    Aguachile, Steak Burrito
    Tina L.

The food items we got were all tasty but maybe a tad overpriced. I see why the steak burrito has such hype - the steak was very juicy, tender, and plentiful, and there was a nice balance of flavors with a hint of smokiness coming through that I really enjoyed. The hot sauce that comes with it was great as well. However, it is $28 for no sides & it was a touch too salty for me. The aguachile was very fresh & had a nice umami flavor going. The shrimps were nice and big. Don't skip the tres leches!! I find tres leches too sweet sometimes but this one had a nice balance of flavors with the dark chocolate layer adding a touch of bitterness that complimented the rest of the cake well. The horchata drink was good too & came in a cute lil mug.

We found this spot while looking on the Michelin Guide and luckily snagged a dinner reservation during our visit to Chicago. The spot is vibrant and was very busy when we were there on a Sunday night. We ordered the Guacamole, Steak Burrito, and Pollo al Mojo de Ajo Cremoso to share. Being Californians we have had some great burritos and had high expectations for this one. It was pretty darn good in our opinions. Guacamole was really fresh and came with a lot. The chicken was super tender and the sauce it came in was delicious. We were absolutely stuffed, so unfortunately didn't have room to try their tres leche.

One of the best meals I've ever had. The ambience is fantastic, great service, and beautiful decor. The food was absolutely amazing. I can't wait to return. We met the chef and we didn't want to leave.

Admittedly I came because I was curious by the new Bib Gourmand status, and sometimes I feel like the bib gourmand is too generous, but it's clear that this one was well deserved. Balanced and interesting and exciting flavors, amazing textures, impressive presentation for the price. And this was perhaps the best steak burrito I've ever had. Service is attentive and friendly, the inside is cutely decorated. The area is small so not great for large parties but surprisingly doesn't get too loud. It's not the most elevated dining experience but at around $50-100pp it's a great value. Will definitely be coming back.

Having seen Chef Diana on Padma Lakshmi's America's Culinary Cup, I knew I was in for a treat! I rode two buses to from down town Chicago to get there, and it was raining. But, I would not be deterred! I was helped by Yadi immediately, she was gracious and welcoming and helpful to me. I was seated at the bar. Carol was at the bar and super friendly and answered my questions. I ordered the Enchiladas Potosinas. Chef Diana's food is elevated Mexican food. The love and care taken to make this food was evident, the minute you took the first bite. The descriptions next to the dishes really give you a glimpse as to the story behind the food. Food that tells a story is personal. These enchiladas are from Chef Diana's home town. They are made with a hand pickled crab salad and you are supposed to use the enchiladas to dip the salad up. I had also ordered the salsa and chips, a side of sour cream...it was the perfect combo. The salsa is homestyle and made with charred tomato, tomatillo, serrano, garlic, fresh lime, and chili ash. I also ordered the horchata. It came in the cutest little pottery with beautiful painting on it. The cinnnamon stick was the finishing touch. The flavor was very delicious, rich and complexed. It is a smaller mug, but plentiful considering you are eating many items. Lastly I ordered the Tres Leches cake. It sits in pool of milks with beautiful dried flowers that float on it. The cake is perfect in texture and true to tradition. The outside was iced with ganache. The chocolate mousse was made with dark chocolate, not very sweet, but a beautiful compliment to the cake. My only suggestion as a person who works in the pastry field, is to add a meringue stick to bring a crunch factor. This meal was filling and I didn't even order a entree! Next time I would get the Mole! What a delightful experience. If you ever eat a meal that brings tears to your eyes, you are winning! Thank you Chef Diana!

Based on how popular this spot looked, I was excited to try out this neighborhood spot. Sure, the food was cooked well, but at the same time the whole experience was underwhelming and overpriced. Feels like the restaurant gave more about presentation of the dishes than actual favor. For context, the steak burrito is $27 which I recognize factors like inflation, but I had burritos from street vendors that packed more of a punch. Shoutout to the octopus though, the only dish that blew my mind. Additionally, music was incredibly loud which made having any conversation difficult.

I had had my eye on this place for awhile and finally got a dinner reservation this past weekend. The place is vibrant casual and small with amazing Mexican food and a wide mezcal and other Mexican liquor offerings. For example dessert menu only had a couple desserts but a ton of after dinner drinks/digestifs. We had the guacamole, nopales tacos, cauliflower, and mole. Overall each dish didn't blow me away but was still some of the best Mexican food I've had in awhile. The staff though was freaking amazing from host to wait staff. Like 10/10 I felt treasured. I would definitely come back depending on if it fit the vibe- but idk if it made my chicago favorites.

