The food here is very bland. My tacos Al pastor were dry and not tasty. I've had better tacos for way cheaper. People definitely go here for the atmosphere, because the food is terribly bland and pricey in comparison to better places in the area. The building is a stand alone within a shopping center and is very striking and over decorated. Like something that you would see at Epcot. The interior décor is no different, and is very beautiful. It is a fun space to be in and experience. The servers were very attentive, polite, and fast. Sounds pretty great, right? I am the type of person that does not care what the atmosphere and service is like as long as there is good food to be had. Well, this place has everything going for them but good food. I was at a table of ten and no one was pleased with their food. Everyone said it was,"ok." That the chicken was dry, the rice was dry, the beans make their stomach hurt, and the cheese dip sucks. I was stupid enough to order the cheese dip at $5.95, and it was terrible. It tasted like popcorn butter that they use at the movie theater. As in, there was a slight creamy flavor to let you know it had dairy in it, but that is all you get. They actually put this nasty cheese dip on the taco salad, and refer to it as dressing. Tragic! If you are a customer that is willing to sacrifice taste for a "non-threatening to middle America" environment, then keep going here. I will definitely not fall victim to the terrible food here again and avoid the place. If you are looking for good "authentic" food, then I recommend the slew of places on 301. Sept 2021 update: Last time we were here we lived the food but a table near us ordered the dinner Fajitas and it smelled so good we knew we'd want to try it and today we did and they were as good as they smelled! Absolutely wonderful! We shared it and also got 2 desserts and shared those too - the Churros and Flan. July 2021: Great true Mexican restaurant. Beautiful decor, great food, reasonable prices, very kind servers. They even use sustainable agava straws! We did pick up once during the Pandemic and thought it was ok but eating there is so much better. They don't put as much sauce on the food for take-out; probably so it won't spill in the car, but eating there was a much better experience. My family has been going here for nearly 10 years. It's almost required by each of our kids to go get the "hat" on their birthday. The food & service is good. Now, the food is crazy fast, almost too fast for dinner. If you want something like an appetizer or quesso, then be sure to order right away when you get there (quesso blanco - very good). The service is really good and I don't think I can even think of a time that we ever had an empty bowl of chips. The salsa is made in house and always super good. Try to get one of the tables in the back corner. There are 4 booths and 2 of them are corner/wraparound style. It's really neat and decorated well. The place is busy, so it's really quite in the booths. One thing that is very important and that's happy hour. I believe it's till 6 and sangria is half price. They are good; not too strong and super easy to drink! Try to get there early if you want to sit right away, but they do have a cool little outside patio where you can hang out. If you do, then grab a drink at the bar and ask for some chips and salsa to take to the stand up height tables outside. They are more than happy and nice to enjoy during nice weather. You'll love it. This was my 3rd visit. 1st visit I was not feeling well and had a tea and the tortilla soup. It was delicious 2nd time I had Carnitas... they were superb This time I ordered Chile Relleno although I tried to order the carnitas again but was told that's a Friday special when they are opened for full dine in service. I DO NOT recommend the Chile Relleno... hardly any pepper with tons of batter and cheese. I was expecting queso dip stuffed and lightly breaded so that the pepper would have most of the flavor. I also ordered a side of queso but got sour cream instead. The restaurant is only providing takeout at this time due to COVID 19. So I hadn't realized this until I got back to my hotel. I really wish I would have checked my food. The staff is great regardless and I'll be back because I've had better. read more

