I came here for the first time Friday night and I have to say that I really liked the atmosphere. Families and groups of friends on a Saturday evening eating themselves silly. They have a really excellent greenish salsa that comes for free with the chips, as well as some really nice spicy mixed pickled veggies. I had the caldo de gallina, and it was flavorful and filled with big pieces of chicken. I tried my friends' carne adobada, and it was pretty good, though not as good as at Mi Guatemala, ditto on the garnachas Based on that, I would say that I prefer Mi Guatemala's food, and that the prices seem pretty similar, but the atmosphere at Mi Ranchito is more intimate and casual. read more

I have been going here for years. The food has been consistently excellent. It is simple fresh Guatemalan food. I usually go for breakfast but I enjoy their dinners too. I especially enjoy the homemade tortillas and fresh jalapeño sauce and the plantains. This place is always packed and for a good reason. read more

This place is a hole in the wall, so don't expect much in the way of ambience. There are TVs (Univision) and a digital jukebox, and the tables are basically diner melamine. But, the food (Guatemalan, apparently) is delicious, and the service was pleasant. I had the Camerones al Ajillo and my husband had the fajitas, and we both loved the plantains. They have beer and wine, but no hard liquor, so don't ask for a margarita. Overall, a good place for a reasonably-priced and yummy meal. read more

A great hole in the wall! They automatically get huge bonus points for bringing chips, 2 salsas and guacamole to the table for free. We had chicken and steak fajitas and they were delicious. Fresh, delicious, and authentic--yum! Got takeout here, and was quite the happy camper; meal after meal after meal (count 'em: 3 meals out of one $12 entree! what a steal). Carne asada fajitas were delicious. I was especially in love with the refried black beans. Will be returning! read more

Wow, what is this magical place? I don't really look for authenticity as a deciding factor when getting Mexican food. Spiced meat wrapped in something (usually with sour cream), chips and salsa and cheap beer are enough to make for a good south of the border themed meal. But this place takes that exact formula to a different level. First off, meals start with two types of salsa and fresh chips accompanied by pickled peppers and vegetables. Everything on the menu from the fajitas to the tacos are extremely economical. Choose the correct meal and you'll be rewarded with side dishes of rice, beans, salad and fresh tortillas. It's hard to go wrong here and everything's good. Oh and the beer's really cheap too :) read more

Mi Ranchito never fails to strike the right chords for me. I come here often and the food always hits the spot. The P-Q ratio is low(prices are low and quantity is high), which works for me at times when I am on a shoe string budget. The seafood soup, the black beans and the mixed fajitas are my favorites here and would be more than happy to recommend them to any one. If ambiance is not of your top priority, then this is a nice non-pretentious joint with great authentic guatemalan food. Cheers! read more

It doesn't get any better or more authentic than this place. Incredible food, incredibly cheap, friendly service. It is small so you could find a wait on the weekends and, for larger parties (of say six or more) you may need to take what you can get as far as seating goes but they do their absolute best to accommodate, without a doubt! The one and only con about Mi Ranchito is that, while they do accept credit cards, you cannot tip on the credit card- cash tip only. Other than that, this is totally my go-to spot for a quick and super tasty meal. read more

Excellent for brunch lunch and dinner. I've had the tacos, huevos con tomates y cebolla, carne asada. All was excellent. Very flavorful.

Great food, solid prices. A rannchito platter and app order of tacos kept me and my gal full all day, which is an impressive feat.

Mi Ranchito is a nice little Mexican style restaurant on the West Side of Providence in the Armory district. I have been here a few times, once to sit in and a couple of times for take out. The ambience of the place leaves a lot to be desired. The restaurant has a few tables and booths and a small bar with a limited selection of liquor. It is dark and a little rundown looking. They do have take out but no take out menus and nothing online so you need to go into the restaurant to order, unless you know want you want without looking at a menu. The prices are decent. They are at a good level for the amount they serve. The food itself is decent, not great, but decent. Last time I was there I got the shrimp fajitas for take out which also came with a small salad and a side of rice and black beans, along with the standard fajita fixings. The shrimp fajita itself was good. They served a decent amount of shrimp with a good flavor. What was lacking in flavor was the rice and beans. The rice was a basic white rice with bits of previously frozen peas and carrots and nothing else. The beans were a paste of black beans with little to no seasoning to them. While not offensive the rice and beans left a lot to be desired. The salad was a basic small salad with iceberg lettuce and chunks of tomato. It was fresh but nothing special. To sum it up, will I go back for take out? Yes, I just won't eat the rice and beans without adding my own seasoning. Will I ever eat in restaurant? I don't see that happening any time soon. read more

Place was ok. It was good at first then the second time I ate it was a lil different. my friend went there and got the same thing as me but got diff types of meat and plantains and I didn't. That didn't sit well with me. Overall the taste is all on the person because she loves it there. read more

