Our party of five (me, my wife, our daughter, and our three grandchildren) recently enjoyed dining at Mi Cocina-Chapel Hill. It is one of our favorite Tex-Mex restaurants. Their thicker, crunchy tortilla chips and spicy red salsa pair perfectly with their house frozen and Mambo Taxi margaritas. :) The food is delicious...but I want to focus on our server: Alex B. Alex is one of the best servers we get when we go there, and we are always happy when we get to sit at one of her tables. Alex is friendly; she remembers who we are; she always has a smile; and she ALWAYS gets our food orders right, water glasses refilled. My wife and I needed our Mi Cocina "chips and salsa fix," so we headed there to dine. We both love their spicy salsa and chips. They use a thicker tortilla for their chips. They don't break so easy. They also have an awesome crunch to them. With the salsa, it's a perfect pairing! Yummy. It was also a very comfortable Texas evening. We decided to sit on the patio and watch the birds salvage the dropped chips they can fly off with. Alice, our server, introduced herself with a big smile and welcomed us to Mi Cocina. She took our drink orders, two unsweetened iced teas, and asked if we had any questions about the menu. We told her no, we were regulars. While Alice was still at our table, we went ahead and ordered. Today, we'd be sharing an order of chicken fajitas with all the fixin's. Fajitas sounded really good. After a short wait, Alice was back with our sizzling fajitas. When I saw the platter, I knew I'd enjoy them; there were lots and lots of caramelized onions. The fajitas were really good. We wished the chicken had more time in the marinade. There was a good grilled flavor, but not much of a marinated flavor. Overall, the chicken fajitas were really good. Service was impeccable! Thank you to our hard working server! But the kitchen was unreasonably slow getting food out. And when it did come out, it looked like I got someone's leftovers. I ordered the Latin stir fry vegetables and the papas bravas. I have ordered this before and both were great. But this time it was beyond awful. I can't believe a kitchen would send these two dishes out to be served to a customer. I asked the server to take them off my ticket which he graciously did with no hesitation. No one from the kitchen came out to apologize and as I was leaving the manager looked at both my pictures kind of shrugged his shoulders and mumbled maybe an apology. Everything was so good! Were started with a bowl of Queso (love melted cheese) and I had a Mambo Taxi (always good) I had the LouAnn and he had the brisket tacos. The chicken tortilla soup tasted fresh and the shredded chicken was tasty; needed more fresh avocado cubes in it & could have had a more savory broth than what it came with. This place is hit or miss. Sometimes the food seems fresh but other times- especially after 8:00 pm - it seems like it's been sittting under a heat lamp. Cheese on nachos is congealed, chicken is not trimmed well, lettuce is slimy. The drinks are way too sweet and they fill the glass with so much ice, the margaritas can be finished in 5 sips. Service is pretty good. Ambiance is a tad depressing. read more

A girlfriend and I stopped in for dinner after a day of shopping. Had to wait as they were busy (apparently there is a rodeo in town) but the wait wasn't too long. The food was delicious. The absolute best enchiladas out of all the Mexican food places in Fort Worth! Their tamales are pretty awesome too! The price is a bit high but you definitely get what you pay for. My wife and I usually split a plate whenever we go out anyway because they give so much food so it's not so bad. The house margaritas are great too. Here in Fort Worth you can stand on any street corner and throw a rock and you'll hit a Mexican food restaurant but this place stands above the rest. There might be a line so make a reservation but once you have the food and experience their excellent service you'll know why. read more

I cannot say enough great things about this restaurant. It has great food and the servers are amazing. Alex is one of the best servers and she anticipates all of your needs. Your drink stays filled and the chips and salsa are wonderful and never ending. If you come here more than once and have Alex as your server, she usually remembers what you had in the past and asks if you are having that item again. I cannot say enough good things about Alex. This was my first time to Mi Cocina. As seemingly happens to me often, we had a brand new waitress. Maria was so kind and knew the menu extremely well for it being her second day on the job. The food was just alright unfortunately. I know a taco salad is not the most flavorful dish possible, but it was very bland. I brought my mother here who was in town for the holidays. The food and service both were Stellar! Our server Gene J. Was specifically exceptional. I want to start by saying I am a bit of a mexican food snob so I have high expectations. Their parking is pretty plentiful because, even though it is a shared parking lot, it is a very large parking lot, so parking wasn't difficult. When our party of 3 walked in, we were greeted and sat immediately. Our waitress came over to take our order, answer questions, and give us recommendations. I chose to get the grouper fish tacos, and I was excited that they had something different besides tilapia, and the waitress made a recommendation on how I should eat my tacos. I was interested, so I added serrano peppers and ranch, and she said that the ranch helped it balance the flavor because the serrano peppers were a little hot. I also got a margarita, and one of my friends got the queso blanco. The queso and the chips were tasty. The chips were on the thicker side but were crispy and tasted fresh. The tacos were okay, I understood why she recommended adding something with spice. The fish tacos by themselves didn't have a whole lot of flavor at all, so the peppers and the ranch did help add flavor to the tacos. I did really like their cilantro rice, and the beans were traditional refried beans. My drink was pretty good, but most of their drink selections are just margaritas. I was a little irritated when I got my check. I had been charged for getting the serrano peppers and ranch. The waitress never mentioned that there was an extra charge when she made the recommendation. I would have liked to understand the cost because I may not have paid extra for it. I also got a to go order and got my husband some beef fajitas. My husband ate the fajitas when I brought them home, and he was also disappointed. He said that the fajitas were just cooked meat. They did not have any seasoning. Tex Mex doesn't mean bland, so to me, the food was just okay. read more
