For the Rockwall location-One star automatically for having an outdoor patio! The atmosphere of this place is great, indoors and out. The food was ok, nothing to write home about. Most places honestly does not really know what "street tacos" are and they make them too big. But then again, we are in Texas. I was looking for something not too smothered in cheese and sauce and this did it for me. The wine list was mediocre, but then again, I should have been drinking a margarita or Mexican beer ;) I give this place 3 stars, b/c of the service. Most people have problems with the lack of service, but I find that over abundance of service and trying to rush people out the door is a problem as well. Between my waiter and another guy (maybe manager) I was approached about 6 times during my short meal. My waiter even approached me mid-bite to ask if I wanted the check or dessert...this would have been great if my plate and glass were empty but alas, both were half full. I did let him know that was not acceptable..to ask someone mid bite if they want the check or dessert. I honestly took a look around me to see if a crowd had gathered. Also, I was eating lunch about 1:30pm, so there was not a rush of people by any means. I understand the need to ask patrons if they are ok...but this was rather annoying. Went to Mi Cocina Rockwall with a friend a couple of weeks ago and left my sunglasses on the table. I wasn't even aware that I had even left them until my friend received a Facebook message the next day. The message was from our server, Hugo, notifying us that we had left them on our table. Hugo went above and beyond tracking us down and I can't thank him enough. The food and drinks are always excellent but their service is spectacular. read more

We go to Mi Cocina often. Matter of fact it is really the only Mexican restaurant we go to. Josue is an excellent bartender. His sangria is fantastic! Carlos the manager is not only a snappy dresser he is the most hard working manager I have ever met. He is continuously serving patrons, bussing tables, talking to folks, whatever it takes to make sure people are served correctly. It feels like family when we go there. They know us by name, ask about our children and other things they know about us such as a recent vacation, etc. read more

Great food and friendly staff. The only issue I have is not the fault of the restaurant, it is that there are so many people that love this place that sometimes it is very hard to get a table... and if it is really crowded, you end up having to sit a little closer to strangers than people should due to the bench seating. read more

I love this place, but my phone was stolen yesterday either from the table or ladies room. I was away from there only 25 minutes before I was back looking for it. Sadly, it could not be located and no one knew anything. When we called, the phone had been turned off. There were two female employees in the restroom at the time I was helping my son go potty, and our table was cleared during that time. I feel confident Mi Cocina is employing a thief. I had it at the table, but did not leave with it in my possession. We locked the phone down and were able to track it twice, moving across southern Rockwall, but the thief has kept it turned off since. I will be hard pressed to return, as I do not feel the staff can be trusted. read more

Went to Mi Cocina on a Friday night @ 6 pm. Not too busy, seated right away. Our server was very friendly but unfortunately he did not speak or understand English very well. We ordered drinks first and that's when we found out that they do not have a soft drink fountain but you must buy each can of Coke at $1.75. I had Iced Tea and my husband had water. The water is served in a high ball glass, or half the size of a regular glass. The problem with that is that when you're eating chips and salsa that little bitty glass of water that's already full of ice it too small. The manager was walking around constantly filling water glasses. We waited almost an hour for the food to arrive. We had the Chicken Fajitas and a child's taco platter. My husband and I shared the Fajitas since I don't eat much and he has all of it but one soft tortilla full which I eat. There was some misunderstanding when we ordered, he kept saying we wanted half beef half chicken and I kept correcting him saying no, just the chicken. The fajitas came half beef half chicken and we sent them back. The server said, that's what you ordered and I said again..no just chicken. The food was back in less than five minutes which was surprising since it took almost an hour to get it. They put these weird thick slices of potato on top of the meat...they were half baked and hard in the middle, those were discarded, there were two tiny slices of green pepper and a huge mound of onions, none of which were well cooked. The onions and pepper were nearly raw, not caramelized at all. When the bill came, they had charged us $2.50 for extra Guacamole which we didn't order and $1.50 for about a tablespoon of sour cream that we did order. Our bill still said Beef Fajitas too but at least they cost the same as chicken. The manager removed the extra Guac charge. We left, wont return, not impressed. We'll go back to OTB. Saturday comes round and I start to feel a bit queasy. Then my husband starts to get sick. We are both sick all day Saturday and into Sunday. All the classic symptoms of food poisoning. My husband was up until 8 am Sunday morning, no sleep all night. He was so sick and constantly running to the toilet. Needless to say, we will never go back to Mi Cocina. Go at your own risk. The only good thing is that our daughter did not get sick, thank goodness. read more

I'm a huge Mi Cocina fan, especially of the one in downtown Fort Worth. I couldn't believe how mediocre this one was. What a disappointment.

