Went here for dinner, party of 5, 8-6-10. Called ahead, and, they took us promptly. Nice atmosphere, knowledgeable wait staff. Wine is very well priced...had an excellent bottle of Italian Syrah blend for 19. Excellent, good price. My date and I each had a half salad and half order of pasta. She the combo salad and rigattoni with sausage ragu, I the heirloom beet salad and wild mushroom risotto. Salads were very fresh, very local, very good. Her pasta was a bit small for a portion, even a half, compared to mine. Mine was delicious, but, someone needs to learn how to grind pepper. Large, half peppercorns are a bit much when you bite them! Ordered another bottle of the same wine, which never arrived. Would give 5 stars, but, too peppery, and forgotten wine makes that a no. Will certainly go again, and, you should too! Mezzo is a little gem. The kitchen really gets it. We dined at the bar and had one of the Stockton Dines specials, Petrale Sole, with lemon caper, mashed Yukon gold, and sautés spinach. Did I mention their clam chowder is a great version, Smokey bacon , Yukon golds and lots of clams, not overly thick, as a chowder should be. read more

First night back to take-out only- we had the weekly special, chicken parm & angel hair pasta plus salad for two, $35. We chose the Caesar salad and it was the best in the county. The chicken parm was juicy and tender and delicious. It all came with complimentary focaccia bread & olive oil dipping sauce, also delicious. Food was packaged nicely and travelled well. I've tried Mezzo several times, as I live close by. Food is good, however the servers are rude! Unless you LOVE to be ignored, don't bother!! They only pay attention to the bar regulars. This place was nice but very small. The service was horrible. I had to ask for bread 3 times before finally being brought to us. The margarita was unsatisfying. The pasta was hard and the sauce lacked taste. And to top it off all 6 of us, hard working people who just so happens to be minorities felt like IS that why the service is so bad smh. Yum! Just went to Mezzo for lunch. First time there and I will absolutely go back. I definitely want to try dinner and a glass of wine! I had a shell pasta with a white sauce and crab with tomatoes and capers! I forgot the name of the dish but I know its starts with a C. It was to die for! My 3 yr old had the mac n cheese which was also DELICIOUS! Definitely something I could eat for a meal. The cheese on the mac was so good. My 10 year old had chicken strips & she loved them. The iced tea I had was iced and refills were coming my way. My daughters both had the dark chocolate gelato and loved it! I had decadent chocolate cake, it had cream & blueberry sauce. I'm not a big chocolate fan, but the sauce (made by a chef in the kitchen) was SO yummy! It was a great combo! All their pastas are hand made in the restaurant and all produce is fresh & local. Have been here numerous times and the service has always been decent and the food delicious. But tonight was an UTTER disappointment. There was no hostess and three waiters in the restaurant, all who ignored me and the two people I was with, until one waiter sauntered over and told us it would be a while due to them being "jam packed with reservations" even though they had numerous tables open and seats at the bar available. After we waited a while we inquired about being seated and that is when the waiter snottily shot back "I TOLD YOU IT WOULD BE A FEW MINUTES". Very disappointing. I had the clam linguine and it was watery and flavorless. It's not that hard to make a decent clam linguine. Portions were small. Melissa the manager is so unprofessional and acted like a child. We politely told her that 5/5 of our meals were cold and tasted bad because they were undercooked (mind you we waited one hour for our food). She had her waitress tell us that she could compensate with one scoop of gelato but we would still have to pay even though we didn't eat our food (like what??). The prices are too high for the inconsistent food and service. The bar staff leave a bit to be desired as well. I have come here over the years and enjoyed the food when it was solid. Second time here went in yesterday to try the linguine with my wife and i can say it was great, the food has a wonderful taste and lets not forget the bread with the olive mix, the staff is also very friendly one of the hosts had my table setup as soon as we got there serving us water and he also offered us bread a couple times cause he knew we loved it and was joking with us trough the night such a wonderful young man cant remember his name, he had a beautiful voice but he and the waitress Jolene provided us an excellent service. Another pre-Christmas meal with a bff of 20+ years. For some reason it seems critical to do these get-to-gethers before Christmas actually comes in order for it to count. In an effort to make sure I see everyone on my list I almost always end up virtually eating my way through the week before Christmas. This year has been no different, thank goodness for that! Mezzo came to mind as I had a memorable first experience here. The menu hasn't changed and I like that it's not extensive first of all because it's easier to make a decision and secondly, because you can only do so many things well. Unfortunately, they were out of salmon and that's my go to entree when dining out. A non-red-meat eater only has so many choices and I tire of boneless breast of chicken more than I'd care to admit. I remembered that last time I tweaked one of the pasta dishes so that it would comply with my dietary needs so rather than offing my digestive system with the many meat choices I went with the pasta. Not on the menu but they will make up a single batch of marinara atop your favorite style of homemade pasta. The marinara was a bit tomatoey and not how I'd remembered it on my last visit. For the stars of the night I'd like to give the olive tapenade 5 brightly shining stars, salty with olivey wonderfulness. The Focaccia; excellent. The roasted beet, arugula, pine nut and bacon (yes, bacon) salad, to die for. In my defense, I skimmed the description of the dish and totally missed the part about bacon. Not bacon bits but fresh, no preservatives, smokey to the ends of the earth and crisply cooked bacon that added something magical to that salad and made me glad I'm not a vegetarian! Dessert? You didn't think I'd pass up the berry cobbler did you? I shared it with my dinner companion and she too now loves one of Mezzo's homemade special desserts. I'll be back. read more