This is THE BEST Mexican restaurant we've been to in the area. The interior is beautifully decorated and was such a pleasant backdrop for our meal. The food was absolutely delicious and the service is impeccable. We got the chicken and steak fajitas, tacos, flan, and a few different margaritas... all of which were perfect. The manager came over and made sure everything was great and was sooo nice. He let our daughter ring the bell and even let us sample one of their tequilas which turned out to be the smoothest tequila I have ever had. Overall experience was amazing. Kind of difficult to see if you don't know what to look for. GPS directions are pretty much dead on though. We walked in and were immediately greeted. All employees dawned masks due to the flu-like virus they call Covid. Fresh chips and salsa arrived and the young lady took our drink order. Drinks were margaritas, regular lime, two with salt, one without. Ordered a queso cheese dip and a cut of fresh diced jalapenos. When they arrived we ordered meals. Presentation was absolutely awesome and the tastes were very satisfying. I ordered fish tacos and my friends ordered enchiladas. We ordered a second margarita as we finished up. This is my first time and I'll definitely give it another try. I stopped by for lunch and ordered off their lunch menu. I ordered the Cheese Enchilada, beef taco, beans and rice. I was seated quickly, brought chips and salsa, and ordered tea. My lunch arrived quickly and I think the food was presented nicely. The salsa lacked flavor as the tomatoes really were the main ingredient. The chips were good, thick, and flavorful. The beef taco was crafted well and had real beef. The cheese enchilada was good but I didn't really like the sauce as it reminded me of can sauce. Beans and rice were good. Overall, the meal was good but I think it lacked spices. This place offered the best Mexican food I have ever tasted. I'm from MD/DE and wasn't enthusiastic about the group's selection of this place for our dinner. I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the outside decorations and lights. The place was packed and it was a Monday. We had to wait approximately 30 minutes before being seated. The waiter was super thorough!!! He kept our drinks refilled and seemed to know what we needed before we asked for it. We ordered the Mexican rolls as an appetizer.... They are HUGE and delicious. This is possibly my new favorite Mexican restaurant I have been to, and I have been to many!! Our first visit to a Mi Pueblo was in Venice FL, so when I saw one near our hotel in Sarasota, we made it our first stop on our mini vacation. The restaurant has an authentic Mexico feel, in line with restaurant concepts from the past such as those of us lucky enough to have know Don Pablos. We were promptly seated but opted to sit at the bar for their happy hour, (which was awesome for a Saturday night as many restaurants don't have Saturday happy hours). The bartenders were great and fast despite the volume of people who were crowded around the bar. And let me tell you....BEST MARGARITA I HAVE EVER HAD. HANDS DOWN. I wouldn't put it past me to drive the hour down here next time I'm craving a marg, that's how good these margaritas are!! The food is just as good as the margaritas, with chips and salsa to start. I highly recommend the queso (cheese dip), as it was also one of the best queso dips I've had in quite a while! I then had the Tacos al Carbon and my boyfriend had the pollo Zaragoza, both of which were amazing and were prepared quickly! My only critique of this restaurant is that there isn't one in Tampa!!!! The person who decided people need a six-piece Mariachi Band, with a trumpet, standing by their table during dinner should be fired. It was impossible to carry on a conversation. They keep rotating through the pace so you have to deal with them more than once. I found the food okay, nothing special. Service was not good. I had to get up from the table to find someone who could bring us sour cream, which was ordered with the meal. Then, I had to flag down a waiter to have them find ours because glasses were empty. We ate at the bar and hope restaurant management appreciates the gem of an employee they have in Mileydi. Waiter was an older guy wearing a blue button up shirt didn't get his name discriminated me due to the fact that I look young. We were a big party and everyone ordered alcoholic beverages before I decided to order mine and he didn't ID any of them but when I ordered he asked for my ID. I provided my ID, and before leaving with my ID to some room to examine it, one of my friends asked if he was sure he didn't want to ask her for her ID and he said and I quote "No I trust you". Yelp indicated this location was open until 9 pm. We arrived at 8, and after two steps inside the door the young hostess yells at us ... "We close at 8!" This is the second time in recent months that we have had this closing earlier than hours listed issue here, and the rude, abrupt treatment we received sealed it for us. We are done here. Good news is that Poblano's on SR-70 stays open until 9:30, they are very friendly and they were still very busy at 8:30 when we arrived. read more

