Jeff was our server. I never had to ask or wait for refills on anything. The patio is pretty big, in addition to a covered outdoor seating area. It's also smoker friendly. The margaritas here are on point! They don't have your classic frozen mango margarita. Instead, they purée fresh mango in a lime margarita and they're delicious. The chips didn't taste like they were made in-house, and the queso was definitely your classic melted Velveeta in a bowl, but I'm okay with that. The wife and I stopped here on our way out to the airport for lunch. The chips and salsa were very good and you can tell the salsa was definitely homemade. It had a little bit of kick to it as well. My wife had the combo plate with a beef enchilada and a crispy beef taco. Since her crispy taco was placed in the middle of her plate it was doused with the enchilada sauce and soggy. I had two beef and enchiladas and a side taco. Interestingly, they brought up my taco on a separate plate so it was quite crispy. The enchiladas were pretty good as where the beans, but the rice was bland at best. The cost of the meal was quite surprising with it being about $33 for what we ordered above +2 teas. The service was a little slow as we had to ask for more chips a couple of times. All in all we like supporting locally owned places in this one was OK. I search high and low for the best tacos in Austin. I've tried a lot of places. It's not only the taco, it's the hand made tortilla, the salsa and mostly importantly the in between. Sadly, Mi Madres only satisfied with their salsa. The tortilla tasted purchased, not hand made. The in between I ordered was carnitas. It came with avocado. It's uncommon to put avocado with carnitas but I like trying new things. It wasn't balanced so that's where the salsa comes into play. The green salsa was very good. My other half ordered 3 beef fajita tacos with cilantro and avocado. Beware the avocado is $2 per taco!! Overall we paid $45 for 5 tacos and 2 drinks. I order a Margarita and the special of the day (chicken thingy, wrapper and fried, forgot the name). The complementary chips and salsa were fresh, crispy, and flavorful; the Margarita well made, and the chicken thingy deliciously. There is no decor to speak of. The forks were flimsy. I really wish Yelp would allow 1/2 stars because I really think this place is a 3.5. Big pluses: free, warm tortilla chips with a nice spicy salsa, quick and attentive server, and close to our place. Minuses: 25 minutes for breakfast tacos seemed a bit long to wait for and their #7 taco reminded us of those microwave meat and cheese burritos you get in high school. This is a good place to go to in a pinch but it's not somewhere I'd place high on my list of places for breakfast tacos. I hear Veracruz is a tastier option but they're closed on Tuesdays. I thought that their #9 machaca was decent. If they put on some salsa fresca I think it would've finished it off just nicely...being a California guy I like having the extra veggies and the avocado in my Mexican foods. Followed the advice of many and visited Mi Madre's. The first two "Other places" we started at stopped service breakfast at 11:00 so these guys were on it at 12:30. All fresh tasting, fresh made tortillas, great space to sit in patio and even a nice Ca tina if you want a little Tequilla or Cerveza you have that too. read more

I'd lived minutes away for at least 18 months before trying this place. Frankly, it sounded like a lot of hype for expensive tacos and breakfast plates on Hipster Street ATX. I'm here to tell you I was wrong to be suspicious. Why? 1) The venue is nicer than it looks from outside! Divided into four distinct areas, there's a spot in here that will definitely suit you (outdoors, fans, wooden booths, take your pick). 2) The service was impeccable on a weekend afternoon. Our server checked in multiple times, another employee snuck some salsas into our leftovers, and the table next to us had a monster customer who sent back two orders in a row for the cheese not being "melty enough," and the waitress handled the whole thing like a pro, comping them despite this person clearly being an entitled jerk. 3) The food is good, and a borderline good value for the price. We got breakfast plates and the New Mexico comes to you on a dish the size of Captain America's Vibranium shield. Eggs? Perfectly cooked. Green Salsa? Tangy? Pork Advoada? Dope, but a bit fatty. Beans? Glad you asked. Top five beans in