We ordered the stir-fried eggplant + green beans and a beef dry pot and as aforementioned, both contained the dry peppers but zero spiciness. I know it's called a "dry" pot, but this is the first place I've had it where it was actually 100% dry with no sauce/oil on the bottom at all. Usually, I like to dip or at least mix the contents with the sauce/oil but since there wasn't any, the dish was just too dry and felt like it was lacking. The same to be said with the eggplant dish. Maybe just stick to the hotpot/broth dishes, but even then, I'm not confident. The exact dish I got last time doesn't appear to be served anymore; but a variation of it is, which is their fish in stone pot? I remember it being mouth-numbing spicy and delivering in the classic Mala/Sichuan tastes. Overall, I probably wouldn't come back again despite it conveniently located in Ala Moana.

Honestly, not much caught my eye, so it ended up being a one-and-done experience. Fast-forward to this week, when I heard they had xiao long bao (soup dumplings). Wow--what a completely different experience! You can actually see the staff freshly making the xiao long bao as you walk in, on the left side. And now, everything is done by QR code scanning. Maybe Chengdu Taste was just way ahead of its time! The food was sensational, the service was fast, and the staff was extremely friendly. The xiao long bao alone made the trip worthwhile.