This at least my 6th visit to this location. This is expensive Mexican food and it continues to be flavorless and cold. I have specifically ordered different items each time thinking it would change my opinion. Ambiance is great but I am done giving chances to fair food and drinks that are also nothing to return to. read more

Went here with several adult relatives. I was Leary because of reviews that I read but said I would try it. I felt it was a chain restaurant trying trying be upscale by raising prices. My food was NOT good. I ordered a simple combo of a cheese enchilada, pork tamale, and a beef taco. The taco was tasteless and was so salty I could hardly eat it. My enchilada and tamale were so laden with chili powder and red sauce I could taste nothing but chili powder. The only thing that was good was the refried beans. Everything tasted like a bad TV dinner. In fairness, the rest of my relatives dinners were okay. The spinach enchiladas, bean soup, and chicken enchiladas with plobano chili sauce were reportedly very good. The margaritas were just ok and the salsa was very spicy with little flavor. I would not return if I can help it. read more

Thought the service was great and the food was very good. Every server, hostess, manager, and even busters seemed genuinely happy to be working there. Our server was extremely patient and kind with our 5 crazy kids. The shrimp brochette was amazing! read more

Ok so me and my wife travel 30 minutes once and maybe twice a week from Caddo Mills to go to the Rockwall location. I read some of the other reviews and here is what I have to say. If you received bad service at this location then there definitely has to be something wrong with you. Maybe you are just too picky. Maybe you are just too demanding and your mommy always made it all your way. I don't know but the TRUTH be known, I have NOT EVER received bad service at this location. Not one time!!!! I think its about time I say so. All the staff is wonderful and the management is very personable and care about their patrons. The managers will actually introduce themselves and ask how is your service. Wow. We enjoy our servers. Tim, Maria, Casey, Kim, and any one of the servers is great and are all trained very well. So come out to the Rockwall location and try a Mambo Taxi and you will be hooked too. See you this week at Mico :-) read more

Would have given this a zero. Arrived 4:30 pm on a Monday. Place NOT busy yet it still took 15 minutes to have our order taken. Daughters meal was wrong when 20 minutes later it finally arrived but strangely it only took them 2 minutes to correct. When it was obvious we had finished the waiter spent five minutes cleaning the table with us there instead of bringing us the check. When check -book arrives there was no receipt in it. Took another five minutes to get the receipt so we could pay and then I see that EACH soda can was $1.75!!!!!!! Come on now that is insane. My food was blander than Taco Cabana on a bad day. Being a former customer of the MI Cocina in Addison, I was shocked at how bad the Rockwall location was for lunch today. Went at 12:30 on Friday they were fairly full but not busy. The chips are think and cold, the food about as good as El Fenix on a good day. The meat was dry and had no flavor. Portions were ok but not for a $30 lunch. The only thing that was as good as my memory of Addison was the Sunset sauce, it is still really good. Next time I want Mexican food in Rockwall I will go to Glorias or better, Luna de Noche! read more

So much money, so little for it. What I mean the M group has alot of money which means they can build beautiful restaurants, but thats where the beauty ends. The service at all Mi Cocinas ranks from mediocre to abysmal. Most of the wait staff struggle with English, understandable, but they also struggle with manners. First, they push the "mambo taxi" a very expensive swirl margarita, made with cheap tequila, tomorrow, a headache, for you. Then most of the young, inexperienced waiters are scatter brained at best, they don't write down your order, impressive, no, because they forget your order, especially if you want changes. The chips are always too hard and cold, they were made alot time before your arrival. Everytime we order the chicken fajitas, and that too, was made along time before you got there, the cooks stage the chicken in a steamer pot; after grilling it hours before your arrival; these birds have the consistency of a boot. Truly, if not for their location and the architecture, Mi Cocinas would not make it. read more

