Went for lunch today. I grew up in CM and ate here a lot when I was younger. The decor has not changed and unfortunately the place smells like it hasn't been aired out in a while. Not appealing when I first walked in. My friend and I each ordered 2 chicken tacos a la carte and the bill was $30. The chicken was flavorless though the portions were big. I had to remove 80% of the cheese that was piled on top. I had soft tacos and my friend's hard tacos looked too greasy. Way over priced for cheap tasting food. Do you hate cheese? Then you might have a hard time here. Although, I have a friend who hates cheese and loves this place, so just come on down and try something. I've had a few different things, but the asada fries are what keep me coming back. Mi Casa has been our family favorite, date night go-to place for most of our lives. We have really missed going to the Burro Room or dining room, so when we saw we could get take out with a Cadillac margarita kit too, we couldn't wait to try it! I called around 11:30, placed my order and paid, pulled up at 5:30, called them to let them know I was there and they brought out our order. Everything was so delicious, they included LOTS of chips and salsa, a handwritten thank you note and a $5 gift card! We are so happy to help them through this hard time and will be ordering again this week. We can't wait until we can eat in the restaurant again, but in the meantime, we will enjoy at our casa! :) read more

This used to be one of our favorite restaurants. However tonight was a big disappointment. My husbands drink came with lipstick stains on the glass, the shredded beef in the taco was tough, dry and over cooked. The cheese melted on his dinner was burned and the salsa was the texture of ketchup. To top it off, a child came around to our table selling candy bars for his youth sport team. Looks like this will be our last time to Mi Casa. Update: I appreciate the general manager for contacting me and promising to talk to his employees about correcting issues we had Saturday night. Doordash order: I hope this is more useful to the ownership than the customers. The Mexican food they serve is pretend Mexican. But that's OK if it has good flavor, but this one doesn't. Shrimp Ceviche has zero salt and it has virtually no shrimp - NOT WORTH ORDERING. Its essentially a veggie salad w a couple of shrimp. The asada taco - salty meat, tons of cheese, no sauce, not grilled tortilla - SAD looking/tasting taco. Now onto the most dissapointing part and something I have a hard time understanding how they manage to butcher this - their rice and beans. Rice was microwaved to a crisp. The beans were flavorless and covered in cheese to mask the lack of seasoning. Also ate an enchilada, but I think you catch my drift now. I support business owners that at least try. We drove over an hour to try this place, first our waitress Shasta was not friendly at all! We loved the tacos, some reviews complained about too much cheese but we loved it, the salsa was disappointing, my 10 year old described it as a spicier tomato sauce. Enchiladas are great! Was raised on this food! So delicious and always fresh. Parents came here when they were young and always brought it home when I was growing up, definitely nostalgic for me. Although it's not technically authentic Mexican food, more like Tex mex in my opinion, my go-to is the chicken flautas with rice and beans. You can ask for the flautas with cheese on top which makes them even more delicious. If you dine in, be prepared for the sizzler countertops which, in my opinion, add to the charm of the business and kinda funny. Went for old times sake since it was such a great spot in the late 90s! Ambiance is still classic old school Mex which is great. Beer was ice cold and delicious. The food was horrible. Soup and entrees were room temp and they tried to disguise the chewy old beef in the tacos my adding literally TWO cups of shredded cheese on top. I had this delivered straight home and I was astounded by the sheer size of the ceviche! The portion was so huge that I split it in two to be able to have two meals which is always a plus. The drink wasn't my favorite because it involved using cilantro which I found very strange. However, if you avoided the cilantro it was quite tasty. This location is pretty busy. Came in on a Friday evening and the place was packed! The food was just okay, the service was kinda slow in the beginning, but our server made our dinner better! She was terrific! Her name is Debbie. At first it took a moment for her to come around to take our drink order, but once she did, she provided us with the best service! Very friendly, gave her recommendations, and she kept our drinks full.(without having to ask for refills, which was awesome!) Also the guy that came around asking us if we'd like more chips and salsa. Kuddos for the service. Now for the food, my hubby and I ordered a couple of plates. I ordered the chili relleno, which was truly mediocre. Then my husband ordered a vegetable burrito, which he liked a lot. My plate came with beans and rice. Been working at an office on the opposite side of the plaza for 2+ years and finally the other day I made to Mi Casa! In the 17th Street Promenade parking is almost always at a premium so be prepared to do a little walking or a little waiting! Came around Happy Hour, the main dining room itself was empty but in the Burro Room (bar area) there were a handful of patrons, most seemingly regulars. In this area there's a self-serve Salsa and Chips station with really good Salsas. For my entree I ordered a couple Chicken Taquitos, which weren't the most flavorful but were cheap and came out at the perfect temperature. Got the Tortilla Soup too, which was amazing! Layers of flavors and melted cheese really made the soup complex to the tastebuds. For drinks I got a couple Cadillac Margaritas for $5 a pop. Just like the Taquitos, not the tastiest, but boy were they strong! The bartender was friendly and I think his voice has a strong resemblance to Bob Odenkirk's/Better Call Saul's. A little kick for those of us obsessed with that show haha. Overall, Mi Casa is not the greatest Mexican joint but fills in a niche that isn't the easiest to find in the area, which is the mid range between the very cheap Carnicerias/Tortillerias and the upper scale places where you can spend $10-15+ for an a la carte taco. The owner did an excellent job creating a large patio for outside seating during COVID. Nice white fence with astro turf to make for a beautiful dining experience. I went here with my girlfriend to get some dinner on a Friday night. It was busy but there were still empty tables. We get seated and 20 mins later we finally get drinks. Our waitress was horribly slow. She was our server before and she was slow then, so it was pretty disappointing to get the same slow server. We order our food and were waiting for over an hour before she even checked on us. She only came back to ask us what we ordered...again. We literally saw people arrive AFTER we did, order their food, eat, pay and then leave. Can we get their waitress? We were still waiting and waiting. I swear we filled up on 2 orders of chips and salsa. Where was our server?! Still nowhere to be seen. We didn't even have a high maintenance order. Just the steak and shrimp fajitas. Nothing fancy. Half of the restaurant had cleared out at this point so we just decided to pay for our drinks and leave. Honestly, I've never had to leave a restaurant before we got our meal but waiting for over an hour when other people are getting their meals and checks when they arrived after we did was ridiculous. I don't even think she knew we checked out. After several times eating here and getting poor service and mediocre food we gave up and went to a real Mexican restaurant. The quality of food at Mi Casa is nothing to rave about and their service was horrible each time we went there. Also, I have to question a Mexican restaurant with all white staff and patrons. I know it's Costa Mesa but it's very, very Caucasian. Zero stars for customer service and zero stars for food quality. read more