Huge portions of authentic Guatemalan/Central American food. I've never been able to finish a full plate, but it doesn't stop me from trying! Service is fast and friendly and the prices are great. The crowd is predominantly Spanish-speaking, but the owner and waitstaff are bilingual so don't give a second thought to ordering in English. I wish some of the other reviewers weren't so put off by the location...I've lived in this neighborhood for a decade and have always found it to be safe and friendly. Been going to this "Guatemalan restaurant" since they opened up. I absolutely love this place. The food is delicious and the price is right. I love sitting there picking a song to hear having a corona and my food. The waitstaff is polite and the atmosphere is great. Small place but its cute and comfortable. My favorite is the flavorful steak plate and the mixed fajitas (chicken and steak) Comes out on that hot sizzling plate. All comes with rice, beans, and salad. read more

The quality of their food NEVER changes. It is top notch authentic central american food. I typically order the carne asada ( grilled steak) and it is so rich in flavor and the portions are very reasonable for the price. I also enjoy their Fried fish. It is a must dine in place for tourists in the RI area, specifically in providence. Also a great spot for dates, business meetings and after church on sunday family meals. read more

I was in the mood for authentic Mexican and after reading the reviews on this place, decided to give it a shot. You know this place is authentic when english is rarely spoken. I ordered the Mi Ranchito platter and my boyfriend had the chicken and steak fajitas. They first served free chips and dip during the wait- which was amazing but we didn't get any guac. which other reviewers had said they had gotten. The Mi Ranchito platter was a TON of food for $13. It had salad, rice, beans, fried plantains, a delicious beef dish and chicken (which was a bit too dry). The chicken and steak fajitas for $12 were pretty standard- a bit too salty, the hot tortillas were great though. Again, the portion size was enormous. I would most likely come back here. read more

Awesome Guatemalan food! We ordered the Mi Ranchito platter for two. Chicken, steak, and pork - the steak was our favorite, great flavor in the spices on it. The chicken and pork were also very good. The rice and beans each had their own unique flavors, and really enjoyable mixed together or eaten separately. I really like the lime dressing for the salad, very fresh salad. Nice sweet plaintains. The chips at the beginning were very good, different from other places. Great service and nice decor. Other reviews said it has no atmosphere, but if you were in Central America, this place might be one of the nicest places, decor-wise, lots of handi-crafts on the walls. Latin music playing from the video jukebox, very nice wait staff, checked on us often. We both had more than enough to eat and the amount of food we brought home from the platter is enough for another meal for both of us. We especially liked that we found ourselves in the minority, which we think is always a good sign for two white guys. Great find, love this place! read more

Food was very yummy and even more affordable. I shared the shrimp fajitas and the Mi Ranchito platter with my partner. The portions are gigantic and could have easily fed 3-4 people. The tortillas for the fajitas are housemade and super delicious. Black beans were fantastic. The chips and salsa are on the house, but not my fave. The salsa is a bit thin for my taste. Beers were 3 bucks a piece! You can't get a better deal than that. Service was fantastic. I speak minimal Spanish and did not have any problem at all. I also loved the Spanish soap operas playing on the tv! Overall, this place does a fantastic job for this kind of establishment. I would definitely recommend it! read more

OK - 5 stars. This place is the authentic deal. There were more latinos here than gringos. A melodramatic telenovela was playing on the TV and there was more spanish than ingles. Thought i was somewhere in Central America for a bit. Spanish is not necessary but it helps. The place is small but there is plenty of room to sit and enjoy a nice meal. I ordered the beef fajitas and my wife ordered the carne asado. Both meals were excellent. Nice presentation, more food than we could eat and very nicely done. The fajitas came with a side of refried black bean, salad, rice, and guacamole. The fajitas mix was excelente. The beef, onions, peppers - perfect. The tortllas were the best ever. None of this cheap, cold, out-of the-bag stuff. These were a little thicker than most, toasted a bit, and very warm. We split a Horchata (rice drink with some cinnamon and spice) it was great. I had a pepsi also. Total for everything $28. They serve a nice plate of wheat nachos with some mild salsas and a dish of pickled onions and jalapenos. We'll be back soon to try some other dishes. Serivce was very good. Place is located in a very quiet spot a few minutes outside the downtown area. If you are looking for some Tex-Mex, or an assembly line burrito this is not the place. If you want a great meal in the company of some latino families give it a try. read more

I finally went into Mi Ranchito after driving by if for several years. I walked in and still thought the windows being so dark was the problem - it just not inviting. Who really cares tho .. The food was amazing - I had the taco suaves (Pork) and found myself placing a to go order the next day. I recommend getting past the black out windows and giving them a try! read more
