Its flavors are delicate and beautiful. It's not covered in a batter of eggs and flour. Hence the name. My husband enjoys the corn tequila. Nixta. He says it's flavor is unique and nice to sip. I hadn't been to this location in a few years, I was actually thankful for Mexicali being closed on Monday (we had forgotten) and that because of that we ended up here. Lunch specials...I'll be back for them! I had the combo with the two shredded beef tacos and "cup" of Pozole for $11, it was delicious. The cup was actually a large bowl and the best Pozole I've ever had. It's chicken, not pork, and filled with it. The broth is the perfect spice and full of so much flavor. I really wanted ground beef tacos instead of shredded beef, but there are no substitutions allowed. That being said, their tacos are bomb! The restaurant is abiding by COVID-19 regulations with face masks, spatial distancing, and provided outdoor dining areas. 5/5 Crispy chips and salsa with some heat also came packaged in my to go order; this was an unexpected and welcomed surprise. The tortilla chips had just the right crunch. 5/5 The mariscos poblanos specialty entree is a creamy chili verde sauce over succulent shrimp, small scallops, and white fish with sides of fluffy soft rice, and beans that come with hot off the grill corn/flour tortillas to wrap all this yummy in. In Bakersfield one night, I had to try Nuestros. The Chile Relleno and Cheese Enchilada are fantastic. Very tasty and lots of Cheese. I could tell that the sauces used were homemade. First time dining at Nuestro. I've lived here all my life and never been. My husband and I lately are trying new local places outside our comfort zone, and this will be another restaurant to add to our favorites! As you walk in, you notice the space is not ridiculously larger, and not too small. The staff is incredibly nice and kind. One of the waiters reminded me of my grandpa. The food was amazing. It was so fresh, and so delicious. I ordered the chicken fajitas and my husband got the Tacos Pastor (seasoned with pastor seasoning but made with steak). I hit their lunch time special for the first time over the holiday -- what a deal!! It's a small menu (about 8-10 items) but all great options for only $10! My husband had the chili verde burrito, which was mildly spicy with a smooth tanginess to it. I loved the bite I had of it, and he completely cleared his plate! I had the fish filet in a spicy buttery chili sauce. Oh! It was light, flavorful and filling. We ate here on the way. Unfortunately this restaurant isn't as vegetarian friendly as it seems. Their chips were warm and the salsa was spicy and tasty. I got the potato taco and the cheese enchilada. The potatoes were undercooked. There was too much cheese in everything. The beans are cooked in lard so they had to give us a lard free version. The rice is cooked in chicken stock so we couldn't eat that either. The staff seemed very nice however. Very thankful that they explained everything to us, they were very honest. We got LUNCH: 2 entrees (about $20/$21 a piece) and 1 beer (in a can, not even draft) was $47 + tax This place is HELLA overpriced, wanting to charge like we're in the bay area and all upscale. Lol. This is Bakersfield, OK. Bakersfield. OK so now that we got that out of the way. I got the 2 al pastor tacos with rice and beans. Menu showed it as a Yelp favorite. beans: tasted like they came from a can, they're not even from la olla but tried to pass them off as such. You know when they're homemade vs a can. Rice: it was flavorful and fluffy. Al pastor: I've had a TON of al pastor tacos, they're my favorite kind, and these missed the mark. Meat was good and tender, but it's more like adobado or something. I would not call them al pastor. Chicken flautas: they were OK but not worth the price. We weren't checked on during the meal to see if we needed anything. Oh, and they have a Yelp check in for free fried ice cream WITH a $50 minimum. We were at $47. LMAO. My throat has been soar for the past few days so I went with the Caldo Tlalpeno and I was not disappointed. The flavor of chipotle gave it a nice little sweet heat.