My husband and I visited Mi Casa yesterday. We were going to order takeout but were impressed at how they had set up the outdoor dining and ate at a restaurant for the first time in over a year. Staff wore masks, tables were spaced apart and we felt very safe! I spent my 20's in Newport Beach and have been eating at Mi Casa for over 40 years. We moved to Los Angeles County in 1988 but used to still stop by for lunch or dinner whenever we were in OC. Our adult children still remember it as a favorite stop. Since Covid we have been staying close to home but when we ventured out yesterday my husband was craving his chili verde. The staff is still very friendly and the food was as delicious and still giant portions as iit was in the 80's. We are so happy they have been able to weather Covid and we hope to be eating there for 40 more years! read more

I had Mahi tacos, tiny piece of overcooked hard dry fish in very hard corn tortillas, my hubby had Carne aside with 1 cheese enchilada, he said it was ok, however he was sick all night and I'm having to go to the bathroom way too much, this sorry but its the truth. Went in to this place for a late lunch. The bar area was open to watch sports. Our server came over and got our order. We got tacos and Enchiladas. We also asked for some guacamole for our chips. That was the last we saw of our server for 20 minutes. The food came out and I already needed another drink. We never got the guacamole we ordered just our food plates. Kind of funny but out server disappeared to the bar area. I had to go to the bar snd ask for another drink. Really???!!!! What a joke for service here. Well after 20 minutes I finally got another drink. WTF!!!??? Really??? Come on this is unacceptable. The manager needs to do his job and insure any patron gets proper service and does not have to wait until they are almost done eating to get another drink. What s mess the bar area is. A true let down after reading the reviews. The bar service sucks to say the least. Having to go ask for a drink during your dinner is in-believable. What s joke. I will not be back. I would recommend that if you want service go somewhere else because this bar you won't get any pepper service. Total let . What a better experience. We did get great service and great food. This place is very disorganized. I would recommend further training on staff. When we arrived, there were two teen boys attending to guests. While we were waiting, I observed them take guests to tables that were not ready over and over again. All this while they had three empty booths reserved for Uber Eats, Door Dash, and Grub Hub. When they called for us, they did not announce name and party size, instead it was, "Hey, you're (our name), right? Yeah, follow me." The host then took us to a table that then he said wasn't ready, before redirecting us to another location, pointed to the table, said, "You can sit there." And then left. No etiquette whatsoever. My family and I were then sitting at our table for 15 minutes waiting for anyone to offer us chips or take a drink order. It wasn't until we got up to leave that someone finally approached us.
