, indicating their sentiments. As a nurse for patients with covid, and having had a young healthy friend die to the virus, I don't frequent places where people don't respect those with risky have health concerns. Silly to lose customers by making it unsafe for some! The only reason I am not giving this place four stars is because the portion sizes were very small I could have ate two of these chicken plates. For $16 I shouldn't come out of there feeling like I could eat another one of those dinners. But this place is easily four stars if the portion sizes get bigger.
