Absolutely horrible experience and food! The manager should be fired for incompetence! Went for late lunch May 29,2021 at about 4pm and our waitress was just the worst! At 1 point she was sitting in the back of restaurant eating while we wanted more drinks and chips. Food was delivered like it had been sitting under a heat lamp! Bartender was our 1st stop when we entered because we wanted to have a cocktail and visit and this bartender had the personality of a rock! The phone was constantly ringing over the loud speaker system and this went on for an hour and no 2 answered it! It was crazy! The restaurant was not busy and we went to this restaurant because the food and atmosphere was always great! But no more! Very sad because they have a prime location but they won't for long! came in for a quick dinner after landing at dfw.. i wanted a chill tex-mex place and mi cocina delivered. chips n salsa were served immediately after i sat down at the bar, and the frozen mango margarita was suggested ($10), which hit the spot. the salsa was delicious, and i wish the chips were a bit thinner. apparently they limit every customer to three frozen drinks because they creep up on you! i had two.. also tried the frozen sangria-blended one, but i preferred the mango. the menu is quite large.. some items i didnt understand the descriptions of.. i went with the tacos de pescado, which came with a side of rice and avocado salad (2 slices of avocado on shredded lettuce and crispy tortilla strips. they werent half bad! i slathered some of the red salsa on top to add a hint of spice. generally was pretty happy with my meal! read more

So, I'm in town for a conference and want to find a place for Taco Tuesday, right? I check Yelp for some local places, but the good places were beyond walking distance. So, I made the mistake I knew I shouldn't make. I switch over to that other app that has maps and reviews and stuff. And "those people" gave Mi Concina good reviews. I was hoodwinked! It was so disappointing. As other reviews have stated, it looks lovely, but that's about where it ends. We walk in with a party of 8 and are told there will be about a 30 minute wait. Ok... large conference in town, I can understand a wait. But we're staring at empty tables that could seat our party. And about 20 minutes into our wait, we're seated at the empty table we've been looking at the entire time. Eh... ok, maybe they didn't have enough staff on hand to serve us. But we get seated, and then we wait. And wait. And again, I can understand when you're unexpectedly overwhelmed, but when you do get the food and it's underwhelming as well it just doesn't seem worth it. The meat was grilled nicely, but had absolutely no seasoning. Rice and beans were meh... slightly dry and again missing salt. On the upside, the mixologist that night was serving up some great mojitos! But I'd suggest hopping in the Uber or Lyft and making the trek to a place with better reviews. First, you need to know that I'm new to the North Texas area... born and raised in the Houston area and spent the past seven years in Austin - therefore, I know DELICIOUS Mexican food and Tex-Mex Food. I found myself in downtown Fort Worth on a Sunday afternoon starving! We stumbled into a trendy looking restaurant off of Sundance Square and were excited to find out that it was mexican food! We immediately ordered the staples: chips, queso, and guac. Let's pause here - the guac was just mashed up avocados with some onion and tomato - ZERO seasoning or spice (and I don't even like spice), the queso was VELVEETA with a few small tomatoes mixed in - this review should just end right there, but it doesn't. My friend ordered chicken tortilla soup - and she received a bland bowl of chicken broth with a couple of spoons of veggies and chicken at the bottom - but mostly broth. Nothing garnishing the top - no cheese or chips (which is usually included in tortilla soup). My "crispy chicken enchiladas" also known as taquitos (they were just trying to fancy it up), were FAR from crispy. They were so chewy (and I'm not exaggerating here) that I was NOT able to cut through them with my serrated steak knife. and the chicken inside was sub par. The service was slow, and they weren't busy but we didn't mind because we were visiting. So this wasn't a huge deal. When he brought us the bill he asked if we wanted a to-go box and I said "No, thank you. I did not really like it" and he immediately went and got someone else. The gentleman (who I presume was the manager) was so kind and generous offering other food. I was simply honest in saying we didn't like anything, and were not interested in trying anything else. I asked if I was accurate in my assessment that the queso was velveeta, and if he generally receives positive feedback about the food. He was not a fan of my questions/banter. I was actually quite calm, just genuinely inquiring, wondering if I just have high standards for mexican food. After asking around, I have heard a lot of mixed reviews about Mi Cocina, therefore I feel affirmed in my