So far nothing in Venice or Sarasota that we have tried has been great or come close to comparing to it ....and that hasn't changed today! This food was mostly . It started off bad with stale chips and the lunch specials were not good. Portion sizes were ok, and the beans and rice were good but that's all. I had a beef and and a chicken enchilada which were bland. My husband had chicken and beef fajitas which was horrible. The meat tastes like it was a day old and reheated. After all these years and I haven't reviewed this restaurant? It's been around a while. I can't remember when it was built. Anyhow, here's the run-down from both my wife's family, herself and my own experiences at Mi Pueblo. The food is usually good-- kind of chain-restaurant style, drinks are fine and prices are within the margin for this kind of dining. That's a surprise here in Sarasota. Granny usually has more $$ than taste buds left. Mi Pueblo has a Cinco de Mayo festival every year that's cool. What's up then? Planning on a relaxing night out? Forget it. The food arrives at light speed and the check just behind it. I've never been rushed in and out of a meal like this before. Not once. Not twice. Every visit over at least five years. Once the dude was mopping around up whilst we still have a half a pitcher of Sangria. Lucky we drank it fast. We were scared he'd take it away! Keep that in mind and you'll be fine. read more

First timer, was pleasantly surprised! Reminds me a lot of a favorite place back home, Monte Alban. The layout and decor is festive, and tasteful, with touches of cantina and tiki bar interspersed throughout. They have an outdoor patio with seating and also for those waiting to be seated while they enjoy a drink from the bar. The hostess podium has a fun little game where they pick a popsicle stick with a name, and that is how you are called upon when waiting. I was Ricky Ricardo for the night, and was happy to be called upon for dinner and chuckled while I went to the table. They serve chips and salsa per usual, and the salsa has a nice bite to it that I was eased with. I'm a firm believer that salsa should have some spice to it! I ordered a combination - enchilada Verde/ enchilada roja and chimichanga. It was served at a quick speed, accompanied by refried beans and rice. All well done, great separation of flavor and proper chew of the shells, and the rice had a solid hint of spice to it's seasoning. read more

While I may still be on the search for the "ultimate" Mexican restaurant, Mi Pueblo is my fallback. It's consistency each time I have gone has been very impressive. The fourth visit was just as good as the first. The service has always been satisfactory, but some of the waiters have been stellar while others have been good enough. The food is so cheap in comparison to many other Mexican restaurants in Sarasota, but the quality does not suffer for it. So far I've tried the chimichanga, tacos, and the enchiladas, and everything has been delicious! The portions sizes aren't huge, but I'm a firm believer in quality over quantity. They've got an awesome lunch menu that has several different specials to choose from. Honestly, I haven't been done wrong yet, and I don't see that happening anytime soon. One thing I have noticed, is that they are usually VERY busy for dinner so I'd say lunch time is the best time to pay this venue a visit. While it won't be blowing anyone away, it's an incredible bang for your buck kind of place. My wife and I love it, and we will continue to come here for as long as they keep up the great work! read more

My husband and I ordered 2 El Jefe Margaritas which are $14.50 each! When the waitress delivered them to our table they were in two DRAFT BEER GLASSES!! We were expecting the large beautiful margarita glasses that we saw on other patrons tables. When I complained the manager came over and said they ran out. I explained it is about the PRESENTATION of the margarita and that maybe someone should be washing their dirty glasses. The manager did get me a margarita glass but I should not have had to complain about the glass in the first place! A drink that cost $19.00 after tax and tip should look how it is supposed to be presented!! read more

Wonderful ambiance- like eating in a hacienda house with beautiful lights, wrought iron, pot after pot of plants, and huge wood-and-iron doors. Plus the color pink the restroom is painted is spot on! (Someone get that Pantone number for me so I can paint my room!) Food is reliable. Salsa and chips are yummy and fajitas were a win with my group. Sangria is yummy, but only house wines if you want grape. Just a festive place to spend a couple of hours. They have a private room for groups and plenty of parking and a courtyard to wait in that is smoking friendly. read more

Well where do I start. I'll go with the good. The margarita got better the more I drank. The chips we're only and tasteless. The salsa was like tomato sauce with cilantro in it. The food was bland beyond belief. I ate in the bar, which I normally don't do but... Chips in baskets piled up on a shelf. Salsa poured out of a plastic pitcher. The washing of glasses, to my disbelief, consisted of dumping out what was in it and dipping them into three different sink of sitting water.