Austin. Maybe the best. Well seasoned, excellent texture with some mashed and some whole. Potatoes? Salty and fried-tastic on the outside, not the least bit soggy on the inside. The migas plate kept the same great beans/'toes and had a whopping helping of quality egg + pico mixed with cheese and their truly excellent tortilla chips, which stayed firm and proud where other migas in this town collapse in soggy shame. If I had to boil it down to two factors, it would be the textures (chips, migas, beans, even the rustic thick-pureed salsa) and the portions (we were two people, and this was enough for brunch and dinner later that night), combining to make this a gem of the overhyped Manor eateries. Am I forgetting to mention the free chips + salsa for everyone? Or their boozy cafe de olla boracho which comes in what's basically a freakin' stein? Well, now I'm not, 'cause I wrote it. Small, very limited parking...and we seen that in previous reviews, so we plan in out and go after the Lunch rush...that always seams to work out. Everyone is very friendly...Warm chips and Salsa hit the table. I would definitely label this as "Creeper" salsa. The heat sneaks up on you and is extremely addictive. The Queso was good and the price is fair, as it is quit large. And as with most places, we seam to always add a couple scoops of Salsa, especially when its this good, to kick up the spice in the Queso. New place we always start with our basics...Chiladas...Wife with Ground Beef, Red Sauce...I with the Chicken, and Green Sauce. Now there was a small mix up with the wifes...They brought out Cheese, instead of Beef...With that came an apology and a new plate..Not a big deal, as they were fast to react. Both the Red and Green Sauce were unique on there own. Something totally different from what we have had in the past (100+ TexMex/Mex)...which is truly exciting. Her Read sauce was deep in smoky goodness, and as with the Salsa, had a bit of the creepy spice to it. Really Good!!...And the Green was just as good, with a Tart Tomatillo Flavor, and a lot thicker then most I have tried. The chicken inside was moist and tender. Rice was good...fresh and light...Charros were the bomb...I thicker style, almost BBQ style, with meat and a great Mexican flavor. This might sound blasphemous, but I would skip the migas here and go for the breakfast tacos. I wouldn't waste precious stomach real estate on anything but these. They're cheap, large, and delicious and you really only need two to be satisfied. I had potato and egg and added cheese and avocado. Get extra salsa so you can liberally douse each one. The salsa has the perfect amount of heat. The migas were pretty good too, of course. The patio was pretty pleasant on our visit and the service was friendly. If you have a wait at Vivo, you should seriously consider just bailing and getting Mi Madre's instead. It's cheaper, faster, and has a ridiculous amount of seating. I had the Chile Relleno (I think I always get these now) and was unable to finish it because a) it was a huge serving and b) I ate too many chips. The ranchero sauce on the relleno was perfectly spicy. Service was prompt and friendly. The guy in charge of chips and salsa refills was on his game. My New Year's resolution is to get out to more restaurants. We were actually headed to Hoover's for breakfast and they had changed their hours. Right down street was Mi Madre's tacos and it was busy. Parking is limited but we got a spot. Very friendly and cute and room after room which I love. Tons of breakfast tacos and other entrees. Coffee was great. Server was so sweet. It was damp so we did not sit outside, but there is a cute outdoor area. I had black bean, cheese taco and bacon, egg, potato and cheese. Very good. We put the awesome salsa you get when you sit down on it too. Four tacos, 2 coffees was 21.00 plus tip. Will be back. Wednesday night $5.00 margaritas and Austin's Best Mariachi Band. My review is for the tacos - I have not had the main dishes. This is an ok taco joint, but definitely not my favorite one in Austin. You will get a lot of food for the price, but the quality of the ingredients and flavor of the food is not all that great, at least for the tacos. The barbacoa taco is extremely greasy, and the crunchy beef taco doesn't have a whole lots of flavor/spice. The chips and salsa are pretty good though. Parking is pretty easy here for the location - there is some lot parking and nearby neighborhood street parking.
