I forgot what drinks we ordered but it was absolutely delicious lol But the foods we ordered were... Ceviche Clasico w/ Plantain chips 4.5/5 It was perfectly balanced. Fish was fresh and tender. Loved the different textures from crunchy corn nuts to the softness of the sweet potatoes and a tender chew from the halibut and the crispy plantains. It was fun, flavorful and had us craving for more. Karaage 4/5 Nicely seasoned but wished it was more tender and crispy. The sauce is exceptional. Shishito Peppers 4/5 Absolutely delicious. Loved the quinoa on it which gave it an interesting chewy tiny crunch texture. Tasty as well. Ambience 4/5 The decoration is nicely done. It's cool that we're on the rooftop and we should be able to get a nice scenic view but most of it was covered by the railing from where we sat. Some areas get a better view than others which I noticed. Our tables weren't as clean as I thought it would be considering the restaurant is mid to high end. There were a lot of stickiness on my side of the table. Staff 5/5 Super friendly, very detailed oriented and hospitable. Checked in regularly but not invading. 2/5 Stars My husband and I chose Kaiyo Rooftop to celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary. We had reservations and were seated quickly after arriving. The host at the elevator was friendly and welcoming, and we appreciated how smoothly we were seated. Unfortunately, the rest of our experience was disappointing. We were seated in the far corner of the rooftop with virtually no view, which was the main reason we chose this restaurant in the first place. Our table was uneven and wobbly, and the tabletop itself was covered in a sticky, tacky film--possibly from a recently applied finish. It was uncomfortable enough that I placed a napkin over the table. My water glass also appeared cloudy, with a noticeable white residue. We ordered our first round of drinks, which were good. However, when our server returned, he asked if we planned to order food. We told him we were just going to enjoy drinks, and instead of asking if we'd like another round, he simply walked away. It left us feeling like we were no longer worth serving because we weren't ordering dinner. We decided to pay for our drinks and leave to eat somewhere else. I'm giving two stars: one for the drinks, which were enjoyable, and another for the friendly host and the second server who later checked on us and promptly brought our check. Kaiyo is worth adding to your San Francisco list! It is a hidden gem rooftop bar/restaurant. The rooftop views are incredible, especially at sunset, and it's the perfect spot for photos and selfies! I visited during the winter, and their seasonal hot toddy was the perfect drink for the chilly weather. We also tried two different types of oysters (the creamy/milky was my favorite), sushi, and the Wagyu sliders - which were hands down the best thing we ordered. If they're still on the menu, definitely give them a try! There was plenty of seating, we were seated quickly, and the overall atmosphere was amazing. Hmmm not sure about this place. 2.5/5 stars but I'm rounding up due to location and view. They have a good size menu with plenty of options but nothing wowed me. The shrimp ceviche came with whole shrimp which I wasn't used to. The plantain chips that should be included with the fish are an additional $8. I wouldn't say it was traditional Peruvian ceviche by any means. The veggie gyoza were okay, could use a little more flavor even when dipped in the soy sauce. The Drinks were mid as well. The View/rooftop is limited depending on where you sit in the restaurant but saves this place. I don't think it would be doing welll if it wasn't for the view and location next to the stadium. I enjoyed this spot more than I thought! I went here for brunch, and the food was really great. I got a fried chicken and waffle dish basically, it was good and a solid portion size. The drinks were really good, my special request requested a whiskey, sour and the bartender definitely knew what he was doing. Lots of bathrooms as well which I think is really nice. read more

