Tex-Mex done right! My date and I frequent this location often, at least once every week or so. Their frozen margaritas are both of our favorite, but be warned, they pack a punch! They have a slew of different takes/versions of margaritas as well as a few other fun cocktails. My date usually orders a beer after his marg and a chilled glass is always offered and always much appreciated. Chips and salsa are complimentary here. Some days the salsa is spicier for whatever reason, but the flavor and consistency - not too chunky or watery - is always on point. There is no happy hour, but the offering of lunch specials that run Mon-Friday until 4pm is a plus. For a $3 upcharge, you can upgrade from refried beans to their "charro" or "bean soup," which I always opt for because it's delicious. You can always opt for double rice, no beans, at no extra cost. This is always a good option because they do tex-mex rice well here. Since we're regulars, it's always nice when a waiter or waitress says hi or hello no matter if they're waiting on our table or not. Seeing so many other tables being said hi to makes it no wonder, there have lots of returning, loyal customers. No extra or overdone attention is paid though, meaning they treat all of their customers as equally and friendly as possible. I'd recommend their chicken quesadilla, bean soup, rice, cheese enchiladas, and maybe their "sunset enchiladas" if you're in the mood to try something familiar but with a slight twist. These particular enchiladas are a bit spicier and come with shoe-string fried onions on top. Critiques: Their queso isn't my favorite, and I also wish they had homemade flour tortillas and/or sopapillas. They don't have sweet tea here, but offer a sugar dish with a variety of sugar alternatives + actual sugar packets. Other than that, I have nothing bad to say. There are private banquet rooms that can accommodate large groups or parties and an outdoor patio area for those wanting to dine al fresco. They have an upstairs bar area that offers open seating and a downstairs area that offers comfortable seating at booths, tables, and booth + table combos. Whether you're dining solo, with a group of girlfriends, on a date, meeting for lunch, or having a meal with your family, this place is great for all of those gatherings. read more

So sorry but very disappointed. I usually like mi cocina but this is my first time at the one in Fort Worth and to start our chips tasted stale and then our waitress was off or something. We got there ready to eat bc we were hongry but as our drink order started she came back saying they didn't have that specific liquor. And my besties drink wasn't even available even though it was on the menu. Turns out she put in a martini instead of a mojito. And that was for my friends. My drink was a margarita with casamigos. And she brought me a margarita mix with a casamigos on the side. After that we were like we're outty. So sorry mi cocina I'm sure your food may have been good but it's how it started that killed it for us. So we had to move on. Hungry or not. If that's how it starts we do not finish there. read more

My family and I are regulars at this location. We go to others around the DFW area frequently, but find ourselves favoring this one. We absolutely adore the staff and environment. Mi Cocina is a weekly lunch tradition with excellent food choices and an inviting newly redecorated layout. However, the star at this location is Alex who is the best server. She is attentive, friendly and knows our likes. Although the brisket tacos are popular and delicious, the #4 lunch special and the combo nachos locos are always a great choice. As the weather turns colder, the chicken tortilla soup will be back in the lunch rotation. When you arrive for lunch or dinner, cross your fingers that Alex has a free table. Came here for dinner on a Saturday night. Our waiter, Ricky, was very polite and helpful in helping me and my girlfriend pick out our food. Both the service and food was bad, I came here for my birthday and I got tamale dinner. It was raw! Absolutely horrible and it gave me a tummy ache..the server barely even came to check up on us and gave the food to the other people beside us first even though we were there first, I've gone to mi cocina many times before cut this day was unacceptable. It had been some time since we dined at Mi Cocina. I remembers the food being pretty decent, at least at the downtown location. We just finished eating there and feel as we just threw $45.00 in the trash. I orders tortilla soup and my wife ordered chicken fajitas. No taste! The soup tasted like watered down tomato soup. The salsa tasted like tomatoes with some salt and garlic. The chicken fajitas were average at best. The beans and rice were cold and tasteless. What happened to Mi Cocina's? It's an end if an era! This used to be the place to go! I've never been here when there wasn't a buzz in the restaurant and a wait to get in. I thought it was odd that the restaurant was so "dead" today. It was bizarre, but then I realized why! First, the restaurant was absolutely filthy. Stacks of dishes on trays, dirty floor, filthy pepper shakers, and walls. The legendary mambo taxi is no more. There was always that dark purplish/pink color and ours came out a pale pink, watered down version. Sadly, the once delicious queso came out curdled. We were served food with no silverware or napkins. Service used to be impeccable here but that is a thing of the past! I will say that the brisket tacos were still delicious but they served the salad dry and forgot the dressing that goes on it. We won't be back and that is sad. There were so many things wrong and the restaurant is sadly not the same. What was once my go to Mexican food restaurant is the one I'll tell people to avoid. A sad day for Fort Worth. read more

The wait time was awful after being told it would be an hour, it turned into 2. After we sat down, it took an additional 30 mins to get our drinks and over an hour to get our food after we ordered. We stopped in for a quick happy hour on a Friday evening, and although packed, were pleased to find a high-top in their fun upstairs bar. I was just in the area shopping and thought I should try this place as I was walking by. Best decision I've ever made. The salsa was good and had some spice to it which was nice. We got the queso with beef and it was full of flavor and had a little bit of everything. I ordered the brisket tacos and let me tell you...immaculate. Amazing. So much flavor from the meat to the sauce and peppers. My mom ordered the poblano chicken enchiladas and those were also amazing. It was nice because the tortillas had a little crunch to them and were not soggy! We both had rice with our meals and it was one of my favorite rice's that I've had at a Mexican restaurant. My mom also ordered a frozen mango margarita and she said it was the best frozen margarita she's had in a while! Our server, Rosemary, was SO kind and helpful! Today, I stopped by the Mi Cocina in Chapel Hill for the first time and was fortunate to have Tania as my server. Her positive attitude and incredible attention to detail really made my experience a memorable one. She made such an impression that I asked her to send the manager over so I could tell her what a fabulous asset Tania is to the company. We have been fans of Mi Cocina for many many years. Can you say Mambo Taxi? I'm sure you can. Friday or Saturday night? You better be prepared to wait and have a drink while you wait on a table. This place is always packed and for good reason. The food and the drinks are just fantastic. Of course I already mentioned the Mambo Taxis but I really prefer the Mango Margarita. Those two seemingly harmless drinks will kick your butt so be careful. The food is always great too. We normally get the Beef Fajitas Sunset Style and a bowl of the Chicken and Rice soup. We share each and leave happy every time. (OK maybe a little tipsy but you read above so should know that) Now this place is a little on the pricey side so if you are like us, you cannot eat here all the time but it's one of our once a month places.