I went to this restaurant with my family for the first time. We are new to the area and we're looking for a good mexican restaurant. My husband read the reviews. It seemed to be a good restaurant to try. Let me just say that the food was great, but the service was horrible. It was me, my husband and two children that went to dinner around 3:30pm. When we first arrived at the restaurant, it took almost five minutes to be seated. You would think that one of the two servers would have let us know that someone would be with us, but that didn't happen. The hostess finally came and seated us. One basket of chips was given to us. We asked our server for more chips, but took ten minutes two times to ask her. She was just horrible! Come to find out, she was in the back of the restaurant eating her dinner at the same time that she was waiting on our table. She brought out the check when we were still eating. Apparently she was getting off at 4:00pm and we were holding her up from leaving. We left less than a 15% tip. She's lucky she got anything. read more

The food is great here, but it's not tough to find great Tex-Mex in the DFW area. The reason that I rate this Mi Cocina location so highly is because of the service. Truly, from the wait staff to the managers, we've always received excellent care, every time we've dined there. In the years we've been going, my wife and I had our first child. Ever since he was an infant, they always made a point to come and check on him as well, ask what they could do or bring for him. Carlos, one of the managers there, always takes excellent care of us, making a point to come by to sit with us and chat, recommend some "off-menu" dishes, and catch up on the latest with our family and his. A server (I believe his name is Christian), who waited on us once, saw us again in the restaurant several weeks later. We weren't at one of his tables, but he came by to say hello and remembered our son's name. These are just a couple of examples as to why our family will continue returning to Mi Cocina! read more

Quite possibly the worst Mexican food I have ever had. Visited last night; never been there before. And, it was my s/o's birthday. The salsa was abysmal and I hesitate to even call it salsa as it was little more than crushed canned tomatoes with perhaps a bit of garlic and hot pepper sauce. I neither saw nor tasted any onion, cilantro or jalapeno. The chips were just so-so; you can buy better in the Tom Thumb deli. I ordered a combination plate with a cheese enchilada and a tamale. Both were swimming in grease. The tamale was so heavily spiced that it was largely inedible. I like heat, but not so much that it compromises flavor. The enchilada contained very little cheese wrapped in a grease soaked corn tortilla and topped with something akin to Wolf Brand Chili. The rice was mediocre; the refried beans again were over seasoned and unpleasant. My husband ordered the Chicken Poblano Enchiladas which he described as "nothing to write home about." The bill for this meal was $26 and I consider the experience both a waste of time and money. My advice - don't bother. read more

Went tonight for first time. Ordered margarita frozen. What i got was a liquor icee. No flavor at all not even a hint of lime! Sent it back and begrudgingly ordered a strawberry one. Was so so. Was it Worth 10.00...NO WAY! Food arrived but server didnt. Manager happened to walk by and told him we had been out of hot sauce for a while but no one had been back. He brot more and then had to bring us more chips cuz server still wasnt around. Hubby had to make it thru whole meal with only one glass of water... No one offered him a second and manager had disapeared . At end of meal surprise... Server appears and offers me another margarita i declined but hubby was never offered more water. FINAL WORD.... Stay away!!!!! No wonder they were not busy at 645 on a saturday night!! We wasted 31.00 on a 10.00 maragrita and mediocre food. Go to el chico or on the border... Horrible experience for the last time. I live in Rockwall and have been several times. The last two times the service was horrible, same waitress. They have really big issues here. First we set down, get chips and that's the last we seen of a waitress. We had to motion for the manager or drinks, he called another waitress to wait on us. Then another waitress took over, I have had her waiting on our table before....last experience was not good. So I decided to try again....same thing. Combative with the manager if her waited on her table, and just a horrible waitress..she passed our table several times before asking again did we need anything. The drinks are not what they say they are, ordered three Vodka straight with soda....nothing...not even a buzz....(RIGHTING WITH TEENAGE DAUGHTER). Drink these pretty much every night and about the first one, have a little tingle...nothing here. I think I was drinking water. MOBO TAXI overrated. I think the entire restaurant needs an overhaul. It was about 4:00 when we arrived and service was already non-existent. We (my best friend) and daughter have decided that this was the last straw...not going back and intent on calling corporated and TABC for and inspection of alcoholic beverages...something's not right there. Going to spread the word....don't waste your time there. OH....Not to mention three other tables in our area had similar issues....no service...food not correct and a 40 minute wait. DONE WITH MI COINA.....Just my first complaint publicly ! read more