Came here with a couple friends on a Tuesday windy night before a dinner reservation later that evening. Took an elevator up to thw rooftop. There was bar, indoor and outside seating. Decided to sit outside with a view facing the city. It was really windy, our server asked if wanted blankets which we said yes to. There was also a heartedly above us where we were sitting. The drinks had interesting names. I got a coffee flavored one since I like an espresso martini. I think i prefer an espresso martini than the drink I tried. Maybe its the alcohol that was used in the cocktail that wasn't doing it for me and that I'm not used to. Nice rooftop for a date night! However the food is below average tasting. My friends and I came here Thursday night and it was a bit more than halfway booked with just a few tables open. We all got 3 things to share and only 1/3 was good. 1. Kaarage Pollo -- This is one of their petite bites. It's Japanese fried chicken but oh my when I took bites of it I was disappointed. It was too salty and the sauce they pair with it didn't help. I would not get this again... 2. Lima roll -- This roll was good for how simple it is! I recommend it! 3. Kaiyo roll -- This roll was just alright for me. I feel ehh about it. It's a 6.3/10. Try at your own will. It's really pretty at night! Came here on a Tuesday night for drinks and a light dinner. We had a reservation, so we were seated right away. The restaurant was hosting a private company event that night, so service was a little slower than usual. Considering how busy they were, it was understandable. The spicy miso soup was one of the highlights of the meal. It was simple, flavorful, and comforting. The papas fritas paired really well with the aji amarillo sauce. I ordered the Lomo Saltado Roll, but was served the Lima Roll instead. Since we had to leave earlier than planned, I didn't bother sending it back. It was decent, although it had a stronger fish flavor than I was expecting. The Spicy Tuna Roll was fine, but nothing particularly memorable. The Mango Cocktail was probably the best thing I tried. Refreshing, well balanced and easy to drink which can be dangerous. The atmosphere and views are what really stand out here. The Japanese-Peruvian fusion concept is a great idea, and it's one of the reasons I wanted to try the place. Was really excited to try this place because it's been on my list for a while, but was disappointed. Service was slow, took some time to have our order taken and even longer for the food to come out. After ordering, the 2 rolls came out shortly, however the 2 orders of nigiri and 2 handrolls did not come out for another 20+ mins. I understand that dishes don't always come out at the same time, but the gap felt unusually long given how small our order was. A server let us know that it's due to them inputting the dishes periodically rather than all at once. We would have preferred for them be placed all at once so that the timing felt more cohesive. The servers weren't very attentive and it was difficult to get their attention. The food itself was good, presentation was nice, but the slow service unfortunately took away from the experience. Julian the bartender SAVED the night. Vibes were off from the moment I walked up to the elevator guy who complained to me that if I didn't make a reservation they would have gotten to go home early. Our reservation was at 7:45 pm and they close at 10. They sat us in the freezing cold outdoor area so we moved into the bar. Best decision ever because of Julian! He created wonderful mocktails since we don't drink and had us dying laughing the whole time. We had the miso black cod, miso corn, and the chicken sando. Everything was pretty good. I really liked the miso corn. It was seasoned perfectly and tasted fresh. The chicken sando had good flavor. The chicken was moist and the sauce they put on it went well with it. The salad was fresh, and the dressing was nice. I'm not sure what kind of dressing it was, but at least they didn't really overly drown the lettuce. The miso black cod was cooked perfectly, but it was a little salty. I would totally come again. They bar tenders were nice and gave good service. The place is clean and well kept. Nice view of the city. Plus, the had heater overhead in the main bar area to keep you warm. read more

Wow this has been on my list to try for awhile . We were heading to dinner in SF so I came early to go here. It is right across from where I was going to dinner so fantastic location. We arrived on a Saturday a little after 3PM and found a parking spot on the street just a ways down from the place. It was pay parking but affordable. We used the app and my wife already had it. Simple. The bar is on top of the Hyatt hotel. They have a separate entrance foe the rooftop bar. It's blocked off with metal guard rails with their logo on it. The receptionist walked us to the elevator and used her card to allow us up to the rooftop. Very nice and friendly. The elevator wasn't very fast. It was weird that they were playing Mexican music downstairs and when we got to the bar it was also Mexican. All of the staff at the bar were also Mexican. Kaiyo is Japanese but this place is a calibration with