experience that day. The atmosphere and the location are good. It has a great ambiance. The patio is beautiful as well. However, there were a few things I wasn't too impressed with. One, they have a rule: you must have 70% of your party present in order to be seated. My party had chosen to split in half, with one group shopping for a bit while the other going ahead to secure a good table. Instead, we ended up waiting for everyone else to arrive before getting a seat. Their cuisine needs work. The food has no seasoning. I've tried their chips and dip, quesadilla, chicken and rice. It was really bland. You can eat the food if you're starving, but honestly, if you're not that hungry, you will taste the poor quality. During my latest Fort Worth visit, I went there with my family for take-out. We went to the back of the restaurant to order. (They have a bar set-up towards the back.) While we were waiting for our orders, my mother and I noticed one guy cleaning out the tortilla chips and restocking them. While he is moving the tortilla chips, with his bare hands, he and a few coworkers coming by, were putting their hands in and eating the chips too. Needless to say, we threw out the chips. It's not a particularly complex setup, what with the two bars and all (separate, go figure), the otherwise oft-communal seating with a number of tables happening, the natural lighting interspersed beyond. None of that would matter without service. And I think that it's the service that I thought was most interesting. It took us a little bit to get seated, a little bit more to get waited on, and eventually the staff settled into a rhythm. They seem to do a pretty regular dinner crowd from what I could tell, and the staff seems pretty colloquial about it; this, no doubt, is bred out of (hopefully) familiarity with one another, and there does seem to be a comfy shorthand at play. In the end we ordered a number of different items from the menu fajita platter section (there appear to be a number of other Norteno style dish options as well), and this was a nice touch: Negro Modelo, served in a chilled, but squared, sipping tumbler. This is by far my favorite TexMex restaurant. There is something on this menu to suit every palate and size of appetite. Complimentary Valet Parking for my fellow high-heeled friends hoping to avoid the pitfalls of the cobblestones in downtown FW. The Rico Salad with Chili Garlic dressing is a must. The Nachos Locos with Fajita beef and fresh jalapenos can't be beat. The Ernie's chicken is always a hit. If you have never tried green rice, now is your chance. The salsa is just the right amount of spicy and I put it on everything! Definately a fresh taste that makes you want more. No matter what you chose from the menu, the Mambo Taxi (swirl margarita) is the perfect compliment and is so refreshing. The patio is a nice addition for seating and relaxing. On the weekends this place is packed with the locals who know what a gem Mi Cocina is. You'll never meet a stranger and if you do, they are likely very trendily attired and friendly. Always fast, attentive and charming service. The waitstaff is consistent and does not turn over. If you enjoy good food but don't mind border-line rude service then you will love it here. This place gets three stars from me ONLY because the food is so good, and the restaurant is clean. However, I think my days of dining here may be coming to end. I love the location because it's right near the heart of Sundance Square, and as I mentioned before the food is really good. You can count on the food being good, but the service is another story. My past visits to Mi Cocinas have not been the best, and it's been due to customer service. The servers seem to be in bad moods and are often borderline rude. I get that everyone has a bad day so you give people a pass out of compassion. But lately, giving passes is all I seem to do when I come here. My last visit was the final straw. My family and I came to celebrate the life of my late mother in law because this was one of her favorite restaurants; and the bad service was all my family talked about that evening. Instead of walking around the table to give people their food or drink she constantly reached over other people's plates and food to avoid walking around. Not only is it rude, but she had B.O. so it was offensive. When asked for things like guacamole or extra salsa she seemed annoyed. No one wants to pay for service and feel like they are inconveniencing the server by simply asking for refills or extras. I wish I could chalk this up to one bad night, but this has been my experience as of late. Which is a shame because the food and the ambiance is the reason we come. Tips: No reservations allowed. And if you are meeting up with a group they will not seat you until 75% of your party has arrived. Nothing to complain about here. Salsa is spicy with good flavor. Chips served warm. Good selection of beer and wine, good margaritas and mojitos. Many selections between traditional Tex-Mex offerings and more upscale, healthy options. I