Went for dinner tonight, ready to increase those stars. I started with a dirty martini and the crab cake app. WOW!! As a permanent resident of Seattle and living only 5 blocks from Tom Douglas's Dahlia Lounge where the crab cake is signature (even Giada thinks so), this crab cake is right in there. The crab was fresh, the lemon and caper sauce made it pop. It made me miss being home. For my main course, I had the shell pasta with smoked salmon. This was outstanding. Not at all fishy, just clean and bright. The sauce was light and full of flavor. The chef deserves big kudos. I sat at the bar and observed the kitchen. It must have been his night off. The Sous-chef was running the kitchen. As someone who is in the business world, I rate a dept manager on how well the dept runs in the managers absence. In this case, the chef has clearly directed his staff well and they in-turn understand and respect his ability. Oh, and kudos to the bartender. She made great Absolute dirty martini's. The place has really come together and I look forward to my next visit. read more

My family and I have been to Mezzo many times for it is close to our house. We have been waiting for a good restaurant to open nearby for ages. When we first visited Mezzo it was a disaster. It was on the opening night and service, food and wine were terrible. It was a hot day and the A/C had malfunctioned and it was about 90 degrees inside. The wine was hot and the risotto was crunchy. Service was 'all over the place' and at best marginal. I believe I even saw one of the cooks walk out! My wife and I returned a few weeks later to see that there had been vast improvements. We has reservations and were seated promptly. We ordered wine (wine menu is fantastic, many Italian wines that most people have never heard of!) and salads to start. My wife had the pea salad and I had the beet salad. We both ate off of each others plates and both salads were fantastic. The beet salad could be a meal in itself. The beets are fantastic and the dressing and other vegetables create a great balance (I have been back since and just had this salad on it's own for lunch. We also go the albacore tuna bruschetta and they sent us a complimentary red pepper bruschetta. Both were amazing! I have never has a tuna bruschetta and was in love with the saltiness and oily texture of the white meat albacore mixed with capers and house made olives. The red pepper bruschetta was also great, had a nice crispness and seemed very light. My wife ordered the risotto and I had the suckling pig. Both were fantastic. The risotto was moist and flavorful and the suckling pig was amazing. The suckling pig is wrapped and cooked in it's own skin with dried cherries and those same house made olives. I didn't care to eat the skin/fat part, but they tell me that many people greatly enjoy it. The cherries offered a fantastic balance of sweetness to the olives saltiness. Fantastic dish. We also had the spinach side which was great...I think it is just seasoned and sauteed until wilted, but whatever they do it has a ton of great flavor. The dessert was OK at best and when I said that I didn't care for what I had they brought out a house made mascarpone dish. It seemed to have vanilla and a few other ingredients mixed with mascarpone and served in a large scoop. It was fantastic...very light with some fresh berries. There were a few hiccups in the service but over all a great experience. My wife and I have returned many times since and it just keeps getting better each time. I think that Brookside finally has something that it can be proud of. As the staff gets used to the restaurant and the cooks with the clientele it just gets better. Sometimes when it is busy, it gets a bit loud, but all in all a great time. We highly recommend it and have taken many friends here to showcase what our neighborhood finally has! read more