Small place that seats less than 30, friendly staff. Darren got the steak burrito which the menu said was on the menu before they had a menu. For 28 bucks you get chela-marinated, grilled skirt steak, queso chihuahua, local black beans, romaine, avocado, grilled onion, banana peppers, sour cream (allegedly). It was about 90% steak and small amounts of cheese, romaine and a bit of avocado. I ate half last night. Maybe the other half has all the other ingredients. I like a lot of meat, but it really needed everything else. Donna got the squash blossom atoladas which was blue heirloom hand pressed tortillas stuffed with calabacitas, roasted poblano smothered in a masa thickened squash blossom salsa pistachio macha. She said it was light, good heat from the poblanas and very nice flavors (I agreed).

They had our attention from the moment we walked in with the brightly colored walls and interesting Mexican artsy vibe. Our host and servers were extremely helpful in navigating the menu and were both knowledgeable about the preparation of the entrees. The cocktails were fun and inventive and they offered a variety of non-alcoholic beverages as well which was a nice touch. Every entree we had was tasty and unique, bursting with flavor as we tried to decipher what the ingredients were! We were lucky to find street parking just a few yards away and will definitely go back soon! Definitely check out Mi Tocaya and make reservations, this is a popular spot for locals.

Small space but bustling and vibrant. Some of the best guacamole I've had! The fish tacos were a surprise banger. The cauliflower fundido wasn't quite what I expected, but it was still good. I wish it were cheesier. The drinks are fun and delicious. Went with the horchata dessert, while it was decent, I think the red leches may have been better. I do recommend hitting the up!

Food was bland!! Dessert menu was better!! Not sure why this place gets so many star reviews!! Bland, bland, bland!! Below is my book face post: Deserts were stunning!! The food, meh! If I go back, then only for dessert! Mexican food was underwhelming!! Drinks were ok. Not sure why it gets so many 4 star reviews! People who grew up with bland food really like this restauran though!! Btw, no Mexican rice on the menu!! The last thing the server said was just so weird!! We paid with cash so server said we don't use cash so we don't have cash for change. Told her no change is needed! What restaurant doesn't use cash? This place is all smoke and mirrors!! La C@3*#€£na No Sabe Cocinar !!

    Guacamole Chips Y Salsa

We had an excellent dinner from beginning to end. The service staff was excellent and very friendly from the front of the house when we first entered to the end of our meal. Our server was fantastic, highlighting various entrées, cocktails, and telling us a little bit about the restaurant. We start out with the guacamole and chips and the incredible salsa. Next came the shrimp ceviche followed by a meat burrito and also pork chop mole outstanding in every sensitive word. I can see why the chef is one of the best chefs in the nation. We will definitely be back again. Our dinner ended with a one of a kind Tres Dulce cake. Thanks again great job.

I must admit that I had low expectations because quite frankly, I have not enjoyed Mexican food outside of Mexico or California. However, we were hungry, and it was near where we were staying, so I decided we should check it out, and I am so glad we did! The food was great. Both adults and the VERY picky children in our group all enjoyed our meals. I ordered the green chicken enchiladas and the other adult ordered a chile relleno combo, which I also got to try. Everything was delicious and devoured by all! We were so full but the owner talked us into the chocoflan, and we did not regret trying it. It was soooo good! Speaking of the owner, the service was great. We really enjoyed how he and the rest of the staff were very courteous. It is a small establishment, and it gets a good amount of people, so I assume that there are waits during peak hours. I highly recommend Sabroso! And we plan to return the next time we are in the area.

Appetizers were quac and chips, and shrimp ceviche. The guac was really good, but the ceviche was the star. Served on a bed of cucumbers, it was visually beautiful, and the flavor was fresh and complex. There was also a LOT of it. We ended up taking some home. Entrees were steak and shrimp for me, and Tampiquena for my friend. In both dishes, the steak was done to perfection. The sauce that came with my shrimp was spicy and deep--lots of flavor layers there. Both of us took home portions of our meals because there was a lot of food on the plates. Finally, the service--the servers are attentive without hovering. If we needed something, they were there, but never intrusive. It is hard to believe this is a little neighborhood spot, given the service and the quality of the food. It was not too busy tonight--we ate early--but I recommend reservations. It is very popular with the neighborhood. Bottom line, we each had 2 margaritas, appetizers, and entrees, and our bills with tip were around $105.00 each--totally worth it!
