We always have such a great experience any any Mi Cocina location we visit. This location has a very small bar. Mi Tierra nachos (not on the menu any longer) are the best and can still be ordered! Obvi, you have to order a mambo taxi but their aqua frescas are a great non-alcoholic, and very delicious, choice! read more

Service. We like to enjoy the food and drinks at Mi Cocina every 2 weeks. We visited tonight and our service was AWFUL. Waiter served our water 15 min after arrival, after the chips were placed on the table when we sat down. And then 20 min later, our waiter forgot to put our food order in. When the food was finally delivered we had empty water & margarita glasses on the table for 15 min ... seems like. Missed opportunity for another Mambo Taxi, not to mention just general disappearance by our waiter. We asked for extra peppers with our food - he never brought them. We ate, and waited another 15 min before we saw him to ask for the check. Meanwhile there is a manager and 6 other waiters in the same area - and not one of them made eye contact to see what was going on. Paid via Apple Pay to get out of there ASAP, as who know how long it would have taken our waiter to come back with a card and final bill. So very disappointed. When it comes to tex-mex restaurants I typically prefer the hole in the wall types over anything even remotely upscale. But, I certainly can't complain about a place like this with clean, tastefully decorated, modern surroundings. The first impression for me always comes from the chips and salsa, and I will give them credit for serving them very quickly. As far as the flavor, the chips were fine, but the salsa is what my kids would describe as "mid". The extra spicy salsa I requested was less impressive. It was so heavy on the cilantro that I wasn't sure if I was eating salsa with cilantro or the other way around! My Sunset Enchiladas with chicken were ok, although not spectacular. According to the menu they're supposed to be spicy, which I was looking forward to. But the elusive heat was a reminder that spiciness is purely subjective. While the food on its own would fall into the 3 star range, it was the Mambo Taxis that really made a lasting impression. They're smooth, sweet and deceptively strong. We actually ordered some extras to take home because we couldn't get enough of them. Warm, friendly staff. Quickly seated for lunch. These may be my favorite chips and salsa of any of my top Mexican food restaurants. The restaurant is consistently clean with an inviting atmosphere. Unfortunately, the hard surfaces reflect much noise, making conversations a challenge. Whether this is a strategy to turn tables, I cannot say. Good lunch menu. My colleague enjoyed the quesadilla and I enjoyed the tacos de brisket. I'm all about customer experience. So I have to deduct for servers who walk up and interrupt a conversation as though they're the most important person in the room. This behavior is selfish and has no place in any service industry. This is one of those places that I've always had mediocre service and the food has been just ok not good. It's been a year since I've been here but decided to do something different for lunch today. I ordered the business man's lunch beef fajitas when the meal was served I was shocked at the lack of beef fajitas on this dish. There were six very thin grisly pieces of beef which looked more like small pieces of bacon. I questioned my server and was told the manger was not in and she couldn't do anything. Knowing it was not her fault I didn't press the issue and left hungry This is a $20 lunch offering they should be ashamed and embarrassed to serve such an inadequate amount of food for what they promote on the menu as their signature option on their lunch menu. Came here for my birthday because I'd been before and it was good but this go around it just wasn't great at all. The chips & salsa were just not good. There was a male server who was sweeping and he kept staring at me to where I was uncomfortable. I normally get stares but this was like overboard and it wasn't just me. He was eyeing multiple women. Abundant parking in shopping center lot. Was greeted and had friendly banter with staff. Excellent communication with staff was a positive trend through out the dining experience. I prefer thinner but thy were still good and brought immediately without any request needed. Ambiance was good. Upscale which is nice for a Mexican restaurant. Furniture was reasonably comfortable. Crowded on a Saturday night but not too noisy. I had a platter with a little bit of everything. Tamales, taco, etc. Maybe too much sauce but flavorful and filling. Even a small salad which was refreshing. Wife had vegetarian tacos with mushrooms which she declared very good and enjoyed some leftovers the next day. Even the leftovers looked great! This may be my favorite restaurant in Texas. Mi Cocina has something for everyone. I can go traditional Tex mex with their sunset enchiladas (spicy!) or their delicious Cocina changa, or if I'm looking for healthier options, they have a fantastic special called Ernie's chicken, which is literally the only thing I've ordered since I first discovered it. If you're counting calories, just ask for the poblano sauce on the side, and it makes a great, under 5-600 calorie meal that's very filling. The dining experience is great. Even when they're busy I'm usually seated promptly thanks to an expansive outdoor seating area. The entire serving staff is respectful and polite, but my favorite server is Luis! Just ask for him by name and you will not be disappointed. Every time we come in he's warm, welcoming, and personable, and he has a great sense of humor. The last time we were here Fernando was the manager and he helped to ensure an excellent dining experience for all of us. Luis and Fernando, thank you very much! There once was a time in the late 90's- 00's that anybody who was anybody in North Dallas would show up at Mi Cocinas off the Tollway to start off their night on the town. I may or may not recall several Mambo Taxis making the night a little more fun. Nostalgia aside, we decided to hit the location right down the street from us in Highland Village. Place is nice inside and the seating is really