had the beef tacos which surprised me: they were made with strips of beef, not ground beef AND the beef was tender and not stringy. Made the taco eating quite pleasurable. Served with tasty rice that was exactly as it should be and an avocado salad. One friend had green chili enchiladas that smelled so good that we thought twice about our orders. My other friend enjoyed enchiladas that were solidly tasty, but could not compare to the scent of the green chili wafting across the table! Our service was prompt, polite, never intrusive and the order was right the first time. Never had to ask for tea and he was very intuitive on the need for salsa/bar drinks, etc. We were visiting over the holidays and we never felt rushed or that we were taking up a table that needed to be turned. The atmosphere is busy and a bit loud, but not obnoxiously so. We were able to hear the music playing and hear our conversation without raising voices. It is one of my favorite places. It is CONSISTENT. I would have rated it higher, but I must be honest....it is consistently good, not excellent. But I must stress that every time I go anything I order is very good, the service is very good and the experience is good. I do not think it is fine dining or the best Tex-Mex out there, but to have a great time EVERY time is priceless in my book. You should go, have a drink, eat a meal and leave with a smile. This place has a sophisticated yet low key vibe. A bit on the fancier side, with out the too crazy, fancy prices. Since it sits on Sundance Square, It can be a trendy spot for a girls night out or a quiet place for two love birds on a date night. I am a big fan of the little patio that nestles in the back corner of the restaurant. It provides a great view of all the action going on and you can watch all the Ft. Worth by passers (people watching and conversation starters at its finest!) I'm not a huge on traditional TexMex, so I usually go for a seafood inspired dish at Mexican food restaurants. The chile garlic shrimp are simply fab and come at a great price- around $13 bucks. The Mambo Taxi is always a crowd pleaser!! I'll be honest...I waited a while to try one, because I just love a good ole' fashioned lime margarita, but holy be-jeezs! If you like margaritas, hop on this train sister! Its a fancy sangria swirled with traditional frozen margarita. Two of these and I'm singing along to the Mariachi music playing that I don't even know. Good thing the lights are somewhat dim in there in the evenings... Each time we have visited this location we have had good service (and one time we even had a party of 8 adults and 2 kiddos!) I love Tex-Mex food. Love it. Love it. Love it. I don't know why, but it tastes so good. My first night in Downtown Fort Worth, I was hell-bent on getting some good Tex-Mex cuisine. Walked in with our little group in our typical Florida attire (sandals, shorts, T-shirts) and we received some ugly glances from people. I guess they don't care for the casual or comfortable demeanor too much -- I don't really care, though. I like my shorts and sandals. Even with the nasty looks from employees and guests alike, we were seated without anyone mentioning our apparent transgression. As there was a 30 minute wait for interior seating, we chose to eat in the exterior patio area. It was a nice cool, slightly breezy night. I don't know wny anyone would WANT to sit inside on a night like this We were seated outside and began to look through the menus. Ordered our drinks and some appetizers. As the appitizers and drinks arrived, the rain began. Wow...not even seated for 5 minutes. The waiters were VERY helpful in moving us. We were moved to an interior table right away. The hostess was not pleased since we skipped people that had been waiting for 30 minutes. Maybe next time they should try waiting in the rain too. Serves them for being snobbish and pretentious. As we dried off, we reaquainted ourselves with the menu and ordered the following items: Chips and salsa Cheese Dip Chicken and rice soup Tacos de carne asada Fajitas Mix #11 (taco burrito arroz y frijoles and a cheese dip side) The chips and salsa were very good; the cheese dip was a yellow cheese and, while not stringy, was very much like eating Velveeta and Salsa mixed together. Why can't I find the white cheese???? I kept to the chips and salsa while the other two had the cheese dip. The chicken and rice soup came halfway through the cheese dip. There was a very strong tomato taste to it that somewhat blanketed the chicken and rice flavors, but overall, had a very nice flavor to it. As we were acclimating to the interior temperature and drying off, it became clear that many people come to this locale because it is a hip and trendy place in downtown. The people are loud and garish (I would rather dress-down in shorts and sandals than wear contrived and garish merchandise that they obviously paid too much for) and were drinking incessantly. I became a tad worried about my entree. The entrees arrived and smelled wonderful. Everyone has had fajitas at some