Peruvian and Japanese. We got off the elevator and was greeted by another receptionist for the bar. She asked if we had reservations but we didn't. I said I wanted to go to the bar. She said there were 12 seats there and just go outside and to the right. The place was really nice with some great views of the City. No one was at the bar so we sat at the far end. The bartender greeted us and gave us menus. There was one table taken while the rest of the place was empty. Mostly staff. It was overcast but not bad weather so that was good. I looked over the drink menu and was disappointed that they only have 3 of the Kaiyo brand whiskey. I had all 3 at home. Since the name of the place is Kaiyo it was saddening. I asked about other Japanese whiskies but they were out of stock of several brands. I was looking for the 2012 ones. I ended up going with a more expensive one the Suntory Hakushu 2018 for $100 bucks. It was smooth with a little bit of smoke. Nice We were hungry since I drove down to SF. We ordered the chicken Katsu Sado and the Miso black Cod. The food arrived but I got the sandwich and Miso-butter ribs which we didn't order. My wife caught it but the server left. I saw a manager and told him our order came out wrong. He checked on what we ordered and started to take the corn away but then he put it back and told us to enjoy it while we waited. So nice. The Chicken Katsu Sando was very good. We really liked it, cooked nicely. The Miso-butter corn ribs were good to. The husk in the middle made it like a rib since you couldn't eat it. Like a bone. The cod was taking awhile to come out and the manager came over and asked if we wanted some petit fours while we waited. Such a nice jester but we didn't want to ruin our dinner so I declined. Soon the cod came out and it was cooked perfectly but a bit salty. Liked it anyway. The service was amazing and the staff so nice. I like the setup of the bar and the rest of the tables. The look of the place was pretty. I didn't like the bar chairs at all. They dragged as you moved them and the metal bottoms would make metal scrapping sound very loudly when ever you moved around. They need to replace the chairs with nicer ones or fix the bottoms of the legs. Of course the views are incredible here. The rooftop access is from the side of the restaurant and definitely worth to get a seat up there. There is a bar at top, with tables that are outside an enclosure roof or tables with open roof. Both have heat lamps to keep people cozy at night. Overall food alone is not the best, but the vibes and ambiance of it being a rooftop seeing the sunset is a nice spot for date night. However, there is one tall building in the center of the view horizon line that really ruins the view, but what can you do? A bit small for sure, but we do enjoyed the ponzu sauce more than the other leche de tigre on the oyster. Tasted fresh and clean, very much enjoyed these over a nice sunset at happy hour price too. 3.8/5 - Lima Roll - This tasted decent, but had better rolls in sushi restaurants. The fish tasted fresh and sauce was good and flavorful, but for the price i wish it got a specialty or flavor that is more memorable. 3.6/5 - Drinks, I don't remember exactly what I got, but look of each cocktail was quite unique and I got one holiday drink that looks like an ornament. I thoroughly enjoyed dining at Kaiyo Rooftop and working with event coordinator Giselle to create the perfect company holiday happy hour. We booked a section from 4-6 PM for 10-15 people with three appetizers- I opted for two platters of anticuchos de pollo, yucca fries, and beef empanadas. We also ordered the Kaiyo favorites- nigiri (30 pieces) and rolls (48 pieces), along with a two hour beverage package charged for every guest- inclusive of all drinks $20 and under including cocktails, wine, beer, and beverages. I also ordered a side of French fries and avocado edamame dip with plantain chips! Avocado edamame was the collaboration I never knew I needed, but that went together very well. The holiday cocktails were delicious and came in cute cups. The Alejandro was quite popular, and the non-alcoholic mocktails were also creatively curated and allowed my coworkers and I to celebrate without needing to get tipsy. Our server was quite attentive and it was easy to get his attention. The food was great, no complaints there. The view is gorgeous and the outdoor heaters help so much in the chilly winter SF weather! Christmas decorations in the lobby and at the bar allowed us to get in quite the festive mood. My friend and I dined here, caught up with libations and a few shareables. The must order is the Mac and cheese, sumptuous