great for groups. Clean and steady business on a Sunday after church. My wife started things off with a queso blanco order with beef added. This is usually her measuring stick for any Mexican food place and it met her expectations. Nice white cheese with seasoned ground beef. The danger is always that you could be full before the meal arrives but there's always to go boxes right? My wife is from Louisiana so was not familiar with the great times had decades ago, but I remedied that with a Mambo Taxi order and had them add a shot of Grand Marnier atop just like I used to do in the old days. A sip brought back memories but was more than enough for me these days....LOL Ten year old daughter ordered the cheese enchilada. Plenty of food for a light adult meal to be honest. My wife and I decided to share a mixed fajitas (steak/shrimp) but asked that they do it Sunset style. To be good, I like the flavor of the added fried onion strips but it's not a very clean meal in that it's kind of soggy. Not as a detriment, but just a lot of sauce and the heavy fried onions could put you to a siesta right there at the table. Again just be mindful that it's comfort style and just get the normal order if you don't need a nap! It's easy to see why this place continues to remain open and draw steady crowds. This is my go to place to eat. We probably eat here 4-6 times a month since they have been open. During covid, we got our MiCo fix by ordering to-go! One of my favorite salsas and love the queso blanco. I'm not a huge fan of the tortilla chips. They tend to be a little too think and sometimes you get a stale batch. The fajitas are my favorite. If I'm not in the mood for fajitas, my next go to is the chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce! The brisket tacos with the cilantro rice is a great option too. If you LOVE spice or are in the mood for a spicy variety, anything with sunset sauce is a must! If you calorie watching, the Rico salad is delish. You can change that up by ordering it chopped. My wish list: 1. Change up the menu or add some daily specials that our not on the regular menu. Their menu has been there menu for the most part for ever. Would be nice to have some variety on a consistent basis. Places like Fish City have their specials that are consistently changing. 2. SWEET tea - we are in Texas y'all. I hate having to pour pack after pack of sugar if I decide to order tea. 3. More dessert options or different items: a regular tres leches or sopapillas! I'm really disappointed and now torn on this location. My experiences previously have been good. Ordering to-go is great, food is good, wait time is typically decent. Salsa is some of the best flavored and spiced in Flower Mound. However... why have a closing time of 11:00PM if you close the kitchen at 10:00PM on a Saturday night? This isn't a bar, it's a restaurant. It wouldn't be unreasonable for someone to search them up here on Yelp! and say "oh good, we can actually eat here since they're open for another 1.5 hours" but then get to the restaurant only to wait in the lobby as the host dawdles around the empty dining room for 10-15 minutes from staff person to staff person (clearly off-put that a party of 7 arrived 1.5 hours before closing), then to be seated and told "the kitchen is closing in 10 minutes." That would have been fine, actually. We could have made that work (and we did, ultimately) Our party of 7 was only there to eat, tip well (understanding of the late hour), and leave as quickly and as cleanly as possible... but it was the service of the staff - namely one in particular - who decided to be condescending in tone after we scrambled to get phones out to use as flashlights to see the menu (it was very dark at a booth that could barely fit 7 adult-sized people). "I just wanted to let you know that the kitchen closes in about ten minutes. Can I get you started with anything?" I tell that person that we'd like guacamole and queso. They respond, "No rush, yellow or white?" I elbow the 15 year old at our table who wanted queso, and he fumbled because I'm not sure he's ever heard there was a choice, and finally lands on "Yellow." Then, the responses afterward... that's what soured the mood. A slowed, patronizing explanation that the kitchen (yes, again) is closing soon, but "no rush - take your time", and they just wanted to let us know. So, no rush, but hurry up or you won't get what you came here for. Got it. In our party we had 7 - including one elderly and two adolescents (11 & 15). 3 of the party were visiting from out of town and had to head back home after dinner. The kids had never been, and didn't know what they wanted, and the elderly couldn't read the menu in the dark - it was truly a stressful experience to decide what to eat in less than 8 minutes at that time. We were clearly not here to hang out at the bar. We didn't maliciously decide to inconvenience Mi Cocina at 9:30PM on a Saturday night... we had just gotten out of a high school play that ended at 9:10 or so. Honestly, we were looking to give Hugo's Last Resort a try, but when we arrived there it was HOPPING and the wait was 1 hour (they also close at 11, but didn't look like they were trying to scare anyone away). Mi Cocina was supposed to be the reliable fallback; it has since lost that title. I strongly suggest Mi Cocina change their Saturday closing time to 10:30 (or even 10) if you're not willing to feed anyone past 10. Not sure what you plan to do with the last hour of that time - but it doesn't appear to be a revenue generating hour via food, and shouldn't be published to mislead those who simply want a good late-night meal. I guess I've never arrived this late before to discover this. If you're going to Mi Cocina after 10, it should only be for the drinks (alcoholic or otherwise). read more

Service, very good. Ambiance = usual weekend crowds in an adequately decorated chain restaurant. Food = terrible, for me. The child in our party got the chicken quesadillas and I was satisfied with the way that they tasted. I ordered ala carte cheese enchiladas and what a mess! The tortillas in the enchiladas were uncooked which made them very tough to chew. The "chili-con-carne" sauce was not like anything I have ever tasted in my long, long life.
