It was smothered in this green chile cheese sauce that I was scooping up with chips well after the chile itself was gone. Molcajete: FANTASTIC sauce. Wasn't crazy about the nopal - but I'm never a big fan. Although I was impressed that it was prepared well - it wasn't slimy like nopales can be. My hubby and I got a little hungry and decided to stop by El Durango. We walked in and two of the cooks looked at us through the little window and didn't say anything. We walked up to the counter and still didn't say anything. I said "HELLO!!" and a young girl with ten pounds of makeup came out of the back and asked us what we wanted. We looked at the to go menu and decided on the shrimp and fish taco plate that came with rice and a side salad. Fish taco was ok. Shrimp taco was a little salty. I thought this place was pretty average. Nothing special. The food was okay, but it's just like many other Tex-Mex places where you get a crapload of rice and refried beans and not much else. Their chile relleno was smothered in cheese and was not prepared in the traditional way. The tacos were okay, but too much lettuce and tomato inside and not enough real content. I have been going to this place for about a year, and every time I'm there I always have a good experience. The people are friendly, the service is fast, and the their set up is very nice. The sopes are delicious(it's my mine and my girlfriend's favorite), they are huge, and the meat on them is delicious, very tasty. It is served with an avocado sauce that it is simply delicious. The wet burrito!!!!! Wow, just thinking about it gives me a foodgasm!!! The burrito is huge, the meat is delicious, the red sauce, and the cheese over that burrito....wow. I've also had a molcajete, which is a tasty variety of chicken, meat, and chorizo, in a tasty red sauce with some green onions, cactus, and what I believe is queso freso on the side. All this yummy goodness is served on a molcajete, a giant rock bowl, where everything is cooked in, so the rock bowl itself is sizzling hot. I had never had this before this place, and I have had it many more times after my first experience. There are so many good things I could say about this place, and tell you how wonderfully delicious it is, like the mi durango taco, which is a simple yet very tasty taco with meat and chorizo in it, but your taste buds will thank you for it. I had really high hopes for this place because of the great reviews it got on yelp, but it was really disappointing. We came on a Sunday to a completely empty restaurant, that should have been my first sign to leave, but we stubbornly stayed. When my husband and I got our waters, there was an ant in his glass. The waitress quickly fixed it, and admitted that they have been having a bit of an ant problem in the dining room. Our chips and salsa were actually really good, so I had high hopes for my dinner. My plate looked beautiful when it arrived, but the flavor did not match the appearance. Everything was pretty bland and boring, nothing to write home about. All I can say is: MOLCAJETE!!!! $14.99 is pretty pricy but very well worth it. It comes with carne asana, chorizo, chicken, nopal, onion and cheese. They serve it sizzling and place it on the table. Served with rice and beans. Handmade tortillas only on weekends. The MOLCAJETE sauce it comes with is really good! I thought I was going to be disappointed since I was looking for authentic Mexican food and thought the TEXMEX was going to ruin it. Very authentic Mexican dish! Maybe the burritos are but I've heard nothing but good things about them. This place is great! We came with a group of 14. The food is delicious and generous in portion. I like it spicey and they can make it so. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They checked ingredients for our obscure allergies. The waitress was excellent. Knowledgeable, prompt, and got everything right, even special requests and splitting the check 5 ways! (Thank you!) I was a bit hesitant to check this place out before, because, at first glance, I was skeptical of the five star reviews written here so far (short reviews, inactive reviewers). That was until a colleague gave me a rave review of the place, saying he had the best Chile Relleno there. I couldn't pass it up any longer; I went for lunch the next day. I am not very well versed in Mexican food, Texas food, and definitely not on TexMex food, so I cannot really vouch for the authenticity of the dishes served in Mi Durango. What I can vouch for is that the food I have had here, in the few times I've stopped by for lunch, were all delicious. Everything I've tried so far--tacos, chile relleno, and entomatatas--have not disappointed (not super amazing, but good, with tasty non overbearing flavors). I was always satisfied. The food portions were plentiful, which is too much for me since I probably eat relatively light. I would take smaller portions for a bit cheaper price, all my lunch meals have cost north of 10 bucks, a bit too much for my lunch budget. All in all, I am a fan. Recommended. read more

We work right down the way from this location and usually order breakfast burritos from Mi Durango (who actually know how to cook) i ordered a breakfast burrito "Bacon, Egg, Cheese and Beans ONLY!" The guy messed up when making it the first time and added salsa, we nicely asked him to remake the burrito again "Bacon, Egg, Cheese and Beans ONLY!" Now I'm at my office, i take a bite and i get a mouth full of onions and cilantro. NO cheese and only one strip of bacon. How hard are direct directions? As someone who used to work in the food industry, who used to prepare breakfast for customers, following direction is NOT that difficult, especially when there is not one other patron in the establishment. When you first walk in, the decor feels authentic and inviting. The music was a great touch, not too loud but just enough to enjoy.