in every definition of the word. Truly might be the best Mac and cheese in the bay. Dare I say, the country? So unassuming as a side dish but truly (what I deem) a crown jewel of the restaurant. I'm happy I arrived when i did, since all the spots at the bar were almost snagged. For my drink, I had the Cobra and oh my! It was so delicious. I'm a girl who loves a girly cocktail and this hit on every cylinder. Fruity, refreshing, and in a cute mug. I was so happy to be sipping on this. For dinner, I had the tuna and yellowtail ceviche and it was so fresh and yummy. The plating was beautiful and almost too lovely to eat....almost. Great little rooftop bar and dining on the 12th floor of the Hyatt Place hotel on 3rd St. We were staying in the hotel so we decided to check it out before heading to the Giants game. Staff was friendly, from the guy greeting at the door to our server. I had a Passionfruit Pisco sour which was delicious. And we tried the Tuna and Avocado sushi roll. It tasted fresh and well seasoned. The views of the city are pretty nice too. They have a DJ playing music and the place gets pretty happening later at night after ballgames. I would recommend a reservation if you know you're coming. Even though we didn't have one when we first showed up it was early and we were able to get a seat at the bar however we popped in the next day after the game and the place was packed standing room only and even if a table opened up, you couldn't just sit down. We all really liked the food. The service was meh. It took forever to get our order taken, then they didn't want to give us hot water for some reason. They complained when I asked for the special Cobra lady cup with a different drink inside. Our bill was $300 and they didn't really thank us for dining with them. We didn't have a reservation, so I asked Lizzie up front if there was any way to get a table. She went above and beyond and found us a spot for an hour and 15 minutes despite how busy it was -- such a nice surprise and much appreciated. Food-wise, we ordered the shrimp, mac & cheese, and yuca fries, and everything was excellent. The mac & cheese in particular was a standout -- easily the best bite of the night. Went here last Friday to celebrate a birthday dinner, and we couldn't have picked a more perfect night weather wise, no jacket needed! When you first arrive, you enter through the side of the building and the attendant will check your ID before showing you to the elevator where they have to key you up to the top floor where the restaurant is. For starters we got the fried shrimp which was pretty good, just wish it was a little crispier. Good amount of shrimp for the order which was nice. We got a bunch of sushi rolls, and honestly I had low expectations but it ended up being pretty good. The braised short rib was probably my favorite of all the dishes. Not a huge portion but the meat was really tender and had a lot of flavor. The one that disappointed me was the miso cod. I like salt, but damn this had a lot of salt, kinda overpowering the dish. I asked the server it was always this salty, and they said yeah, probably wouldn't order again. Drinks were good as well. Stuck with an espresso martini and tequila/sodas which were standard. They have a pretty extensive cocktail menu and the people I was with enjoyed their drinks as well. When the bill came, they charged us an automatic 20% gratuity, which I thought was only for parties of 6 or more (according to their menu on the website). Either way, I'm not gonna lie, I've always been disappointed with rooftop bars/restaurants, but Kaiyo definitely exceeded expectations. We arrived at Kaiyo Rooftop full of excitement and high hopes. The ambiance provided stunning views, and the customer service was truly commendable. The highlight of the evening for me was the pisco sour; it was genuinely one of the best drinks I've ever tasted. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite match our expectations. We sampled the vegetarian gyoza, lomo saltado roll, miso black cod, and yucca fries. The roll and fries were decent but not exceptional, and the gyoza, while fresh, lacked flavor. The miso black cod was quite fishy with soggy skin, which was disappointing. For us, this spot might be a one-time visit. If I return, I'd probably just enjoy a pisco sour and some yucca fries and call it a day. read more

The hostess doesn't get paid enough!!!!!! She was the best. It was a Friday afternoon and the line to get in was deep. No reservation and was able to get a table. It took some time but that was expected. The bar area gets PACKED!!! Drinks here are okay. The view is cute and the sushi was good.