Wow. What a difference a great chef makes. I had given up on Mezzo since it was so hit and miss, but with Buddy at the helm, the food is excellent and consistent. From appetizers, entrees, specials to desserts everything is spot on. Even the tapenade style dipping sauce for the bread is fabulous....olive oil, Kalamata olives and anchovies. Finally a chef who isn't afraid to use anchovies! The wild mushroom pasta is "to die for" as is the seafood linguini. The swordfish special tonight was cooked to perfection and the Friday special clam chowder was definitely house made and yummy. I love the fact that Buddy comes to each table to sincerely assess each each customers satisfaction. Mezzo has finally gotten it right! read more

Very nice restaurant in Brookside. The food was very good and the presentation was equally good. The prices were also very reasonable for the quality of the food and the atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and quick! They even went out of their way to learn how to make a specific drink per our request! Parking can be very limited as there are a number of offices and other restaurants that quickly consume the parking lot. Overall the food is good and so is the staff! Yummm, I am getting hungry just thinking about the food as I write this review. The "contemporary" dishes are fresh both in food quality and creativity. The kaleidoscope of flavors and spices are genius -- what a treat! On Fridays they serve what they claim is the "Best" clam chowder. I have to agree. Even their Brussels sprouts, a food formerly at the bottom of my priority list, are so good that my boss and I have been inspired to try to replicate them at home. A favorite dinner entree is the Roasted Skuna Bay Salmon served with seared spinach and fennel and olive oil crushed potatoes (they accept substitutes for side dishes). The atmosphere is hip and classy, and the staff is friendly. The only reason this restaurant is not receiving 5 stars (or six out of five!) is because on our 3 to 4 visits, the food was slow to arrive to our table. It's good enough to be worth the wait, so long as you're not in a hurry, or if your hunger is not so ravenous it can't be content with the delicious bread with olive oil tapinade served while you wait. read more

Is this a restaurant or sports bar? First, I don't enjoy eating in a restaurant with sports on the TV and half in the tank bar patrons screaming at each play. Second, having lived in Italy, I would be ashamed to call this Italian food. I ordered Pasta Bolonese with Penne Rigate noodles. This dish should have the noodles cooked a little under al dente and allowed to finish in the sauce, filling the tubes with rich sauce, but the noodles should be firm and whole . My noodles were broken and mushy and the whole dish lacked care and attention. This was a prime example of lazy cooks with little care for their craft. read more

At least my 5th meal here in the last 5 months and once again it was excellent. Tonight was the NY steak with roasted fingerling potatoes and arugula salad. Almost had the special pasta but was in the mood for steak. Other visits I had the Bolognese, pappardelle, chicken , and gnocchi (all different dishes). Service is personable and attentive. I ordered the casarecce pasta and there was a hair in my food! Gross! Initially no big deal, it was a small hair, service was not good and really slow, and I was hungry so I just pushed it to the side and ate some of the remaining unaffected pasta. At the end of the meal when the waitress came to clean up I pointed out the hair and all she said was an apathetic sorry. I barely ate half the dish so I asked her to box it and to not put the part touching the hair in it. Next day, I decide to eat my leftovers for lunch. And there staring in my face was an even bigger clump of hair! So disgusting! I'm never eating at this place again! Too bad yelp doesn't allow zero stars because that's what they deserve. read more