point; these fajitas had the same components, but the flavor was definitely some of the best I have had in a while. The tortillas were fresh -- god, I love fresh tortillas -- and the onions were thin and carmelized. Very good. I didn't get to try anything for the #11 with the exception of the cheese dip; again, it was like Velveeta sauce with the addition of either habanero or serrano. The tacos de carne asada came wrapped in flour tortillas and were bulging with meat. The flavor was wonderful. I had a side of tomatillo sauce delivered and relished in the flavor of the beef, fresh guacamole, and tomatillo sauce. I had two extra flour tortillas to work with, so I made four tacos out of the two. I would definitely recommend this dish. The promptness of the service and the niceties of the waiters definitely helped this restaurant. The lack of a good cheese dip, the loud and pretentious atmosphere, and the unfriendly hostess detract from the whole. I want to return; probably will not go on a Friday night again, though. And, yes, I will return in shorts and sandals. read more

The food is certainly great here. Very fresh, authentic Tex Mex with a wide selection of combinations available to please any appetite. The brisket tacos and guacamole were awesome and certainly everything I could hope for, however the enchilada was a bit dry as if the beans were scorched and then reconstituted. Nonetheless, I will definitely be going back for seconds to try out the rest of the menu. The outdoor seating is excellent and truly the only way to go- nothing says authentic Tex Mex like eating on a patio in nice weather. The drinks were excellent, in reference to my 'Mambo Taxi,' and definitely worth the order, though the only drawback is the price point on them. I was pleasantly surprised by this place. We got the rib eye fajitas and they were AMAZING. Seriously, a must have when you are there. Their margaritas were awesome as well. So hard to find a simple, good margarita. We also ordered the queso blanco and it was just okay. Not horrible, but not that great either. I would try the other queso that they have or none at all. For lunch, you can be in and out of this place pretty quick if you order promptly. Get one of their specials, they are cheap and if you order water you can get out of their for well under $10. The chips and salsa are ok, the chips taste like theyre out of a bag, but the salsa is good and they keep both of them coming complimentary. The Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas are good, as well as their cheese enchiladas and plain crunchy beef tacos. If you get there early before the lunch rush, you can be in and out in around 20-30 mins. If you get there around 1230, it may take 30-45 minutes or longer. The food is the best Mexican in downtown Fort Worth, but if you want to drive over to Foch Street, try La Familia, it is better but not really in downtown. read more

I've heard about this place from friends, particularly, I've heard about the mambo taxis from friends. Well, these drinks were definitely pretty delicious. And the food did not disappoint either. I had the beef tacos plate which came with rice, beans, guac and the freshest pico you could imagine! The beef fajitas were pretty good, but not the best. I've had better fajitas in terms of spice, texture and taste. However, not bad. My friend had the brisket tacos. I tried one and I actually enjoyed these more than the fajita tacos. The brisket taco plate also comes with a poblano spiced rice which was seriously amazing. I had never tasted that kind of rice and it was so delicious! Service was not great here. Granted, we were a pretty big table. But you would think a place this popular would be used to serving big parties. If you have food allergies, fair warning! This place tried to kill me twice tonight! After being told of my allergy, was assured by waiter food would be allergen free. It wasn't. Sent it back politely knowing mistakes happen. New plate came, first taco was allergen free, next two were LOADED with my allergen! So sent it back again and ordered a plain chicken breast instead . (Can't kill me with that.) It was delivered after all the table had finished their dinner so I ate a few bites and was done. Manager came to the table and said he was sorry and would take care of it. Well bill came and yep you guessed it...was charged for the meal! You try to kill me twice then charge me! Really?!?! Paid the check and left. Won't be back! Lucky for them I didn't eat the taco. I am Mexican and it was good, but i wasn't wowed maybe, because i can cook these better ( i didn't cook myself food, because i am here on vacation). I always use the Hulen and I-30 location but since i work downtown i decided to fight 5pm traffic and limited parking spaces. I ordered a bowl of chicken and rice soup, and a cup of chicken tortilla soup. When i got home in Irving and was ready to eat i realized there was no chicken in either soup :(.... i ate the complementary chips and salsa for dinner. I was not feeling well and very dissapointed.
